10 years from now: How the movie jaws destroyed the entire ocean ecosystem

Peter Benchley, the man behind the novel "Jaws", which the movie was beased upon, felt very badly about this and was a very dedicated shark conservationist up until his death in 2006.
@ most people involved felt bad about it. Their intention never was to demonize sharks, but to make an intense movie, which it was at the time. Sadly, it ended up to be some kind of confirmation for killing sharks, that didn't do anything. And hands down, even when a shark kills a human, it's never an act of hatred or anything. They don't know such concepts, they just want to eat.
@@noneofyourbusiness4294 People are fucking stupid. Think about how people move into new housing developments and turn around when a cougar, bear, or any other wild animal shows up and wants them hunted because it's disturbing their peace. They don't think about the fact that they had to destroy a million acres of homes for the animals so that they can have a luxury home.
Maybe in a couple more million years they will have evolved even further, and their pectoral fins might have turned into little T-rex arms. That way when humans enter their territory, they will no longer be bitten, but instead get molested by an inquisitive white shark. Much better!
I don't really blame the companies, they want to make money, we're the ones who consume it. Now a day it's all about the sensationalism and the drama, and we consume it like a castaway finding fresh water. Hence the over saturation with "reality" shows.

BigMikeMcBastard I think it’s fair to say that the ocean belongs to the organisms that actually live in it, though the concept of ownership is irrelevant to most marine animals. Your videos are more interesting, informative, and visually attractive than most shows on netflix!!! Keep making videos these are seriously so awesome! :-)
So i always hear "you are more likely to get struck by lightning than be bit by a shark" but how do the ratios compare between lightning strikes to population vs shark bites to people who have been in the ocean? Like obviously shark attacks are rare, but most people in the world never even been near the ocean
Truth, I think some of these videos, are not showing real numbers and ratios. And possibly making people a lot less aware of sharks and taking them for granted the numbers would never be even you can’t come up with a real ratio when one group is not participating in the other event on a regular basis
I hate to be the one who says it. But we have a good abundance of "high fat to bone ratio" humans around. I mean absolutely no offense but I only mention it out of awareness of the fact. Please don't bite me, I'd rather pursue a career as a shark dentist. I had to show my gf this video at 6:20 because I'd just watched a video on parasites from snails and she had a hard time grasping how snails could rank so high on the fatalities list. Got her brain just spinning. lol Thanks FiM. Its amazing to see a monster of Hollywood and legend just being better understood to realize its just another animal. Not one to be particularly feared but certainly respected in any case. Though I could honestly die happily without meeting one face to face.
@@andrewsucksatvideos4482 oh yea!? ... You sure about that? ... Are you sure enough to jump into open waters without a cage in front of a great white? ... A hungry animal is a hungry animal, when the SS Indianapolis sank hundreds of people got eaten alive, with the right circumstances they certainly will and i'd bet my bottom dollar you wouldn't have the stones to find yourself in front of one as confident as you right now ... These are apex predators that can be highly unpredictable and although they may not have us at the top of their food choice, without an abundance of option you may certainly find yourself on that menu if the right circumstances present themselves.
I'm a scuba diver and I love diving but I "was" terrified of the Great White shark until my wife bought me a bottle of "shark repellent body lotion." The first time I was going to use it, the label fell off revealing the original label underneath....A-1 Steak Sauce. Now I understand why she took out a multimillion dollar life insurance policy on me. She said: "what would happen to our children if something happened to you?"...we don't have any kids! By the way, excellent presentation of the facts about sharks, particularly the Great White.

