Organic open-worlds should be the norm going forward. Climbing towers & staring at minimaps feel so archaic in 2018, i’m surprised so many games still do it this way
Yeah i agree to an extent but most ubisoft games get the same heat like assassins creed up until orgins was really just a reskin of the same game over and over it gets old but if they do what they've been doing this past year and just give it enough of a change to be a sequel but new feeling at the same time i dont mind the core farcry formula.
I don't think anything will ever come as close as how much I loved Blood Dragon (It was my favourite game of that year and it was basically a hecking DLC) but I am really enjoying Far Cry 5, I love how chaotic it is and how it constantly strings you along with things to do
I really want this game but I'm only 14 and I can't afford it but I still really want it. Hopefully I can get it for Christmas! BECAUSEVIDEOGAMES AND GAMERANX ARE MY FAVOURITE !!!!!
What keeps me hesitant is the setting, actually. What I love about Far Cry is it is a...ahem...far cry from where I live. Now it being set in the US...does it still feel exotic? Like something I'm not used to? I am a city boy, but I visit the Rockies all the time so I get a little exposure. Thoughts?
Flipping love this game! It's like the best elements of Ghost Recon meets the best elements of classic Far Cry...with plenty of new, fresh and exciting things added. Ubisoft has been killing it with their last few titles. Origins removed the monotony and mundane repetiveness of the Assassin's Creed Franchise and this game has done the same for the Far Cry franchise. If you liked the new life that was breathed into the former...you'll like the new life and freshness of the latter. Now, I must get back to blowing shit up and causing chaos.
EXACTLY! One of my friends loves ghost recon (idk why), but imo it takes elements of wildlands but does it better. And i told him that and now he is addicted. Imho it's a sleeper hit, i didnt expect it to be that good
christopher Barham Yassssss! It's very much a sleeper hit. I expected it to be good, but not this good. I liked Ghost Recon. Well, I guess I should say I liked the elements of GR that made it into FC5. Like you said, I think they took what was good from GR and not only blended it with the formula that is Far Cry...but elevated it and made it even better. I'm having a blast in FC5. I don't think I've had this much fun in a game since first playing Origins back in October.
Man I wish your gameranx reviews were more like this! I know obviously there is a difference in the styles you try to achieve but it’s just cool to see a more in-depth look into games like this! Either way love your work dude
Farcry 5 is the first Farcry I've played. I am having a blast and there are so many things to appreciate and enjoy. It might be a masterpiece, extremely high replay value. Stunning on the ps4 pro.
6:18 I definitely agree. Getting lost in “oh I need 3 bear skins to be able to hold another gun” and then just ending up hunting animals for hours was probably the last thing I wanted them to change. While it was something in all the other recent games, it never felt like a stale mechanic like climbing radio towers.
I totally agree! Especially about the prepper side missions, I find it really fun trying find a way in and finding what's inside. I know these villians aren't as great as Vaas but they are still quite interesting, I like John Seed a lot so far. I'm really enjoying the game it's pretty fun. Keep up the good work Jake, love hearing your opinions.
I think we can all agree FC5's by far the funniest out of all the Far Cry games. I mean the dialogue half of the time is just taking the absolute piss (especially side quests) and i fucking love it lol
I originally wanted this on my PS4 but I’m pretty much out of space so I got it on PC and had no regrets. Everything surprised me in this game. The intro was awesome and so was the ending I chose. I beat it in three weeks somehow and I expected to beat it in July or something but I am a little sad that the campaign is over, but there’s still other things I can do, too. Amazing game, 10/10.
I have no desire to play this game, as I'm not really an FPS guy, but I like your channel, so I watched the video all the way through. Keep up the good work Jake!
Right! I think it was because it was the first Far Cry to really nail everything in the game and it was the first of the series on the "next gen" consoles. Also, Vaas was a crazy SOB
Wow 3yrs ago. Gotta say, that start of the game was the first time in a FC game where I felt like I was a no body in a new place full of enemies. Stressful walking around without a weapon. Then, it's just regular far cry antics lol
I only beat the John seed section so I haven’t seen it all yet but so far my two issues are: 1. My car disappearing after cutscenes/story stuff when I go into a house or something like that 2. Unlike previous games I haven’t seen any badass big set piece story missions yet that I’m used to from these games. Usually there’s a couple of moments in these games (while scripted as fuck) feel sooooo bad ass and I haven’t gotten that feeling yet from the main story missions.
