Chalk me up as another person whose dryer got fixed this way (and who also dropped a screw into the dryer housing when it was almost completely reassembled!) Many thanks Chris... I owe you one !
Literally just fixed it in 90 minutes start to finish! Also removed the front panel just to vacuum. Insane how dirty it was. Super thankful for this straight forward video!
Thanks, Chris - your instructions worked like a charm and the squealing has stopped, plus we gave the dryer a good cleaning at the same time. Appreciate your video and advice.
My good man, I have to thank you dearly. Bought a home a couple of years ago and I’m pretty handy, but the number of issues that popped up from plumbing to leaks in the ceiling have been terrible. The new dryer screeching would have been the proverbial straw. I had all the tools necessary and went into this reluctantly because things rarely end this way, but I was standing directly next to my dryer after using this info and could barely hear it. Long way of stating that I owe you a few cold ones. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the video, Chris. It gave me the confidence to tackle my own squealing dryer, and sure enough it works perfectly again. Tip: don’t drop the last screw to the power cord down the hole into the dryer housing.... it doubles the amount of time it takes to fix it!! :’-)
Thank you big time! Oiled the idler pulley, motor shaft and 4x rollers, and it's back in action! Toughest part was getting the dryer (+ attached washer underneath) out of a very tight fitting closet. Once they were out in the open + the lint was cleaned out, some spare 5W 30 oil for my truck applied with a thin tipped artist painting brush, everything moved MUCH smoother. Thanks again!
Hello Chris - another thanks on this from Rhode Island! I was getting all ready to buy replacement pullys , drum felt seals, etc. but thought I'd try this first. My 12-year old dryer is running smoothly and silently! Yay!
I have a really old Whirlpool LGR4634BQ1 gas dryer from the mid 90s (came with the house, and a newer dryer doesn't physically fit down the stairs to the laundry area) and I just wanted to say thank you for the video! I haven't tried it yet, but I wanted to point out that some of these older models seem to be built backward compared to this. Mine has an identical setup with the motor, pulley, wheels etc, but I only have to take off the *front* panel to access them. On mine, this means taking out two screws for the lint screen housing, lifting the whole top panel up (it pivots and should sit back against the wall), then taking out two screws at the top corners of the front panel. Then the whole front panel lifts up about an inch, and slips away from the drum. If I look down under the drum I get the same exact view of the pulley and motor as your video shows. If I can get away with just oiling these parts until we get our new laundry room built, I'll be very happy! :)
Thank you Chris. Excellent instruction video. I followed it and fixed our Whirlpool dryer within an hour. So now my wife is happy, and I am happy. Thanks again.
Thanks Chris! Your instructions were perfect and my dryer is running again...thank Heaven as our family generates a ton of laundry and it would have been a week before the repair person could get here, let alone the cost. Big hugs!
Thank you so much for this video!!! I’ve been dreading trying to fix this, but your instructions were spot on and no more squealing. Cost me less than $4.00 for WD 40.
Man you are a lifesaver. Had the same issue, this fixed it perfectly and saved me a $250+ repair call. Clothes smell a little like WD-40 but its a small price to pay
For future reference for those reading the comments section, please don't use wd-40. Its combustible and can be a fire hazard when paired with the heat from a dryer.
@@ginafernandez2439 Incorrect, WD40 is only flammable as a propellent. It has to have an open flame held to it when it is being sprayed out of the can. Using it to oil the pullies has no risk of fire. I used WD40 and had no issues at all.
Thank you! We have the gas version of this dryer. Turned off and unhooked the gas line from the dryer. Just unscrewed the ground wire and pulled the plug through the back of unit once it was completely unscrewed. Worked for us.
Thank you for making this video. My dryer was driving me crazy and finally yesterday I decided to do something about it. So without adding it to my husband's honey-do list, I started the process. Of course, he saw what I was doing and took interest and we both used this video to quickly solve the squeaking of the dryer. Didn't need a new dryer after 17 good years, just oil & maybe some deep cleaning (full of lint). It looks like new again.
Great vid! Just wanted to add that our issue was the internal dryer vent rubbing against the aluminum enclosure. I fixed by removing the silver aluminum enclosure and wrapping electrical tape around the interior white vent.
Thank You!! Our dryer started screaming a week ago. I knew it wasn't the belt since it was still drying. I used the 3-in-1 oil I had on hand and the screaming has stopped! There was the added benefit of vacuuming out all the lint and heavy dust bunnies. Hopefully we'll be good for the next few years.... and I was extra careful to hang on to the screws.
Good Video, thank you. My Duet was a bit newer, but mostly the same. Vacuumed the chassie + vent out. Put a non flamable penetrating oil on the 2 pulley bearings + the 2 front rollers bearings. w\Wiped them up. Had some snowmobile belt + clutch cleaner + wiped the belt + drum free of dust. Took about an hour including finding tools + cleanup. Running like new. Thanks again!!
