Fantastic. Your timelapse at the start was a fitting reply to allegations by other you tubers...who I previously liked. I have tried your traffic fixes and I can say first hand they work.
I know everyone thinks Sam was targeting Biffa specifically, and when I started watching his video originally I thought he might be... but then he mentioned practices that Biffa just doesn’t do, like keeping the view zoomed in. Biffa has never had a problem with showing us zoomed out views through a lot of his videos. So I don’t think it was aimed at any one person. The mistake he made was saying that everyone did it. It wasn’t an accurate statement and couldn’t have been accurate as everyone (;p) has different methods. I do think he might have been feeling a bit envious or insecure as people make comments about how Biffa does things better or differently on his videos frequently. Personally, I’ve always found it rude when people do that to content creators. It’s like constantly telling them they are not good enough. So I can understand how Sam could have been driven to exasperation enough to make that video. It wasn’t the right way to handle it, but it was normal flawed human (as we all are) way to. Biffa has long had a strong and very protective community, and he deserves it! But I will say, that I have seen Biffa have to tell his fans to be nice to another/other creators multiple times. CS is not the only game I have seen his fans comment to other creators about how Biffa does things differently or better. I’ve also seen them attack other creators at the slightest perceived criticism of Biffa. While I live that Biffa has a strong community and believe he has worked for it and deserves it (and am myself a long-time fan), this same community can at times be quite toxic to others. I’ve never really understood this as Biffa himself has never encouraged this type of behavior that I’ve seen and has frequently discouraged it. It’s like people don’t think Biffa can hold his own or something, which isn’t giving Biffa enough credit imo. This doesn’t mean I thought Sam handled things well. I do believe he was driven to feeling like he needed to though.
Thanks for sharing how you let the town crumble further before you fix it. This is a wonderful series. Not only is it great entertainment, but I've also learned a lot.
Bu tthen it's only making clockwise loops and anticlockwise wich is not interesting. Interesting would be to create interchange stations + intersecting lines in conjunction with ccw and acw
I'm watching his Mass Transit DLC playlist. I believe he explores it more there. The downpoint may be him not using the mods he does use nowadays. But I've only watched 6 out of 91 videos.
What's nice about your City Fix videos is that, as the series goes on, we see people trying to apply your techniques to their cities. Do they get it right? Not always, but it really shows that, as a community, we're absorbing these lessons and learning a lot from you. I also like that you acknowledge and respect the effort these folks put into their cities. You don't judge whether a city is "good" or "bad" -- you're always looking to how it could be made better, which is encouraging to folks like me who play casually and don't have too many hours in the game. Another commentator mentioned tackling public transportation first before fixing the roads as a challenge. It does sound intriguing. Maybe also a challenge to encourage more pedestrians/bike riders? One thing I love about this game is when you see Cims just going to and fro. Wonderful video as always! :)
A challenge, instead of fixing the road traffic first, fix the public transport first, and see just how much traffic is removed by good use of buses, metros....
I’ve had a chance to spend a few hours with my city since Biffa posted and the train issue was caused the assets that I had loaded. The trains were too long for the station and blocking the crossovers at the end of the platform. Which is probably why Biffa ignored them. Anyway, no more bad assets, no more train problem.
Biffa - I subbed to your channel a few weeks ago...the things you do with this game are just awesome! While I like all your videos, my favorites are the ones where you start a city from scratch. It’s so cool watching your city grow and the layouts you create, just amazing. Thanks for all you do!
I too you use the "stop lane switching" lane markers to speed up the process of fixing the traffic, but I like to go back and remove them once the actual problem is fixed. If you go back and look later, the cars will be doing the same lane swapping but just earlier and with less traffic. The problem is still there. Sometimes I create a left side of highway exit (LeftHandDrive) and they don't have to whip across the highway to get where they want. Good vids Biffa.
The traffic time lapse was pretty neat to watch, especially the few area's where traffic got better because it was so backed up in other area's cars could no longer get to them.