I love the game. It gives me the same feeling that I got while playing far cry 3 as a kid and it’s fucking awesome. I really wish you could physically skin the animals like in far cry 3 and 4. A few more hunting rifles would be nice and maybe some more in depth fishing mechanics like higher prices for heavier fish. I was pretty disappointed that the .308 carbine was not able to one shot a buck. It makes the hunting feel less realistic. Side missions and prepper bunkers all felt handcrafted and unique. Great addition to the series and it makes me very excited to see how they continue to develop far cry games.
Didn't play 4 or Primal, so Far Cry is still pretty fresh to me. 5 is a ton of fun, the gunplay is as good as ever, the soundtrack is awesome and the changes to the structure really keep you hooked.
I have Far Cry 4 played it a little bit but I bought Far Cry 5 it’s bonkers and I love it. It feels smoothly it’s fun and has a skyrim esque exploration feel going on. I also still love and play Skyrim and fallout 4
Really enjoying this game it feels a lot similar to farcry 4 but it has done something different too... The guns feel a lot better now... And especially the prologue is absolutely badass
I was reluctant on buying this game on release, from the trailers I didn't think they were doing anything that much different, and was kinda wondering if that was a good or bad thing. Thanks for clearing it up, it seems the same type of game with different flavour, but guess I'll wait a bit to buy it :P
Loving this game. Something I found can lead to hilarious moments is how friendly NPCs react to you pointing weapons at them and using your weapons around them without enemies around. I got my ass kicked at the prison for throwing remote explosives down, I wasn't gonna detonate them I swear! Then I accidentally hit F and kicked the sheriff in the ass, he wasn't happy about that.
Personally, I'm really glad that this game didn't make a political statement. It should do what it sets out to do, and have fun with itself while telling the story it wants to tell. Making a political statement feels alienating to those who don't agree with it on either side.
I just killed off Faith last night. The "Bliss" stuff was really interesting, but I kind of hated the fact that enemies or wild animals will spawn out of nowhere through the bliss. Often times behind you too.
the hunting isn't all as bad as you say. hunting all the different animals and skinning them also earns you lots of points to spend on skills. it's actually a bit better this time around, but it you don't really get that feeling that it's better until you start earning those skill points from kills, because the game doesn't really let you know its a thing unless you really check out the challenges menu. i'm always on the lookout for things to hunt to earn those skill points.
I've been playing Far Cry 5 a lot and I really enjoy it. Is it the next step in gaming evolution? No, but it is a damn good time regardless! It reminds me of a blend of LoZ:BotW and Red Dead Redemption, all set in modern day Montana. I also like how it's just gameplay is just addictive enough that it's always got you moving at a steady pace, but it never feels rushed...unless you have to outrun a bunch of psychopaths hopped up on flower juice, that is. It's this style of gameplay that reminds me a bit of MGSV:TPP, which I played a lot too. Plus, though I'm not normally one for getting hyped for DLC before a game is even out, I do like how they've decided to add on to the game in the same fashion as Blood Dragon did with Vietnam/Space/Zombies, even if they don't sell it as a separate game. All in all, I liked it enough to buy it and I feel confidant enough to say that I'm satisfied with my purchase.
Feels decent for a farcry game but I really feel like they could have changed stuff up for the 5th bloody game. Maybe after seeing what happened with Zelda last year I put high expectations into the Farcry games becoming a little bit more with more gameplay that would extend past end game. The amount of effort put into the game world yet it feels like the game world was built with 'Game as a service' in mind but they didn't want to go through with it mid development cycle. Kinda hard to explain in text so I feel like I need to make a video about how Farcry 5 could have been a whole new beast and evolved the franchise and offering more than 20-40 hours of gameplay.
