He uses the Missionary questioning pattern to make sure things are understood. Brilliant. 😊 Something I have seen in over 20 years in the church is how little people in the church read the scriptures, and even less the Book of Mormon. The scriptures give confidence beyond human reason.

What Elder Bednar said made sense to me. Just move forward and do your best, and as you strive to live your covenants and to do good and be good, the Lord will guide you. That’s it. That’s what Nephi did in the Example that Elder Bednar shared. He went forward not really knowing how he was going to accomplish his task, and the Lord guided him.

Thank you for your comment! So much has been going on in my life right now. My Dad passed away Jan 6th Mom is incredibly lonely and depends on me and my family for her many needs. Meanwhile me and my husband work every Friday on our Temple shift. We're ward missionaries, and my husband is the Mayor of our small town! I have son's living at home why doing college on line and one up at college. All three want to get married but nothing has happened to where they have had steady girlfriends. There all Temple worthy, and one is almost 30. I often pray but I feel discouraged, because nothing ever seems to move forward in a positive direction! But the gospel is the one and only thing that brings our family joy, so we hang on to it lightly ❗🙏🏻 I have wondered how we are going to accomplish all of the things we need to get done in this life. My husband had a blessing from our Stake president, before he became Mayor, in that powerful blessing the spirit filled the room and he was told by God to run for higher office and be a voice for religious freedom! And God would support him in this great effort! 🙏🏻My worry has always been about how it will all turn out. God's timing is also something to also be considered! But this simple message is what I needed, when you said just do as Nephi did. So thank you! 🙏🏻💕👑🕊️
I always seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost to guide me before I act so I will not be able to make a wrong decision. But because of this video, I've learned that its guidance comes when we first act and it doesn't mean it has to be in a dramatic sense, when we do right, the Holy Ghost will always be there to bless us. It's just the timing that prompts us to do the will of the Lord through His spirit.
Read what Alma said! That's the reason the scriptures tell us over and over to turn to God in all things! Not after the fact but hopefully before the fact, if not at inception. Learn to see, think, feel and do as Christ does. That's how you are qualified to have the Constant Companionship of the Holy Ghost! Beware of what Paul counseled Timothy! Beware of "Vain Jangling " and "Vain Babbling ".
It takes a lot of faith. What impressed me was the comment on where the confidence comes from and what its in. Not in me or my preparation but in God. Once we prepare, the spirit brings all things to our remembrance; I've had my lesson, talk, and prayers edited many times. When we are doing the right thing, the spirt will always be with us. We need to have faith in that.

Absolutely life changing!!!! Thank you. So much to hear over & over & apply. God is truly in all the details as we strive to do our best & be patient on His timing. It's a beautiful life long relationship 🙏❤ we are all doing great & take it one step at a time. Heaven cheers for us!
That was amazing! I am so thankful for teachers who bring the Spirit with them as they teach, but even more thankful for the gift of that Spirit in my life for guidance. Elder Bednar you have given me so much to ponder further. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much it has given me confidence to trust in the Holy Spirit not to rely on formulas but the process and doing the best I can and then being directed by the spirit
Its like this is a slightly more refined lesson on revelation. The simple act of going back to the basics of honoring ones covenants and not worrying too much about how you are being led but just trusting in the process that you are, with the proviso that things in your life will work out in regards to answers to our prayers whether the Lord chooses to answer them in a dramatic fashion or in a here-a-little/there-a-little way
This popped up in my feed while driving-because I needed it. All of my life my most life altering personal revelation has come through powerful dreams. I thought I was the only one, until I talked to my sister, mother, and grandmother. I haven’t shared them because I didn’t feel like it would be understood. This talk and your story about Africa is part of a pattern of messages and conference talks this year that says it is okay and I should share them. I am an author. I needed this message from you today. Thank you.
