Construct multiple on/off juctions to the highway, big intersections are to connect multiple highways. Construct over passes to the highway to connect the districts that are seperated from a highway. Construct highway roundabout 2/3 lanes, increase te radius of it if the traffic is bigger that expected Most of the problems solved and traffic around 80%~

@@kingmonkey5011Payment that a great idea @biffa why not have more cities why have more than 60% of traffic efficiency and bring it to 90% that would be more challenging.

Not only do roundabouts improve traffic flow, but they also reduce traffic accident rates by almost 40% compared to normal intersections (with 90% reduction in fatalities) [Source: WSDOT].
10:05 What I do with these situations is I make the bottom leg of "Y" a two lane highway, and then make TWO lanes from highway to be "turn right" only. The usual "one lane for exit" doesn't make sense when pretty much all of the traffic is taking it and it just turns into a bottleneck. May or may not work in the regular busy highway. Although it could be fixed by making the approach part of the highway a 4-lane one.
18:40 - You allowed them to pick a lane when coming on, but disallowed them to pick a lane WHILE they're on. How to get off a roundabout if you mustn't change lanes? It seemed to work after all, but still …
Not only has your Fix Your City series taught me enough to build a functional city with despawning turned off (something my younger self would balk at the very idea of), I've begun drinking hot tea! Thank you 😁
Impressive as always Biffa. Long post below as general advice. I promise it is clean. One thing to always keep in mind when planning roads is fewer intercections is always better. Try to eliminate all lights and stop signs when possible. Even a small roundabout can easily help with this. More lanes isn't always better as the ai is rather stupid. Traffic manager among other tools can help but never expect the ai do do what would make sense. Plan for that. Subways monorails and ferries ideally will be the main intercity transport. Walking sims means less noise and more money for you. I would abstain from taxi or bus traffic until your roads can handle them.

can't wait for a new series biffa, hope you will.. left a comment on an earlier vid with some suggestions. (no pause mode or a canal like city similar to venice for example)
At the very beginning 0:15 it show walkways not connected to the roads. I've seen this in other videos of yours how do you get people to walk on them? They won't walk on mine unless they're connected to the road?
I think a segmented grid city can work really well. In doing so you make a city that’s easily expandable. For my two cents I think each segment is a touch too big ( try to keep a residential area to 5000 people) and if you can, make room for 1 way in but a different way out). I’d show you what I mean but I play on console. Nice city, great fix Sir Biff
My favorite traffic fix that I can’t remember Biffa doing is to ban all left turns onto and off of my 6-lane roads, especially the ones bordering the industrial areas. This has the advantages of a one way system while still allowing traffic out of the system easily. NOTE: I always watch Biffa at work so I may have missed him doing this.
With traffic despawning turned off, the way I like to play, sometimes by metros/trains get jammed on a single line with no intersection and i don't know why... I toggle it on and off and it will despawn those stuck trains/metros.
Honestly i'd say this about road interconnects as a good rule of thumb. 1. Side roads should be 1 lane bi directionals, (i.e. standard road), and make sure you don't put so much onto that road that it needs to be more than 1 lane each way. Obviously if runnig a 1 waty system adjust as needed. 2. All sde roads should connect to a 3 lane main road. 3. All 3 lane main roads should connect to roundabouts that are eitheir linked by another 3 lane road or by highway roads. 4. Anytime 2 highways or 2 roundabout to roundabout roads meet use an interchange. Most of the problems in this case where caused by a combination of improper roads for a particular use case or inappropriate junctions where roads met.
Biffa, I'd like to propose a challenge for the Titan of Tea, the Thane of Throughput: Can you build a city that never drops below 80% from its genesis to the highest population tier?
I never imagine, but never, if you create bike pedestrian paths and roads across your whole city, north south etc. You can reduce traffic by tons and you can see hordesor bikers xd. Its crazy even tourist ride bikes from nothing

