    Hello friends , please allow me a small correction of something you said , Meteora means suspended ( in the air - adjective plural ) not floating rocks and it also where the Greek word meteorite comes from . Have fun on your travels ,God bless .

      Ah, thanks for the clarification Greg! The name is very apt, the monasteries do look like they are suspended in the air. Thanks for watching!

    You have been to many beautiful places!! It’s with the heck. Sucks that you couldn’t show us inside. Greta information to know before you get there. What a day. Definitely adding i to our list when we visit. It reminds me of Mount Fanjing in China. I can see why it’s your favorite.
    Cheers to another great video!

      Thanks for watching Gladys and Kenny! You and us both! Yes, it reminded us of Asia as well, for us it was similar to Tigers nest in Bhutan, but without the gruelling 3 hour hike at altitude!

      Meteora was mind blowing! Whilst full of tourists when we were there, we hadn't heard of it prior to visiting Greece. The area reminded us a lot of the Tigers nest monastery in Bhutan, albeit a little easier to access!

      @@henrysteppel2031 That sounds crazy these in these days! There were relatively strict dress codes for women in some of the monasteries, so a guess there are still remnants of this.

    Love your videos and just found you online. Curious about your trip to Meteora. How many of the monestaries were you able to hike to from Kalabaka? Is it the Monestary of holy trinity? Is that only accessible by hiking? We are so excited to go.

    • @BucketListTravellers
      @BucketListTravellers  Рік тому +2

      Hi Lauren, so glad to hear you enjoy our videos! We hiked to see all of them over the course of 2 days. The holy Trinity Monastery is the closest to Kalambaka and we visited that one and the St Stephens monastery on our first afternoon from Kalambaka. The next day we walked from Kalambaka through Kastraki to visit the other 4 monasteries. Word of warning, the Great Meteora monastery closes earlier than the other monasteries and we got there with only 30min to spare! Another thing to bear in mind when planning is that certain monasteries will be closed on certain days. It is a really awesome place, have a great time!

      @@BucketListTravellers Oh, amazing experience! I loved every second of it especially because I love hiking and Meteora was on my bucket list for more than 25 years. I always wished to visit all 6 of them and always found agencies and organized tours that offered one or two of all 6. So I postponed it for years until a coworker told me she visited all 6 by herself. I hiked those beautiful mountains twice. First day I visited St Nicholas, Rousanou and St Stephen. One day break at the hotel by the pool, then another hike for St. Trinity, Varlaam and Great Meteoron. Both times leaving the hotel at around 7 30 AM and coming back at around 1 30 PM. I walked many kilometers on those high roads but that was the best oportunity to take pictures, videos and enjoy those spectacular vues. To be honest , I was planning to visit the closed one too, Ypapanti but the heat was unbearable and it was at least one more hour of walking from the Grand Meteoron. I would go back anytime. The only downside was the transport though. It took me 7 hours from Thessaloniki airport to Kalambaka (bus, train, 2 hours waiting, bus).

      @@flowerpower7308 What an awesome effort! It is a much better experience being able to explore the monasteries in your own time rather than be part of the bus loads of people. You are right, the best photo opportunities are along the roads. We were there in early June and it was already around 30C, We'd hate to go at the height of summer. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, we're really glad you had an amazing time!

    • @BucketListTravellers
      @BucketListTravellers  4 місяці тому

      You are most welcome! We would advise against going over the peak summer months (June, July, August) as you will be lost in a sea of fellow tourists under a blistering hot sun. It is best to go in the shoulder periods of May and Sept, where the weather is still comfortably warm and it isn't as busy.

    Did they give any reason why there is not filming... I can kinda understand because they ARE religious sites. However, they are clearly tourist destinations as well. they could even upcharge for those that want to film. ha I just wonder what they might be hiding.....I'm a bit cynical perhaps. ~JB
