The Chaos gods being driven out of Horus' corpse is so catastrophic that some stars at the edge of the galaxy literally gutter out. Also, notice how varied daemons have been throughout the Horus Heresy, taking on chimeric forms of goats, deer, worms, etc. etc. Now that pretty much every human being in the galaxy has the memory of daemons, the Emperor's plans to starve Chaos of its nourishment have failed, and the book states that "the daemons will always be with them now." Pretty chilling.
And I suppose over the next 10,000 years, the crystallization of daemonic forms occurs due to the shared experiences between humans and daemons, such that there are more bloodletters, nurglings, daemonettes, etc. over generic horned beasts.
Except the 40k lore clearly states that all knowledge of Daemons is suppressed by the Inquisition. With those who meet daemons being exterminated and the big huge massive change to their doctrine the inquisition had to do with the Eye of Terror opening and Chaos invading thousands of worlds at once making it impossible to contain.

One of the neat things that Dan did in writing the Emperor vs Horus scenes was that the perspective of the fight is 95%+ from Horus who is still gathering his thoughts and is still entirely self absorbed with hints of madness and delusion. When he realizes Emps isn't talking to him when he says "You killed my son. Why?" Horus correctly figures out that Emps is speaking to the Chaos Gods watching from behind Horus. However Horus THEN assumes that Emps is asking why they killed HIM, Horus, his son. However this was >immediately< after Emps arrived and everyone is in shock at the sight of Sanguinius strung up, and after they were all told to take Sanguinius down.
So because its told from Horus' perspective it can be seen as him asking Chaos why they killed EITHER of his sons. It could be about Sanguinius. It could be about Horus. Horus assumes it is himself. However the important thing to note is that the Emperor has tossed away his compassion and whatnot so that events like seeing one of his favorite sons dead or needing to kill Horus wouldn't impact him negatively. Personally I think him finding Sanguinius, being unable to be emotionally moved by it in terms of sadness or despair, that it fits perfectly that he would stare directly at the architects of the events and ask them "Why" in the most flat, passive, hateful way.
But the entire rest of the fight can be looked at similarly - it's all told from Horus' perspective so there may be things that he is internally exaggerating, getting incorrect, embellishing, or underselling. And this, honestly, is just genius for writing because it leaves a lot of interpretation open for readers - You never know what's entirely accurate when getting information from a character that's drunk on power and recovering from self-induced insanity and still showing signs of touches of that same insanity lingering.
One of Abnett's finer works for sure
I also find it interesting that this book sort-of debunks the whole Rashomon style story of who stood against Horus in front of the Emperor and was annihilated, whether a Space Marine, a Terminator, a Custodes or a lone Guardsman, by having them all present at the scene doing their damnedest to delay the Arch Traitor.
Though that paints a rather silly picture of these people standing in line waiting for their turn like a revolving door.
Horus has been excellently written throughout the end and the death. I loved in vol 1 the way he was convinced he was being interviewed my Oliton and as a reader you're like "Huh, are these flashbacks" and towards the end of the volume the reveal that nope, horus has just gone fully off the deep end and is talking to himself in his quarters.
And the Horus v Big E fight was great. I find the actual combat in 40k books kinda makes my eyes glaze over but I was utterly absorbed by their rediculous fight.
@@fromthedumpstertothegrave3689 Horus made himself deliberately insane by hiding his consciousness in the past so he could hide his mind from the Emperor during the entire Siege he did it to avoid Big E's attention on his mind and hide his plans from him.
It's also doubtful that Horus was actually the stronger of the two as Horus was completely delusional at this point.
So Loken got shanked by someone who walked behind him.

The Order of Ollanius Pius is the highest military honour awarded in the Imperial Guard: "...Lucian lifted the winged medal of the Order of Ollanius Pius. Bearing the golden face of an angelic youth, laurel leaves arrayed across his noble brow, the medal represented the very highest honour a mortal man could earn in the service of the Imperium"
@@thelatinoguy That doesn’t answer the question. I doubt Dorn and Valdor paid attention to the dead Oll when gathering the dying Emperor and teleporting back to the Throne, despite the fact that he shouldn’t have been there at all. @@headlibrarian1996 what do you mean he wasn't supposed to be there? Pius was there to support the Emperor as one of the last remaining Perpetuals. They done Galvel Loken so dirty. They should have let him go down in the blaze of glory. Instead they go, ”Oh, Erebus stab him in the back. The End”. That is so cheap
This does fit Erebus though.
