Maybe I am just a big geek but I was enthralled end to end.

That's a very similar setup to what I used when I worked in the motor trade supplying trade and retail some years ago. Making rear ones for Jaguar S-Type / X-Type, Rover 75, Range Rover, Aston Martin, and such like were bit of pain due to the custom shape and size. Good tip if you want to reduce or eliminate the small missed spots where the thermal ribbon doesn't print properly. Use a tack cloth to wipe the reflective material before loading in to the printer. It's same principle body shops use before applying new paint.
The law in the UK regarding off-road / show plates changed in November 2008 (DVLA refer to them as non-compliant number plates). If I recall correctly it used to be an offence to display altered or incorrectly spaced number plates if used on a public road, but you could supply them - i.e the onus was on the driver. It's also now an offence to even manufacture and sell them, if it contains a vehicle registration mark.

    Interesting.
I painted my first 'INDEX MARK' (as they are called in police jargon) onto the front wing of a black Triumph Mayflower using white paint, life was so much easier, it was an old 20 pound car.

Exactly the answer I was looking for. Thank you. Very useful video. Do you have sheets with black background and white letterings, with the green color patch of course? It’s not for the UK use 😅

No. The printer doesn't print in white ink! :-)

I don't think GB plates are legal in Europe now. I heard that they must show UK. (due to NI situation with EU)

30 years ago you could walk into most motor factors and they'd make you a plate like this no questions asked! I'm guessing all the regulations these days are to combat the very obvious abuse that probably lead to.

Correct. It still goes on though. Some try to get around the rules by making plates for "off road use only".

Whats the best way to cut the lip? Someone made me plates that have lip but it doesnt fit in my plate holders and i dont want to mount them directly onto the car.

If you have plastic plate holders, then you'll probably find an acrylic plate is too thick to slide into it anyway, even without the lip. Most plate holders are for aluminium plates only.
You'd have to cut the lip off with a hacksaw and then file the edge smooth again. Probably easier to just get some new plates made up.

@@GoGreenAutos it already have acrylic that fit perfect in the plastic holders. The ones with lip were made for free by the dealership. I was thinking to use jigsaw with fine blade and hopefully it wont crack 😂. Just trying to save some money lol. Thank you for your reply.

@@CiscoMKD It wont crack. They are quite forgiving. Cut so the backing is pressing into the plate, not being pulled apart.

So many skills at your finger tips.
My new " GoGreen" green stripe plates look terrific.
I was worried they might look like virtue signalling but the good old British public seem as indifferent as ever bless 'em!

Thanks, I learned something today. I have an Ev and just bought some green stickers on ebay to put on mine, yes it is virtual signalling, look at me, I am electric, but I still think it is useful to encourage adoption.

It never ceases to amaze me how many illegal plates there are. The police clearly do not care but if you were to print a plate without ticking all the boxes I'm sure the DoT would issue you with a fine!

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Рік тому

The software does not allow me to print a plate without following the rules. I can however, print off-road plates, with different font, spacing, pictures etc, so you could make an illegal plate that way. But it is all logged.
