The Doctor already had 13 incarnations. Don't forget the War Doctor, and also don't forget that the 11th doctor was granted a new set of regenerations by the Time Lords through the crack in the universe at the end of The Time Of The Doctor, just before he regenerated into the 12th. So Whittaker is the 14th, technically. Also, are we supposed to believe that there was another regeneration before he was granted the new set? They're just completely flaunting their own rules at this point, so I agree, these "adventures" are just a fever dream.

Technically the end would have been Matt Smith, that was the end of the Doctor's regeneration cycle. Everything after him is a bonus granted by the Time Lords.
My theory is that Jodie is playing a time Lady suffering from a delusion that she is The Doctor. This explains everything.

When a woman takes over a popular male character then screws it up it just reinforces the idea that women are not as good as men. It kills the show and does women a disservice.
The problem with modern feminism: By having to directly and very forwardly state how females are just as good as men at certain things, they indirectly imply and reinforce that this scenario is an exception to the rule and not the status quo.
Aka, what you're saying. By shoe-horning in their agendas against what feels natural or even makes sense in a character who has been the star of an ongoing show for over half a decade, they are devaluing their own message and reinforcing it as not normal or not even true. Why does the Doctor have to fit their agenda when they could at least make a well written side character with those qualities? Not everything has to be "represented" in a show. Good writing is more important. If you want representation, write your own good show.

I don't mind if a characters is gay or not. I just want a very good narrative from the said show. I mean, look at GOT Season 8. It doesn't have any representation except for the ladies but it's disappointing finale for a story. That's how a poor writing can ruin and already well established one.
Look, all I'm saying is that, I'm not using writing criticism as an excuse to criticize representation. I just some guy who appreciates good stories if it was done right. Just be glad that you guys had this variation of stories as my country only have copy paste romance genre which I've grew bored off and knew every single plot details that will come.

ghostgaming I’m too young to have seen the original Doctor Who, but I started in 2005 and thought that it was pretty good. I thought Matt Smith’s era was particularly good, but it started turning to shit after that.
@ghostgaming pet cemetery dr who came back but there was something just not quite right apart from boomtown and its prequel most of Eccleston's run was quite good the self justification of bad wolf was a bit naff but like old who it was fun. The doctor was a hero with a sense of purpose. Most of Matt smith was good until he was killed by a quickly resolved Moffat plot. The crack from the explosion of the tardis which did/didn't happen. When matt came back he was amy pond's impression of the doctor. Which explains capaldi midlife crisis or stupid uncle role. I thought moff was bad when he marked his territory like an incontinent dog by pissing clara into every incarnation and being the motivator for hartnell's doctor to leave galifrey.

They honestly did interpretive dance for the fan made remake of Robocop for a scene. Others with puppets and animation and so on. Worked surprisingly well.

I love how the BBC are so braindead, they couldn't realize that the "companions" are just as important on screen as the doctor. Some of the best and most beloved characters in doctor who were the female companions from Rose to Sarah Jane to my personal favourite, Donna. But nah, those sort of thoughts are just too demanding for modern BBC.
The next carnation of the doctor should be an articulate Scottish drunk.

When I first watched Doctor Who back when I was young, my mind was absolutely blown away. It made me think of the universe in a different light and made me question what was really out there.
“What other species are out there? What kind of technologies, cultures and ideas do they possess? What kind of horrors and beasts lurk around the abyss of space?”
It made me want to discover it all. It made me want to experience it all, like one of the Doctor’s companions. If it wasn’t for Doctor Who, I probably wouldn’t have the drive to try and become an astronaut and at least *attempt* to fulfill my dream of going into space.
When I watch this Doctor Who, I don’t feel the same energy, or intensity, or wonderment when I had experienced the first time. Instead I feel like I’m witnessing an old friend, who I’ve cared for so many years, be shamelessly raped and beaten before getting executed from a gun to the back of the head.
Fuck the BBC and the writers who work there, for taking something near and dear to my heart, something that had genuine influence as to what I want to become, and turn it into utter fucking garbage

