Step 2 worked perfectly. A half filled bathroom sink drained in 20 seconds originally and drained in 4 seconds after applying Step 2. Thanks.
Thanks! On Sunday morning I followed this video and successfully unclog the bathroom sink - my wife looked very happy!
The zip-tie trick was genius. Worked perfectly for fixing my issues. Thank you!
I'm so grateful for videos like this I put in a maintenance request almost a month ago for my clogged bathroom sink but they never came . I'm so glad I was able to do this myself and the clog was a nice wad of hair mostly and it was where the plug is #1 I went ahead and took the p-trap off anyway because I needed to clean the drain out. Thank you for creating this video. If I can do this anyone can!
Wow! Unscrewed the plunger ezpz... full of gunk... cleaned that... drains xlnt
! This is day 2 of trying to clear the drain and after your vid, it only took a couple minutes. You saved me a plumber's call. Thanks!
That is what we are here for 👍
Thank you so much for sharing this information! You saved me alot of time, energy, and money as I was just going to auger the whole drain pipe but all I needed to do was to clean out the sink drain! Keep up the great content!
Mostly, 90%, #2. Excellent video that sticks to the point and VERY well spoken. Thanks Scott.
thank you, because of this video I was able to help unclog my mom's sink : )
We are here to help 👍
Hey man thanks for this video, I got my sink cleaned up in a jiffy. One tip for anyone looking to do this, if you have the style of drain plug that you need to undo from under before you can take it out, I'd recommend that you leave a bucket underneath your sink while doing it to keep any looseness from letting water fall down.
Great video - thanks for posting it. You saved me a bit of money and time by checking the stopper first. Sure enough, that was the problem and luckily it all came out in one gross mass! As usual, UA-cam comes to the rescue!
Thank you so much. Just cleaned my two pop up drains and total success. Yay.
wow this is the best & simple explanation I've seen on UA-cam so far. Thank you!
I found the clog in the drain in the drain stopper mechanism. I unscrewed the top and got access to the clog. The lav drains water very well now. Thanks much!
You bet!
Great tips! I keep a Zip-It handy around the house for bathtub clogs where hair gathers, but I've also had a lot of success with a plunger for bathroom sinks. Typically the soap scum and slime gathers on the sides and at the bottom of the P trap. Using a plunger and a full sink of warm water will loosen and flush that junk down the drain in no time.
The second part of step 2 saved me having to call a plumber - thanks
Thanks so much! Your video is so informative and easy to follow. You helped me to unclog my bathroom sink with confidence! Thanks again!
Ewww, gross. I was so lucky that the second step cured the problem. Thank you for explaining all this so well. I’d been living with a slow-draining bathroom sink for weeks. So glad I found your video!
Thanks. My bathroom sink has a push-'plug' and a plunger wasn't effective in unblocking the very slow drain. I came upon this video by chance....and I fixed the problem in 5 minutes. I couldn't get the inner bit out (my Allen key was too small) but I could remove a lot of hair & gunk around & below it. Saved possibly A100 in plumber's fees .
Almost 10 mins to drain a half gallon of water to 18 seconds! Thanks a bunch!
This worked perfectly. Thank you so much!!! I’ve tried so many other things and nothing worked!
Love your videos. Like how you go in detail on your repairs
Thanks Snoop 🐶
Thanks for the tip. I've been trying to unclog that sink for some time now 😅I had no idea how to remove the pop up drain stop.
Tomorrow i will try the hot water method, i did try the plunger, it help a little
The first time I cleared a sink clog it was a several year old hair clump. I screamed so loud my wife came running in to see what the deals was.
How could you assess if it was several year old hair clump? 🧐
Why did you scream? It's hair.
I’m with Jonathan on the p trap replacement!!!! Screw that cleaning the gross old p trap!!! Lol not for me, but a new one! Great video on the cartridge cleaning and numerous tips! You’re more of a man than I when it comes to the gross steps!
Thank you as always!
why throw plastic away unecessarily like that?...we should be making as much use of it as possible instead of throwing everything out there to end up in the oceans etc...if it's not cracked, worn or leaking just take a few moments of your time to clean it out...I use disinfectant and a bottle brush...job done.
@@shesgottheskillsmine is made of stupid metal 😢
I have the type u shown second but I didn’t know how to take it out under the sink. Thank u sir for ur information. Especially to us widows.
Thank u so much, that's a problem I have, but haven't been able to get a plumber out here. You've helped me tremendously
Thanks for this...also wondered how those pop-ups worked! 👍
Thank you for this video. I have a popup drain and it was #3 for me. I was able to fix with the help of your video.
You are a life saver. I followed your video to the t and successfully. THANK YOU
Thank you very much; you showed me how to disassemble the drain stopper to get to the clog below it to the source of the clog. ( I have not tried this yet.)
Thank you for the video. I cleared my drain right up removing and cleaning the pop in stopper and cleaning it.
