Being in my early eights, I remember asking a Bishop one time, that same question. How do I know if the the Holy Ghost is with me? His answer was life changing. He answered my question with a very simple question. Do you know when the Holy Ghost is not with you? You will know when he is not with you. If you have done something that you know you should not have done. And you get that empty feeling inside of you, then is the time to repent. One important advice I received when my wife were sealed in the temple and that is, when you have an argument and you know the spirit has left you. Then is the time to kneel down and pray together until the spirit returns. It worked for forty-nine years.

Elder Bednar commanding not to take notes is revolutionary in the Kingdom. It's a tremendous paradigm shift from my youth and young adulthood, including what I was taught in the mission field by Sis. Nalder, my mission president's wife. Again, this proves the Church is led by continuous revelation.

@@utahman112I am sure it is not intended that way. I know the Lord would not have a condescending or arrogant member of the Twelve. We’re told the meek and lowly of heart enter the Kingdom of God. Would you consider praying for a witness of his heart and intention? Thank you for your comment.

Watching tv one day about what people do for a break routine. Maybe have been during the time of the Pandemic of Covid. And this programme is on tv sailing. One woman was training a boxer and she had on personal trainer he has a goal of more height to achieve, and every week the most speed and time. I like this. I had the experience found in one principle that I transformed myself to at Jesus Christ and my Celestial Father. For prayer first in the night but for all my day after. In my Patriarchal Blessing. It is not perfect but it is possible to strive to be. I love to do this.

Being a good boy or girl leads us to have further light and knowledge even though we might not realize it at the time. I have had a constant down poring of knowledge as I’ve studied the scriptures, but I didn’t recognize the this until I got out of my holy habit of daily scripture study. It is small things that add up to make big changes.

You are exactly right Andrew. I have to confess I have done the same as you, it is remarkable how the scriptures brighten your life more and more everyday. There's been days, I have had the thought oh, I did not read my scriptures this morning and it truly makes a difference what I experienced on a daily basis, with inspiration and peaceful thoughts. Some days I may spend only one plate at a time, only because it was more important then the rest. Like Elder Bednar said many times, just be a good boy and girl, then the Lord's yoke becomes very easy. Carrying a heavy load is all in vain. It makes it nice whenever you don't have to carry the heavy load of your world on your back.😊

It is appropriate that this conversation started off with “change”. As a life long member, I see how he is changing the way that prayer was always taught. My guess is that the pile of unanswered prayers have to also be evidence that god is answering them. Just not how you want. Think about the times you have prayed for health for you and loved ones, hoping and trusting that god would do his part if you lived righteously. Bad things happen to good people no matter what and visa versa. When one realizes this, the meaning and interpretation of prayers HAS to change. Hence this changing definition of prayers (from what has been taught by past prophets). I frankly agree more with his version, but it’s an obvious change. If you boil down his version, I hear, live your best life, get and receive help from others, and stop worrying so much about what prophets tell you, you get to decide how your prayers work and how to interpret them.

    Amen! Great insights.
Stand up for truth, if you want to be Israel and receive a crown. The Celestial kingdom is reserved for those who are valiant.
3 Nephi 21: "May be numbered"
    6 ... if they will not harden their hearts, that they may repent and come unto me and be baptized in my name and know of the true points of my doctrine, that they may be numbered among my people, O house of Israel;
    D&C 106: "are numbered"
11 Mine indignation is soon to be poured out without measure upon all nations; and this will I do when the cup of their iniquity is full.
12 And in that day all who are found upon the watch-tower, or in other words, all mine Israel, shall be saved.
    Isaiah 62: "Keep not silence"
6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence.
    Revelation 3: "Calm and Lukewarm?"
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
How long have we latter day saints wandered in our wilderness as captives in Babylon?
When will our hour of deliverance arrive?
When will the Lord's servant, Joseph, be healed (3 Nephi 21:10; footnote marred)?
When will the center place of the land of Zion be redeemed that we may build up the New Jerusalem to receive our Lord?
As Elder Bruce R. McConkie taught:
“Let Israel gather to the stakes of Zion in all nations. Let every land be a Zion to those appointed to dwell there. Let the fulness of the gospel be for all the saints in all nations. Let no blessing be denied them. Let temples arise wherein the fulness of the ordinances of the Lord’s house may be administered. But still there is a center place, a place where the chief temple shall stand, a place to which the Lord shall come, a place whence the law shall go forth to govern all the earth. … And that center place is what men now call Independence in Jackson County, Missouri, but which in a day to come will be the Zion of our God and the City of Holiness of his people. The site is selected; the place is known; the decree has gone forth; and the promised destiny is assured...” (A New Witness for the Articles of Faith [1985], 595).
As Elder Hebert C. Kimball taught:
"...[For] the time is coming when we will be mixed up in these now peaceful valleys to that extent that it will be difficult to tell the face of a Saint from the face of an enemy to the people of God. Then, brethren, look out for the great sieve, for there will be a great sifting time, and many will fall; for I say unto you there is a test, a Test, a TEST coming, and who will be able to stand?
This church has before it many close places through which it must pass before the work of God is crowned with victory. To meet the difficulties that are coming it will be necessary for you to have knowledge of the truth of this work for yourselves. The difficulties will be of such character that the man or woman who does not possess this personal knowledge or witness will fall. If you have not got the testimony, live right and call upon the Lord and cease not ‘till you obtain it. If you do not, you will not stand…
Then the Prophet Joseph and others will make their appearance and those who have remained faithful will be selected to return to Jackson County, Missouri and take part in the building of that beautiful city, the New Jerusalem.”
As our current mortal prophet taught back in n 1974 as Sunday School President:
"Our duty is to raise up a generation of men and women worthy to receive the coming of the Lord. For he will come - to Jackson County, Missouri, to be sustained as King of Kings - and he will come also to Israel to be hailed as Lord of Lords. Then his millennial reign will be ushered in."
Now, in 2022, President Russell M. Nelson issues the call:
"One crucial element of this gathering is preparing a people who are able, ready, and worthy to receive the Lord when He comes again, a people who have ALREADY chosen Jesus Christ over this fallen world, a people who REJOICE in their agency to live the higher, holier laws of Jesus Christ. I call upon you, my dear brothers and sisters, to become this righteous people."