I was told that those powerful dreams are to help bless your loved ones. They are to be shared only when the Holy Spirit allows you to. Heavenly Father trusted those dreams for you to once again to bless you and your loved ones, and He did so because of your faithfulness. I have found that it is a spiritual gift that not many of Heavenly Fathers children have received. I too along with my Mother, Grandmother, GG Grandfather was given them also. Don't share those dreams/visions only when the Holy Spirit allows you to. You don't want to cast your pearls before swine. I did do that and learned a great lesson from it. Thank you for your comment 🙏 ❤
We are family with the Lord. He has adopted us and is our salvation through Christ's sacrifice on the cross, if we have accepted him. Would you tell a family member, do these things, so Father can talk to you or answer a question, or would he just tell you what he wanted you to do, or warn you of things. We live in Grace and are going to make mistakes. Please, Don't be so hard and rigid with yourself by trying to be perfect that you break and lose your faith. Heavenly Father is patient with his children as we are with ours as they learn their lessons. And he's willing to forgive us and comfort us if we fail one. His burden is light and his grace delightful.
And my faith and in my experience and receiving Revelations I had to realize how many times I was wrong and be able to comfort and move out of those areas that were harmful to create new surroundings because the surroundings I was placing myself around we're not those to find the path of righteousness is past leading me to endless holes of finding the desires and the process of the walk with Christ for the remissions of my sins
This is such an amazing meeting! I am so very grateful for this being shared online for anyone to hear!!! It's truly like the Savior ministering to us in modern days just like he taught on the Mount of Olives to anyone who would hear and follow His words. The Lord is using one of his Apostles, right here, as His personal mouthpiece, to any one of us who will hear and follow His words.
How is it that we get in our own way of receiving a revelation? How did this happen that we are creating obstacles for ourselves, when in fact it's much easier than we think? It blows my mind. But if you think about satan and how much he is trying to stop the Saints from getting closer to Heavenly Father, then these things start to make sense.
I feel like we sometimes feel we can't do things in life ❗ My teacher in Relief society told me, I'm humble to a fault! You can be so humble and think there is nothing special about yourself, that you don't feel you can accomplish what God is asking of you! And that's something some of us need to rise up, and change our mind set. We need to have an understanding that we are all special to our Heavenly Father and we have all been given talents to move forward in the gospel and in our lives.
In the words of Joseph Smith found in the Pearl of Great Price: "I was one day reading the Epistle of James, first chapter and fifth verse, which reads: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 12 Never did any passage of scripture come with more power to the heart of man than this did at this time to mine. It seemed to enter with great force into every feeling of my heart. I reflected on it again and again, knowing that if any person needed wisdom from God, I did; for how to act I did not know, and unless I could get more wisdom than I then had, I would never know;". The power of the words of Jesus Christ can come with great force into the hearts of those who listen or read them. Those are the kinds of experiences we need to have. Joseph Smith had a question and was guided in every step to read that scripture that would change the course of his life and the entire human existence from then on. We don't teach students enough to buuld those experiences with Christs words. Always direct them to seek wisdom in the words of Christ and to have faith that they will be guided to receive an answer in the Lord's own timing.
Every teacher needs to have a personal prayer before the class asking God to cast out all the evil spirits from within the students, him or herself, and the classroom, and too shield them all against the influence of the destroyer, the spirit will be very strong, and the learning experience abundant. Make it the school of the prophets as in times of Joseph Smith.
Satan seeks to tempt us to weaponize the Lords Gospel against ourselves. Often Satan tells lies, but more often, he strategically tells us the truth. Then the fallacy of a mortals mind takes over and takes care of the rest… Be awake, be believing in Jesus Christ and His merciful gift given which allows us the opportunity and privilege to repent DAILY. Jesus Christ lives!
I’m even curious about the idea that Christ is calling and guiding and yearning for even the sinner. That the Holy Ghost is calling for and yearning for and revealing himself to even the sinner. I just think that we’re always being pointed to Christ even when we don’t listen, and we don’t see it. So I don’t know how accurate it is to say that when we sin, the Holy Ghost is going to leave us, I think when we sin, we may leave God, but the Holy Ghost in our father still come to us and still try to inspire us and persuade us to repent.