Given the shit the Powers That Be behind the camera have done, I'm not sure at this point how much is Whittaker herself or if she's just being a good soldier for them, performing how they want & supporting the show off-camera.
@@therebel4332 I don't blame Jodie for this atrocity. She's not been awful she's just kinda meh. She clearly enjoys being the Doctor and that's all you can really ask. I've seen plenty of women characters taken seriously by their writers which actually end up fantastic. Sigourney Weaver in the entire Alien series comes to mind as does Trinity from the Matrix. Even Clara had a way about her to just shut up a room and make them listen to her when she needed to. But the writing has just been so bad these last two seasons.
Andrew B I agree it’s mostly the writing and directing fault. I always liked Jodie A LOT, I think she’s a good actress and the news of her casting made me a bit hopeful that her skills could make it work even though I was terrified knowing Chib’s lack of skills in the DW-writing department.
But now it seems like she lost any ability to act whatsoever. Which makes me believe the way she’s acting (cringeworthy and over-the-top) is completely intentional - she doesn’t really know the Doctor (only watched a few of David’s and Matt’s episodes before she started filming, if I recall correctly) and no one in the writing / directing team knows or cares enough to point out that that’s not the Doctor at all.
Editing to add that, even though I think she’s skilled, I still don’t believe she naturally has the air of authority necessary for the role. As a woman, I can safely say that most younger women don’t (though a few come to my mind from my own personal experience). I think it would have been easier if they had tried to cast an older woman. I can think of a few older British actresses who could do the Doctor justice.

Just a little correction, technically the 12 lives ran out with Matt Smith, since David Tennant regenerated twice but managed to keep the same face and the John Hurt doctor didn't go by the Doctor. So by Jodie's time she was part of a new set of 12 lives that started with Peter Capaldi.
That's the big problem with this new black "Doctor", how can she be a past life when all 12 lives are accounted for on screen, and the first Doctor has been referenced to numerous times as the first and we see that he was the first to take the TARDIS and leave Gallifrey, before the TARDIS was even a police box. So either 1. they are saying that the Doctor lived 12 lives before the First Doctor was even around, which makes no sense, 2. the writers are fucking hacks who either don't know or are seeking to destroy the lore or 3. both. Fuck this episode, fuck Chibnall and fuck the BBC.
Lore, continuity, and established characters no longer matter. Everything can and will be retconned for the sake of identity politics, political correctness, and diversity.
Technically The Brain of Morbius showed that there were previous Doctors before William Hartnell but I always thought that was bullshit
Strategic Viewpoint I thought those other faces were the past regenerations of Morbius. I always saw it as a way for the audience to see who was winning their telepathic fight. If I remember rightly it started by showing more of the other faces then as the doctor started winning we saw docs 1,2 and 3 which showed him beating Morbius. The fight then caused his brain casing to short out and he never quite recovered
@@WNShadow814 It is ambiguous, personally I think that them being Morbius makes more sense. Also there is a bit from I believe the Five Doctors (can't quite remember) where William Hartnell is referred to as the earliest regeneration by the Time Lords.
I think Chibnall's doing this just to piss off everyone who's made fun of his 80's interview where he was trashing the show.
The diversity and agenda crap is mandated by the BBC so showrunner doesn't matter, it would have been written in anyway.
As for the Morbius argument, mine is that it makes _no sense_ that we would see *all* the Doctor's faces and *none* of Morbius during that fight. I'm of the opinion that those unknowns were Morbius's faces, because it wasn't like Morbius had an upper hand as he was clearly struggling as much as The Doctor. Just sayin'. 😁

No, you only have to pay the TV Licence (TV tax) if you watch LIVE broadcast on any device. So, if (like me) you don't watch live TV then you don't need a TV Licence. I get 1 threatening letter each month addressed to 'The Occupier' from TV Licencing (the BBC outsources this to Capita) which goes straight into the bin. NEVER speak to a TV Licencing 'officer' if they come to your property, just close the door in their face. Not that they have ever bothered to come round, or use the mythical TV detector van outside my house :) So go and get Netflix and you will never need to pay the TV tax again :)