I wish the crafting was still in the game and I wish there was like 2 or 3 sets of challenges for each challenge to get perk points but besides that I have been enjoying this game.
I like this far cry. I just didn't like how people are everywhere even in the middle of nowhere and your vehicle would vanish or be hard to find another. But overall, i really liked it.
I really like FC 5. I've just been wondering the map not doing any story missions. I've been working on side missions, challenges and finding stashes. Really looking forward to playing FC3. I bought the gold edition just because of FC 3 Classic Edition.
I'm having a good time with it. I hate trying to talk to someone and then the entire cult comes from the forest to kill me, and then a wild animal at the same time like clockwork. I've also encountered quite a few bugs that have been mildly infuriating, but nothing game breaking.
I wish i could go around and just do side quests and mess around. Seems like every 5 minutes theres enemies that spot me and then their infinite number of backup keeps arriving. Always have helicopters looking for me and capture parties after me! Leave me alone! Lol
This has been honestly my favorite Frycry so far, I also miss the crafting. I think they could have kept the crafting from Primal, but took it out for the map editer. What do you think?
Would prefer a much larger range of weapons, and I don't see why they'd remove crafting. Otherwise this seems fresh compared to FC4. I'll be buying this after all.
I hate how in a game that thinks it’s being immersive, the UI constantly holds your hand and breaks that immersion. At about 4:00 he’s wading through some grass and comes upon cult members. But it wasn’t a surprise to him at all. The game already told him they were enemies with the indicators above their heads and their ghostly silhouettes the entire time he was hiding. This drives me up the wall. The blinking dead bodies everywhere, the flashing objects on everything. The loop is basically “I know where the enemy is, dead or alive.” Absolutely ridiculous.
You can turn it off, I think. In Far Cry 4 you could anyway, I'm not 100% sure in this one, but it would seem logical to be able to turn off those types of things
Ubisoft did well not alienating there audience it's good from a marketing standpoint only having a little politics I live in Canada so I don't know how well they portrayed Montana but I think it's a well made map
Biggest complaint is the unvoiced, hollow character you play as, and unengaging and kind of pointless character customisation. Also I agree the weapon system could be more dynamic - my customization and more weapon types/varients. Best part is the villians and the whole dark atmosphere of the game. Also, the classic Far Cry gameplay and mechanics is always fun and enjoyable.
Personally, I don’t have much time to explore a shit ton, rather I want a linear kind of game to play, enjoy, and move on, but because every game now seems to be quite the investment, I’m not getting anywhere
I can see why but at the same time they couldve said SOMETHING interesting, like how Rockstar does in GTA's satire. It just comes off weird they have such a cool premise and cant say anything clever, making more fun of just the general political climate (on both sides) i think was a missed opportunity
I am having a great time with it. The inspiration from Breath of the Wild triggers my exploration side to just run up a hill even if it ends up nothing there. Far Cry isn't as stale to me since the first one I tried was Primal, so I can't really compare it to past games. Would you recommend the season pass for Far Cry 3 Classic at a possibly cheaper price?
Great game, really fun action packing, the story in the FC franchise for me was never important, it was always about the great villains, and the intense action, and in FC5 you got this with enough new and familiar things
I had watched a bunch of videos or both gameplay and analysts of those who have played it like yourself. With that being said I bought it anyway because it's a Far Cry game you get what you buy from it. Sure it may not be like the previous ones but I think Far Cry 5 wants that individual feel but still plays like a Far Cry game none the less..
My # 1 complaint is the resistance meters all fill up WAY to fast , ones 10k and the other are both 13k and it just doesnt feel balanced , i think they should all 3 be at least 25k each ...that would make such an incredible difference with the game imo
From what I've experienced you pretty much have to do all the story missions first before you start diving heavy into the side missions. I missed out on completing all of the missions in two zones because i filled the resistance meter too fast and it locked me out of some missions. Pretty annoying. That and holy shit this game needs more guns
I like it a lot.
Yooo, wanna see your opinion on the ready player one film i think you'd come up with a cool interpretation of it :)
I love you videos man keep up the amazing work running two channels at once.
