- I went to BANGOR... in Northern Ireland! (29/05/24). I fancied going to Bangor, not the Welsh one this time but the one in Northern Ireland, so I took a trip which involved riding with TfW, Aer Lingus and NI Railways to get me there.

I come from and live in Newtownards which is very close to Bangor, i did live in Bangor for 15 years, its just a relaxed little place and a nice place to unwind 😌 loving your vlog 👌
Great to hear, thanks a lot! 😀
Love the aviation videos, would love to see some more in the future!
Thanks!
What a marvellous journey - visited Northern Ireland many times on business - wonderful scenery, excellent food and friendly, kind people. Highly enjoyable - as always !
Amazing, thanks a lot!
I live in Bangor NI..... it's not a bad wee place to live in or just to visit. Thanks for showing people our wee town
Wee thanks! 😀
Thanks for the video G,lovely plane, awesome train. Well done for travelling alone enjoy Ireland!!😎🚝🚝🚝🚝🚝 🇮🇪 💚
Thanks Christopher!
Enjoy Bangor. My Mammy came from there and I still have cousins and extended family over there. I don't get over anywhere near enough but I love it when I do. The people of Norn Iron are so warm and friendly so enjoy your time there.
Haha thanks and yes everyone was very friendly 😀
Another enjoyable vlog G! Made my first Aer Lingus Regional flight recently too, those ATR 72's are real rockets on a good day! The bridge that takes you to Sydenham Station is a fantastic spot for plane & train spotting!
Amazing! And ye was a great view from that bridge 😀
Never been to Northern Ireland. Been recently to Ireland. Great video G and those tickets are bizarre
Yeah they were bizarre haha I got paper tickets the rest of the trip 😂
Northern Ireland is the best 🇬🇧👍
Looks amazing. I have only done it in the dark and a long time ago. Think we often forget how easy it is to get across the Irish sea and what a fascinating place it is. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks very much!
No way! I was just over there in Bangor myself at the end of last month visiting my 2 elder sons , hope you had a good time ,me and my youngest lad love your vids he's a proper train ( and bus) fan
Lovely to hear, all the best to you both!
This had everything for me, my life is complete! we had planes (It was an ATR72-600 btw), we had trains, we even had some buses as well
Haha good glad I said it right 😂
G! I work in the train station in Bangor NI and somehow missed you! Hope you got to do the coastal path because it is lovely.
Shame we didn't meet, the staff I did speak to there were lovely and helped me out! 😀
Iv never been to Ireland, and it looks great and you make it , something to put on my to do list, you come up trumps once again , It Deserved a Squishy shout out, you never fail to please us on your Vlogs Many thanks G hope you had Fun, take care
Definitely put on your to do list, was a brill place to visit!
Hi G. It's nice to see you stretching your legs and going to Northern Ireland. I love NI and have been loads of times and the north coast is magnificent. The train ride from Coleraine to Londonderry is stunning and it runs along the coast.
Ah I didn't get as far as Londonderry, did have a ride down that line tho
£27.99 was an amazing price for the flight ticket
And an absolutely brilliant vlog 👍 Shtunning views of the flowing water at Bangor Marina as well
Thanks me dear shuttining!
Great variety of videos ! A good watch as usual .Thank you.
Thanks a lot!
Great video G. The quality of the colours are as great as is the presentation. nice one.
Thanks very much!
Planes, trains, and automobiles! 🎉🎉
Great video, hope u will go back and do some more travel around Belfast and to Derry. Always enjoyable viewing G.
Thanks, I tried to fit as much as I could in coz wasn't there for too long
Welcome to NI, G! Good to see you here. Bangor Marina is nice enough but unfortunately the town is very run down a tthe moment. Enjoy anyway!
Ah it was lovely! 😀
brilliant vlog Bangor looks like a lovely place to visit in N Ireland & the N Railways train looks amazing
Thanks!
Excellent thanks, the family enjoyed so much.
Thanks very much!
Never been to northern Ireland or on a plane so this vlog G is very interesting ❤
That was me not so long ago haha
Great video, G! That was a cheap flight!
Wow, the interior of that train is very similar to the Class 333's!
Cheers Reece! These trains were great to ride!
"Didn't you have a loverly time the day you went to Bangor"....
I was looking to see if anyone else had the same thought :P It'll have cost more than "under a pound, you know" 🤣
@@thhseeking ..and you can rest assured there won't have been any cuddling with Jack...🤣
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne 🤣
I also know a song about Bangor, not that one, and not for polite company...the chorus is easy though........
