Great video, liked getting to see Pete again and loved getting to see your Dad again! You are right about construction knowledge for sure! 20 years ago I would have tried a bee removal if I knew what I have learned from you in the last year and a half or so. Some places can be dangerous, it depends on how they were built. About 9 years ago I helped my brother in law, meaning I did all the work, to cut a hole thru the 1st story level of his and my sister's house to install a 220 air/heat unit. The house was built in a very remote area and the previous owner had built it himself. I'm glad I had an oscillating tool and chose to use that for the cuts inside and out! When I opened up that wall there was a power feed ran where I didn't expect one, I must have missed it by millimeters at the most. Any other tool and more depth would have got me! The builder had just ran it against the interior drywall. It bent out a little where I had cut and was flush against the drywall thru the rest of the opening, how I missed the topside of the cut must have been a miracle!

Randy, thank you for all of the advice on what to watch out for when doing jobs from a financial standpoint and hazards. The one that I had to walk away from was behind the chimney and going into the wall and I made holes on the inside the wall and no bee's and the lady told me that they were there for 14 year ...
Randy, you speak with so much knowledge and experience about biding jobs and construction. You have an advantage over most folks, because of your background with insurance claims. I have no desire to do a cutout although I love watching you do them. Tell your dad I said hello! I definitely understand how health problems can interfere with a man working bees. I’m looking at giving it up myself because I can’t take care of them like they need to be taken care of.
No doubt the years of negotiating insurance settlements helps. Keep dad in your prayers. He’s in the ICU unit since Tuesday. He’s in bad shape from some internal bleeding. They also discovered an aortic aneurysm that’s at 4.1, whatever that means.

Find a neighborhood of new home construction.... Study the framing, understanding the space bees need and that "corners and Joints" being where a hive entrance is likely to be. I once estimated a 4 foot soffit job which ended up being 10 feet of comb, plenty of solidified honey, and much more work that I estimated, lesson learned. I cant sell water during a drought.... honey sells itself. Small colonies in dirty situations, lots of hive beetles... after the removal, the brood comb holds that which causes the decline of the colony... toss all of the comb, and make them start fresh and clean. hard lesson learned, lost 3 this season.
Another informative and entertaining video, thanks Randy. Question: If homeowner's insurance doesn't pay for bee removal(s), do you carry your own personal insurance? The thought came across my mind when you handed Pete the smoker and remarked "it might be blowing flames by now."
Brick veneer home on concrete slab, Bees in the wall cavity.. I told the home owner it was going to entail removing a section of plasterboard to get to the hive and it would cost 1200AUD. They nearly had a fit and said the pest guy quoted 200AUD to exterminate the hive. Guess how that ended for them... 3 years later, same house, another hive and I quoted 2.5K and the guy couldn't get his wallet out fast enough.. Guessing the repair bill from the first hive was enough to make him realise a thing or two😂Always stand your ground on job pricing.
I'm itchin just watchin you remove the insulation. Never mind the bees... When you have to be in fiberglass insulation rub a 50/50 mix of baby powder and corn starch on your skin. It'll fill in the pores so the fiberglass can't get imbedded. If it doesn't help the itching you can at least see the bees better... lol
what if you get a bee call out assuming its just regular honey bees but it turns out to be killer bees without wearing a suit? how can you tell the difference before its too late?
LOL Money on the Barrel filled with Gold!! Gotta shake your head at folks "wanting to be paid" to have you remove bees from their house thinking they are doing "us" a favor!
Was at another apiary yesterday in Arkansas, they do cutouts. They told me that once their work started causing the big pest control companies to not have as many bee killing jobs, they were forced to get a pest control license. Craziness.
They said they had to get all of it. Pesticide applicator and all. Just what they told me. Might just be the pest control people pressuring the local government. I don’t know.
That's something for you to negotiate. It depends on what they bring to the table as far as skill set, abilities and tools. Your helper may be worth more than you. Completely depends.
I charge $200.00/hour for myself and my helper who I pay $40.00/hr. more often than not the homeowners are wrong in how long the bees have been at the location. If I get a homeowner that wants to screw me I go to the vacuum and tell them I will release the bees. For some reason I get paid! Can you imagine?
Funny how customers vanish time to get paid.. I hit them for 165.00 right off the bat basic service call.. they decide to move forward I take the 165.00 off the job.. I know guys run a lot adds charge 250.00 to bid it and it's always 4.995.00 ... They make living off service calls.. bid 6 a day at 250.00 each pretty good money.. I'd bid the first one 400.00 second one 1.200
Funny enough me my brother and a friend pulled the engine and transmission out of my old Camaro in forty minutes one time. Of course we were very experienced.
We don't work hourly and because of the wide range of what would be acceptable across the country I typically tell people to charge what they feel is fair or find out what local pest control companies are charging for comparable services.