IMO Revelations are important because it is The Holy Ghost communicating with our spirit. If we aren't spiritually connected and fed often, we become spiritually starved.
I have been trying to get my testimony about the church and about God , I have been praying every day reading the Book of Mormon I stopped drinking and having my morning coffee I even fast for a day and went to church on Sunday it’s been one month and nothing, is that mean I won’t get a strong personal revelation? I’m so confused.
I can tell that you have a sincere desire to know Jesus Christ. He wants nothing more than for you to know Him. Those things that you have given up and done for the Lord are surely recognized. The Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the gospel. There is nothing that the Lord is unwilling to give you and teach you. If you have questions, you can read the scriptures for answers. Personal revelation will come to you. It may be a small feeling. It could be an unexpected visitor. I cannot say, but the Lord answers all prayers.
as you continue on this path and keep doing what is right, pray, and read the Book of Mormon.....suddenly one day you will know in your heart that this is all true, by the power of the Holy Spirit.....don't give up the best is yet to come!
I get kind of scared, since we need opposition in all things. I think the adversary always gets in the way of true revelation. So when we get the gift of the Holy Ghost, does the adversary also want to give us of His spirit.? I seem to make a lot of bad choices?
Every religious person I have had deep conversation about their religion has claimed that personal revelation has confirmed their faith. Yet the conclusions often directly conflict with each other (islam and Mormonism, for example, deny the others founding prophet is in fact a prophet) Additionally, they all claim the others have partial truth, but not full truth. If the same method (interpretation of personal revelation) is leading to vastly different conclusions, is it actually a reliable method?
This is a very good question. I can only say that despite the challenges of personal revelation, talking and receiving guidance from of loving God is part of the plan. Even at times when we reach different conclusions, seeking to know truth with full intent is what God wants for us. The small differences in people's interpretation of the Bible or other scripture has led to many different religions, but I can assure you that God's highest priority no matter if you are Muslim, Christian, or Atheist, is for you to return to Him. This is only possible through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The most important revelation a person can know for themselves is that Jesus Christ came to earth as the only Begotten of the Father. God will not let His plan for His children become frustrated. Each of us can receive that same knowledge that Jesus is the Christ.
If personal revelation can lead to one person concluding that Jesus Christ is the way to return to god, and another person concluding that following the teachings of Allah as delivered by the prophet Mohammed is the way to return to god, then how can we determine which of these two conflicting personal revelations is correct?
@@derekbrown3552 Could it be possible that those two revelations are not as conflicting as it may seem at first glance? When I read C.S. Lewis's allegorical Chronicles of Narnia, I was impressed when Aslan, the Lion who represents Jesus Christ, is told something about those in another country not believing in him but worshipping some other person/creature, and his response is basically, "I am known by many various names, in various places." I am not wholly convinced that people who worship Allah are not in fact worshipping Jesus Christ. I DO NOT mean to offend anyone by suggesting this - I am certain there are many distinct differences in beliefs concerning these two Holy Personages, and what is understood to be Their teachings. What I am saying is that I have personally pondered whether Christ hears and responds to prayers voiced to one with another name (Isn't Christ a man with many names already? Aren't we encouraged to learn more about Him through studying His many names? Do ALL of His names need to come ONLY from "our" standard works?), according to the speaker's faith, just as He would to prayers spoken by one who happens to believe it is through "Jesus Christ" that their prayers are being answered. I do not claim to know the truth to this question yet. I'm just saying that I leave room for that possibility to exist - because I love, admire, and learn from the faith & humility of incredible people of other faiths, & I know that all good things come from God. "...Every thing which invites & enticeth to do good and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God."(Moroni 7:13) I believe that applies no matter which name we attribute to God.
The issue isn’t so much if it conflicts, as that the method is unreliable. Take, for example, take the idea of coming to to truth by looking at the stars. One persons looks at the stars and says “it’s Jesus” another person looks at the stars and says “it’s allah”. Appealing to “maybe they are the same” doesn’t address that looking at the stars isn’t a good method to determine truth.
