@N D I went once and I remember the monasteries was close to the village, maibe 15 min....are close one each other, yes...not all every day..yes for parking...yes for toillet....
THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH for going to METEORA, dear GABRIEL MORRIS You and your video are AWESOME. We started to cry as we watched it. Congratulations on your fabulous accomplishment. You are a LEGEND now. -- Your devoted SUPERFANS, Mark and Becky Ochs. YOU REALLY ARE the BEST EVER.
So beautiful, as if I saw another planet, or let's say heaven, a view that relaxes the eye and the soul and makes me unable to express my feelings and deserves a million likes
As I am Greek Orthodox, I am so glad that you never belittle Christians or any other religion and their followers/believers in an any of your videos. You are always most welcome to our humble places of worship. I still think your visit to the holy city in Jerusalem is one of your best ever. But this is up there as your best. Yasoo
So true. In a few videos, while on hikes and shirtless because of the heat, Gabriel has stopped before entering isolated Greek Orthodox Churches in the middle of nowhere to wear a shirt. He wouldn’t enter the churches otherwise. Respect!
Thank you Gabriel for the opportunity to visit Meteora. I was there in the mid 60s and I never forgotten it. It's a very spiritual place and I feel so grateful that thanks to you I was able to this virtual visit. Go well Gabriel and keep filming.
Until the beginning of the 20th century there wasn't any stairs for the monasteries like there is now. Supplies and people were going up and down using a net (shaped like a bag) hanging in the end of a long rope. They pulled the rope up using a wheel system. Somewhere in the video in the first monastery I think, there are some directions given on the wall by arrow and there is one saying "net" 7:01 . There is a particular room with the wheel where this antique "elevator" leads. Google meteora lift...
Visited there about 15 years ago. I stayed in the little town below and caught the morning public bus up to the top to the most further monastery and then slowly walked back down the hill ....about 5 K back to the town, visiting monasteries and enjoying the country views along the way. It was in spring time so not hot and busy. A wonderful memory.
We are taking a tour, so I don't know if their mini bus will drive us to where the public bus stops. Walking down slowly with stops will be fine for us. From the bus stop, how far is the walk going to the monastery? Or can you take pictures from the bus stop area?
Camped in Kastraki, and hiked the ancient monk's trails up to a few of the monasteries in Meteora. Was such a special, spiritual place. Nice to see you there Gabriel!
Wowwww very Fascinating place of Meteor a and beautiful Monastary thank u sir Gabe for your Wonderful video keep safe Godbless from the Philippines sir vhin 🇵🇭👏👍👍❤️💕🙏🙏🙏🙂🙂🙂👏👏👏👏👏
isn't that place amazing...and the drive to there is so spectacular. Visited 5 years ago and remember being awed by that history. Greek food, islands, history, everything was wonderful.
Great stuff again Gabe, thank you. An adventure I hope to take at some point. Not just the monasteries but the scenery around them is also spectacular.
Went there as a child in the 80's. Still have vivid memories, an absolute wonder. Just returned from Leonidio area, not far from Sparta and Tripoli. If you haven't already been there, the monasteries are amazing. Especially Panagia Elona, St John Prodromos and Mega Spileo, to name a few.
In the northwest corner of Thessaly, just beyond the town of Kalambaka rise sandstone peaks where monks settled in around the 11th century. Meteora, meaning ‘suspended in air’, is famous for its monasteries perched atop vertical peaks - but few know that before their construction in the 14th century, hermit monks first climbed these soaring stones to settle in the caves and hollows of the rocks as early as the 9th century. As hermits, they lived a life of solitude and isolation but legend has it they would climb down on Sundays for mass, held at Doupiani. By the 12th century, Meteora was home to a thriving ascetic community.
Thank you Gabriel. You are a great relief in these times of pandemic. I'm looking daily to your content and wish you had more merchant stuff to support you. Keep on and god bless you!
Exactly,or at night time also, especially if there is a ceremony going on in one of the monasteries and you can just hear the psalms and the chants, while sitting on one of the rocks outside ! I've experienced this so many times !

I’ve watched your video a few times already, each time with tears in my eyes. It’s truly a blessing that you were able to visit this beautiful part of Greece. It’s on my bucket list and I’m Greek! Safe travels dear Gabriel! PS. If you’ve never been to Monemvasia in the Peloponnesian region, it’s worth the trip.

