The reason Guilliman is my favorite Primarch is because both he and Horus came to the same terrible realization: That the Emperor didn't really love them and that the Astartes getting axed like the Thunder Warriors was a credible possibility. But while Horus fell to despair and ruined everything for everyone, Guilliman actually *did something constructive about it.* That's why every Ultramarine is taught civil engineering and administration, to ensure that even in times of peace his sons would have something of value to add.

Guilliman, unlike many of his brothers dreamed of the time he could put away his sword and dedicate himself fully to managing and improving the Imperium through the boring but essential act of good management.
Yes, super boring stuff, but few realize how indispensable and essential knowing where the records are, what the records hold and how to properly apply them, plus having the right forms for making a company be as simple as possible matter.
In this regard, all his Ultramarines where superb administrators and he left the best in charge of multiple worlds in order to properly bring them into the fold and make them prosper.
This actually worked and 10000 years later, the planets that where conquered and later united with the Imperium aren't just the most prosperous and well managed, but extremely loyal to the Imperium.
Who knew good administration was so essential?

Perturabo also dreamed of the day he could finally lay down arms and dedicate himself to building beautiful and wondrous works of architecture and engineering that would endure the test of time but, unlike Guilliman, he was too introverted and individualistic to actually pass down his desire unto his sons, and thus the only things they're good at building are fortifications and engines of destruction.

“Amateurs talk strategy. Professionals talk logistics.” Guilliman summed up in a nutshell. Guilliman is such a formidable Primarch because he actually TRUSTS his legion to do their job, instead of insisting on always leading them from the front. He's willing to delegate responsibilities to trusted lieutenants and makes it his priority to make sure they get where they're needed and that the resources they need arrive with them. More than badass warriors, the Ultramarines are known for being EFFICIENT. Guilliman does not believe in "acceptable loses" he believes in minimizing casualties by providing his troops the tools they need to survive, and to minimize risks. There's a reason the Ultramarines still to this day are the most numerous chapter when you include all their successors, they're REALLY good at not dying cause they're REALLY good at making sure the enter battle with every possible advantage.

@@slkjvlkfsvnlsdfhgdght5447 I mean potentially but logistics is more than just an aspect of strategy.
Logistics is what makes the difference between a fierce fighting force and a force that can build an empire. Strategy and tactics allow a commander like guilleman to utilize his soldiers and fleet with maximum efficiency and minimal losses.
Logistics is what allows guilleman to not even need to be the direct strategist for every engagement. Being able to delegate command to his officers and focus on resource and reinforcement movements.
The blood angels are a good example of amazing tactics and only standard logistical coordination. They can clap armies sure but there is a reason Sanginius didn’t have an empire and Guilleman does. The blood angels don’t use their resources as effectively as the ultramarines do, and no one does logistics better the Guilleman.
Guilleman isn’t using strategy or tactics when he’s administering resource movements across a thousand planets in a dozen sectors at the same time.
Guilleman Being able to ensure his forces are sufficiently armed and supplied to wage any kind of warfare while maintains internal cohesion and efficiency is the reason his legion had one of the highest compliance numbers, running a 500 world mini empire and being one of the biggest legions all at the same time.
There’s a reason why Horus was jealous of G man.

Guilliman's ability to take a devastating loss, adapt, and come back to fight even harder is very reminiscent of Rome during the Punic Wars. Fitting considering the overall theme of the Ultramarines.

    • @Dadecorban
      @Dadecorban Рік тому +14

Going to have to stop you there. There's nothing similar there except that both were comebacks. Occasionally you see the Romans adapt quickly, but most of the time they are simply able to keep losing long enough that they are able to adapt when other states would have just peace treatied. Look at the battles with Hannibal in the 2nd Punic War. It's literally Romans not adapting until they are on the brink of despair, panic, and possible siege of Rome; its only then they are pliant enough for Fabian to use his super adaptive strategy of.....not engaging Hannibal in field battles. In fact....the only battles that were won against Hannibal as the field commander, were battles where the Romans had Numidian cavalry. In fact, you never see Ultramar during 30K losing more than 10% of its male population after losing entire army/fleets one after another; which is what happened to Rome during the first two Punic Wars. I know you want to make this comparison work.....because of the Roman aesthetic but it doesn't.

Well anybody really.
And not all wasted their potential or used it rashly, Russ and Angrin has, as far as I know, pretty much rock bottom potential apart from killing stuff and conquering shit, which is the only two things they did anyway (apart from eating and drinking in Russ’s case XD).
Inventors and/or artists like Sanguinius, Fulgrim, Vulkan, or Manus also didn’t particularly waste their potential in those regards, again it’s more of a question of how widespread their impact could’ve been, and with the mechanicum around the answer is « not much ».