Too many of the questioners/commenters in the audience were saying things they thought they should be asking or saying. They were following a cultural script. I think what Elder Bednar wanted was for audience members to be completely honest. In a way, their questions are revealing because they're voicing common conceptions and misconceptions; nevertheless, I think they would have gotten more out of the session if they'd just been themselves.
I was thinking the same thing. I think that is partly why he brought up the anonymous question story. Overall I felt it was a good session, I love his comments however!
Even Joseph F Smith was impatient w/ a Heber J Grant when Heber was only 23 yrs old yet John Taylor cautioned Joseph F who was called on a mission at only 15 yrs old b/c his overseers saw some things where Joseph F needed direction , this son of Hyrum & Mary Fielding Smith , & so John Taylor (3rd prophet) , had to help tutor Joseph F not to seek occasion against his brethren (dc 64) that helped develop Joseph F towards a grandeur of further insight later (dc 109.15) gained as he grew up in the spirit further & further line upon line (dc 128.21) towards marvelous insights he was able to have revealed (1 Ne 17.35) to him under the favor of the Lord (dc 138.1,11)!
For me when I have the Holy ghost it like a companion for me. I need to be aware. Like I ask to have the Holy ghost to go grocery shopping. I stay I in my budget not bye things I want. Show me deals that would be better. There is game changer 🙌 it's AWESOME! Your trust goes stronger.
He did make a point that we can't control the spirit, we strive to "always remember him," so that we can have his spirit with us. If we are being a good boy and a good girl the spirit will be with us. I was under the misconception of a bodyguard god, or a boyfriend god, that makes us feel wanted and protected and we always feel his presence. That's just not so and the scriptures don't support that.
If revelation comes the same to all people as it does to church leaders; study, discuss, ponder, proceed in faith, listen for a still small voice, wait for the right time, etc. Then what makes the church leaders “Prophets, Seers, and Revelators”? A prophet used to prophesy, a Seer used to use special instruments from God to translate ancient documents, a Revelator used to dictate revelation Thus saith the Lord’. Although I see great value in elder, Bednar’s instruction, here, there is a reason these church members believe the things they do about revelation. It is because they were taught it by the church leaders of the past.
You missed the point. He's teaching about personal revelation. Leaders are given the key to have revelation on how to lead and keep the church going in the proper direction. That's why you nor I were called to do that. Your already leading people astray.
Established in the Truth. Celestial Enlightenment, or Revelation is from The Son, Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit. What shines down from heaven, is sometimes for the church, other times it is for nations, states, cities, communities, neighborhoods, families or individuals. Know what Revelation is for who by who is receiving the revelation and what God has assigned them to. Men and women make mistakes and Prophets and apostles are not immune(think 116 pages of scripture lost). Divine Revelation is not from any man, prophet or apostle, because it is not the church of Joseph or Russell or Gordon or Spencer. Be not decieved... How? By FOLLOWING the Savior, in patience, line upon line, here a little and there a little, until the oil in your lamp is full and you are prepared for the tribulations of the latter part of the latter days. This is a test of effort over time. Hold your light high and glorify The Father, not yourself. Revelation is not about you, it's about HIM and how we are a part of HIS work. God will not abandon us in HIS work.
Have you ever read the Book of Mormon or the Doctrine and Covenants, or the Pearl of Great price ❓ Have you ever been to the Temple? Have you had my spiritual experiences with the church that I have had? No, so why are you here putting our church down?
I’ve done those things. And I no longer believe my experiences were actually a god interacting with me. Countless cultures have believed that their “powerful spiritual experiences” were a deity and countless cultures turned out to be wrong. It seems the most likely explanation is: humans have within themselves the ability to feel something they can’t explain, and then attempt to explain it anyway by inventing gods.