It seems it helps a lot when you stop the cars from changing more than one line at a time. For some reason they often try to skip the middle line and it slows the traffic a lot since they have to slow down for that. If they only change one lane they don't have to slow down.
I've got to try that roundabout that has the ramps that go up and over. 😆 And yes, I use anarchy to extend the monorail track right over the roundabout into the street opposite. Thank you for asking, Biffa. 😆 Keep up the good work....
The problem with using so many mods is that it stuffs everything up aesthetically. That roundabout in the middle on the main road infringed upon the small dead end road and yet people were walking THROUGH the barriers onto the roundabout to go around the corner. The monorail also had supports blocking lanes and using MOVE IT mod makes roads have weird shapes and does NOT remove other objects it moves over. THAT is how the trees and buildings etc. stay on the road. I do enjoy the series though and when I finish going through them all will use the things I have learnt on my cities.
When I had despawning off I kept having a problem of trains spawning against the flow of the rest of the trains on the line, meaning they were all backing up with nothing obvious I could do to fix the problem. Possibly a glitch.
2:42 I'm actually quite confused why (almost?) nobody seems to take the actual shortcut that bypasses the roundabout coming from the industry area 'down' on the screen to get to the highway. The whole time watching that roundabout, almost nobody actually takes it. Why?
Putting the "slip roads" around the roundabout and over the side street is backwards. Instead, put the main road right over the top of the roundabout, and make the "slip roads" connect to the roundabout. That way, two lanes of straight-through traffic just passes through unimpeded, and only those needing to exit the main road do so.
@@BrendanP Some so called 'Biffa-fans' have bullied him for months. That's where Sam Bur's anger comes from. It's a pity that Sam Bur thinks that Biffa himself has something to do with that. :-(
Haha, nice reference to Avengers at 11:02 I guess if you were like Thanos, you would use despawning.. about 50% percent gone :) - Be one of the good guys, keep it off :D
With your use of roundabouts, do you ever make the non-roundabout intersections only able to turn right/left based on direction of travel so no one turns across traffic?
I find it amusing that people stick to those "middle-of-the-city highways" and then are wondering why their traffic is a mess. People, make a proper ring, like civilised countries do. It does a wonder :D
Would be a heck of a challenge but nice to see is a 100% vanilla game traffic fix, for those who eventually want to gain achievements or are playing in consoles. I started a mod-free city some weeks ago: reaching 50k+ people, Metro as the only public transportation method (w/ Free Public Transport policy), lots and lots of paths for people to walk by and traffic through 70-80%, so far. At this moment, dealing with every industrial highway access (which is busy as hell) but I'm pretty happy with it :)
Biffa you should do a "no bulldoze" challenge! Either start a city from scratch or a "fix a city" in where you can't destroy any roads, houses etc. Once something is placed it has to stay. I think it would be a more realistic city, as it's what is done in real life. Most the time they just add roads, buildings etc to the existing infrastructure instead of removing anything. Which leads to the hot mess of a road system we have in most places of the world.
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Well that could be stopped by not zoning the houses in the first place, if a build map. But still in a fix it map it would be interesting to see if possible to save a city without destroying it. I am thinking of places like New York, Seatle, etc that have tons of "historic" buildings that can't be destroyed but roads and stuff still need updated.
I just had started to write a post being all :( you never put back the walking paths... XD then the last little bit at thend came up with the "I put the paths back in they're just underground" XD thank you!
Biffa... Why not take the 3-lane highways... drop off an exit ramp to the roundabout, and run 2 lanes of highway UNDER it to get to the other side? Then ramps to bring it back to 3 lane and carry on. Also, that crossing street could have ramps to the roundabout and fly over top of it... Then only traffic transferring from the highway to the street use the roundabout and everything flowing through bypasses it. :) That works great for me! :)
I would like to see the difference between cars not going on the roundabout and the opposite, I really like little time lapses between fixes by the way !
Don't underestimate the power of despawning! When I first turned it off in my current city I went down from almost perfect 80% traffic flow to a grid locked inner city with around 20% traffic flow (mostly because of a too small roundabout). I managed to solve this issue, but nowadays when I turn off despawning, the traffic at the cargo harbor backs up so far, that no traffic sponge could handle it. While with active despawning, I can literally see trucks disppearing by the second at the end of the ok-sized cue. Cargo traffic in Cities Skylines can just be ridiculous.
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Eventually I should send my city to you to fix as well then. But for now I I'm going to continue deleloping it myself and see where it leads to. If I fail in the end, I still might provide you a decent challenge.
Good job Biffa, really enjoyed the timelapse & before and after shots. I was thinking maybe you could do a multiplayer map build with some of your followers, like everyone gets a square, you go 1st, then review the map after each person has had their turn & fix any issues then pass it on to the next person, it would be cool, I'd like to be a part of it. 👍😎

Biffa sent him a message to clear the air, but Sam Bur was still angry and didn't want to talk. Sam posted screenshots of their conversation on his Instagram Stories. You should do more "systematic" fixes on a city like this. That doesn't mean rip everything up, but point out how to build a proper road network. The main problem here wasn't the intersections. It was the fact the the city was sectioned off into small pieces with way too few roads connecting them. Most of the districts had a single road connecting them to the rest of the "world". It would have been very interesting to see what just adding a few more interconnects would have done. 15k pop is tiny and just putting in roundabouts and do some lane management won't help even befor the city will have doubled in size.
I've never played a single minute of this game but there's just something in his presentation that keeps me hooked on this series.

