  • Meteora is a rock formation in central Greece hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. The six (of an original twenty-four) monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area. Between the 13th and 14th century, the twenty-four monasteries were established atop the rocks. Meteora is located near the town of Kalabaka.

    Well detailed description of your visit to Meteora and Kalambaka. I myself had the unique opportunity to visit these sites during the end of March 2024 and agree with you about how impressed and relaxed I was climbing the well maintained stairs ( quite a few of them ) of the monastery of The Transfiguration. There are taxis, buses ( public transportation ), scooters that can take visitors up to the monasteries. Time is a major factor for access to the different sites, the majority of them close at 2:00pm, so the monks or nuns can continue with their religious calling.

    Thanks for video - it's been helpful in my trip planning! If you've never been to the Mesa Verde National Park cliff dwellings in Colorado, USA - I think you would find them interesting. Be sure to do a tour so you can actually go inside them!

    Thanks for the sharing, I am planning for this trip in my coming visit to Athens this April. I tried to join the local tour, but the timing doesn't suit my plan. So I have been trying to search information about self tour, unfortunately not much information so far. Any idea?

      Hello, yeah so my recommendation is to catch the train from Athens to Kalabaka. Once there either pay a taxi driver to take you to the different monasteries or rent a scooter for the day or you could even hope on a local bus to take you around. Hope this helps 😊👍🏻

    Can I climb up to the monastery and see the grounds if it it closed or are they completely blocked off?

    • @YouTube-Seany_Boyy_
      @YouTube-Seany_Boyy_  Рік тому

      When there closed there’s no access and when there open you will have to pay a small fee to enter each one 🙂👍🏻

    When filming the monasteries, did you launch your drone from the monestary or from somewhere else? I’ll be taking my Mini 4 pro next week.

    • @YouTube-Seany_Boyy_
      @YouTube-Seany_Boyy_  20 днів тому +1

      I launched my drone from way outside the monasteries, as I didn’t want to disturb everybody there. If your ever taken your drone abroad you’ll know most people hate drones 😆

    Thank you for the clean video. It's pretty much covered. Just wanted to know whether can we do all 6 in 1 day or do we need 2 days buffer to do the activities? In case of stay, where to stay in Meteora?

    • @YouTube-Seany_Boyy_
      @YouTube-Seany_Boyy_  Рік тому +2

      I would say you can do all 6 in one day but it will be a busy long rushed day. Will be more enjoyable over two days :)
      I highly recommend staying in Kalabaka. It’s a lovely town in the heart of meteora