After watching this whole thing, the parable of the "Emperors New Cloths" comes to mind. That all these Seminary teachers just eat up these Anecdotal evidences and softball answers to an imaginary process. Once you take our faith glasses off this all just look so silly. Why is it that you NEVER see an Apostle of the Lord taking questions from non believers. ALL of them preach to the "Choir" in these videos that I constantly see when Elder Bednar is doing his Q/A's.
It is the peace I felt and personal instruction I received by the spirits voice, not Elder Bednar, who taught me. I know the exquisite joy and love that comes from having personal revelation and a relationship with God. Keep in mind that many of us were not members of the church when we came to know the Lord Jesus and believed. Some of us needed very specific answers to our prayers and got it through this video after much searching.
To each their own, if it brings you happiness that is wonderful. It just this particular church claims to be the one and only True church so its truth claims have to be researched. I have and they fell short. But if you JUST go off of feelings you will be just fine in this church. Oh and if you go to the "Right sources" to do your studying as they like to keep telling you. @@LifeGuardner
@@dirtbikeutah9615 God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith in answer to his prayer. Through Joseph, God established the church and a second witness of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon. I gained a knowledge of this truth the same way I gained a witness of the Bible. I read it first, studied it, and prayed about it. ''Feelings'' is not a word I use to describe my conversion. Right sources = the Bible & God, and after you've gained a witness through sincere prayer of the Book of Mormon, you'll also learn that the fullness of the gospel is being restored through the church and that it is ongoing. If you are really interested in learning and researching, then I suggest you look into the 'Come Follow Me' program where it is "You" who is to take the initiative in the home and be the teacher. The church teaches us to seek after Christ. Look to the words of 1st Nephi chapter 14. Verse 10 in particular. Nephi talks of only two churches in the last days and I'll give you a clue, the LDS church is not one of the two. Can you consider what Nephi is trying to teach us?
@@LifeGuardner I have already spent decades in the church, grew up in it, graduated from seminary, got my Eagle, went on a mission married in the temple jumped through all the hoops that were laid out in front of me in the "Straight and Narrow Path". Then my wife cheated on me with a 18 year old and I got divorced, after 12 years. It is then I finally stopped pretending to enjoy it and left the church. (Then my Bishop and Stake President said the then 19 year old could baptize my little girl and I could not. That was fun). I know the spirit is feelings because I let those "Feelings" guide me for a long time too. They are easily manipulated by organized religion. That is how they get money to keep them going. Just one sincere question. (This isn't a gotcha question) but I am curious how your reconcile this. Joseph Smith said himself he didn't use any other sources when he translated the Book of Mormon, and if the Book of Mormon is an ancient book as Joseph Smith claims it to be. How is it that King James bible translation errors (Italic words in Kings James Bible) appear in the Book of Mormon? (i.e. Isiah Chapters)
@@dirtbikeutah9615 A catholic I respect Taylor Marshall said about life "Most people forgot that we are still in battle". Like the experience you described, we have trials and struggles everyday. For both you and your first wife. I don't know each of your stories or the people involved and the reasoning for decisions. All I see is people all around me going though hard times. When you were on your mission, your goal was to bring people to Christ. It doesn't matter which church they join. So long as they come unto Christ, He can give them the peace that they need. I hope that you will sincerely look into my question when I asked about what "Nephi is trying to teach us?" . I will answer your question. I can easily see that “many plain and precious parts” of the bible are lost. Compare the dead seas scrolls if you wish. Joseph Smith began a new translation of the Bible to restore some of those plain and precious parts. His intent was not to rewrite the bible. There exists today several existing bible translations and the KJV which the church uses. --> [EDIT 9/26] I realized I have misread your question, but I didn't want to erase any previous thing I said so I inserted this. It wasn't about the JST of the bible, but rather Isaiah found in BOM containing the Italic words correct? Immediately what came to my own thinking is the Knowledge that the Book of Mormon is not a word for word translation of what the Book of Mormon people wrote. It has also been revised over 5000 times. It could be that Joseph, having read the bible, those impressions would have come to his mind during translation as directed by God.... Now pausing and doing some research because the internet exists :). I am confident on the answers found to this question already. [EDIT END] The scriptures teach us that you are responsible to seek out Christ. Don't worry about right sources. If you are not comfortable with anything else, then stick strictly to God and the Bible. In closing, it seems you attach negativity to feelings and I don't know why. We have feelings for everything we do in life, everywhere, at all times. From a scientific point of view, are bodies our built this way. This is how God created us. If you are at a place where you cannot trust your feelings/emotions and they are compromising your decisions... I can guaranty that peace is only available through Jesus Christ.