BECAUSEVIDEOGAMES I also miss the hunting aspect, it was fun skipping the story and getting the best quiver, holster, etc.
Yes but how do you REALLY feel about it?
BECAUSEVIDEOGAMES is it worth the full price though?
Organic open-worlds should be the norm going forward.
Climbing towers & staring at minimaps feel so archaic in 2018, i’m surprised so many games still do it this way
Climbing Towers is something I want in my Assassin's Creed games tho. Other games, hell no
I'm still sad they took out the crafting system. Dunno about others but I really enjoyed hunting to get better gear.
I really really miss it.
For reason ppl kept bashing Ubisoft for the crafting and hunting. Looks like more ppl hated it than loved it
Wish they had an option for that. (._. )
Same here, really enjoyed it
kingofkings1stfs I mean I can understand hating the tower climbing (even though i enjoyed that too), but hunting?
This is my first Far Cry game, so Im pretty impressed with it so far and Im now even interested in trying the others.
That was great. I honestly love this Channel and wish you had more content on here!
Drop Some Wows! There's no way you watched it
I wonder why Far Cry gets so much for having a familiar formula when other games don’t. I am loving the game though.
Exactly, what I was thinking. Downward Thrust really picks on Far Cry.
Yeah i agree to an extent but most ubisoft games get the same heat like assassins creed up until orgins was really just a reskin of the same game over and over it gets old but if they do what they've been doing this past year and just give it enough of a change to be a sequel but new feeling at the same time i dont mind the core farcry formula.
saw the trailer with the dog and decided i need this game
I like the way you think
Good Doggo
A Dog are best game champions ever - can't wait until they can start using guns to fucking help out
I don't think anything will ever come as close as how much I loved Blood Dragon (It was my favourite game of that year and it was basically a hecking DLC) but I am really enjoying Far Cry 5, I love how chaotic it is and how it constantly strings you along with things to do
I really want this game but I'm only 14 and I can't afford it but I still really want it. Hopefully I can get it for Christmas!
BECAUSEVIDEOGAMES AND GAMERANX ARE MY FAVOURITE !!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm glad you're here, dude!
Ha! Loved the Canadian perspective. That IS how we see America.
Love from Montreal.
lol I feel like he protagonists are like right wing gun savy americans but they are still a lesser evil to the cult.
What keeps me hesitant is the setting, actually. What I love about Far Cry is it is a...ahem...far cry from where I live. Now it being set in the US...does it still feel exotic? I'm having a blast in FC5. I don't think I've had this much fun in a game since first playing Origins back in October.
Smooth Steve Don't forget Watch Dogs 2 which is easily one of the best titles Ubi has made in years.
Man I wish your gameranx reviews were more like this! I know obviously there is a difference in the styles you try to achieve but it’s just cool to see a more in-depth look into games like this! Either way love your work dude
I haven't played the older games that much (a little bit of 3 here and there) but this one I like I've been playing the heck out of it.
Thanks for the always genuinely good game reviews! I’ve been debating whether I should get the game, now I definitely will!
I love your work! Keep up🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Mathias!
Farcry 5 is the first Farcry I've played. I am having a blast and there are so many things to appreciate and enjoy. It might be a masterpiece, extremely high replay value. Stunning on the ps4 pro.

That Toybiz Cyclops behind you was my first superhero toy ever.
I haven’t gotten to play FC5 yet. But the Cyke thing felt important to mention.
The first time I got captured and was expecting to just respawn but woke up in enemy custody, I was like “alright this games cool” lol
The Shovel is the Best weapon btw :)
I am loving this game as well
hooray! glad someone else likes it. Seems like opinions are mixed
It's easily a goty candidate for me, but the endings did not live up to my expectations.
Does it feel different enough? To me, yes, but I haven't played one since the 3rd, so five + years ago.
Either way, great take on the game.
I totally agree! Especially about the prepper side missions, I find it really fun trying find a way in and finding what's inside. I know these villians aren't as great as Vaas but they are still quite interesting, I like John Seed a lot so far. I'm really enjoying the game it's pretty fun. Thanks dude! Appreciate you watching.