I don't disagree with you, but don't forget that Sci-fi has always been used as a tool for social commentary. I don't know Dr. Who, but I do know Star Trek which was regularly toeing the line on controversial subjects. Just having Lt. Uhura, a black woman, on the bridge was shocking in its time and many might have have called it pandering to social trends. However, the show didn't treat her presence like it was the most important thing ever put to TV. She just did her job competently in the background for the most part. Some people will always point out non-white or female characters as an agenda to shoe-horn in diversity hires, but I think most people don't care if there's an agenda as long as the character is well written and the story is compelling.
I'd rather watch the firefighters try to put out that dumpster fire than watch this seasons Dr. Who.

How difficult would it have been to simply say “This is the NEXT version of the Doctor”?
I would have been like “Oh, that’s interesting. We’ve seen the doctor interact with previous incarnations, but we’ve never seen a current doctor interact with a future incarnation (unless you count the Valeyard, which current Who clearly doesn’t).”
It would have been a new idea, that takes a concept that show has used before for simple fan service, and turned it on its head.
But no, they had to go the stupid route. And claim that this was actually a secret reincarnation that no one knew about.
Remember when that sh*t was a MAJOR plot point in the 50th anniversary special, and was so significant that it changed the underlying narrative of the show from that point forward?

The story behind Capaldi's Doctor was actually really awesome.
The idea that the universe wanted the Doctor to suffer and remind him about one of his toughest regrets was so fucking cruel and I loved.
I watched the Pompeii episodes again recently, and thought "hey, wait. That's Capaldi. What the fuck? But isn't he the Doctor? Ehhh?".
Now their choices for the Doctor is "Are they good? No? Hmm.. Is this person white and male? No? Fuck it, they'll do then".
it was 3 years ago of course, but Capaldi was in Torchwood and the story of that character and its ending is just that reminder

You re one of many doing this and the problem is that Chibnall and Whittaker and all those at the Guardian reading BBC would say good riddance. Its as if they actually dont care the ratings are going down the tubes just so they can signal their virtue.
Chibnall has always been a hack. Broadchurch is incredibly overrated and he wrote some of the worst episodes of Torchwood and Doctor Who under RTD and Moffat. His only other real claim to fame was Law & Order UK which copied scripts wholesale from its American counterpart. I think there's a good reason that unlike his peers Chibnall never wrote any New Adventures books or Big Finish audios. He just knew which hands to shake at the BBC and which boxes to tick to keep them happy.

How about having Jo Martin be the direct future regeneration of Whitaker and due to a mixing of timelines or some other plot mcguffin she thinks she is from the past of Whitaker instead of her future? Also also, the Matt Smith ending episode had tied nicely into the Doctor getting a new regeneration cycle and somehow they had made the whole 13 cycles thing kinda work and be semi-concise - heck even including the excellent John Hurt as the "true 9th but not really" regeneration.
Jo Martin actually played it straight and from the hip, adventurous, kind, sure, regurgitating the "mercy of timelord / fury of timelord" Tennant episode, but still, she did the character right AND she didn't hesitate be just the right kind of cruel - because sometimes, even the best of Doctors know the need for some more radical solutions to problems.
Like, seriously, fuck it, can we have Chibnall's 3rd season with Jo Martin?

I’m in the US. When I was young there was no cable tv in my area. My introduction to the doctor was late night on the local PBS channel (who also introduced Benny Hill and Paul Hogan to us.) In my eyes there is still only one doctor. He had curly hair, and wore a hat, a trench coat, and a really long scarf. He was awesome. It’s so sad that society has worked so hard to destroy everyone’s favorite shows and movies. Benny Hill and the Paul Hogan show will never grace American tv again and that just really sucks.

I feel sorry for Barrowman. I've not watched the episode but he was most likely the highlight. He's so enthusiastic about the show and most everyone loves Captain Jack. The BBC knows this and it's just so painfully obvious that they used him in order to boost the ratings. I'll take that back if he comes back later and it turns out his inclusion was actually meant to set up a clever story arc, but I doubt it.
But in the past they showed the doctor as a white boy when they were showing how the Master went insane....
