You know, there's an interesting thing, if you don't feast on someone's blood, his eyes remain human as in the whites do not turn red, but if you feast on someone, his face turns into a vampire looking red eyes scary dude, although it's funny to talk to someone that way and they're just talking to you completely normally like you're not a terrifying monster.
Preston Conser Hmm I thought originally, Reid's appearance was dependant on the state of the district you're in. But that doesn't seem to be the case. I've snacked on a few people (4 I think) and now I stick out like a sore thumb lol

You have no clue how happy I am Jake that you are pronouncing name of the game right. That is how the original word (which originated in these parts) is pronounced.
Vampyr is the game to put vampires in its original place, over the years Hollywood and Media have ruined vampires by making them high school students with issues and make them attractive looking and have some girl be his top priority. vampires should be brooding, dark and terrifying as they should be vampires should not be a sex icon, vampyr really shows what vampire are and what they should remain.
Sean Dowling while I agree that there's no way a several hundred year old vampire would concern himself with highschool, I disagree that it shouldn't be a sex icon. From very very early on (think Dracula) vampires have been aristocratic creatures of SEDUCTION. Even in Dracula the blood sucking was a thinly veiled metaphor for sex. You say Hollywood and media have ruined vampires and made them obsessed with some girl.. but you're wrong. Vampires being obsessed with a main girl is a feature of vampire stories since literally the beginning of vampire literature. Dracula was obsessed with Mina, before that Carmilla was obsessed with Laura, and even before that Sir Francis Varney was obsessed with Flora Bannerworth. In my opinion a vampire works best not as a monster but as a tragic character. A person inflicted with a terrible curse stuck in a fight between their morality and their need to murder for their own survival, forced to live with the guilt and the consequences of their actions for all eternity. Vampires have never been portrayed in their literature as ghoulish and mindless, they've always been brooding and thoughtful, you can't truly be monstrous if you still clearly possess humanity. Jonathan Reid in Vampyr is exactly that character, someone who desperately wants to do good but often finds it hard to resist his newfound nature. Where twilight really went wrong is making their vampire protagonists "good guy vampires" completely removing any morality struggles and honestly removing all of the negatives of vampirism. Your characters become annoying and unlikable if you remove any bit of suffering but still make them act like tortured souls.
Great Gem of a game from a "double A" (mid level studio) no crap microtransactions, no day 1 dlc, no forced multi player like many of the 75% crap "Triple A stuff" (Insert Jim Sterling Voice). We preach this game to all our friends to go out an play this, have a blast, and support the smaller studios who ACTUALLY care about what they make. We also like the dishonored type kill no one, kill them all, or kill only some style ending dialog based on HOW you play. Was a fun review Jake thanks for letting your massive subs know about this gem of a title.
It's a Masterpiece for my tastes. I like the movements, chaining, daunting atmosphere, victorian period, the decision making, the sleuthing and lore, the role playing as a resident doctor diagnosing and treating was a fresh experience. Also the chanting during embrace was visceral and I got the feeling of being the supreme being in the game.
Some nice twists and shocks, I truly enjoyed the tangled webs with the citizens. Kinda bummed that dontnod aren't planning any dlc, hopefully they'll make a sequel!

The Art style of this game from the people to the menu's and UI gave me some real dishonored 2 vibes, almost like they could have been designed by the same team
Bits of london are still like that - east london/Commercial Street by Christchurch and the ten bells still looks pretty old school, where Jack the Ripper used to hang out
Jake I know it's a late one but I was able to get my hands on OLED Switch the last Christmas I got Dragon Quest with it (still waiting to be played) I start testing this little thing as it is my first Nintendo console since ds and I checked some games I really wanted to play on a smaller screen in bed or when I hanging out with my dog backyard , Observer is a superb game and I love it on switch , Bioshock got the trilogy lost 47 hours of my life playing the first one for the first time for some reason I missed them as I was a owner of ps3 in that generation but man I got this game Vampyr and I have to say THANK YOU SO MUCH , THIS TITLE IS PERFECT FOR SWITCH I LOVE THE LEVEL SYSTEM TO BE HONEST I HOPE THIS WILL SELL GREAT AS I WANT MORE I HAVE 23 SOME HOURS IN AND IM ENJOYING EVERY BIT WHILE MY SERIES X DOWNSTAIRS IS CATCHING DUST WITH GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY , DOOM ETERNAL , JUDGMENT PHYSICAL NEXT TO HIM (I'M PLAYING GUARDIANS OF COURSE GREAT AS WELL AND PERFECT AS VAMPYR IS VERY DEORESING AND GUARDIANS IS A BIT MORE UP BIT ) THANKS AGAIN, AND I APOLOGISE AS WE ONCE HAD AN ARGUMENT ABOUT A GAME CONCEPT OR SOMETHING BUT I CAN SEE THAT YOU DO LIKE SIMILAR SHIT . ANY MORE RECOMMENDATIONS ? ANY ONE ? ZELDA AND MARIO NOT MY THING JUST SAYING LOVE MARIO WHEN I WAS 10 IN 93 AS WELL AS I LOVED JURASSIC PARK , BUT LIKE JURASSIC WORLD NOW NEW MARIO IS NOT EXITING FOR ME PERSONALLY.