I finally started playing Cities: Skylines and it ate up at least 24 hrs of my weekend. Up to 30K populations and wanting to burn it all down to fix my beginning mistakes lol. Used alot of your traffic fixes and it helps a lot.

Biffa one thing you should try is putting stop signs on highway ramps this will give cars time to merge without getting all choc o block this is similar to ramp metering which allows a traffic light on highway off ramps which uses sensors to find a gap in traffic to realese cars or timed feed which the stop signs will simulate
4:07 they cannot take the two lanes because of the lane management in the roundabout :( Since they cannot switch after they need to take another big detour! :)
I understand the time constraints on these videos, but I'd love to see more fixes where you add more connections either over or under highways or add more paths and public transit. Great demonstration at the beginning of the video of how disabling despawning gets the traffic in the worst state possible before you start the video.
Reducing number of buses per route would help overall traffic congestion as well, saw he had buses backed up nearly 10 deep at stops that had no one waiting.
I agree. I need to break up that line into smaller loops. There are stops with hundreds waiting that weren’t shown in the video. I need to figure out where they are all going to see I can get them a better route
Yup. I think it was possibly a newbie move. ex: Sees 300 people waiting at a bus stop. adds more buses instead of seeing what is actually causing the issue.
@@Hermione617 - Honestly, I think it's the game. Either it just assigns a number of busses based on route length, or it pumps more busses out when they get caught in traffic and lots of people get stuck waiting. I could be wrong, but I know that I never thought to check how many busses/trains were in operation before I started watching city fixes. As a noob I just assumed that the computer would add the right amount. Honestly, I didn't even realize it was an option until I saw someone do it on UA-cam.

"UA-camr mercilessly watches mass genocide, 2019" - RIP 30,000k pop xD Seriously, though Biffa... I have solved all my own traffic problems by watching your vids. As entertaining as informative!
You were right, it is a really nice city. It really followed the natural terrain yet able to maintain such a large population. I also enjoyed the self made underground intersections, they are very hard to make look nice on console. Cheers
Very nice comment, thank you! It has lots of flaws, but Biffa was really good about not pointing them out. There is also a lot more of the city that he didn’t show because the traffic isn’t bad there.
Thanks to all your videos, my 150k city is at a comfortable 83% traffic flow with despawning off. Im not even scared anymore to dumped a giant industrial zone on ressources anymore!
I kept looking at some of those really close-together rotaries and thinking, "oval-about, oval-about." You ran out of time, but the public transport probably could stand to be looked at, given all those backed-up buses. And connections between districts within the city. Thank you again for the excellent tutorial and entertainment!
The beginning shocked me a bit what is up with needing to explain what is done before a city fix....I think another UA-camr did it too....I am a bit baffled to say the least but none the less another great city fix. Now, every time I am on the highway I always look at the lane mathematics. 😂😂😂 lol
another youtuber, "sam burr" who used to do city fix content, made allegations about how other youtubers manipulate cities to make them look worse than they are for the shock factor. Biffa and others now have to go out of their way to show that they're fixing legitimate cities that are untouched
I just went to Sam burs vidoe to see what everyone was talking about, and I have to say alot of his examples are very noticeable, like purposefully have bad lane switching, broken highways etc, are just plain obvious, it's like he thinks that the audience won't notice that no one is taking the highway or we won't spot cars not stopping at junctions like vanilla
Hi Biffa i got a simple little tip for you again. some people place their bus stops directly after the roundabout exit like here. 17:30 Like you indeed did, move it a little further away, but in addition, turn it into a buslane, and let cars pick their lane from the roundabout. you will get less congestion if ther's alot of busses.
That fix gave me a warm fuzzie feeling, I enjoyed the comments section too! Had to sub been watching for a while. PS: My mother always told me if you have nothing good to say, say nothing. Good advice me thinks ;)
I'm super bad at Cities and spend a lot of time consuming Biffa's videos to become a better player. Normally I ignore all advice because, well, console, but I love Biffa's content all the same. Transparency: my cities are all hyper generic. I turn off day/night cycle and weather effects because, you know, I am mayor. Sometimes, when I remember, I change the building style from default. Yikes. Love your game Biffa!