If you're around still.......other great spots are the hot springs that Alexander frequented (Loutra Aridaias, or Loutra Pozar: very beautiful nature), the gorge of Kouiasa (very beautiful; nature) near Kalarites village (also near impressive Syrrako village), the Baros mountain pass (highest paved road in Greece), the Valia Kalda national park and its sights, Kipina monastery near the Tzoumerka mountain region, Lake Plastira (make it to the viewing spot).......I assume you are familiar with the Vikos Gorge.......cheers!!
What an incredible place! It's always been on my top 10 places to visit before I die. Thank you so much for this amazing video of your trip - makes me wanna see this place even more intensely now!!!
Gabriel, thank you for this incredible video. I have nice memories on my own visiting of this sight when I visited St. Stephen's and Great Meteoron Monastery like 8 years ago, I was really fascinated. Varlaam and James Bond's Holy Trinity look absolutely amazing, too, I see. It is also nice that you now go to some sights where you were like 31 years before. It is always nice revisiting some sights where beautiful memories from the past are hidden.
Haven’t watched your content in over a year! Glad I found it again! Your channel was an inspiration to me and my life of travel! God Bless Gabriel and stay safe out there!
Stunning video gabe as always, so glad you showed the monasteries as well as the stunning settings it was very interesting to see how wonderfully well kept the condition of Monasteries are kept in I seem to recall, years and years ago the only way of getting inside the monasteries was by being hauled up in a basket on a very very long rope , your video of the Monasteries reminded me of another famous well known traveler / travel writer Parick Leigh Fermor i think he stayed / lodged over night in some of those monasteries or it may of been the Monasteries on Mount Athos (carnt remember which) during his travels through greece on foot from the Hook of Holland to Istanbul in the 1930s when he was able to live on £5 gbp a month i think he wrote 3 travel books about that journey.
Now mount Athos Gabriel, that's an idea !!! If you secure a permit, then you can stay at the monasteries, that means no expenses at all !!! Rare scripts and treasures, as this area was not subjected to the ottoman rule. It is a very spiritual experience, if someone is open to it !! Since women are not allowed to go there, some footage would be great!!
such a magnificient place. i hv very fond memories ofmeteora and the kalambaka village i will come bck here. the restaurant foods were amazing. i don remember the name. but it was in the centre and near the fountain. and roundabout. amazing. i love greece
Thank you so much for this video! We were in Greece in 2020 and due to the pandemic, we were unable to visit this magical place! We appreciate all your videos!!
Hi Gabriel, Simply spectacular every Christian should put this on their list as important as Jerusalem to see as well as other religious locations. These monasteries are incredibly well maintained for the years they have. They must have taken an incredible amount of time to build because there were no trucks or heavy equipment in the past.
I am just now running across this gem of a video. I have no idea how I missed it. I have been so curious about the Monasteries of Greece for years. Fantastic! I felt like I was right there! Amazing video!
If you have the chance to see it there's an entertaining action movie called "Sky Riders" from 1976 starring James Coburn that has the monasteries in Meteora as a crucial aspect of the movie. Terrorists are holding a family hostage in the monastery and a team attempt a stealth rescue by hang gliders. It's all done before CGI so the action scenes in the climax are pretty thrilling - you're bound to recognize all of the locations at this point.
The views are incredible so Ancient
Congratulations Gabriel, Greece is not only Mykonos and Santorini.
Exactly.
Keramoti 🇬🇷

Yes...takes time

Wow, what a beautiful place. Never knew such a place existed. Looks like the perfect backdrop for a great Movie.
“For your eyes only “ James Bond
Wow! Fascinating! This has been one of my favorite videos you've done
Thank you Gabriel for the opportunity to visit Meteora. I was there in the mid 60s and I never forgotten it. It's a very spiritual place and I feel so grateful that thanks to you I was able to this virtual visit. Go well Gabriel and keep filming.
some real nice art in that church
went to Meteora a few years ago, also spent some time in Trikala, a cool small city that is nearby.
Thank you for the beautiful and respectful representation. Amazing views.
Always getting away from the crowds! That’s the reason this is the best travel content!

Buses will stop at the monasteries which are the only places scattered along that road@@tonyo7324

So beautiful thank you for posting! As a Greek myself one day I wish to go there with my family!💞
Reminds me of the Bond movie ‘For Your Eyes Only’! Must’ve used one of these as a filming location!
Yes it was there

Hi Gabe. If you are still in Greece and before your visa expires you can visit Vikos Gorge. Just a proposal or maybe another time if you left already.
Amazing, Gabe I have put this on my list for our next Greece travels!👌😍
Thank you Gabriel. You are a great relief in these times of pandemic. I'm looking daily to your content and wish you had more merchant stuff to support you. Keep on and god bless you!
Great sights Gabriel👍would love to see this monastery one day.🤗
Beautiful Greece 😊😎🙌❤ thank you Gabriel ❤🙏☀️🌊
beautiful scenery and history; thank you for sharing!!
Very nice tour! I visited Meteora in 1971 and I recall it having been much more rustic. I'm glad it's been so well preserved and cared for!
It is magical there, especially during sunset

You can go in zagori too…it’s fantastic and near from meteora
Greetings from Düsseldorf
Oh,i have also seen people climbing these rocks with NO ropes at all and i was like ready to fade from horror and despair !
Can you imagine years ago trying to get supplies up to these areas?

Hi Gabe, have you been to the cliff monastery on Amorgos? It’s stunning!
Great view of what looks like a fortified town down in the valley. Greece Tourism Board should thank you or at least send you a small cut.
Great work gab! Doesn’t get better than gab in greece.
Incredible video, thanks
