Imagine if Shanahan coach Broncos from the start of Elway career ... ❤️
Superbowl wins
Actually I think he was brought along pretty well without Mike Shanahan although I suppose there might have been more impressive passing numbers I think Elway played well.
He would have been up there with Marino as far as stats go. Probably would have another super bowl too
Unless Terrell Davis was the RB Elway would of won two rings.
Dynasty
Raiders fan here but gotta admit Elway is a legend
John will always be one of the greatest QB's of all time and got his rewards in the end. You know he loved the game so much when he was tearing up at the podium. God bless you John
El 7 Magnífico John Elway. Saludos desde Veracruz, México.
As a kid growing up in Denver I can still remember my dad and uncles yelling "lets go johnny boy "
I would alway think they were yelling for me but no they were cheering for Elway ,a great memory that will stick with me for life .thanks John for the great memories.
My mom used to say " go sammy go sammy go!!" For sammy winder haha
The day we finally won the SB is one of the greatest days of my life. I know it sounds silly, but Elway was my hero and his finally winning was the greatest come back story you could ask for.
@@BrandonToy Couldn't agree more, what a great feeling it was
@@BrandonToyI always thought it was interesting how his whole career, Elway had to CARRY the broncos. He couldn't do it by himself against Lawrence Taylor, against Joe Montana. But at the end, the broncos got him help. Unc, TD, rod Smith, Ed mccaffrey. He wasn't the QB he was in his prime, but man, I wouldn't want to have to have played defense against TD behind a Shanahan run scheme
young john looks like luke skywalker to me.
You mean Luke Skywalker looks like a young John Elway
.
Yeah then he became the master now he teaches young padawan’s lol
yeah but he becomes emperor Palpatine and Tim Tebow actually becomes Luke.
He looks like a member of the Kennedy family w/ a bulkier frame haha
Right
The helicopter play will always be my favorite play ever. I screamed, I cried, I flipped a table of snacks. That 1st down was the definition of John Elway.
I would like this but it has 7 likes :)
That play was probably the best play I'll ever see.
After depressing Super Bowl losses, at that point in the game, after that play, it set a tone for all of the other Bronco players. No let down for John.
Watching that play live, I thought there was no way he was getting up. I was a Cowboys fan but at that moment, I also became an Elway fan. What a great documentary, thanks for the up.
Brandon Terry, That helicopter play is what changed my opinion of John Elway. Prior to that, I was quite the hater with little respect even though he went to 3 Super Bowls. It wasn't his Super Bowl losses that caused the hate, it was his whiny attitude. The helicopter play showed me a completely different man. Much respect gained. That play gives me the chills.
I'm a Niners guy through and through. But my Parents lived in Denver for a season when I was around 2 years old. They had season tickets. My mom fell in love with the Bronco's. And Elway being a Stanford guy, we always rooted for him. It warmed my heart to see Elway get back to back Super Bowls at the end of his career. Loved watching him play. Steve Young is still my all time favorite, sorry John.
Raiders / Broncos games are still fun in the family house. My mom (Broncos) and my younger brother (Raiders) go at it while we are all stuffing out faces. Pure joy!
Elway was one of those greats that you just freakin' hated throughout his career, but you knew towards the end that you wanted or needed to see him head out of the league with at least one Super Bowl ring. You rooted for him and you were happy to see him finally reach the mountain. #Respect
Elway was a player like no other , He carried teams by himself ... ELWAY G.O.A.T
This guy is a born leader. You can tell that whatever vocation he chose in life if it wan't football, he would have excelled.
When the football gods were handing out arms, they gave Elway howitzer ! Those throws that covered nearly the length of the football were simply amazing !
I was on Drill Team at Granada Hills High School when John Elway was our Quarterback. I had the great joy of watching every game, and it was the same thing over and over again: last couple of minutes of the game, John would make this unbelievable pass, and we would win the game, often in the last seconds. It was exhilarating. I'm so happy to see some of the old footage of those games. John was a star even in High School because they started to broadcast those High School games, if I recall correctly, on PBS. And, by the way, John was a super nice guy, as was Chris Sutton. Well mannered, very good people.
Did you sit on his face?
Man he had a cannon even in high school. Amazing
Seriously, threw the ball 60yards easily. Come on!
Wow what an arm
I view John, and Josh Allen as tied for the strongest qb arms ever
@@legitbowler9877 Marino, Favre and Jeff George are certainly in his league