I'm itchin just watchin you remove the insulation. Never mind the bees... When you have to be in fiberglass insulation rub a 50/50 mix of baby powder and corn starch on your skin. It'll fill in the pores so the fiberglass can't get imbedded. If it doesn't help the itching you can at least see the bees better... lol
You owe me $1 for everyone that doesn't watch the video but still asks how much you charge for a job!
Do you take checks? It's gonna be a big one.
I use stainless steel pot scrubbers from amazon to plug holes. Cheap and easy to use. Just sayin.
How do you and your partner share the rewards?
what if you get a bee call out assuming its just regular honey bees but it turns out to be killer bees without wearing a suit? how can you tell the difference before its too late?
I'm off to enroll in Junior Samples sales Techniques.
LOL You probably already have the uniform.
The slime was something I hadn't seen before. What causes it? Or do I want to know? 😂
Is a mucus produced by small hive beetle larvae. Nasty stuff!
It’s only been there about 2 weeks!!! 😂😂😂
Every time. haha
LOL Money on the Barrel filled with Gold!! Gotta shake your head at folks "wanting to be paid" to have you remove bees from their house thinking they are doing "us" a favor!
How about insurance and bonding? Business license? Work permits? Those things are never mentioned.
We are insured but for this business none of those things are required in my state as well as in most other states.
Thanks for the reply. Good to know. I’m in Arkansas.
Was at another apiary yesterday in Arkansas, they do cutouts. They told me that once their work started causing the big pest control companies to not have as many bee killing jobs, they were forced to get a pest control license. Craziness.
@@mark_coyle If they aren't using chemicals then they don't need a pest control license.
They said they had to get all of it. Pesticide applicator and all. Just what they told me. Might just be the pest control people pressuring the local government. I don’t know.
Great video Randy, my question is this, what is a fair amount to pay a helper for a 4 or 5 hour job?
That's something for you to negotiate. It depends on what they bring to the table as far as skill set, abilities and tools. Your helper may be worth more than you. Completely depends.
This is fun😊
I believe i have you beat on the sweat factor .😅
Let’s call it a draw.
Does Pete keep bees?
He doesn't but his best friend started last year and he is mentoring him.
Just watching you touch that fiberglass insulation with bare hands makes me itchy!
Your my kind of carpenter rooster , you can take a car engine out with a pair of channel locks and a screw driver.😁
Funny enough me my brother and a friend pulled the engine and transmission out of my old Camaro in forty minutes one time. Of course we were very experienced.
Whats your hourly rate?
We don't work hourly and because of the wide range of what would be acceptable across the country I typically tell people to charge what they feel is fair or find out what local pest control companies are charging for comparable services.
ミツバチを育てるという仕事についてとてもよく話してくださいました。
Thank you for the nice comment. :)
removing vinyl siding is a PIA.
I would think live removal should cost at least as much as exterminator
Better to Bee Shocked By Price than stung by 🐝🍯🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝😊
I make $150. an hours for the Honeybee relocation.
As someone that spent 15 years in construction, I don't want to do cut outs.😂
Fastest siding in the South!