However, he acknowledged that his drive and the ideals Emps fought for were ultimately noble, and worth pursuing, despite the cost. Guilliman would be better off with literally any other loyalist primarch returning. That being said.......if they could work together....they will only work together as well as the plot needs them to keep things from going too well. Since a productive Lion/Robocop duo would be fucking overpowered. If Guilliman were able to stay on Terra, and the Lion run the next crusade......it would be ridiculous. Obviously the Lion is going to come back and cause problems. Then Dorne shows up and has problems with Guilliman, and then Dorne and Guilliman makeup, and counter balance the Lion. Then the Khan comes back and is a wild card. Then Vulcan comes back and dies again. Then Leman comes back and punches Guilliman. Then Guilliman goes back to Macragge. Then the Wolf King fucks everything up. Then Guilliman orchestrates a plan to setup a bunch of mini-astronomicons guarded by the new legions, send a new legion of Primaris into the Webway led by the Custodes, and while they push into the webway, the Emperor heals himself. Then he comes off the throne but he's become insane and retarded and Vulcan has to go collect his disparate soul shards from across the Imperium. He dies alot. That gets us to 43K.

I am paraphrasing this from something I read, but there is one thing that sets Guilliman apart from his Primarch brothers: maturity. I would say that the setbacks he faced during his life has been instrumental with his character development. While many of his brothers were able to reclaim whole worlds, it came at a cost for Guilliman in the form of his adoptive father's life. When the Horus Heresy broke out, Guilliman again had to confront the failure of not being there for the Emperor when He needed them most. Being able to accept failure and learn from it is maturity in its abridged version, and this is probably the main reason why Guilliman did not crack like Horus did when confronted with the Emperor's truth. The stupid idiots shouting about how Guilliman sucks can shout all they want, but I will say Guilliman's character development was done well. Not perfect, obviously, but if that was the case, then we have no story to tell.

There are a overwhelmingly large amount of what one could say character duplicates between the G-Man and Julius Caesar. If you know stuff about Julius Caesar and if you know the stuff about Warhammer 40K then y'all know what I'm trying to say....
1- Julius Caesar was not a warrior but understood the importance of a commander on the battlefield for morale.
2- Julius Caesar was rarely in favor of brash all out attack strategies when preferred a long drawn-out calculated assault
3- after decimating a population and thoroughly removing the previous governance instead of killing off the noble class integrated them into society.
Sound similar the list goes on but heck nobody even cares and nobody's even going to read this

The battle around them quieted, all other clashes and fights seemed pointless now that the two Primearch's faced each other. "So this is what you've become, nothing more than a vessel for everything that our empire stood against!“ Shouted Guilliman “I have learned the truth brother, I am…...Enlightened and you can be too if you merely let yourself be educated.” Lorgar stated “There is nothing left then, anything to be said has already been. Prepare to die. Traitor!” roared Guilliman as he charged his fallen brother. Lorgar quickly reacted by swinging Illuminarum, sending it crashing into Guilliman’s left shoulder pauldron, reeling from the strike Guilliman stands his ground, grabbing the shaft of Illuminarum pushing it to the side using the opening to place an elbow strike into Lorgar’s face. As he staggered backwards from the attack Gullimen raises his sword to slash as his brother, ripping his mace away from Gullimen’s grasp Lorgar raised his hand towards Gullimen, with a great blast of psychic might Gullimen was sent hurtling, as his feet make contact with the floor he digs in to stop himself, he looks ahead to see Lorgar swinging Illuminarum upwards towards his head, Robute quickly deflects the blow with his sword but with his momentum Lorgar brings Illuminarum into the air to bring down upon his brothers skull. Gullimen steps out of the blow just in time as Illuminarum collides with the floor shattering where it hit, in but a split second Roboute slices through Lorgar’s right arm, cutting it clean off of him. “ARGHHHHHH!” Lorgar hollowed in pain has Gullimen kicks his chest, knocking him on his back. “Brother it is not too late!, you can still be enlightened to the truth of our existence if you would just-” “Enough” seethed Gullimen as he raised his blade to end the corrupted primarch, but as his blade began to fall, Lorgar raised his arm and with another psychic boom froze Gullimen where he stood. “One day Robute, one day you shall be enlightened and join us.” Lorgar stated as he opened a portal behind him “but until that day please tell our dear father that I sai-” he paused noticing something on the peripheral of his vision “I told you i’d never stop hunting.” was all he heard before dozens of black talons pierced his back all the way through his chest. Gullimen now free walks up to his brother before raising his blade and with a grim look saying “Goodbye Lorgar” and decapitating the first heretic and killing him once and for all.

The excerpt of his revival scene is so cool, chaos is literally erupting around him and then he just unleashes. Another cool scene was where he met Uriel Ventris, it really gives you the sense of sadness and failure that Guilliman feels. But also shows that he despite who and what he is, he can be a humble leader.