Hi G, please you enjoyed yourself, another to do for my bucket list possibly...🙂
Take care,
Jon B.
Haha yes add this one on there too 😀
I have to say you being britain to life with such style charisma knowledge and fun
Thanks John 😀
These planes are creeping into the channel, flying by yourself too, “G loves planes” is coming!, went to Bangor last summer cracking place especially if the sun is shining, great video as always 🛫😊
Such a lovely place! And ye lol the planes are coming 😂
Always enjoy watching your videos. Best wishes Jon and Hollie
Thanks Jon and Hollie!
Feel as though I was in the plane landing well done 👍👍✅✅
Haha thanks 😀
Well done G, second trip over water in just a few months! Hope you enjoy NI.
Thanks I had a blast!
Thanks for coming to the lovely NI. I hope someday you get to try one of the most scenic rail journeys between Castlerock and Bellarena, to L' Derry.
Maybe another time i will 😀
Congratulations on your first solo flight ! Great video . Thank you.
Thanks a lot!
Greetings from Dublin Ireland
Greetings Dublin!
I think you’re spot on! It is an ATR-72! Been on one once. An SAS one from BMA to CPH. Congrats to your first solo flight as a passenger. Will be taking the hop from here to Gatwick in a few weeks
Phew! Thanks a lot 👍
Brilliant! Spent my youth holidaying in Bangor.
Happy memories ❤️
Loved it thanks!
Fab! 😀
Now on to Bangor Maine here in the US.
Oo that's a thought!
Great video as usual G! You should do one of those holiday TV shows, you're a natural!
Thanks! (You wanna see the outtakes 😂)
@@GLovesTrains You should do an outtake video!
Congratulations on travelling alone. Let's hope this is the first of many in the next era of "G loving" 👍
From G Spots Trains to G Loving 😂
Shame the weather wasn’t a bit brighter. Still you always seem to thoroughly enjoy yourself. Spain, Northern Ireland- what’s next? 😂Well done G.
The weather was actually quite nice ya know!
Brilliant video G, you were very brave to get a plane by yourself. I've never been to Northern Ireland or the rest of Ireland but I would love to go sometime. Those are some rather strange train tickets you managed to get for the train to Bangor lol.
Thanks and ye lol I bought the rest as paper ones 😂
Looks like a really interesting trip, and not that expensive either. Great video! 👍
It was worth it!
Very interesting, especially to see the NIR train. It's a shame you did not see and film the walled garden.
Maybe one day in the future, if ever HS3 is built, there will be an extension from Merseyside to Belfast (via Douglas).
I've only been to N. Ireland once (Belfast) and flew on my own.
Thanks! Yeah I didn't have time the next day to pop in either unfortunately 🥲
Fabulous G - great video and music.
Thanks!
Great video of a place I'm very familiar with. Your other video to the north coast of NI was excellent too. I liked your presenting style. Reminded me of a Blue Peter presenter back in the day !
Haha cheers! 😀
That approach to Belfast City brings back memories - I had a great time visiting NI a few years ago and I really would like to go back. And the railways over there look pretty decent, I have to say.
They really are! Didn't see a single delayed or cancelled train as well 😂
@@GLovesTrains Well, maybe NI Railways need to tell us what their secret is!
Great trip..well done you. Loved the film.
Thanks!
Always look forward to your videos coming out G. I wonder if there is any more Bangor videos?
Sure there will be!
Great vlog G. I should visit Northern Ireland one day it’s the only country in the UK I haven’t visited.
Congratulations on your first solo flight! There are plenty of people out there who wouldn't have the guts to do that, especially when landing into a place on the other side that they've never been to! Props to you! (pun totally intended!)
Haha propeller to me 😂
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Thanks
Thanks!
Enjoyed bangor video, very imformative advising fares etc ,lovely gardens and castle
Thanks very much!
More of Banga would be top hole G. I love your expeditions.
Thanks!
Lovely video G, looks like you had a great trip. Will have to try and pop across to Bangor when I'm over in NI visiting the in-laws later in the year, it looks like a lovely place!
Oh yes id recommend!
I was born in Bangor and lived not far from.the station. In those days it was a thriving seaside town with holiday makers, many from Scotland during the summer months as well as day excursions from.around NI.
Today, all of that buzz is gone. The council laid waste to the beachfront to build a car park and the marina. The local sea front shops and arcades are now a wasteland. Laughably, this small dying seaside town has been designated a city.
You chose well with Castle Park and heading out of Bangor on the coastal path.