I think the reason most people demonize sharks more than any other predator is because we as human beings associate sharp triangular shapes with danger as well as sharks having a pretty intimidating appearance when compared to most fish in the sea.
Just like to point out the inaccuracy, Shark fin super has been illegalized in China, and carries a pretty heavy punishment. (Source: Currently living in China for several years.)
Could you elaborate? I've only heard of it being illegal in government banquets. Since you're living there, do you have access to more information? Thanks
Well I'm quite happy to have learned a few more things about the Great White, since all time that I have some knowledge of this species, you had me surprise by telling and explaining some of the little tricks like How work the warmth keeping of the shark ... And this is making a quite difference than some videos that telling stuff that everybody know even sometimes telling unreal stuff ... So just ... Good one and keep up the good work !
More people are killed by cars than sharks, yet people keep driving 🤦🏻♀️. I love sharks, without them the oceans would die. Also....when you realise great white sharks have splash fights 😂. Thank you for a fascinating video about these amazing animals.
@@stanstanstan2597 People hang around sharks more commonly than you think, surfers off the coast of California meet sharks all the time, the surfers just don't notice. There are youtube channels out there that show how sharks could be as close as 6m away from surfers and they don't notice.
I disagree about one thing regarding attack statistics. Yes, every year millions of people visit the beach, but most of them are not even in the water for very long. And most of them are not at a beach with a typical great white presence. The reason animals like bears, wolves, bees, dogs, etc kill more people than sharks is simply because both they and humans are land dwellers. We live amongst those things all the time. Most people are rarely ever close to a large predatory shark. And those animals don't consider humans prey either. The only explanation for those numbers is simply opportunity. If more humans were in the water more often, there would be more curiosity bites. Another thing: I'm not convinced you can rule out the mistaken identity aspect of bites. Several of the fatal bites from great whites were at high speeds.
Sharks are very important for our environment, if sharks are gone, the entire ocean would be dead to...truly sad how a misunderstanding and fishing leads to a catastroph😔😔
It's always amazing to see your videos in their amazing animation style and how amazing you create them.Always a masterpiece ,that takes it's time but worth every second to watch.
Great white sharks are full of love and want to give kisses to humans when they see them but since they have sharp teeth they hurt humans by accident. This makes white sharks very sad
Thank you so much on doing a video on these misunderstood amazing animals! I've loved sharks from a young age and it always saddens me when people talk badly about them. It also added a few facts to my shark fact library haha. Great video!
There are really only two sharks to actually be afraid of: The overly aggressive bull shark, and the only shark known to also be aggressive as well as doing it for actual predation: The Oceanic Whitetip, which has been attributed to deaths of many shipwrecked survivors. Great Whites tend to bite first as a test bite, and that bite rarely uses teeth, it's mostly figuring out if something is edible. Tugging back will cause them to go into instinct mode, and bite down properly. This is where most severed limbs come from.
Been watching a lot of these vids recently, given that great Whites are intelligent, I think it's fair to say they have their own personalities too, and whilst most don't attack humans, there are some who will give a test bite, and some who are, well dicks. Some sharks that are extremely territorial and will viciously attack swimmers, and others that are so hungry, they will attack to consume as has been shown in some individual cases.
人我是 only saltwater crocodiles will ever view a person as “prey” but only because they will literally eat anything they can kill. Fresh water crocodiles on the other hand are so docile when unprovoked that’s it is entirely possible to swim with them, as long as you do not disturb them they do not care
This reminds me of the movie the Shallows 2016, this movie is about a young Female Surfer who goes to Mexico Beach to surf On the water but then she was under Attack by a great white shark.
I only just now discovered your videos. Thank you for all your effort and hard work, especially so since you are doing it all yourself. I made some videos myself (though none of them are nearly as sophisticated as these) and I know how long it can take to make a video. Amazing work.
I had no idea sharks are curious. Curiosity is a sign of intelligence. I'd never thought of them as intelligent before. Poor sharks get such a bad rap!
Great Whites: "We are the top predator of the sea!" Orcas: (taps on GW's shoulder) "We're still here. Boo!" GWs: "Ahhhh! Craaaap!" (flees for their lives) Orcas: (turns to camera) "Before we got here, there was also a shark called Megalodon. No more."
@@ahmadfaiz4416 Tell that to the orcas. They say: 1) a dozen of them attacking in rotation will kill anything, and they're faster, smarter, and have greater endurance than any shark, and they work in simultaneous 3d coordinated pack/flanking tactics with sonar 2) you don't have to kill the biggest ones -- you can wipe out the small ones and the big ones disappear automatically after a while 3) if you bite off the fins, the teeth don't matter, and if you bite out the gills, the whole fish is done, and... 4) if you don't believe us, look at what we still do to great whites anywhere, any time we like. Chomp and roll, baby; chomp and roll. If you don't believe them, take it up with them. They seem pretty sure of themselves. The great whites also seem convinced enough that a whole population of them will flee an area if the orcas start in on them. There's even video and tag-tracking records of it happening. I'm not saying they are telling the truth. I'm just saying they could do it, and that's how they remember it. Maybe they got the story second-hand. Still, to this day, great whites survive by staying out of Orca's way.
@@ahmadfaiz4416 That's the spirit! Analytically, you're probably right, but the way I tell it makes a good Story. It feels more alive if you imagine a current-day resident of the deep recounting the tales of their heroic ancestors. With their huge, dense, complex, brains and oral folklore culture, maybe we can look forward to the day when some AI supercomputer can learn to talk/sing with the whales, and they tell us the tall tales of their histories in the seas. Human culture -- even the oldest shamanic threads --- only goes back 70,000 years, and we have almost nothing left from before 12,000 years ago, just a few shadows and scribbles, handprints on a wall, unexplained pictograms of totem creatures. Most of even our first advanced coastal culture is now under 30 meters of seawater, its evidence wearing away with the tides or forever buried in silt. Imagine, then, the grand living literature of a continuous whale culture passed down in song for 10 million years with all the nuances and varieties that allows... that's a library I would love to wander through, if only I can comprehend its meanings :)

