I'm 66 and my husband passed away 5 years ago. Very recently, the Lord has brought you into my life (I live in Malaysia). Someone I needed to get me out of my comfort zone. I need discipline in my life, even though I have commitments in church. Thank you

Excellent video, and superb message. In the last couple years I've found my way back to the Church and have been grappling with a lot of the topics you touch on in your videos. I found this one to be one of your more inspirational. You really have a knack for digging into the heart of the issues and taking on the big subjects. Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching, sharing and getting more involved in service work.

Thank you for this message of the Good News. You are gifted and blessed to reach hearts like mine that throughout my 59 years I have questioned just about everything, especially theology and dogmas. Please keep this "ministry" to preach to people through these means. Thank you.

Thank you so much for the amazing talk. I see the joy that the Lord is bringing you in your life. I could not keep my eyes off of you as this talk was captivating. I truly see the presence of the Lord working in and through you and it is inspiring. I pray that I too may one day be able to show that same love and joy that the Lord is placing in my life. Keep up the great work

I wish I had heard you speak when I was in college. Your talent is literally a gift from God.
I am trying to keep my children open to the idea of vocations. Currently, my oldest (age 11) wants to be a nun. This world tries to its best to disuade people from vocations, but it is people like you that will inspire others, Brother Casey. Thanks for all you do!

Wow! I really love this speech. God gave you a talent! Thank you. Now, I have something else to say other than God came to atone for our sins and give us redemption, but to give us “life”. God bless and peace be with you.

This is such a great video. Thankyou for sharing these talks Brother Casey, they're so insightful. I have a question for you. What were you allowed to take with you when you entered the monastery? Could you take your own bible/rosary/clothes/photographs of family? Keep up the great work! God bless you.

I'm a bit of a nerd so I enjoy reading scripture, lore, mythology and other biblical writings as well as participating in mass, but the thing that sometimes makes me feel like distancing myself from the church right now is some of the more extreme discourse.

Brother Casey, a beautiful video of course. I appreciate all that you do. However, don't you see the parallels between the old Jewish temple story that you told and the Roman Catholic Church's laws? Surely you can see it.

    • @BreakingInTheHabit
      @BreakingInTheHabit  7 років тому +1

It depends what you mean. I think there are some things in common, but a lot more that only look similar on the surface. Could you offer an example of what you're referring to?