I didn't know Jake had a channel, I just started the vid and subbed the second I saw his face, 😂
thanks for coming over!
I think we can all agree FC5's by far the funniest out of all the Far Cry games.
I mean the dialogue half of the time is just taking the absolute piss (especially side quests)
and i fucking love it lol
I originally wanted this on my PS4 but I’m pretty much out of space so I got it on PC and had no regrets. Everything surprised me in this game. The intro was awesome and so was the ending I chose. I beat it in three weeks somehow and I expected to beat it in July or something but I am a little sad that the campaign is over, but there’s still other things I can do, too. Amazing game, 10/10.
I have no desire to play this game, as I'm not really an FPS guy, but I like your channel, so I watched the video all the way through. Keep up the good work Jake!
It's good but it's not like farcry 3 that game was a legend
GOAT
Right! I think it was because it was the first Far Cry to really nail everything in the game and it was the first of the series on the "next gen" consoles. Also, Vaas was a crazy SOB
best series for me and I don't want it to change ,additions are welcome of course.
Wow 3yrs ago. Gotta say, that start of the game was the first time in a FC game where I felt like I was a no body in a new place full of enemies. Stressful walking around without a weapon. Then, it's just regular far cry antics lol
Love those mgs figures in the background
I only beat the John seed section so I haven’t seen it all yet but so far my two issues are: 1. My car disappearing after cutscenes/story stuff when I go into a house or something like that
2. Unlike previous games I haven’t seen any badass big set piece story missions yet that I’m used to from these games. Usually there’s a couple of moments in these games (while scripted as fuck) feel sooooo bad ass and I haven’t gotten that feeling yet from the main story missions.
i agree that main story sucks, but man, side missions are Cool AF, i dont know why i was more invested on side missions
Jake looking fresh!
Didn't play 4 or Primal, so Far Cry is still pretty fresh to me.
5 is a ton of fun, the gunplay is as good as ever, the soundtrack is awesome and the changes to the structure really keep you hooked.
I just love this game so much I got the gold edition so I can't wait for the DLCs and Farcry 3 remaster
I have Far Cry 4 played it a little bit but I bought Far Cry 5 it’s bonkers and I love it. It feels smoothly it’s fun and has a skyrim esque exploration feel going on. I also still love and play Skyrim and fallout 4
I haven't played a Far Cry game since 3 and i'm really enjoying this one.
It really helps to skip a few games in a series sometimes.
I like that the buildings are all different now, you don't have the same cookie cutter outposts to liberate.
Thanks for clearing it up, it seems the same type of game with different flavour, but guess I'll wait a bit to buy it :P
surprised you didnt talk about the disappointing endings, that ruined any replay value I had
I actually love the game, I'm currently like 6 hours in. However I agree about the crafting and hunting; I do miss that.
Play 4 here. I feel the game is solid and awesome. Will play it till the end and repeat.
I just started playing this game and I gotta say... I love it so much
2 Is the birth of the whole series. also my favorite followed by 3, blood dragon.
Starting to like this more than the gameranx videos reviews
Personally, I'm really glad that this game didn't make a political statement. It should do what it sets out to do, and have fun with itself while telling the story it wants to tell. Making a political statement feels alienating to those who don't agree with it on either side.
I love this channel. 😊
Everybody I know including myself played this game for days straight until we completed every mission
I've been playing it for 16 hours so far and I'm just barely getting to the next section. The side missions are pretty good
I just killed off Faith last night. The "Bliss" stuff was really interesting, but I kind of hated the fact that enemies or wild animals will spawn out of nowhere through the bliss. Often times behind you too.
Never thought I would EVER say this in my life.... but I cannot wait for the season pass content...
I'm going to get this tomorrow, you talked me into it lol

So..... Jake..... What did you think of the ending? Would like to see a spoiler discussion on this game, keep up the great work.
Really fun, just miss the awesome unnerving antagonists. "Do you know the definition of insanity?"
You think you've seen everything, but did you see the secret ending in the beginning?