Worked perfectly... Mine was a little different it had an extra screw right above the exhaust vent, and it had the external ground and 4 wires inside instead of 3. The white and green combined. This video was great though it gave the info I needed to get the job done. Thanks!
My Duet must be a newer model as when I opened it up the insides looked quite different. Nevertheless, I was able to find the pulleys and rollers and after some lubrication the dryer is running good as new! Thanks for posting this video and for your clear instructions, it helped me to approach this task with confidence!
Putting grease on that wheel closest to the rear and to the left is what did it for me. I, too, greased all of them but the video solved my problem. Thanks.
I finished before the video was even over....😂😉..kidding of course. Great Video, and thank you so much for making it. You're a bank account, and life saver. Kudos my man!
Thank you very much. Immediately no more loud shrieking noise. I will monitor if the noise comes back. One oops, after putting a few screws back in the back of the dryer, one screw fell back in the interior of the dryer.
@@ozzcooper if you don’t mind me asking, what oil did you use the first time so I don’t make the same mistake. I’ve got a few different kinds on hand I can choose from but I’m not 100% sure if I have an “chain oil” anymore. Thanks in advance.
This WORKED! I was shocked to find our way noisy dryer worked perfectly after this process. Two tips: Do NOT use WD-40 -- flammable and dangerous!! I got 3-in-1 oil and a tiny little hose that snugged onto its spout, worked great.
Perfect explanation. Thank you. Quick Observation ... 2:53 mark, shows your dryer belt twisted. That might cause unnecessary wear or breakage. Just thought you should know
This totally worked! My Whirpool Duet had a few more screws holding the back than shown, with a hidden one near the vent pipe and a stubborn clip holding the back against the vent pipe. But all good.
Thanks for the video. I took the back off and lubed it and problem solved. I forgot to put the long piece that's in top of they dryer (I was wondering why 1 screw was leftover) I started the dryer and it kept making a banging noise. I rewatched your video and saw there's a piece on top that needed to be screwed in it kept banging against the dryer when it was going
second video I have watched on this and very appreciative of the tips, it helped but there is no need to label the wires and take all that apart (at least not on my duet dryer) it all moves right along with the back panel.
My Duet dryer just started making the same sound! I have a stscked dryer on top and washer on bottom. To the right is a water heater. This is all in a little closet behind accordion doors on left and right. Not much space! Hard to see the back but there looks to be a smaller pipe running out of it and also a bigger metal cylindrical thing coming out of it. Dryer model is wgd9150ww0. Do I need to unhook all of that and turn the dryer around while stacked on the washer?
My dryer is WED95HEDW0 and it's squeaking loud as well. I have removed all the screws in the back, one above the exhaust hose, and the 3 screws under on the top cover but still can't remove the rear cover. Any tricks I should do? Do the same steps applicable?
Curious if you noticed the future electrical fire primed and ready to go on one leg of the electrical connection? There's a reason you had difficulties with that left side terminal since it's been hotter than hell from a corroded connection & now needs a new power cable and terminal block.
The belt is completely twisted for starters and could easily have been the cause of the extra wear and tare on the bearings creating the noise. I just replaced my belt and wheels with Amazon cheap kit and it was failing after 4months. Bought OEM parts at 5x the cost but didn't replace the roller pins. I started getting a squeal. I just used Remington DryLube as it was the closest option I had at the house and I didn't want it to drip. Also be mindful of the oil/grease used. Many opinions is to run them dry. Whirlpool does mention lubrication is necessary for quiet operation but fail to list exactly the product that should be used. I have read turbine oil or a Drylube should be used. Sad I have search over an hour and the manufacture can't even list what product should be used. Even the service paperwork inside the dryer doesn't list it. What the heck, why is this so hard to get a official recommendation on a lubricant to use.
A electrician friend put up new lights in my laundry room. I believe he stepped on the dryer, now the drum is hitting the top as it turns. As he’s been more than generous with his time and work I’d feel like an ass complaining. How can I fix this?
I noticed that as soon as the video showed the idler pulley. Ugh... and scrolled a while till finally saw someone commented on it. Yikes that thing is twisted.

exactly why im here. same noise. like 355

the bearing is bad and the oil will only be a temp fix.you need to replace those wheels that spin the belt. The bearing have gone bad.
@@miketrav Thanks! I replaced the belt and one bearing. It sounds good as new!
Thanks for not showing the unscrewing parts, what a waste of video those shots are on youtube
does anyone know if this procedure is the same for gas duet dryer? thanks.
Yes
Then why on all other vlogs there is no mention of using oil....oil makes clothes smell...no thanks
The first load after fixing the dryer this way smelled of burning lube. Anyone else have this problem? A bit concerned I was burn it down
I had this too, as I mistakenly first used WD-40. Once the fumes evaporated, the burning smell went away.
Your belt was twisted on the pulley. Upside down on the tub...

It's not twisted. It's designed that way. It's two pulley on different axis.
