How to build Honda Fourtrax 54% gear reduction

- Here is start to finish on how I built and tested my 54% gear reduction. Hope it helps everyone out that wants to build their own.
Parts needed as mentioned
2001 Honda Foreman 450 Primary Gear P/N: 23621-HM7-000
Suzuki DRZ 400 Clutch Basket
okay we have a honda 300 and we use it at out hunting camp and it doesn't have huge aggressive tires on it and it spins them great and still goes through pretty thick mud, i feel like most people who say they're great use them for things like hunting
Agreed. just bought a second one so we'll see what one can handle on 26s soon
I came back to this video in hopes of figuring out if I can do this to a KLF300/bayou 300. I'm thinking with some serious machine work I can make it happen.
can't say for sure I've never tried to build one for anything but a Honda 300. good luck though!
Just change your rear end out from a 300 rear end to a 350d rear end .
You need to put smaller tires on it then you will not break the diff.
Iv broke diffs with 26s and there not aggressive at all so tires can’t be a problem some times they are I got buddies with 33s and 30s and never broke a diff

I did. don't even have any footage with it in there but it now needs a pinion gear and a hole in the case

jus got a gear reduction from my buddy installed it and now no neutral light or reverse but oil light works any tips?
Yep cut the green wire on the 3 beside your clutch cover and ground it to a clutch cover bolt. It’ll think it’s always in neutral and start in any gear
When bearings go back the teeth will break. Looks like your diff is full of mud causing the bearings to go out
What the part number
Found the foreman primary but all the clutch baskets I find are like 130 plus. You have a link where you got it from or did you get it off a parts bike?
I’ve just been finding them off of parts bikes mostly on marketplace. If you’re in North Carolina I’ll sell you a clutch basket for 60

How much of a reduction would it be on a 2010 Honda rancher
not sure this set up will work at all on a a 420 rancher sorry man
The only other four wheeler this would work on. I’m pretty sure it’s a foreman 400 or 450 and it comes out to like a 69% or something
There's 2 rear ends you can swap in that are tougher ones from the 250 big red and I can't remember the other one.
I actually have one that didn’t last either. It was either a 250 big red or a 350d diff not sure which but it now has a hole in the housing
@@mattjames5996 damn I'm shocked. As weird as it sounds Kawasaki's bayou 300 rear diff will work if you weld 300 mounts to the axle tubes. Splines line up and all but the bayou has a different gear ratio. you could swap front diffs aswell and have another reduction so to speak. I've seen it done on 2wd fortrax bikes for the rear so I'm sure one could machine a different u joint or adapter for the front diff. I've never seen a bayou rear end come apart and I worked at a kawi dealer so it might be a bit stronger.

You running a spacer behind the primary gear?
Nope, no spacer.
Did you machine the inside of the 20 tooth primary gear being it’s splined to get it to fit or will it slide on with no problems after the stock gear is machined down

I have a few ideas on what 17t primary I would need for the 80ish%. Any way to get in contact with you about em. And would I still run the drz basket gear with the 81%

had one, it didn't last either. pinion gear still ripped out