Off topic but I just got San Andreas for the first time..
Wish me luck! BTW Jake I love you
oh I'd love to re-experience that game for the first time. You're in for a freakin treat
I hate how you can't pull bullets/bits of metal/twigs out of your body to regain health like previous titles.
I have played Far Cry 3 so many times. I hope they make a Far Cry 3 remastered edition.
Not perfect.. but still a great game!
Ryan Craig can you ever really call a game perfect
brodey luise, The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, Wolfenstein 2, and Yukuza 0 IMO
brodey luise, Fallout New Vegas, Skyrim, Mount and Blade Warband and Far Cry 3
brodey luise The Last of Us
I'm having a good time with it. I hate trying to talk to someone and then the entire cult comes from the forest to kill me, and then a wild animal at the same time like clockwork. I've also encountered quite a few bugs that have been mildly infuriating, but nothing game breaking.

So as someone who's never really gotten into the past few Far Cry games, but just wanna shoot stuff and blow things up...would you reccomend it?
YES SIR
you're the greatest man!
You can turn it off, I think. In Far Cry 4 you could anyway, I'm not 100% sure in this one, but it would seem logical to be able to turn off those types of things
Pajazet P maybe the silhouettes and indicators can possibly be turned off, not sure, but can confirm the flashing bodies cannot.
Flashing bodies/objects could be turned off both in FC4 and Primal though, haven't played this one yet
SlyRy yes. All indicators and screen interface can be turned off. I find the enemy detection meters annoying.
I completely fell in love with far cry 3 and 4 but I skipped primal so I'm sure this will be perfect to me
Ubisoft did well not alienating there audience it's good from a marketing standpoint only having a little politics I live in Canada so I don't know how well they portrayed Montana but I think it's a well made map
I always wanted a pet bear named cheeseburger. Now I can with this game.
So... worth getting for solo play?
Yeah! I like playing it alone
BECAUSEVIDEOGAMES Coolio, I may pick it up then.
Fergal yup, just go at your own pace man. :)
Personally, I don’t have much time to explore a shit ton, rather I want a linear kind of game to play, enjoy, and move on, but because every game now seems to be quite the investment, I’m not getting anywhere
I think you're way more fair to this series compared to most reviewers
Screw politics! I'm glad Ubisoft didn't go that direction. It's a game and it should be just a game!
MaskSo James Fuck bud, love the spoilers already
I can see why but at the same time they couldve said SOMETHING interesting, like how Rockstar does in GTA's satire. It just comes off weird they have such a cool premise and cant say anything clever, making more fun of just the general political climate (on both sides) i think was a missed opportunity
MaskSo James What’s funny is Obama was president at the time they were making the game.
I don’t like how they got rid of the arm healing animations the series is known for. Wish you didn’t need a med kit to heal up.
Growing Bliss back there Jake?
FINALLY! You can pet the dog! I'm sold on this game now
It sounds like they took a look at Homefront: Revolution.
Thanks!now I know if I should buy this or not!!👌
It is an ok game imo. Still a good game but i prefer 4 over 5. 3 is perfect though so like you I've been waiting for another 3. Great video buddy
My # 1 complaint is the resistance meters all fill up WAY to fast , ones 10k and the other are both 13k and it just doesnt feel balanced , i think they should all 3 be at least 25k each ...that would make such an incredible difference with the game imo
Ey, it’s Jake Baldino
It feels alot the same but i havent been able to put it down it was put together well
From what I've experienced you pretty much have to do all the story missions first before you start diving heavy into the side missions. I missed out on completing all of the missions in two zones because i filled the resistance meter too fast and it locked me out of some missions. Pretty annoying. That and holy shit this game needs more guns
The m1 rifle kinda sucks. The lever action sucks totally. I've been using the same guns the whole game unfortunately
Exactly same here. I literally only switched to other guns just to get the perk point rewards from the challeneges.
I wish they would had added vehicle takedowns from far cry 4
are there no healing animations in this game?
There are, they're just not as over the top
I definitely felt like it was the best one yet but all those linear kidnapping scenes irritated the hell out of me lol
