Why Are There 96,000,000 Red Gem Stones on This Beach!

  • I searched this river beach full of gemstones looking for the perfect gem quality garnet. What I found was mind blowing. Millions upon millions of red garnets. Most were very small, but many were big enough to collect. After hours of gem hunting we came home with a bucket full of garnets most small but some nice ones included in the mix. The goal of this prospecting was hopefully to find a big enough gemmy garnet to facet. Check out the video to see what we found. What a rock hound / gem hunter parricide this was.

My dad used to take me gold dredging when I was a kid. Most of my favorite life memories are from these trips. I lost my dad 8/9/2020 and this video brought back a flood of warm memories. I've always wanted to take my kids to do this, I know they would adore it. Thank you for these videos. I hope your children have just as many warm memories of your trips as I do of mine.

When I was a kid, I worked at a garnet mine in North Creek, NY. We would find large garnets everywhere. The best ones, which we called fire garnets were pretty rare though. I know by the end of summer, I had less than five of those, while I had a small bag filled with the darker garnets.