26.5 years later and I still cry. This One's For John. God, what an unbelievably wonderful day...January 25, 1998. #elwayorthehighway
A natural pretty motion with a rocket and accurate arm .... this was a fantastic video
I was born in 82 and grew up watching the Broncos. So cool that I got to watch Elway and Manning play for the team I followed and win super bowls.
John, you were so fun, so.excting, thanks for giving us your heart out there. It's TRUE there will never be another 7. We love you.
Guy was a gamer. 1983 - great QB draft class.
Coming back to this because as a Broncos fan, this is the only way to smile at Denver football at the moment...
Elway was a straight gunslinger ! Respect 💯💯💯💯💯💯
Holy Moly! The strength of Johns arm in high school. Wow!
The play where Seattle blitzes Elway, he ducks the blitzer, and then throws a 60 yard dart to Shannon Sharpe. Only Elway pulls that off! Greatest Quarterback Ever!
I grew up a Broncos fan in Manti, Utah. Elway, one of my first sports heroes, obviously.
This man was a champion at heart! Much respect
I was born a month before Elway officially retired and yet, somehow, he's forever a hero in my eyes
The Duke of Denver such a great part of colorado. My sister was able to get my Michel and ness throwback Jersey signed by Him during training camp. He saw that it was an older jersey and signed it.
I'm crying as the kid I was, once again.
Life long Dallas fan , but I respected and loved mr. Elway
Elway had an absolute cannon for an arm. Miss seeing that.
His stats stink overrated
@@andrecee6490 Okay buddy ig hall of farmers are overrated now?
@@TCT349 Look at his stats. Not impressive in the slightest. Turnover machine. A lot of today’s QB I’ll take over him and previous
@@andrecee6490 Unwarranted comment but ok. What ever makes you feel good. He still had a cannon of an arm.
My football hero.
Those days are gone forever, look at what the NFL has turned into. I’d been watching and cheering for the Broncos since I was a kid in the 60’s, one of the biggest football fans ever. I don’t watch football anymore I haven’t for 4 years since the kneeling started and I’ll never watch again but I’ll remember all the great games I did watch
ELWAY WAS THE REAL DEAL
Elway is the greatest QB of all time!!!!
John Elway was an athletic Freak! That cannon arm was gifted from God.
He had a great dad
I was at the game when his number was retired. Literally sitting in the highest possible row. Boring game, getting beat at home by Miami. But when he was introduced at halftime it was an ovation like I've never seen before or since.
I'm a Packer fan, born here. Green and Gold in my blood. We've been forever graced with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, two of the greatest to ever play.
John Elway is the greatest QB that I've ever seen. No one has had the physical tools that he did. Greatest combination of arm strength, running ability, and accuracy that the game has ever seen.
your Forgetting ,Bart Starr ?? HMmm in Packers History I always find it hard to Believe .. You've Had 3 All-timers there ,but I'd Rate Starr over Rodgers if i were a packers fan...
I agree.
You never watched Marino throw a football
@@christinagarner8856 Elway was just better. He had all the tools. That's why he took his teams to 5! Super Bowls!! 3 of them through his will and talent alone. Elway was the Greatest. Marino can pass, Montana can pass, Brady can pass- but they could never do what Elway did.
@@jamessanders6788 You are nuts Elway had plenty of talent around him and the reason they went to 5 super bowls winning 2, Marino played with 1 Hall of famer in his career and that was Dwight Stephenson who he played with for 1 season. He played on teams with historically bad defenses and had no running game to work with. Don Shula said his biggest regret in coaching was not putting more talent around Marino because he knows they would have won multiple Super Bowls if he had. Dan Marino is best pure passer to ever play the game period.
He made me love the broncos
John was fun to watch
Best arm I've ever seen, Marino may have been a better pure passer, but no one had Elway's cannon.
What a champion John Elway was, it was an absolute pleasure to watch him play
He retired too soon. He still had a couple more good years left in him. But I don't blame him for wanting to go out on top. He's a legend.
He was out 3 games in his last season with injuries after only missing 6 in 15 years before that. I think he left at the right time - glad he got to go out on top.
Elway has always been in my holy trinity of NFL qbs. Elway, Montana and Peyton Manning. Indisputable.
This was my favorite QB and my second team after my Bears. Great career and those last 2 years unforgettable. Salutes for the #7 Denver Broncos, John Elway!!!
the greatest ever. I'm a Redskins fan
Brady says hi.
@@TheJratz7 Elway could run out of the pocket....stronger arm...plus the league was tougher..late hits etc