I just finished a 140,000+ population vanilla city. Traffic flow is 82% at its worst and 90% at its best, and that's without a single roundabout in the city.
Honestly even with despawn on my city is traffic hell. Well... 45-60%. IDK it varies pretty wildly. 100% vanilla no mods. Pop of about 90k. I dread to think what it would do if I disabled despawning.
@@Zerrados Now I'm curious on how bad the traffic can get with despawn off. Unfortunately, the Cities: Skylines I'm using is a bootleg/pirated copy... :(
you made me mighty anxious at post timelapse at the start there. the exit if the roundabout was with set lines,so they couldnt switch lanes, and im just sitting here going "oh please realise it already"
You've always been very open about turning off despawing in game fix videos. The tips I've learned from you have been the most helpful in managing traffic issues compared to most city fix UA-camrs. You're also the most fun and entertaining to watch. You and Move the Mouse are my go to's on City Skylines videos.
Turning off despawning is honestly probably the best way to do this type of series anyways as alot of people myself included have it on because they just want a nice city and if you can show tips that work with even worse traffic (that is only due to despawning off of course) It shows that it in reality these tips will work very well in a city with spawning on. Which in turn helps us even more. Also more traffic does make things more interesting as always. As I have watched these videos for a while I have gathered you to be a very honest and straight forward person who isnt just trying to get views for the sake of it. What I am trying to say is when you make a video it seems like you really enjoy doing it. Its nice to see and makes watching a pleasure. I really believe that you are just doing what makes you happy. That being making videos and letting others enjoy the content that you are very good at producing. keep it up and always do what makes you the happiest :D Thanks for the entertainment and tips!
25:05 Instead of making those 6-lane one-way road sections, I would have them two-lane two-way, and only allow turning right at the intersection (and the right-most lane of the 6-lane road between the roundabouts turn right). As we have biggish roundabouts at both ends, this will still allow cars to reach wherever they need.
Just started playing cities skyline with biffa's mod collection, Getting real bad traffic even with all those traffic tips. I think I need to design better cities first.
Possibly. Remember that as you go from highways > main roads > side roads, the amount of intersections and distance between intersections should go from few/far > more/close. One other tip: try to use 3-way (T) junctions instead of 4-way junctions whenever possible.
when i see radical lane changes like the ones you saw, it's likely due to the decision circles on the highway being too close together. usually just deleting the problem highway segments, and then rebuilding it as one continual segment will fix the madness. i saw a few examples where that would've likely fixed the issue in this vid, but the way you address it works as well. as always, great fix.
PLEASE tell people not to funnel all traffic onto a single road. This city is another example (like the last one and many before) where the city is split into districts with very few road connections between them. So all the cars have to go onto the highway through half the city twice just to reach a place that wasn't even have a map square away to begin with.
Honestly Bifa, even if you did manipulate cities before the fix, you are entertaining when fixing cities and I am very glad you did not stop. I just wish I learned of this game before watching you so my traffic was bad enough to send to you. Sadly, my traffic is constantly above 80% thanks to your tips. =(
Thank you for this biffa, i lost hope after the last how to make traffic video. I felt like someone told me santa wasn't real for a few days. This restored my joy in watching you again.
I have taken to generally always allowing traffic to pick lanes coming on to a roundabout - it seems to make a lot of difference to the flow and allows the roundabouts to behave more realistically.
Hey Biffa, I found that a roundabout is even more effective if you change the Speed Limits of the incoming roads to the same value as in the roundabout. Outgoing roads can be faster but must not be slower. Also 50 is a good speed for roundabouts IMHO. Only my very big ovalabouts are 70.