Playing the game right now. The best part of the game for me is when you explore different places, and find things that tell you more about the world and the links to/ between the NPCs.
The human Npcs this game creates is a phenomenal system that uses your own morality as a human being as a game mechanic which makes your choices really justifyed by your own self and not directed by the game as good or bad. I really commend dontnod for making this beautiful game!
one thing that makes me chuckle is that every time you chomp on a rat he gives this super dramatic speech like "I have this thirst.. for blood..." Every time, it starts to sound hilarious
Vampyr is really good I can't stop playing it. The way it looks is good with me and sound track is perfect in my opinion. I'm very happy I bought the game 8am on the 5th lol. There's not many games I can't wait to sit down and start playing again. I have a very big game collection too so that says a lot. I got games I haven't even opened yet lol. Great video happy someone else's Appreciates Vampyr.
People shit on games so much, I have to remember to ignore them and just try the damn games. Should've played this game before now but did get it on sale for $10. Great game so far and it feels very unique.
I am adoring this game. It tears at your heartstrings somethimes. I've always been a huge fan of Vampires and Vampire mythology and this is thus far the best Vampire game I've played.
Something I do love is how the district's are effected by your actions (Spoilers continue) when you do the blackmail main quest you can spare, bite or charm the nurse Dorothy Crane who is a pillar of Whitechapel. And I love how not only is Whitechapel effected by how you deal with her but Pembroke is too. Crane is still a nurse there and with her dead/missing the staff at the Pembroke are fatigued because of an extra workload. It's that kind of worldwide ramification of your actions that sells the game for me. Also Reid is a thirsty boi (had to be said)
On switch it proved to be an amazing experience as one of the real dark, gritty games. I really echo your enthusiasm for the unsung vampire genre, it far outperforms the Bloodrayne series.
yes, the kind of vampire game I've wanted since childhood. (*I was a kid that was fascinated by this stuff and watched things like The Lost Boys, Fright Night and Near Dark over and over again; always daydreaming about how cool it would be to get turned and have all those powers + immortality)...this company has managed to make that dream a reality. I can't get enough of this game.... I'm already on the 2nd playthrough.
Picking this up on Saturday, and if it's even a bit like VTMB I will be completely satisfied. Ive been waiting for so long that I just want a game where I can walk around a city, and talk to people, and do quests as a vampire. God damn, why don't we have more games like this?
I'm a few hours in and completely satisfied! I've been waiting for a at least decent Vampire game since The Masquerade lol and well this one is turning out better than expected :D
The premise is similar to that vampire show from the 90s Forever knight. Except in that story the guy was a vampire cop who was trying to right his wrongs instead of a doctor
I'm really enjoying it! been excited for this since 2016 so I'm really happy that it's great! The combat like you said is fine, not amazing nor terrible. But the real enjoyment for me is the characters and the stress I go through when trying to work out who I will kill.
I'm actually in the opposite spectrum with the combat system, especially the upgrading of weapons lol. Seems a lot of people say it's ok at best but i have yet to hear anyone explain why thoroughly but i figured that a vampire has this classiness and if actual combat is unavoidable it'll probably look like what we have here in this game. It's good, to me.
Can this game please get a sequel? I just beat it, and loved it and would really love to see what else the Devs can do with the world the built and what improvements they could make to an already solid game. Sidenote: A new Legacy of Kain would also be amazing.