The temple ceremony has improved tremendously over the last 35 years. The restoration is an ongoing process, and the Brethren are constantly looking for ways to improve the Church and the way the Gospel is taught and received by the membership. This last adjustment a few days ago made the endowment more focused on Christ and the Atonement, as well as better explaining each covenant and why we make them. "We are not here in this mortal existence to just stay the same" - I find this statement from him perplexing considering he and the other leaders implore members to stay in the same "boat" they have been in since birth (speaking about those born in the covenant) and to say the same basic testimony they started saying at age 3 until the day they die. If any of life's ups and downs, or if any information comes your way that has you changing in such a way that the Old Ship Zion can longer feed your soul or keep you safe would changing ships ever be acceptable to Elder Bednar or the other leaders? Would that particular change in someone's life ever be good with God? And if God really wants us to say in the same "boat" for our whole entire life how much change and growth can really take place in a person's life?

I believe the change he is referring to is the changes we need to make continually to be more like our Savior. Repentance is change, following the spirit requires change. The part that needs to stay the same is our desire to love and serve God in whatever way He needs us.

If they preach change and repentance than they should model it. The church is the slowest to change. Every godly social movement that has come about, the church has trailed behind 20, 30, 80 years. That’s not change. When the church has harmed the children of god, did the ship of Zion repent? Make restitution? No. Christ was the most critical of the hypocrites. Christ would call out this church because it is hypocritical. In deed and in thought.

Is this an honest question? You don’t see how someone can, and should, undergo substantial change over their life as a direct result of persistently following the gospel? It’s a purging process, if you actually avail yourself of it. Of course people are free to participate socially and not change at all.

@ericlaw2416 I was sincere in my inquiry on how it is Bednar and the other 14 leaders can seriously expect people to grow and change and become overall better people when they expect them to stay on the same small boat for their whole life, hearing the same lessons over and over and over. That Old Ship Zion becomes nothing more than an echo chamber where everyone uses the same words, thinks pretty much the same thoughts, and they even dress alike. Diversity is beautiful and is the thing needed for real growth. Lessons by the top 15 about "just stay in the boat" or to quote Holland "Don't you dare leave!" are not good lessons. Such lessons show a lack of faith in God, actually, if you think about it. If true faith in the God above was had, then fearmongering would not need to be used in order to keep people in. God and growth potential are both so much bigger than one little church headquartered out of Utah, that's what I'm saying. :)

@@certainlyitis Ok good. Can I be honest? It will sound like criticism but it’s not. If you think it’s a small boat you are absolutely missing something huge. It’s designed to appear that way. There is a surface layer to the general conference talks, the scriptures, the Sunday school lessons. And unless you get serious about “seeking” you will always see that layer. It will be rote and bland and jarring against your world view and world gospel that you are presently immersed in. I have learned, and it wasn’t that long ago, that the apostles are giving talks to at least two different audiences, every time they speak, that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not hear. Look that up. Matthew 13:10. Read it slowly. Why would Jesus take that approach? And if there was a reason for him to do it then, wouldn’t that same reason exist today? Would his servants do the same thing? I promise you they are. There are layers to what’s being told us that are astounding and so many are missing it. Because they can’t get past the first layer. The first layer offends their worldview.
There is a reason why they keep things simple with us. “Read the Book of Mormon daily.” Are you doing it? Do you think it’s little more than brainwashing? Do you think you know what’s in the Book of Mormon and the other scriptures? Because you read it before? Because you’ve sat through a thousand Sunday school lessons? I have a challenge for you. Reread the book of Mormon with sincerity and tell me it doesn’t teach you completely new things you have never seen before. Things about what you are going through right now. Even things you once “knew” but have completely forgotten. Try it.
      2nd, pray daily. Seek.
3rd, just to open your eyes in some small way to what I’m referring to when talking about multidimensional knowledge being given to us, look up “Mormon Yeshiva” channel. Browse through some of his lessons. This is a Jewish scholar who converted, and teaches people things about the Book of Mormon that you would never realize were there all along. This is just an example. Follow a come follow me podcast, to open your mind beyond what they cover in Sunday School. I like “Talking Scriptures”. You want some diversity? Don’t be hesitant to get someone else’s insight who has put in substantial work to get it. Also, move to Houston. Supposedly the most “diverse” city in the nation. Find the limits of what that ideal can offer.
Up to you. But we are quite literally running out of time to figure this out. That’s a message that is being conveyed right now.