Another great fix from mr. trafic himself... Actually gota few new tricks from this one! Great job! :D
Great traffic management! going to try fix my city's traffic and possibly send it in if it still gives me hassles
Putting the "slip roads" around the roundabout and over the side street is backwards. Instead, put the main road right over the top of the roundabout, and make the "slip roads" connect to the roundabout. That way, two lanes of straight-through traffic just passes through unimpeded, and only those needing to exit the main road do so.
omg that first roundabout is triggering me one node is 2 lanes aaaaaargh
I thought I was the only one. 😭
Should have been @16:15 I love it when a plan comes together ;) Famous words by Colonel H. Smith
One thing I can say about your videos, you make it look so easy, to build and play...
Sambur just came for you so hard in his newest vid lmao
I saw it, there's a lot of assumptions made. But I've spoken to Sam and all is good 👍
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines He posted your conversation on his Instagram story. 🤨
The comments on social media, from the rogue fans and Sam himself, are embarrassing.
@@BrendanP Some so called 'Biffa-fans' have bullied him for months. That's where Sam Bur's anger comes from. It's a pity that Sam Bur thinks that Biffa himself has something to do with that. :-(
He knows now that I had no idea
Haha, nice reference to Avengers at 11:02
I guess if you were like Thanos, you would use despawning.. about 50% percent gone :) - Be one of the good guys, keep it off :D
With your use of roundabouts, do you ever make the non-roundabout intersections only able to turn right/left based on direction of travel so no one turns across traffic?
i really enjoy your videos! i've learned a lot! greez from Germany!
I miss the Karrisdale vids! But love all your videos either way.
I find it amusing that people stick to those "middle-of-the-city highways" and then are wondering why their traffic is a mess. People, make a proper ring, like civilised countries do. It does a wonder :D
😆😆😆
Would be a heck of a challenge but nice to see is a 100% vanilla game traffic fix, for those who eventually want to gain achievements or are playing in consoles.
I started a mod-free city some weeks ago: reaching 50k+ people, Metro as the only public transportation method (w/ Free Public Transport policy), lots and lots of paths for people to walk by and traffic through 70-80%, so far. At this moment, dealing with every industrial highway access (which is busy as hell) but I'm pretty happy with it :)
I've never seen 100% ;-)
Love the episode, Keep up the good work 😀👍 I drink Tetley Tea when I watch your episodes 😀
How do you do that lane management thing where you quickly set all lanes not to switch? 10:36
press shift+s
Biffa you should do a "no bulldoze" challenge! Either start a city from scratch or a "fix a city" in where you can't destroy any roads, houses etc. Once something is placed it has to stay. I think it would be a more realistic city, as it's what is done in real life. Most the time they just add roads, buildings etc to the existing infrastructure instead of removing anything. Which leads to the hot mess of a road system we have in most places of the world.
Not really going to work when people put houses right up against roads everywhere, but interesting idea ;-)
What are the names of the "I tell the cars which direction they can go"-mod and the "roundabout"-mod?
Traffic manager and roundabout builder 👍
That works great for me! :)
Biffa, please, whats the name of the music starting at 5:40?
Electric from the Cities Skylines soundtrack.
Despawning is very powerful, but my traffic fixing is more powerfuler :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Eventually I should send my city to you to fix as well then. But for now I I'm going to continue deleloping it myself and see where it leads to. If I fail in the end, I still might provide you a decent challenge.
Good job Biffa, really enjoyed the timelapse & before and after shots.
I was thinking maybe you could do a multiplayer map build with some of your followers, like everyone gets a square, you go 1st, then review the map after each person has had their turn & fix any issues then pass it on to the next person, it would be cool, I'd like to be a part of it. 👍😎
Interesting :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines it'll be fun, plus it would give you a new aspect to the game for your channel.
One the my favorite maps (that I've created) is called Chamberlain. Has big river through the middle, valley with natural elevation changes along the river edge, and then flat top plains along the outer edges. Is based on a real area.

Biffa: *exists*
Sam Bur: **Im about to end this mans whole career**
Just a meme, for real did it turn out fine with Sam or not, did Biffa contacted him or what?
Biffa sent him a message to clear the air, but Sam Bur was still angry and didn't want to talk. Sam posted screenshots of their conversation on his Instagram Stories.
I'm so disappointed by all of this. I really believe some Biffa-fans have bullied Sam Bur for months on his videos. I'm a fan of both channels and I never thought CS-fans could be souch assholes.
@@HomeTownAdventurers what did I miss?
The solution? Roundabouts roundabouts roundabouts roundabouts ROUNDABOUTS!!!
I really enjoy these time lapses.
Well done, Plenty of time to watch this one :DD
Please tell me what the music is called at 5:28 pleaseeee
That ending switching sequence was great!
Thank you Extra musicam nulla saluus :-)
You should do more "systematic" fixes on a city like this. That doesn't mean rip everything up, but point out how to build a proper road network. The main problem here wasn't the intersections. It was the fact the the city was sectioned off into small pieces with way too few roads connecting them. Most of the districts had a single road connecting them to the rest of the "world". It would have been very interesting to see what just adding a few more interconnects would have done. 15k pop is tiny and just putting in roundabouts and do some lane management won't help even befor the city will have doubled in size.
what is the music around min 22:20?
Really enjoy your vids Biffa! Can we get a vid on you creating intersections instead of taking them from the steam workshop?
Thanks. Probably not, I use pre-made ones ;-)
