Smith told us in lecture one time that Peyton gave the best presentation in class a student of his ever has. Richard Grace that’s quite the shallow thought pattern. You were fortunate enough to watch the era with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Peyton Manning was pretty much built to be a quarterback. He had the genes and god given talent to become one of the best. Tom Brady is a case of someone having a massive chip on their shoulder. That’s why he was such a student of the game. Tom probably studied the game just as much or more than Peyton because he wasn’t gifted like him.
Nevertheless, those two are special cases. Even then, it took Tom a few more years to even be a field general. Besides them, no one picks up the game that fast at QB where they know when to check out of plays. It normally takes at least 5 years before a QB steps up from being a game manager to field general.
You talk as if current QBs won’t ever read defenses while disregarding the fact that most of the QBs playing now are young. Of course they can’t all read defenses yet.
You also skipped over the fact defenses were a lot easier to read in the past, mainly because defenses were geared towards the run game. Today’s defenses are way more complex because the passing game has developed so much

*If you also read my comment, you would know my comment was from two months ago lol. The 2020 NFL season hadn't start yet and I was basing my list off from the 2019 season. Just freestyling so of course I left QB's off who are performing better than him this year than last season. He played well last season to say he didn't have most of his WR's fully healthy*

The Colt's were tough to defend as they ran with 3 WR, 1 TE & 1 RB most of the time which puts their best playmakers out there on the field. They passed/ran, threw screens & ran the 2 minute drill from that formation. That kept the defense out of their base and had to put a nickel DB on the field all the time.

I promise you, I really can't say I never liked Mr. Manning but when he won his last ship before retiring... I STILL believe that game was a gift to his retirement. This vid was great for me, knowing he was actually a really cool, fair dude.

@vicalamuso3427 Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are the only two QBs in NFL history to hold the single-season passing TD record for multiple franchises.
Brady: 50 TD (2007) with Patriots & 43 TD (2021) with the Bucs.
Manning: 55 TD (2013) with Broncos & 49 TD (2004) with the Colts.
Brady & Manning are the only 2 QBs at 80+% making the playoffs w/ at least a decade plus starting.
Mahomes more than likely will join them but it's just those 3.

@@ethanproctor363 Teams win rings. The Patriots have the highest average DVOA through the 2 decades Bill has been running the team. Defenses win championships time and time again. You could plug in various HOF QBs to the Patriots, give them Randy Moss, Gronk, Welker, and a system that turns scrubs into serviceable role players. Theyd win just as many rings together.

You gotta love Peyton, but the early parts of this really make you love Archie as well.
Such a good dad, and he always seemed like such a down to earth guy. Football aside, he and his wife did a great job with his kids. No doubt in my mind all of them would have been successful in whatever path they chose in their lives.
Secondly, that underhanded Uncle Rico ball he threw, could be the greatest pass of all time. Dude, hes running to his right, throwing UNDERHANDED, and its a perfect spiral on what was pretty good coverage lol. Archie was a hell of a QB, and if he was playing today, he would have put up some nasty numbers.

20:40. Of all of the touchdowns he’s thrown, I really enjoyed his description of this one being one of his favorites. Throwing the ball to his receivers right as the receiver is juking to the left and still hasn’t looked back, then breaks back to the right. Breaks the DBs ankles. Perfect timing and location on the throw. Good stuff.

The true reason right there why some of us love the game of football!!! 🏈 It’s about that time boys n girls! 2024 NFL season will end with the ______ winning the 🏆 in New Orleans , LA @ the historic SUPERDOME & where Archie played.