Is that true? Why are lds covenants so important? I have been baptized, but in a Bible church. I have given my life to Jesus and I feel I am connected to God in the most meaningful way. What is it that I'm missing in the connection if I don't have lds covenants?

      Priesthood authority, simply put.
There are many great people of other faiths, they do their best with the light they possess, and that is worthwhile, but they are not building anything or truly progressing. What sets us apart is the authority of God. The Spirit can influence anyone and everyone, but we believe that it will dwell with us always as long as we are faithful to the covenants made at baptism. Basically, this is a pattern throughout history. The Israelites were led by a prophet in Moses and his counselors. They'd fall away and when the time was right, another prophet would be called and raised to lead or correct them. When Jesus came to the earth, He had apostles who followed His lead and carried forth His will, even after His death and ascension. They were all killed, and His face was hid for a moment, but He keeps His promises, and following the divine pattern, raised prophets and apostles to lead us in the latter days to prepare the world for His return. You don't have to respect them or believe they are inspired, but no where else on this earth will you find the kind of order built on the foundation of Christ, but The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is the true church of Jesus Christ, and it will stand forever. 🙏

Elder benhardt what happens when you're changing? Is that is correct opposition that you're asking the members of the church to accept when the doctrine of the church says that we shouldn't? In our day are you saying that because we're reaching out to the transgender in the homosexual communities and other people of other races that their God did not create? The races evidently he did because we're different in our complexior skin the color of our skin. There's many different anomalies and how different we look with each other. And now? Are you going down the path that there might be gay angels or bisexual angels or transgender angels? Where are you going with this? I guess these are questions I would ask you but I want a direct answer not some screwed call man that makes the church. Feel safe in its attitudes but with the church and the doctrine actually says elder oaks recently. Made comments on the doctrine of the family? I think was it straightforward but we're not getting straightforward answers anymore we're left to kind of wanderer. In the mist that the book of mormon describes hold on to the iron rod. It'll get us through this but if you're the iron rod and you're the leadership of the church as. Apostles and prophets wife should we not respect direct answers from you then screwed attitude that seems to? Adhere to the values of the world more than what we've learned or what we know to be the truth but I guess it all boils down to ask. The savior because you are men and you're flawed. But at the end of the day if we're trying to combat these issues in our community and say these are not guess we'll just have to deal with. The persecution that we're gonna get and if that ends our lives. That's fine I personally have not a problem with that but many of the members of the church are ambiguous about this. And they're pulling away in great numbers because we don't have a clear path anymore and it seems to me. Our leadership is not directing or answer these questions and saying well. This is my view or this is the savior view. I guess too many of us have relied upon the fact that you're a witness of Jesus Christ but not maybe a witness of your own values or your. Own views.

It’s amazing that after 180 years since Joseph was murdered, we still can’t come up with a solid description of the Holy Ghost that was as pure and plain as he taught it when he was alive.
That’s what happens when you murder the prophets. You get imposters who dance around the issue and chase ghosts for generations. This question should take 30 seconds to answer.
The reason you don’t know whether you’re feeling the Holy Ghost or not is because you do not have it. For those who are endowed with this heavenly gift, there is absolutely no question that God’s voice is speaking to them as a man speaks to another man. Read the Book of Mormon. What are the fruits of every person who receives that baptism of fire and gift?
They see the future. They prophesy. They speak in different languages instantly. They are surrounded by heavenly fire - actual light from heaven. They see angels, God, the heavens, etc. They describe it as literally being born again, becoming a new creature, or being spiritually begotten of Christ.
Have you experienced anything like Lehi, Nephi, the people under Benjamin, the Lamanites in the prison? The Nephites when Christ comes, or the Apostles at Pentecost? No?
Then why do the scriptures bother declaring the fruits of the spirit if we’re just going to say “I haven’t experienced THAT but I still have the spirit… it’s just smaller, confusing, and indiscernible after trying to ‘feel it’ for 50 years of church membership.” Either use the metric established in God’s Holy Books or don’t bother reading it at all.
If I told you I was a seer, your response would be “What have you seen, then?” And if my answer was “Well it depends because it’s hard to tell if I SAW something or if it’s “just me” or if blah blah blah….” then you would easily see my fruits are not commensurate with my claim.

      Jeremiah 23:
21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
Verse 20 is a dead giveaway that Jeremiah is NOT talking about the prophets in his day. He’s only using them as an example to talk to us, because he saw the latter day “prophets.”