Wow! Thanks very much! I was trying to unclog a simple push-plug sink (without the little lift-rod thingy at the top) and this is the best 'how-to' online by far. So well-explained and easy to listen to/follow... even for me (I have no plumbing experience whatsoever!) Much appreciation! 🙂
Have you unclogged it?

Excellent video. Very informative. Thank you!
Good evening all, and thank you very much for this educational video. We love to see your products all the time.
Best regards
Thanks 👍
Very well explained. Thank you.
Always #2. But that means the stopper screen is doing it's job. Ever since I started using that style I have not had to remove a p trap. If I am installing new faucets, the p trap gets replaced, and a good push to close/open stopper (usually included with the faucet kits, for those who don't know).
Thanks for your time and posting great information!
"Always #2" only applies to toilet clog.
@@mironvulakh5859 🤣
Thank u so much this is the best video so helpful I unclogged my sink myself u got straight to the point
Good information. Much appreciated.
Thanks!! step #2 worked like a charm!!!!
Thanks for the help! Glad I didn’t have to ask my husband to help!!!
Excellent video especially in making your own hair snatcher tool from plastic ty-rap.
A bottle brush can be good for cleaning buildup out of sink-pipes, just as paper towels will work.
Great video. Very helpful.
Very helpful information, thanks.
Thank you. I did cleared the bathroom drain. Nasty job, but satisfying.👍🏽
Awesome video. P trap was my issue, solved in 15 min. Skipped step 1 with hot water bc sink wouldn’t even slowly drain.
Thank you for this video. Step 1 helped me.
Great video. Smart with the zip tie. I love it❤
The best DIY drain fighting tool I've ever used? A wet/dry vacuum.
When the tub-shower gets clogged with my female roommate's long black hair, I get my 3 HP Ridgid wet/dry vac, set it to "wet" configuration, run hot water in shower until about 1" of hot standing water is above drain, then shut off water and shove the wet/dry vac's round nozzle onto the drain and hold it tight to the round drain hole for 3 seconds.
Remove vac nozzle from drain hole, turn hot water on again for a minute, and check drain rate. Repeat process one or two more times until water is flowing freely, or until enough long hair has been pulled halfway up out of the drain that needle-nose pliers can remove the rest.
Dump filthy water from vac into gutter and then wash out inside of vac.
I will sometimes use a shop vac too
Do yourself a favor and get a hair strainer from the big box store. It'll be so much less work for you. I used to have to snake out my shower drain regularly for the same reason. I had a plumber in the house for a different job and mentioned the recurrent problem to him and he advised me to get a hair strainer. I didn't know they existed. Since I bought it years ago I've not snaked the drain since. They make all kinds, out of plastic. But they also sell a metallic assortment of 3 different sizes that are the best. The medium size fits perfectly in my walk-in shower floor drain and since I am the "plumber" I get to easily clean it before my shower. I don't mind the daily job when I think about the old way. The small one fits a sink if you were to take out the pop up drain plug and I use the large size upside down taped and sealed over the garden tub drain when I bathe (shower) our dog. If you have a regular tub with a shower just look around for something that fits. Good luck.
I found this most helpful. Thank you.
You bet!
Awesome and easy to understand thanks 🙏🏾
Good piece. I’d be interested in a video on getting rid of drain flies.
I wasted money on products like Draino max, to no avail. Simply removing the plunger so I could pull the drain stopper out and using a cut zip tie, I was able to get tons of hair that was stuck at the drain closer pivot point (the thing that opens and shuts the drain). The zip tie was a little flexible but I got enough hair close up that two screw drivers were able to pinch and pull the rest of the way.
I should have never wasted money on Draino because it did nothing. Hot water goes down in seconds vs minutes before the fix. Good tip, best of all it was free since I already had the wire tie and basic tools.
This is the best help video.
Thanks Scott. My last problem was worse. I did the three steps, no success. I then removed the gooseneck again, note auger did not work, so I used Turkey baster several days to drop vinegar and baking soda. Still no success. I then used Turkey baster to carefully put drain cleaner down wall pipe. Since I wanted to protect pipes, I swiftly put sink back together and flushed with water. It worked. Note, drain cleaner melted the top of my Turkey baster. Need to be careful with your hands to keep drain cleaner off.
Nice, thanks for the feedback and running through the process which broke yours loose 👍
Big help for me. Thanks
big help! big thanks! 🎉
Thank you for this great Video.
#2 ... always #2. Well done video! Thanks! 👍
Got my subscribe with that zip tie trick. I have a small snake with a bristle end which I always use - cheap at 2-3$ but the zip tie is a cool repurpose trick
You are SO good at teaching!
Thx!
He really is 🙂
Love your videos! Any chance you could add a segment about the tailpipe? I did not clean that out and it turned out to be the (embarrassing!) problem…
Very helpful. Thank you
#2. Thanks so much for this video . It was extremely helpful!