People seriously need to reign in that sense of entitlement, as well as their urge to procreate, before they don't have a fit place to live.
Oh, and leave the wildlife the hell alone, and stop chopping down every tree they see. Those things keep a stable ecosystem to support our worthless asses.
Seriously, people... read a fucking book sometime. It's amazing what you can learn.

08:56 That is unexpectedly silly and even more unexpectedly adorable.
I watched the sleeper shark video ,for the second time, before and then I saw that you uploaded a new video.
Today is a great day.
So i always hear "you are more likely to get struck by lightning than be bit by a shark" but how do the ratios compare between lightning strikes to population vs shark bites to people who have been in the ocean? Like obviously shark attacks are rare, but most people in the world never even been near the ocean
Have you ever heard of beaches? Those are filled with people.
Truth, I think some of these videos, are not showing real numbers and ratios. And possibly making people a lot less aware of sharks and taking them for granted the numbers would never be even you can’t come up with a real ratio when one group is not participating in the other event on a regular basis
My father had a great white tank, he fed Hans Blix to the sharks in Team America

Freshwater snails spread the parasite that causes schistosomiasis. Think of how mosquitoes kill so many people every year.

Got her brain just spinning. lol
Thanks FiM. Its amazing to see a monster of Hollywood and legend just being better understood to realize its just another animal. Not one to be particularly feared but certainly respected in any case. Though I could honestly die happily without meeting one face to face.

Thanks

How often are humans around cars vs around sharks?
@@stanstanstan2597 People hang around sharks more commonly than you think, surfers off the coast of California meet sharks all the time, the surfers just don't notice. There are youtube channels out there that show how sharks could be as close as 6m away from surfers and they don't notice.
@@stanstanstan2597There is 70 million people in the ocean every day
I disagree about one thing regarding attack statistics.
Remember folks.
It’s THEIR waters. We are the Squatters!!!

Orcas Play with their prey
@@hugovasquez8222 Well both orcas and sharks
i am really afraid of shark for no good reason, but i can't stop smilling when you tell how smart they are :D
Please re-title: "Why Great Whites Are So Brilliant"
Great white Don’t see human as pray stop 🛑 making them monsters dude , But croc in the other hand is bigger , scarier and they see human as pray
after watching the movie crawl im never going anywhere near them. Because those were alligators imagine salt water crocodiles hell no fuck that.
人我是 only saltwater crocodiles will ever view a person as “prey” but only because they will literally eat anything they can kill. Fresh water crocodiles on the other hand are so docile when unprovoked that’s it is entirely possible to swim with them, as long as you do not disturb them they do not care
人我是 oh also crocodiles are both on average and on record smaller than great whites. Not by much but they are
Someone didn't watch the whole video.
This reminds me of the movie the Shallows 2016, this movie is about a young Female Surfer who goes to Mexico Beach to surf On the water but then she was under Attack by a great white shark.
Note that wolves and bears are under 10 deaths per year aswell
I don't know where the statistic's for the wolves came from since non rabid wolves do not attack nor kill humans
Also snakes.

Orcas: (turns to camera) "Before we got here, there was also a shark called Megalodon. No more."
@@ahmadfaiz4416 Tell that to the orcas. They say:
1) a dozen of them attacking in rotation will kill anything, and they're faster, smarter, and have greater endurance than any shark, and they work in simultaneous 3d coordinated pack/flanking tactics with sonar
2) you don't have to kill the biggest ones -- you can wipe out the small ones and the big ones disappear automatically after a while
3) if you bite off the fins, the teeth don't matter, and if you bite out the gills, the whole fish is done, and...
