For a great folk-rock version of "Centennial Highway Reel/Cooley's Reel" check out Newfoundland band Figgy Duff's version from their 'After the Tempest' album recorded back in the '70s...

Fantastic music love this kind of music ...stupid dance have to say...
Does anyone know if there is any artist who is the connection between Irish celtic music and hillbilly in the USA?
I'm a guy and I think they look good.
Was that a viola? I thought they had burned all of those...
whoa! X0 do any other girls besides me find watching guys irish step dancing highly attractive?! 8P
arraynetheelf are you looking to become Mrs. Michael Flatley, lassie?
Arms down and body strait isnot what makes it Irish. That's dancing class style and was for contests and exhibition. Checkout sean nos (old style) and ceili and set dancin, all very Irish.
yes - 'hilly billy' is the music of scots irish or scots who emigrated to the US. same music, different 'accent'
This is real Irish music not music by inbred hillbillies
what the heck is wrong with violas?
moris dancing is more fun to watch
There lead fiddle is pritty sloppy in places.
+robehickmann that's because their trying to mix a bit of bluegrass it to it which doesn't really work. or that she's probably classically trained. either way your opinion is correct
+Claire Mccarthy I wouldn’t be certain that she is classically trained, as the high notes she is playing are pretty consistently out of tune, and generally sounds as if she is playing faster than she is comfortable doing. I would not expect a classically trained violinist to have such obvious intonation errors. Classical playing of trad music is usually just strict rhythm, without the typical finger ornamentation/articulation.
However this is coming from someone who can't play reels up to speed (I'm a flute player), good traditional playing is not easy.
+robehickmann She sounds and looks amazing, your so critical for something that brings fun and pleasure you'll never enjoy things if your that way
Hard not to be observant however, when you KNOW what Trad is supposed to sound like. And this isn't it. Which is somewhat ok... they are doing things their own way and entertaining people. Being both classically trained and a Trad player, I understand and can hear how not knowing how to handle the bowings in more of a flow is what is sounding so off. I'm afraid Rob has a point. ;)
***** I'm a flute player too so we're on level ground here. Maybe it's just nerves then, lol they can get the best of ya sometimes.
it called'' Irish step dancers "Strictly Irish,"? with dancer who moves his hips lasciviously? it's a beautiful dance, I admit, but it is not traditional Irish dance.
is very nontraditional what performs here.
It really is too bad that there are SO MANY direct knockoffs of riverdance and celtic thunder. I mean COME ON "choreographers" get some originality jeez lol