Thank you.
When you are ready to share I would love link. ❤️ other people experience has helped me too
I was told that those powerful dreams are to help bless your loved ones.
Thank you so much!! I loved it!!
Keep me safe. In his world 🌎💙❤
Thank you brother Bednar the teachings are great and we feel the Holy Ghost
PERSONAL REVELATION
COMES THROUGH THE
INSPIRATION OF THE
HOLY GHOST
And my faith and in my experience and receiving Revelations I had to realize how many times I was wrong and be able to comfort and move out of those areas that were harmful to create new surroundings because the surroundings I was placing myself around we're not those to find the path of righteousness is past leading me to endless holes of finding the desires and the process of the walk with Christ for the remissions of my sins
I'm really glad Elder Bednar paused on the 1st points to interact with folks for clarifications.
Thank you.
So grateful for insights and kindness ❤️❤️
Live as it is from the Lord the earth is his and everything as well.
WOW.... fantastic guidance
I think 🤔💭 it's because we can never really see our many gifts and talents that we all have that are meaningful to those around us!
Thanks again
In the words of Joseph Smith found in the Pearl of Great Price:
"I was one day reading the Epistle of James, first chapter and fifth verse, which reads: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Inspiring now know how to live in revelation
Pray 🙏.
I am redefining my concept of “simple.” :)
It's good to dream.

Thank you for sharing this. What meeting is this, where was it held, and who is the host?
There are old people who never think they're good enough.
I wish I could take a break from revelations. I can't keep up. 😢
IMO Revelations are important because it is The Holy Ghost communicating with our spirit. If we aren't spiritually connected and fed often, we become spiritually starved.
I wonder the significance, of the blue tie vs red tie meme.?
Is there a transcript of this somewhere?
I hope you don't have your videos monetized.
I don't. UA-cam's new policy puts advertisements in front of video's without consent. Source: support.google.com/youtube/answer/2475463?hl=en
@Life Guardner I don't see ads, I have YT premium.
It's just a big problem I see, I try to avoid channels that do it on purpose. 😅
Did he just throw the hinkster, and monsoon jack, under the bus? If so, than mad props.
I get kind of scared, since we need opposition in all things. I think the adversary always gets in the way of true revelation. So when we get the gift of the Holy Ghost, does the adversary also want to give us of His spirit.? I seem to make a lot of bad choices?
21:43 she would be so pretty with long hair
Every religious person I have had deep conversation about their religion has claimed that personal revelation has confirmed their faith.
Yet the conclusions often directly conflict with each other (islam and Mormonism, for example, deny the others founding prophet is in fact a prophet)
Additionally, they all claim the others have partial truth, but not full truth.
In fact, there are many cultures who would say “feeling something inside” is a terrible way to know truth, and looking at the stars is much better.
There is an official transcript for this video?;

The question is: "Find out where they are?"
Don't think that wasn't clear to Elder Bednar, that's why he changed the question and probed deeper. The nature of the question was being as well.
@@nuthintoprove I'm not sure what you mean.
I saw and felt complete vulnerability. Felt the spirit so strong.
@@tikotiko5328 Then you were edified. The session was a blessing to you.

Love the insight! Its true@
This guy is a normal man. Nothing special about his witness. Good man. But very normal.
[EDIT END]
The scriptures teach us that you are responsible to seek out Christ.