THANKS SCOTT….GREAT ADVICE…BEEN THERE…DONE THAT MANY TIMES 😂 a result of a wife with long hair 👩
So in my case …all three depending on how long it been…FYI you can install the pop up with out going through the whole…for more frequent cleaning 👍😍😍😍
Nice job on video!
Most helpful video!!
Thank you. This was very useful :)
Thanks this is helpful!
Yes, number 2, I have the old style drain pkug
Thank you so much! It worked!
Hi and many thanks for your valued info. On a side note, I don't have a blockage but I do have push type drain stoppers that keep getting stuck in the down position. All of the waste is always clean and I spray a little WD40 to try and keep them lubricated, but every couple of months they stick closed. I'm actually considering removeing and replacing them with the good old fashioned rubber ones, but not being chrome, they'll probably look rubbish. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Worked. Thanks. 👌
Awesome! Very helpful!!!❤
Thanks for the video unfortunately after doing all 3 steps my sink drain is still clogged. It was still good to learn about the 3 steps.
I duct tape overflow drain and lightly plunge sink drain, works everytime.
1. Was the help I needed. Thx.
Can you pour different types of soda soft drinks down the sink or will it damage the piping? The Common problem I have with my sink clogging the pipes is my tooth paste turns into a very hard cement which nothing seems to work at breaking up the harden tooth paste. Do you recommend using anything to break down and break up the old harden tooth paste that is sticking to the pipes?
#4……..The drain doesn’t go straight down (joist is in the way), I noticed this when the home was built 18 years ago. I cleaned the p trap, etc and it still drained slowly. Next step would be to auger the next 3 feet of pipe around the 22 degree fitting to pass the joist. Thanks for your video! Jim
PS……after the holidays…..
Amazing video
Great video!
Thanks!
I am at home that has no stopper installed someone installed abs p style but all glued there is no serviceable parts other than cut it all out. Hot water didn't change any time difference in draining. But at least it's not solid clog. I ran a 1/4 4ft snake and didn't run into anything so it's past the inside pipes. Would the lye be wise or call a plumber.
Thanks
In my experience it has been the down tube. I take a rag and tie a string to a corner and a weight (like a nut) to the other end of the string. I drop the weight through the down tube and pull the rag through.
I have the pop-up type with a screw cap which you can just unscrew the top and pick out the grunge to return the sink to proper drain performance in most cases without needing to disconnect the under sink pivot-rod connections.
Nice!
Wonderful, the screw out type. Same in the shower drain?
My older apartment sinks (and bathtubs) get hair clogs a few feet into the drain that I have to snake on a pretty regular basis. Any advice on how to keep hair out of the sink and tub (aside from the standard screw-on tub screen). Some of the bath sinks are back-to-back so the snake wants to run across to the other sink instead of into the wall and down the drain. I invented a little guide to tease the snake down where it belongs.
Very helpful! THX!
You bet!
Number 2 I s definitely the problem I face. Addition to what you used, I like to pour some white vinegar periodically. Thank you for sharing
Thanks Hassan, do you do the vinegar on your rentals as well between tenants?
@@EverydayHomeRepairs I only do it to my personal home because it is readily available. By the way I sold all my rentals a couple of months ago and I couldn’t resist the the demands on housing. None of them appraised to the price I ask but my wife was the listing agent and she put a clause in the contract that the buyer cover the difference and it worked perfectly. I was blessed with the purchase and sold. I will do it again if the market suit the situation. I really appreciate your videos
My plumber advised me to pour in about 1/4 cup bleach into my tub and sink about once per month. This seems to work, but I think this video is perfect for those of us that don't have plumbing tools.
Keep it up, nice video clip, thank you for sharing it :)
Thanks!
Excellent
Thanks!
Thanks for the support 🙌
very helpful
Thanks #2 for me😁
You video is very helpful but I think I need that “cheap udder”. Where can I get it?
Use a bottle brush to clean your p-trap once in a while. Works great.
I never heard that until doing this video and several people had now mentioned the bottle brushes work great. Appreciate the tip 👍
Thank you soooo much!
I didn't see the link anywhere for the auger.. can you provide that link? Looks like I'll need that...all 3 steps showed no clog.
4:48 I use the cable tie method, for hair clog, and bacteria clog it works very well, just stick in and stir the pot!!
8/5/23 I messed up. I have a pivot rod type drain stopper. The stopper was in and I thought I could get the plastic orange snake in between the holes in the drain stopper. I got it all the way down but it is STUCK. I tried using a wrench to unscrew the nut to where the pivot arm is but it is on so tight from the plumber. I cannot unscrew it. I hoped I could unscrew it, release the pivot arm and the drain stopper (with the plastic snake) would be released. I hoped I could pull up both the stopper and the orange snake. Now, I think I have to have the plumber come. My landlady uses one of those roter rooter services. I would prefer the push up stopper like I had before. It was easy to remove and all I did was use the snake. I hope I did not break anything. Can a push up stopper be put in instead?