Well done for visiting, but I wouldnt want to encourage anyone to hop on a plane to visit Bangor.
Come back again and hop on a train along the scenic North Coast. Much better option.
Shame to hear about that! There are still some lovely spots there tho 😀
When in Northern Ireland, you should visit Carrickfergus Castle.
Great video, great channel, glad I‘ve subscribed! Nice one!
Thanks a lot!
Shame you didn't get better weather. There are amazing sunsets from that coastal path that would rival anywhere in the world. I love living here.
I thought it was lovely weather 😆
what a great vlog G
Thanks!
I’m glad you had good weather, it rains here in Northern Ireland a lot.
Aw ye I chose good days for weather
Welcome to NI
Cheers 😀
I saw 'Grand Central' at the beginning and thought you were in Belfast already! (That said, Belfast Grand Central doesn't open for another few months.)
Haha ye not that one yet 😂
Great video. Love your UA-cam videos
Thanks a lot!
Great video G!
Cheers!
Looks like you had fun G.
Proud of you G great vid 😊
Cheers!
There is a shorter flight to Belfast and when I worked in Northern Ireland A friend would take that one which ran between Belfast and Liverpool
Ah right not sure i came across that one
Dont be so worried about travelling alone, you have a very big personality that will get you through everything(Though the nights round our bit can be a bit rough, rotties go round in pairs on our estate and police are always stationed at the end of the road)Another excellent vlog!!! xxx
Thanks! And I dont have any worries travelling on my own, I have great fun by myself 👍
Just realised I hadn't subscribed to you... Rectified that! 👍🏻
Thanks a lot 👍
Please keep the videos coming GLovesTrains, I'm binge watching your content
Haha enjoy!
@@GLovesTrains Squishy baby lol
Hey G great video. Bangor is my hometown, hope you enjoyed it
Hi I loved it there!
Very interesting to go to NI!
So glad you enjoyed Bangor.try up the North Coast when you have the time.
My home town ❤ hope you enjoy your stay.
It's a city.
Thanks James!
@JonnyBlair-kf3qn yeah not really lol 😅😂
OMG! Welcome to n.Ireland! Great vlog. Were you happen to be over here for the closure of Great Victoria Street station?
Thanks Niamh! And it was already closed when I was there 😂
Its amazing that this plane journey is cheaper than some train trips going into London. It looks like a nice place you went, and well done for your 1st single plane journey 😊
I know right! Cheers 😀
Great vlog hope you had a nice time in Bangor
Thanks Ryan!
@@GLovesTrains Welcome
It's quite a distance to go for that...hope she appreciated and thanked you 😜
Good for you G! First went in 2007,Flybe from Doncaster Robin Hood on the plane you show in the montage. Flew low over the Aards Peninsula then curved around Ulster RUFCs Ravenhill Stadium for a landing at City Airport. Super easy having one single operator of public transport for trains, buses and coaches-Translink. Nice DMUs on the Bangor to Portadown Line though the not bieng allowed on the platform till the train was ready took me by suprise. Enterprise service is the best from Central station through to Newry,a good view of the Mourne Mountains on the way though the izone card doesnt cover the whole journey through to Dundalk,Drogheda & Dublin. Same DMU towards Ballymena with some spectacular coastal scenery heading into Derry. 😊
I was considering riding an enterprise train but decided to do that another time when I go into Ireland 👍
@@GLovesTrains one other thing i forgot to mention is the cliff face walk at Whitehead,a stop on the line to Carrickfergus & Larne. It was visited by Alice Roberts on the first series of the BBC's Coast Series,a Victorian attraction which had a couple of bridges forged into the rock. At the time of her visit the path bridges had been delapitated, but they have since been restored.
Great video G & nicely done! Love from us all in Northern Ireland lol Hopefully you come to my town of Antrim next 😂❤️ x
Cheers! Antrim... wheres that 😂
@@GLovesTrains it’s just outside Belfast lol nowhere too exciting 🤣 do you have an instagram page?
Love Bangor ❤
The beautiful city of Bangor is.
Really enjoyed your wee Video and you did our wee City proud. If your flying back from Belfast City again be sure to say hi to the gang in World Duty Free and maybe get to try a wee taster of Northern Ireland local Gin, whiskey or Vodka on your way to the departure lounge
Wee video.. that means something else to me haha! 😂 thanks a lot, I might have to say hi another time now as I already came back 👍
Great trip to Bangor! And at 3:50 there's a nice propeller shadow effect i've never seen. Probably only visible on camera and not in "real life".