I literally just got the game today on Xbox one and I'm definitely in love with the game it might not have the modern day graphics but graphics aren't everything but man im addicted lol love the video by the way
Vampyr is a great game with a lot of ambition. It's certainly one of the more engrossing games I've played recently. I really hope it gets mad recognition so that Don't Nod can make bigger and even more ambitious games.
It's spelled "Vampyr" but is pronounced "Vampire" it's an older spelling of the word. The developers talked about it a while ago and they all say Vampire in the interviews.
I bought it on PC so I could steam it on my Twitch channel. Honestly I was stoked to play it even if it was crap. I have been playing it for about 10 hours now and it goes right to the top of my list. With the fight I found that it was interesting because it was not a straight up beat the crap out of your opponent; there is thinking and whole list of different ability and weapon combos that make for a truly satisfying feeling when you beat a boss or succeed in getting pass some mobs. I played all of the legacy of Cain and soul reaver games and love the darksiders too because it scratch that itch of combat but the added bonus of the dialog and consequences for each of your choices was a different RPG element that I have not felt in many games. Its a fighting Tell Tale game where your decision actually make a difference to the game 9/10
The game is great, I agree with you in all points I just reached Lvl 23 more you level up the more difficult the enemy level, it's kicking my ass but I love it.
My only complaint was that it didnt have the fast travel option.Sometimes i got tired of running from one district to the distant one for side missions and healing npcs.Overall pretty good game made with luv
I've been looking for a positive review of this game for a bit. I LOVE VAMPYR!!! Absolutely everything, my only complaint was quick travel. I wish I could jump from one district to the other, maybe incorporate that as a special skill or something, he is a magical creature of some caliber, is fast travel too much to ask, lol?? But aside from that I am a life fan, and I'd love to see more Jonathan Reid games in the future, the platform is there. Anyway, I have to go, I could have about this game for hours, but maybe another time!! Kudos on the review, and thanks for showing interest, the bulk of the internet has so-so things to say about this game.
While I appreciate that this game is good, the best part for me is that Legacy of Kain / Blood Omen gets to be mentioned. I love that series (mostly, Blood Omen 2 is a bit... weird, although the writing gets better by the end), and there's less talk of it than I woud prefer, especially since a new instalment is pretty improbable.
This game is definitely is gonna become a cult classic for its story and lore. The gameplay isn’t any revolutionary but it’s really the story that shines.
With all the games coming out in September and forward, I’d wait for a price drop for this still. The combat just turns me off from this game. But I don’t doubt it maybe the best vampire game to date as people says.
DarthStoogie6661 Same here, using my literal first-day-of-launch PS4 and the only thing i too hate is the loading lol. Other than that, THIS is what the definition of a hidden gem should be; not amazing or gets things perfect like a AAA title but great enough to warrant having it.
I also would like to add that Focus Home Interactive, as a publisher, has not added micro transactions to this game. And it is because of this I am looking forward to Greedfall.
for me this was the game that I was looking forward to as well but I have a few issues with it just keeps the game just keeps freezing and crashing on me sometimes a little bit of clipping even though they they patched the game I'm still suffering but I'm glad there are people out there who actually enjoy this game and I'm just going to power through as much as I can.
London looks like Montreal but with better streets and more Victorian buildings scattered around. Also, there's like 4 Lamborghini dealerships on Main Street and they're all owned by the same guy
Hopefully they update: Control Sensitivity/A few bug fixes with characters that walk around or get stuck in certain areas/to yes def work on minimizing the HUD/ and I really hope that they actually keep improving it overtime regardless if they finished it. Overall thats my main complaint. I can handle the action, I get it, but they def gotta work around that to make the other aspects of the game stick out. And initially (an if Im wrong) I thought you could go as a pacifist and not have to fight any humans. Yet there are times when I dont have a choice even if I have my stealth options equipped. I guess Im not that far into it
Seems cool and unique, but I have a hard time ever playing single player games anymore though. If I get time to myself it's spent usually by improving flaws or sleep. I play multiplayer games with friends I can't really see anymore more because it's important to do some kind of activity with friends, even games.
yea so i jumped in at the current price, and this game is amazing. i play the dialog like it is real life and i try to pay attention to the characters emotions in their voices to help choose the correct dialog path to get the extra hints for more xp. so far iv gotten to that surgery you see, and even though that quest ended well the means by which it was ended for me still had unexpected consequences. in the before you buy, you said the fighting was clunky at times, but i find that is only gets clunky when i start to get sloppy otherwise with a mix of main and off hand melee and vampire skills the combat seems to flow very nice. i would say that this game is 100% finished and worth the current price. i get many people cant afford to dish out this much for most games but if you have the means i personally think the devs deserve it.
