Charybdis feels like a chore. Can't reroll the door so I'm already less than positive. One too many invulnerability phases that make you wait before the orbs are fired and wait some more for the tentacles to spawn. Running back and forth to find the tentacles not sure if you're at the wrong spot or if they're yet to spawn. Honestly, these are barely issues at all but when everything else is so cool this feels like a rainy 6AM Monday commute.
Usually for Charybdis I stick to the right corner... And it mostly works, I don't really run around. Also Omega cast always works on Charybdis because the tentacles are not mobile and are just there to take it. I just tried the Persephone Skull and Charybdis was relatively easy. I usually have a harder time with Eris though.
I'm not sure if this changed with the most recent patch, but the stupid exploding orbs used to operate on a timer, so if you had anything that slowed projectiles by 40% or more they would expire before they even reached the deck. Makes the fight so much better lmao
15:46 its interesting that hera's core boons except for the cast and the sprint are actually great, but all her secondary boons are imo fairly rubbish, while hephaestus's core boons except for the cast and the sprint are very situational and ill-suited for taking if you just randomly run into him, but his secondary QOL stuff is the best in the game, especially trusty shield which by just existing can mostly negate a whopping 8 heat (vow of suffering and scars), mint condition, etc.
Hephaestus is also really good when paired with a glass cannon setup i.e. Artemis keepsake and strength arcana. Boons like heavy metal, trusty shield and mint condition allow you to stay at low health without any risk of dying. It just becomes all cannon no glass lol. It's super fun
@malikhittam1440 that's also true, I really feel hephaestus is kinda underrated rn and maybe if they tweaked his attack/special boons he'd actually be way more popular
@@theformation3781 I think part of it also just how boon selection works - he's a god you want to find mid-run not early, since it's his secondary boons that are so useful and the primary ones tend to be prioritized in earlier chambers. I find his boons super useful, but rarely bring his keepsake because it tends to do more harm than good in Erebus (higher likelyhood of attack/spec) and by the time I hit Fields of Mourning there's other combat keepsakes like White Antler that are more useful for late-game, so its Oceanus or bust more often than not. So while he's really good at supporting builds, the timing of actually getting him in there effectively can be really awkward and inconvenient, which I think turns a lot of people off of him. He's more palatable as a mid-run surprise addition to the pool than something to plan and build around from the start.
@ashec.6824 I agree with the boon selection part a lot, coz yes it's true you can't do erebus or fields with hephie keepsake for exactly the reasons you've described, but I think putting on adamant shard for oceanus is almost necessary for a very particular vow setup (full scars and suffering) because trusty shield, and to an extent mint condition, almost completely negate those vow for a total of 8 fear becoming pretty inconsequential. Now i only speak from personal experience but I've cleared 32 fear with a lot of weapons now (all axes, torches, two staves and knives, and mel skull) and putting on zone 2 for hephaestus has always without fail proven to be an excellent decision just because trusty shield both negates the first hit penalty and gives you a buffer to tank some damage when you can't heal (and you can manipulate your first hits in a lot of encounters too). Now I also run moros zone 2 if things are looking particularly dire coming out of erebus and then it's just moros till the end, but if I know I will be able to hold out till I get hephie then the rest of the run becomes significantly easier
The saving grace of the Phase Shift Hex against Chronus is that you can get the Path of Stars upgrade that gives you a shitton of attack speed while using it. Still not the best thing in the world, but at least it doesn't become completely useless.
Day 1 of asking for this super niche build: I'm a long-time lurker and fan and I just got this sweet build after several tries. It centers around Poseidon cast with the dark side hex and the Momus aspect. There's a path of stars upgrade for dark side that allows your normal cast to be treated as your omega cast. With Poseidon cast this means your normal cast detonates instantly, allowing you to cast again. Basically it just chains Poseidon cast damage over and over while taking no damage. Where this gets craaaazy is with new Momus. While normally I've noticed Momus only allows for one of the red orbs that repeat the omega move per type of omega move (one for cast, attack, and special), while dark side is active, there is no limit to the number of repeating casts. So basically repeating geyser nuke. Would love if you could make a video on it!! Some of the most insane damage I've done.
once the full game is out you can get the most outrageous surface run ever: (aside from the obvious omega move buffs:) hammer that makes the omega specials return back to you, hammer that makes retrieving your skulls do a free omega attack, hera special, apollo attack & then to be completely broken meet icarus & get the buff that makes your omega moves do 50 damage explosions each hit
I think Charybdis bothered me the first time and then never again after that, maybe having a grab AOE/attack like the tree boss in Erebus so you have something to do and attack rather than the invulnerability
The skull is easily my favourite weapon so far because it's not really a weapon per se at all, but it still has the theming; it's something a sorceress would still logically be able to weild power with. It feels like this games parralell to the Adament Rail in tha tit's an off the wall pick that doesn't fit in with any of the others.
While this is good, I feel like this isn't even close to being as good as Mel skull + possessed array + aphro attack. Can you try out that hammer with mel skull when you get the chance? It was my first 32 heat clear, and with 0 defiances lost to Chronos.
@@malikhittam1440 Possesed array makes it so that when you pick up your skulls they explode with the damage and area of an omega attack for free, Aphrodite’s attack is especially effective with this, since any enemies hit by the skull explosion are in the range where it will get the damage bonus.
@@malikhittam1440 What flix said. If you somehow manage Apollo's legendary on top of everything, I think that run might have a chance at being the world record speedrun on current patch.
I wish for weapons that have some kind of meter like persephone, thanatos and Artemis they had some sort of visual effect on mel or the weapon itself to signify how filled the meter is.
Wolf Howl for best Hex now that Moon Water got gutted, it covers for having only one dash, it’s super easy to charge, and you can easily make it give you insane uptime on Impervious
I feel like Poseidon on the cast should be good, since it bursts immediately, you can spam it and charge the special super fast. Will try it myself soon.
@@dodang_9147 I know but in Apollo's case you have to wait the duration of the cast out before it explodes, and Zeus charges it one enemy at a time. I actually just tried Poseidon and you could fill the Special in a single cast with 3 or 4 enemies. Even in boss fights it takes only 2 or 3 casts to fill it out.
I'm curious how the Hestia cast boon would work on this build. If it builds up the meter for each tick of scorch I would think it would max the meter almost instantly.
Charybdis fight is way too easy to asnwer your question @20:25. I have way more trouble not losing too much hp in the Polyphemus fight. I hope they update the whole Charybdis fight

Did they change something about vow of forsaking besides making legendaries/duos less likely? I had a run where after a while every boon just kept giving me 3x sacrifice options, so my build was completely ruined in the end. I don't remember it doing that before, this was awful :| Or maybe it's because of the 4th god, so now there's too many of them competing for the main boon slots.
Biggest takeaway from this vid. They moved the drop and run for lunar beam from blue to purple. Why? It was the only thing that made it any good. Should have gone the other way and made it default. Then change it up and make one of the upgrades that you cast it, it auto targets and it makes you invulnerable while casting. Or make it so you cast it and can aim it and it does a +200% more damage. Risk vs reward. Make another that it just auto targets. I want it to be good. It "could" be good before if you upgraded it a lot and got the triple beam plus drop and run. Now it's worse and needs work. A lot of work.