Yeah the camera picked up the propeller very well 😀
You could try all the Bangor's although there's probably more; Northern Ireland,Wales, France and USA!
There's one in France too?!?!?
I backpacked BOTH Bangors in Tasmania, Australia 🇦🇺
It's on an island off Brittany.
Nice video G. Good shot at 4:23 with the lighting and the effect of the propellor. Brave choice choosing a seat next to the engine on a turbo-prop plane, I would imagine that was noisy!
Haha wasn't too noisy I dont think 😂
Well done gloves
Cheers!
Great multi transport vlog as always and no knicker hooks on the trains for you ? 😀
Cant remember if there were any tbh 😂
Hope you went to the Transport Museum at Cultra on you way back from Bangor.
Dam it.. wish I had of known you where coming over I would have met up with you. Bangor when I was young was The place to go for a seaside holiday and every year the Sunday School excursion was the highlight of the year. Just a one day trip but we where pretty poor so we where glad to just get that.. mother would make sandwiches for us, egg and onion plus ham and a bottle of brown lemonade and from my the station we would walk about a mile to our favourite beach called Ballyhome. There we would play in the sand and gorge ourselves on the sandwiches, then back to the train for theride home. Bangor itself has suffered an economic down turn so not all the shops are now open it’s lost that premier feeling it once had.
Anyway I hope you enjoyed your trip, everyone you met where pleasant and helpful and you had a good nights sleep in your hotel xx
Thanks ye everyone was friendly and helpful during my time there 😀
Well one of the best train trips with. Very scenic views is from Colraine to Londonderry/Derry .. you get the connecting trip from Belfast to Colraine which is not that scenic but worth it too get to the Colraine to Derry/Londonderry
Now I strongly suggest you have me along with you xx
There's a new integrated transport hub opening in Belfast at the end of this year. You may find it interesting.
Certainly would 👍
Good vid, looks like a cute place. You should try Amsterdam for a few days. A unique city and most of them speak English so it'll be quite a straight forward visit.
Certainly plan to! 😀
Hopefully on your next visit you can take the Enterprise to Dublin Connolly or you can go SailRail from Manchester to Dublin via Chester/Crewe or Lladnuo and Holyhead on Irish Ferries - on all Irish Ferries sailings, I highly recommend paying the bit extra for the Club Class Lounge, especially on the Ulysses Cruise Ferry - however, I don’t recommend the Dublin Swift Fast Ferry, as the ride is too rough, even in calm seas and the Dublin Swift is more likely to get cancelled in rough weather 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪❤️
I plan to do the enterprise in the future when I visit Ireland 😀
Wow, that was fun, cool airplane De Havilland? When is the sun coming out 😮 🤔😃 Greetings GLoves 😊🙏
ATR, not a Dash 8.
Greetings!
@@chrisamies2141 ATR.. Of course, Franco Italian aircraft... If I'm not "more" wrong... 😅
@@GLovesTrains Greetings as well, take care 😊🙏
Now you need to complete the set by going to Bangor, Maine. 😃
I do dont I! 😂
I must admit that I didn’t think that there would be much in the way of train journey in this as there is only one line in Northern Ireland I believe with about 6 or so stations between Belfast and Derry. A journey that takes at best 90 minutes by car so shorter by train. I have never done that as I go to see my daughter and she drives me.
Sure there's a couple of lines there 😀
Welcome to my home town Birmingham.
Thanks 👍
Would love to go to Northern Ireland. Great price for a plane journey (I’ve only flown once on my own - it’s nerve wracking isn’t it?)
Ye it is with all the changing noises of the plane 😂
Another great option for Belfast is the night ferry from Liverpool (well, Birkenhead) to Belfast. Decent times, good ship and cheaper than many a hotel in Belfast. I quite like NIRailways, they're fairly frequent, cheap and have rather modern rolling stock. Just too bad that most of the railways in Northern Ireland, especially West of the river Bann, were scrapped, Armagh, Dungannon, Omagh... could definitely use train.
Yeah I saw those hotel prices in Belfast... geez 😂
@@GLovesTrains honestly, I got lucky. I arrived in the morning, checked Booking, saw a reasonably priced hotel near St Anne's Cathedral, walked there, asked if they did walk-ins at the same price as Booking, left my luggage and off I went. It was January, though, probably the least amount of tourists anywhere.
There's a video you could do lol Bangor Wales to Bangor You visited or the other way around
Yes to Holyhead, ferry to Dublin then trains 😂