insane that elway has highschool film you can watch
Does anybody notice how easy and far he throws the football like god dam!
Ghostron At 1:10 he throws it 80 yards. At 1:47 he throws it 90.
I have followed him forever as I live in Colorado but grew up in the PNW and went to the Udub so I watched him back then. I had not seen much high school footage however, and what he did in HS was amazing. The same scrambling reverse field moves and then the rocket throws.
@@lzv6990 The first throw isn't even 50 yards, count the 10 yard gaps on the field ... there's 4 of them. You're really an idiot if you thought a man could throw 80 yards without setting his feet.
@Ghostron like Mahomes.
And so young!
Legendary the best in Broncos country ever we will love and respect you forever!
Cowboys fan for 40 years and hes my fav player of all time
My opinion he is the greatest quarterback to ever play
All John Elway needed was a good team around and he won. This is why people bashing dan marino are stupid.
The Elway Bronco years were the part of the happiest years of my life, thank you #7. Also, I clearly remember watching Elway warming up before the SF 49 SB. What I will never forget is I could see behind the face mask, John looked absolutely scared. Only time EVER I saw that look from him. The Duke Of Denver forever.
My Hero forever
One of the Greatest to play the game.
John Elway...your the man...
Thanks for the memories..
One of the true greats in football !!!!
Those long passes looked unreal back then, haven't seen anything like it since. Glad to have seen him live at the Mile High Stadium.
Legend.
The GOAT. The most complete QB to play in the NFL.
Absolutely
I remember someone telling me he could kneel on the 50 ya line and throw the ball through the uprights. Amazing
nah
@@detectif1061 The guy could absolutely drill the ball. He was notorious for how hard he threw it.
There never was an athlete, a general manager and a person more committed to his fans in Denver than John Elway. So rare in today's NFL.

After watching the last few Broncos games, I had to go back and watch the GOAT John Elway! Here's hoping he gets us Eli, luck or Brees and then onto another SB WIN!!!
Jeff Hartwig this is exactly why I am here... I just hope they can draft a franchise QB now. Fix for the long run not just another quick fix where we are good for 4 years

I’m a Niners fan but I watched that game wanting Elway to get one badly. One of the most exciting Super Bowls ever
True competitor
Never been a broncos or elway fan... But i rooted from him those two games... And this vid make a grown man tear up... Thanks john.
He's the reason I like NFL, he is the reason I'm a Bronco fan. One of the greatest ever....!!!.
And he didn't just won two Superbowls as a QB, he also had the vision to give a second chance and hire another one of the greatest, the 18, Payton Manning, who brought another Championship home. Denver Broncos great history have one man in common, the one and only, John Elway.
A true Denver hero and what he is doing with the team lately will lead (hopefully) to a fifth super bowl.
Elway is a goat
Amen to that! I was 12 when I saw john play for the first time,it was the Cleveland game. The drive. I was hooked for life!! John Elway my childhood idol, greatest qb ever to me. Lifelong bronco fan.

Couldn’t win until he had a complete team around him. It’s the ultimate team game.
First 3 Super Bowls were Elway vs the NFC. Not to totally discredit his supporting cast, but those were 6-7 win teams without him.