Man I totally agree with every sentence. I wish as you said people actually bought great singleplayer gems like this, so the whole thing doesnt die off. Im so sick of the whole "neon twerking butt assault rifle dlc" for 5 dollars bullshit. Just sitting down, turning off the lights, and traveling to another world without "queefburglar69" swearing at your mom. The mystery... 2019 turned out to be a legendary year for sp gaming though :)
I hope since it's getting alot of positive reviews they can make a sequel with a bigger budget because it's great and all the problems with it are minor enough to fix them in the future
I thought I was the only one who enjoyed the Blood Omen games. Kain is such an interesting character and oh the things they could do now with the series... sigh.
I'm not killing anybody and I don't feel as if I'm missing out. It makes the game a bit more challenging and I sorta role play as Angel a little bit and it makes my experience so much better.
E3 videos next - gonna be a busy week or so!
Wooo!! I'm excited! Question. Are you going to be Live streaming on UA-cam for E3? If so, fuck yes I got beer ready lol.
I only caught one citizen who comments on your appearance, the street worker in White Chapel mentions your pale complexion but that's it.
I’m going to make my own video praising this game, but holy shit apparently this studio were the same people who made life is strange and Remember Me.
Jake Baldino will there be a before you buy for onrush or talk about it on your channel
This is pretty much the exact same as Gameranx review... a bit more opinionated and casual but not much is different.

Wondered that bc I finally decided to play it and have been sticking to rats and thugs.

I'd love to see a Venom video game with that type of morality. Pick and choose who's brains to eat
Zach Steubing, a venom game would be great.
Zach Steubing how about that one xbox360 ps3 game

My only complaint was that it didnt have the fast travel option.Sometimes i got tired of running from one district to the distant one for side missions and healing npcs.Overall pretty good game made with luv
senpaiiii
Same
sounds very interesting I knew it was going to be good since the time they announce it.
Blood omen 2 needs a remaster or we need blood omen 3. So much fun being a powerful vampire!
Load times are my only complaint, but I can totally overlook it
DarthStoogie6661 really? My PS4 pro loads it fast
I kept hearing the loading was horrible too; up to 30-45 seconds but my Xbox One X loads it in literally 3-5 seconds max.
Maybe it's about time for an upgrade then, I'm still on a launch ps4
DarthStoogie6661 Same here, using my literal first-day-of-launch PS4 and the only thing i too hate is the loading lol. Other than that, THIS is what the definition of a hidden gem should be; not amazing or gets things perfect like a AAA title but great enough to warrant having it.
I also would like to add that Focus Home Interactive, as a publisher, has not added micro transactions to this game. And it is because of this I am looking forward to Greedfall.
Jake seems to like good concepts in games rather than the game itself.
Good stuff Jake
Jake, is your shirt casual in Doom text? That’s ironically awesome!
for me this was the game that I was looking forward to as well but I have a few issues with it just keeps the game just keeps freezing and crashing on me sometimes a little bit of clipping even though they they patched the game I'm still suffering but I'm glad there are people out there who actually enjoy this game and I'm just going to power through as much as I can.
Hey jake what glasses u got? Those frames looks good
A game with a good story, tough moral decisions and memorable characters is pretty rare. It's a shame the combat isn't there.
I’d want to play it like a vampire version of dexter
Love this game. Really enjoying it.
I hope since it's getting alot of positive reviews they can make a sequel with a bigger budget because it's great and all the problems with it are minor enough to fix them in the future
Vampyr is a good game. Do you think - altough this message is kind of late - there is gonna be a sequel to Vampyr ?
I hope so.
Favorite vampire game ever!?!? CASTLEVANIA SOTN BOY
Legacy of Kain is my favorite game series EVER!!!