    • @soul61296
      @soul61296 7 років тому

Thanks for responding, brother in Christ.
The parallel that I see mainly are two things but I will also mention unrelated things that aren't parallels to Judaism's Temple.
      Sabbaths and fasts:
2043 The fourth precept ("You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church") ensures the times of ascesis and penance which prepare us for the liturgical feasts and help us acquire mastery over our instincts and freedom of heart." (CC 2043)
2192 "Sunday . . . is to be observed as the foremost holy day of obligation in the universal Church" (CIC, can. 1246 § 1). "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass" (CIC, can. 1247).
2181 The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor.119 Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin. (CC 2181)
" Therefore do not let anyone condemn you in matters of food and drink or of observing festivals, new moons, or sabbaths. "
      (Colossians 2:16)
"And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath."
      (Mark 2:27)
"when you were buried with him in baptism, you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And when you were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God[a] made you[b] alive together with him, when he forgave us all our trespasses, 14 erasing the record that stood against us with its legal demands. He set this aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed[c] the rulers and authorities and made a public example of them, triumphing over them in it."
      (Colossians 2:12-15)
Sacrifice of the Mass: (Us Lutherans still acknowledge the real presence in the bread and wine of course, as Christ clearly said to drink of his blood and eat of his flesh.)
"1367 The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are one single sacrifice: "The victim is one and the same: the same now offers through the ministry of priests, who then offered himself on the cross; only the manner of offering is different." "And since in this divine sacrifice which is celebrated in the Mass, the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross is contained and is offered in an unbloody manner. . . this sacrifice is truly propitiatory."" (CC 1367)
" For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself again and again, as the high priest enters the Holy Place year after year with blood that is not his own; for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the age to remove sin by the sacrifice of himself. "
      (Hebrews 9:24-26)
      -------------------------------------------------Unrelated-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vicar : a person who is authorized to perform the functions of another; deputy
      Vicar of Christ
A title of the pope implying his supreme and universal primacy, both of honor and of jurisdiction, over the Church of Christ
"And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven."
      (Matthew 23:9)
The pope (Latin: papa from Greek: πάππας pappas,[1] a child's word for "father"),[2] also known as the pontiff (from Latin pontifex Maximus "greatest bridge-builder"),
      Mary :
"This motherhood of Mary in the order of grace continues uninterruptedly from the consent which she loyally gave at the Annunciation and which she sustained without wavering beneath the cross, until the eternal fulfillment of all the elect. Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation . . . . Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix." (Catechism 969)
" Forthere is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human, "
      (1 Timothy 2:5)
Just a bit of stuff. IT's subtle. The LCMS Lutheran Church Missouri Synod believes in the real presence and baptismal regeneration. We LCMS Lutherans have Holy Days aswell. Even all saints day. However, we attend because we sincerely want to celebrate for we are being sanctified by God's glorious grace and I am not saying some Roman Catholics attend for the same reason that they sincerely are transformed and WANT to commemorate Holy Days. It is not a grave sin to not attend these days. I am saying that when you make it a law threatened by sin when it is not backed by scripture then you get the Easter and Christmas Roman Catholics who just go because well, you don't want to sin. The Law is just as much as a shackle as sin is. Freedom in Christ, if you delight in God he will give you the desires of your heart and those desires will no longer be your own, but they will be the desires God placed in your heart through sanctification.
Of course Roman Catholics such as you LOVE to commemorate Holy Days, and love to fast, and really are transformed/transforming. However, you can see where the laity that has a wife and kids would just see it as what it is called "Holy Day of Obligation" without the real sanctifying weight and DESIRE to do these things. Only fear.
Just know that I am not here to argue. Obviously you are truly faithful to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. I am not trying to say Roman Catholics are damned. They are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They partake in the real presence holy communion and good Roman Catholics have true faith of course. If anything, the reformed baptists/non denominationals need to examine themselves more because they do not even acknowledge the communion as being real presence , they say it is only a symbol and we both know what Jesus said about those who drink his blood and eat of his flesh gain eternal life and are raised on the last day.
I believe that those people are in need of being evangelized more than the Roman Catholics or Orthodox. The Romans and the Orthodox moreso need to just examine why they are doing these things. I understand that the Roman Church tries to guide people into being Holy through specifying these days and marking them as a grave sin if you neglect them. I understand there are some good intentions there. I believe in the One invisible Catholic church composed of any and all who have been baptized in the name of the trinity described in the Athanasian Creed, have true saving sanctifying faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and drink of the blood, eat of the flesh of Christ in Real presence holy communion. I already see you speaking this in the amazing video you made here. I see that you are trying to coax Roman Catholics into having a strong relationship with Christ.
So yeah, let's evangelize those reformed baptists/ non denoms.
Anyways, I love you and you've given up so much for the Lord by the Grace of God. You have been called to a noble task. You will always be my brother in the body of Christ and I will see you in everlasting life. Blessed be the eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the Kingdom of God.

Thanks for your (very long) comment. I think there are definitely parallels to the Jewish faith, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. We still believe that the Jewish people are the chosen people of God, and we ourselves are one in faith with them in some thing (same God, same relationship, same foundation of prayer, etc.) Simply that we have things in common with them is not a problem.
The issue would be if our faith became the exclusive domain of the pure, wealthy, educated, or racially superior as certain strains of Judaism perpetuated. Those things needed to fade away. The temple was destroyed and the temple veil tore in two. To the extent that our faith has put burdens on people, created separation between the clergy and lay, or made it more difficult for people to receive the Lord, then yes, there are negative parallels still alive.
But mostly we intentionally keep alive the good ones because we have a common root and our prayer is still very culturally Jewish.

We can't be God, but we can be like God, sharing in his divine life. Imagine a fire burning some wood. The wood takes on the characteristics of the fire by glowing and becoming hot. So imagine God is the fire and we are the pieces of wood. We will be like God only. God is God alone.