Biffa how do you stop the lane switching so quickly like you do @4:08 & 4:10? Is there a keyboard shortcut for that or are you manually dragging the lines with the lane tool & editing down the video? Sorry I know this is an old video but I’m still catching up.
Love your city fixing, keep them coming. :-) What I would wish for you to do is a city fix, in which you try to fix the traffic with only public transport/walking paths and not do that much road-work.
Infinite goods mod also help. It kills almost all trucks in city. But is cool for cities over 300k people. Finally no more exagerated abandoned buildings due to lack of supplies
For the last area, with the roundabout that you've destroyed, try to make a pass over the main road since the northern and southern part of that district is separated by the main road coming from the highway and they all end up in the other roundabouts.
Hey Biffa, in the Netherlands we found a method to get two roundabouts close together and not hamper each other. This is done by forcing traffic to take the connecting road between these roundabouts. This ensures that traffic keeps flowing and still is able to make a U-turn. See my workshop example here: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1768207320 With Traffic Manager TM:PE this is obviously also possible with a two way road in-between, by changing the turning lanes. Love your episodes!
At 24:54 you click a "Net Picker" icon (lower left corner) but my Net Picker icon is nearly center screen and I'm unable to move it (left click, right click, double click), any suggestions?
That worked, thanks. ;-) Question; Where would I find the surfaces (concrete, cobblestone, grass, etc...), skins, panels, paint used to extend ground over trenches, cliffs?
As everyone else has stated about a certain YT saying ALL city fixers use cheat methods to make things seem worse than they are, that comment at the end Biffa; ever the diplomat! I was going to comment (nicely but firmly) on that certain YT's video but he disabled comments. Cheeky so and so that he is. But we all know he must have just been talking about himself. Maybe others but not Biffa!
How do you get pedestrians to walk on paths that don't connect to roads like at 6:20? In my game pedestrians will only walk on paths when they are connected to a road in such a way that it creates a junction in the road. Would really appreciate the help!
hey there biffa =) Been watching these videos now for a month or two and as much as I appriciate the long episodes. But what would you think about some "quick fixes" ? Ppl send in a city with just one or two problem areas and you just do you thing. You could either cut them together for a normal length episode or a few smaller ones. I personally like to see how other people build their citys and get inspired for my own. so the more citys I see the happier I am :D Maybe you could even pick one or two areas you really like the look or design of and showcase it ? Anyway keep it up, have a nice one.
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines glad you liked it. sadly my city I'm building atm works too well for you to work your magic xD I guess you'd have quite a lot of citys to look at as is already ^^
I like it much more when you work with bigger cities. Making a 20k city reach 80% in traffic is easy, but the ones with 100k and above are the ones which need true love. I'd suggest fixing them in parts if it takes too much of your time
It can be good to make them only change one lane at each block, i.e. prevent them from changing two or more lanes in one place as that will slow down a lot. You can do this with Traffic manager

I thought he should have merged it into the adjacent roundabout to make another "ovalbout" like he did with the other pair too close to one another.
Hahaha :-D
The timelapse at the start is a really fantastic idea - it's really fun watching the red lines grow and spread. Please do this again in future videos!

Biffa and others now have to go out of their way to show that they're fixing legitimate cities that are untouched
John Pycroft Aaaah, I think I may have seen that video since I made this comment but I clicked off because it got boring. Thanks for info.
I love it Biffa, you were right in saying "un-fix-it" to often people think they have fixed-it when it becomes rubbish. lol. keep up good job.
As soon as you put those 2 little roundabouts in I was thinking that's got to be an ovalabout. Sure enough you did :D
Ah yeah 😁
Of all your videos I've see. The traffic cam time lapse was the coolest single moment. Its fascinating watching how it clogs up.
I love your city fixes and I'm not here for the drama. But please do more city builds. I miss your other series.
I just finished a 140,000+ population vanilla city. Traffic flow is 82% at its worst and 90% at its best, and that's without a single roundabout in the city.