That's the point of his and Sanguinius' deaths. They were good and noble people, but even goodness and nobility can be struck down by pure evil (Horus and Erebus). So the foundations for the grim darkness of the far future are laid down.
It was never going to be a happy ending.
@@TheSonOfDumb It was never going to be a happy ending... but this seems like it's not meant to be a sad ending for Loken, as much as it's just another reason to hate Erebus.Sanguinius has a Noble and Heroic death, but to be stabbed in the back - literally? That's... just not sitting right.
I wasnt angry. It just got a laugh out of me as I thought "EREBUS FROM BEHIND WITH A STEELCHAIR" meme
His death birthed Sammus tho
Great Scouring series is now badly needed.
I personally find it weird that such a big 40k youtuber like you hasnt heard of the Dark Coil, which I think is the best part of the setting in terms of quality
The Majorkill Heresy, all content creators have to pick a side now either the Big Aussie Majorkill or the small medium sized WesHammer. Pick a side and battle in the comments. Either the WarMaster or the Empero. Which is which is up for you to decide…..
I thought weshammer had more subs but?
Baw, what happened to the Weshammer vid?!
40k has its own “dis season” now 😂
Man, sounds like the Custodes got fucked again. Being puppeteered by the Chaos Gods - ooook. But getting wrecked by the Blood Angels and Abaddon too?
it's warhammer, everyone gets fucked
The ending of the book was the moat emotionally confusing experience I've felt in a long time. Rest in peace Loken💪
Dan Abnett is a fucking legend👍 His Gaunt's Ghosts series is the best Warhammer 40k lore I’ve ever read.
Agreed! FIRST AND ONLY!!!
Erebus kills Loken?! The authors better make a book where Abbadon decides that he should kill Erebus for what he did to Loken, it might make him a more likeable character to me that he avenges his brother Loken and gives us Erebus’ death that we all crave
Yeah!
Wouldnt work, Erebus is actively working for Abbadon during the Cadian chaos assault
This is not the universe you're looking for.
Erebus will get what’s coming to him in time. Just let the Changer of the Ways have his fun first
@@pedropierre9594 that just feels like a continuity issue with what he did to Loken who I see Abbadon respecting to let him leave alive, but I’ll let it be
The End & the Death Volume 3 info starts at about 11:37 in case anyone wants to listen without spoiling the new 3rd book.
I love how GW just went "ah, fuck, yeah, also Erebus kills Loken, lol bye"
Your lore videos have made me love the ultimate chad Vulken, and that's why the compassionate chad salamanders are my favourite space marine chapter
Favorite part is when the emperor says, " It's you Horus!it's your Horus heresy!"
I will never get why Redditors think this is a funny joke.
I love the bit where the Emperor summons Star Platinum and unleashes all the Ora Ora Ora into Horus.
I finished it last night. Loken becoming Samus was the twist I never saw coming.
Did he? Or was it his death that created Samus as a separate entity?
I really hope they can finally drop the heresy and start working on something that isn't just space marines, but might include some xenos
Where's the latest video? Did it get deleted?
Lame.
Privated. Get your facts straight🫵
@@therealikitclaw8124Ruh roh raggy, that changes everything.
FUCKING EREBUS!!
So much for Grey Knight Garviel
Legion of the damned chapter master loken it is then!
@@Type_3_Screamer I guess…Still sucks
Holy hell, 😂
Literally "Lend Goku your power" moment. Epic and well played.
Horus- This is blasphemy! This is madness!
Emperor- THIS IS WARHAMMER 40,000!!! *Horus evaporated*
Didn't the heresy take place in m30 aka 30.000?
@@MNM-lq9te sike naw, you are correct lmfao
@@killerkaddy 40k?
THIS IS 30K!!!
Not going to lie, when I saw Rogal and Vulcan weeping I was too
Just going drop an accusation like that and then hide behind private setting? Come on dude, your better than that.
One has to imagine what would an expanded Age of Apostasy would be like
After watching The Exodite animated series, I'm curious about Tau Navy. Please make a video about them, their strategy and battles they fought against Imperium Navy.
Rahh this has built on the theories and is actually a sick ending