Imagine your high school team going up against John Elway.
John Elway is the reason why I love football so much. Elway is simply the best of all time!
Me too! The greatest QB ever!
I'll take Elway, with a real team, vs anybody with a real team I like my chances
False. That would be brady.
@@BG-ig7vf It's Elway
I'm a Cleveland Browns fan and it was hard for me to see the Denver Broncos feed us and keep us out of the Super Bowl but it was sweet victory for me when they lost. But now watching the video John Elway and seeing his life accomplishments and what he brought to the table really says a lot about his character as a man. Now that I'm 49 years old he is someone that I look up to you as a mentor. Is someone that I could point to and say if you want to play in the NFL look to a man of character like John. Classy guy. Never gave up and always kept his head held high. Sure probably behind closed doors he had times of hanging it up. But I love is perseverance. And I love his retirement speech that really moved me to tears. God bless John Elway and his family. You can tell he is humble and he doesn't have to boast because you already proved it on the field.
I was always rooting for the '80s Browns to make it back to playing for and winning an NFL championship...
Just as long as it wasn't against my team,
even though I could probably live with it.
I was born in Denver, and was raised and still am a die hard Broncos fan. So much so I was actually cheering the Broncos through all the highlights, even though knowing the out come of those games. I get chills looking back too Mr. Elway.
His personality seemed to change through his career. From a shy surfer looking kid to a gravelly voiced vocal commander. The voice change is obvious through this documentary.
John Elway one of the toughest and meanest QB in history!
uuummm,, sorry Brett Farve, give credit where due. Elway was the the most physically gifted QB, even OVER B. Farve.
@@fast03vette4me Marino was the most talented QB who ever played. Quickest release, most accurate passer, hardest QB to sack, greatest pocket awareness, an unbelievable competitive drive, and ability to read the most elite defenses in the league. Out of all the QBs of that era, Dan had the least help around him to work with and still almost got it done. Miami had the worst draft record in NFL history during the 14 years after 1985. The 49ers were getting better players in the 5th and 6th rounds than the dolphins were getting in the first 2 rounds. No Marino was not the most physically gifted athlete, but was hands down the most gifted QB, Favre has even stated this
I was stationed in San Diego... in Thailand... from Denver that day ... 😊
Mark Jackson was an awesome WR
By the time John Elway retired he won more games as a quarterback in NFL history.
With a 2 -3 Super Bowl record that is how dominant he was...
They had no business being in those first three Super Bowls. Elway just willed them there. Of course, the NFC was so dominant during the 80's, no AFC team really had a chance.
@@jazzchamp agree Richard-he put those '80s Broncos teams on his back--don't get me wrong Joe Cool was a great QB, but he had some great 49'er defences with players such as Ronnie Lott--it took a good D and Terrell Davis to get Elway his SB!
@@jazzchamp I agree
@@docpj72 I agree
@@jazzchamp DB Tony Lilly getting burned over and over against the Washington Redskins. Elway, his WR's, Karl Mecklenberg, Rulon Jones, and Steve Atwater were the only guys worthy of being on the big stage.
Elway's father was head coach at San Jose State he beat John two out the three times they played against Stanford. His father researched the entire state of California for the right High school for John. Granada hills was a so cal passing power house back in the day. John was one of the greatest high school quarterbacks in history. He was badass. Full ride to Stanford witch was the quarterback university back in the day. Did not have a great record in college but would always pull some major road upsets of national powers , Oklahoma, Ohio State and usc back in the day. His last college game was the play game against CAL , When the ladrelled and pitched the ball about 20 times before cal scored a crazy touchdown the band was on the field because they thought the game was over. That play cost Stanford a bowl game appearance. Elway never played in a college bowl game, that is unbelievable.
As a kid we collected football cards. I cherished a *SIGNED* John Elway card traded to me by another kid on my block. I kept it in a 1 inch thick *pristine* clear plastic display case with 4 screws to seal it shut.
One day I saw John Elway sign a football on Tv. His autograph looked... _different_
That is how I became a Mandalorian.
And the Star of Hit Tv show MR ED.
I was there for the whole ride. I never wanted a different QB.
Me too. We always felt like we had a shot when Elway had the ball. What a ride.
Elways the Godfather of the AFC. Why?
The AFC were mostly underdogs in the Super Bowls (besides Elway in ‘87 and Jim Kelly in ‘90) from the mid-eighties to the late 90s. And here comes a guy that gets drafted the last year the AFC won in 1983. Gets blown out and embarrassed in every 3 Super Bowls, ‘86, ‘87 and ‘89. Only to end the AFC drought of 14 years, win back to back championships and walk off to the sunset. That’s why.
This man is why I am a football fan and a current quarterback. Remember growing up in the 90s and seeing this guy play football was a blessing. Will always have a place in my heart for Elway and the broncos.
I thought elway was overrated a couple years ago but after examining his career in greater detail I can definitely tell he was legit
John's such a great QB and person. It's a team game 53 man rosters 11 on 11... one star can definitely help but not alone. Elway's heart and determination mix with talent and decision making was legendary.

Love the old school drop back
Great player and I still think he's underrated. I still find the first throw you see on this video outrageously good, hardly no wind up, not good feet and still yeets it like a rocket
The fact that Elway only won 1 MVP shows how insane the QB talent was in that era. Marino, Esiason, Montana, Young, Theismann, Farve..