Vanilla has despawn on by standard, but that's still a really good job!
Yep, nothing beats proper management of diverting traffic to where they need to go. Also...using T-junctions instead of 4 ways helps immensely too.
Honestly even with despawn on my city is traffic hell. Well... 45-60%. IDK it varies pretty wildly. 100% vanilla no mods. Pop of about 90k. I dread to think what it would do if I disabled despawning.
@@Stettafire Submit it to Biffa for consideration. It's worth a shot.
@@Zerrados Now I'm curious on how bad the traffic can get with despawn off. Unfortunately, the Cities: Skylines I'm using is a bootleg/pirated copy... :(
2:44 and onwards, watch it on 0.5x speed. Seems Biffa is drunk... with tea!
kinda mesmerizing to see all those metros moving at supersonic speed in the timelapse
Yeah I spotted those too in editing :-)
you made me mighty anxious at post timelapse at the start there. the exit if the roundabout was with set lines,so they couldnt switch lanes, and im just sitting here going "oh please realise it already"
Biffa can't fix it, therefore, " it's not traffic, it's business". " hi honey, I'll be late getting home from work. I'm caught in business"
You've always been very open about turning off despawing in game fix videos. The tips I've learned from you have been the most helpful in managing traffic issues compared to most city fix UA-camrs. You're also the most fun and entertaining to watch. You and Move the Mouse are my go to's on City Skylines videos.
👍
Im just happy to see another player who loves underground highways!
Mine are all underground
They are great if you have money and no open squares lol
Thank you for featuring my city!! I can’t wait to get home and download the fixed version. You are the best, oh great and powerful Biffa!
Thanks for sending it in. Enjoy 👍
Do you have any DLC's ? Sadly this savegame does not load for me, and it makes me sad :)
Filip Cakl yes, lots of DLCs. Campus is awesome, you should try it.
I know this is a very old video but 4:08 can’t pick a lane at round about
Turning off despawning is honestly probably the best way to do this type of series anyways as alot of people myself included have it on because they just want a nice city and if you can show tips that work with even worse traffic (that is only due to despawning off of course) It shows that it in reality these tips will work very well in a city with spawning on.
Thanks and you're welcome 😁
The big reveal that 'disable despawning' is used when the traffic is going for about 10kms out the city! Imagine my shock!
when i see radical lane changes like the ones you saw, it's likely due to the decision circles on the highway being too close together. usually just deleting the problem highway segments, and then rebuilding it as one continual segment will fix the madness. i saw a few examples where that would've likely fixed the issue in this vid, but the way you address it works as well. as always, great fix.
PLEASE tell people not to funnel all traffic onto a single road. This city is another example (like the last one and many before) where the city is split into districts with very few road connections between them. So all the cars have to go onto the highway through half the city twice just to reach a place that wasn't even have a map square away to begin with.
Thank you for making these videos. It has increased my game play and understanding of skyline. Even tho I'm on the Xbox 1 it has helped out tons.
Nice work, Biffa. Always nice to see how lane mathematics and a bit of traffic manager can solve a lot of issues.
I prefer to be honest with my viewers, always have, always will :-)
Very cool city. Now the little sims want to live there even more after Biffa fixed the traffic! Nice one Biffa!
Thank you for this biffa, i lost hope after the last how to make traffic video. I felt like someone told me santa wasn't real for a few days. This restored my joy in watching you again.
Nice 👍😁
Biffa is like Thanos. Let about 50% people leave or die for greater good. :P
Having a day off , just relaxing watching Biffa fixing trafic. I'm having a good time Keep fixing
I love all of the ways you have to fix traffic, they work great and they're really interesting!
14:17 that's not a highway, that's a low-way! 😁😆😂
It's interesting to see how the traffic moves. Some areas clear up and others become new problem areas. Neat
The trains are backed up, I sort that out later. A few tea pots later they still backed up lol. Please keep the videos coming 👍🏻
Can we have another tahi-tea city series, i reallly miss those and i wonder with ur fixes the traffic might be above 90%.. Thanks for the vids... 😁 😁
I have taken to generally always allowing traffic to pick lanes coming on to a roundabout - it seems to make a lot of difference to the flow and allows the roundabouts to behave more realistically.
