  • Setting up schedules and routines can be so helpful in dementia care for both our loved ones and for us as caregivers. Consistent daily patterns around meals, personal care, rest, using the bathroom and other activities can bring comfort, reduce anxiety, and enhance quality of life for individuals living with dementia. But they don’t always work. To maintain our inner peace as caregivers, it helps to plan our days, but surrender our agendas and go with the flow of our loved one whenever possible since they don’t have the same capacity to be flexible and “reasonable.” #dementiacare #dementia #dementiacaregiver #caregiver #routine #schedule

Structure & routine are important when caregiving for anyone as far as medication & medical needs go but even the best laid daily plans are subject to complete chaos. ❤ so yes surrender your agenda or risk your sanity. ❤

I'm still struggling with what used to be! Thinking I can discuss something with him or he can still repair/fix what needs to be repaired. Ugh!

I’m with you 100%. It was like that for me the first year or two. For what it’s worth, I finally made peace with not being at peace and then I felt more peaceful. Acceptance took time for me, but it actually got easier. Big hugs coming your way, I’m so sorry that you’re on a similar journey! Thank you for connecting and sharing, it really helps me remember that I’m not alone and neither are you!!