Crazy how the red spreads through the veins of the city like a poison.
HAHA - I said - hey the map is bleeding when on timelapse
Lets make tea and watch your film!
Enjoy :-)
That underground interchange! Beautiful! 🤣🥰
Removed a roundabout! Are you okay? 24:00 just make it right turn only coming out? Neater and more effective...
Delete 👍
Love your city fixing, keep them coming. :-) What I would wish for you to do is a city fix, in which you try to fix the traffic with only public transport/walking paths and not do that much road-work.
Infinite goods mod also help. It kills almost all trucks in city. But is cool for cities over 300k people. Finally no more exagerated abandoned buildings due to lack of supplies
For the last area, with the roundabout that you've destroyed, try to make a pass over the main road since the northern and southern part of that district is separated by the main road coming from the highway and they all end up in the other roundabouts.
The worse the better; at least for fixing cities.
Biffa is the man!
Always a pleasure to have a cup o’ tea.
Great opening to the vid biffa 😀 Great Way of calling him on his bs, he clearly has some isues 😳
Hey Biffa, in the Netherlands we found a method to get two roundabouts close together and not hamper each other. This is done by forcing traffic to take the connecting road between these roundabouts. This ensures that traffic keeps flowing and still is able to make a U-turn. See my workshop example here: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1768207320
With Traffic Manager TM:PE this is obviously also possible with a two way road in-between, by changing the turning lanes.
Love your episodes!
Basically a differently shaped ovalabout 😋
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines indeed, but the advantage is the more curves in the road which slows traffic down naturally 😉
At 24:54 you click a "Net Picker" icon (lower left corner) but my Net Picker icon is nearly center screen and I'm unable to move it (left click, right click, double click), any suggestions?
Yes, look at the mods settings to change it 👍
That worked, thanks. ;-)
Question; Where would I find the surfaces (concrete, cobblestone, grass, etc...), skins, panels, paint used to extend ground over trenches, cliffs?
As everyone else has stated about a certain YT saying ALL city fixers use cheat methods to make things seem worse than they are, that comment at the end Biffa; ever the diplomat! I was going to comment (nicely but firmly) on that certain YT's video but he disabled comments. Cheeky so and so that he is. But we all know he must have just been talking about himself. Maybe others but not Biffa!
I like the way how you made is bad and and then make it good, it gives us the legit feeling!
How do you get pedestrians to walk on paths that don't connect to roads like at 6:20? In my game pedestrians will only walk on paths when they are connected to a road in such a way that it creates a junction in the road. Would really appreciate the help!
I love the time laps at the start, it felt like my screen was dodging up 😅
Another great fix by Biffa! - I would love if you would focus on public transport and trains also.
hey there biffa =)
Been watching these videos now for a month or two and as much as I appriciate the long episodes.
But what would you think about some "quick fixes" ? Ppl send in a city with just one or two problem areas and you just do you thing.
You could either cut them together for a normal length episode or a few smaller ones.
I personally like to see how other people build their citys and get inspired for my own. so the more citys I see the happier I am :D
Maybe you could even pick one or two areas you really like the look or design of and showcase it ?
Anyway keep it up, have a nice one.
Nice idea 👍
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines glad you liked it. sadly my city I'm building atm works too well for you to work your magic xD
I guess you'd have quite a lot of citys to look at as is already ^^
I like it much more when you work with bigger cities. Making a 20k city reach 80% in traffic is easy, but the ones with 100k and above are the ones which need true love. I'd suggest fixing them in parts if it takes too much of your time
It can be good to make them only change one lane at each block, i.e. prevent them from changing two or more lanes in one place as that will slow down a lot. You can do this with Traffic manager
