Drinker, I love the channel brother I have a recommendation for a drink show combination, get you some Plantation three star white rum and enjoy some Sam Axe style mojitos watch Burn Notice.... brother that show needs a shout out, great television!
The Cybermen are favorites of mine because they are, more or less, an army of the Undead. Such a thing cannot be stopped, as you will never have enough bullets, and they can replace their losses by using yours as fresh stock. Fuck the daleks. Cybermen are perfection, as they cannot feel anything. No more torment, be it physical or mental, and immunity to fear. That is perfection, and they wouldn't have to make my upgrade mandatory, I'd volunteer.
Gotta give it to you... the last season of DW was bad... that being said maybe the next doctor will be at least sightly better (which should not be that hard) also maybe they can do another universe reset just to erase this from canon
Brilliant! There actually is a Doctor Who villain who gets in the Doctor’s head and messes with reality. The Dream Lord as played by Toby Jones. All the crap since Capaldi left could be wiped out of existence.
"You are the random chosen one." That sounds stupid. The Doctor being just a regular Time Lord who decided to go rogue and abuse his powers for the better of others is unique and ultimately interesting. It makes him unpredictable, grants an air of mystery, and makes him relatable; because he's not special because of what he is, but because of his character. The Doctor sets his own course. This fate bullshit where the "Doctor" is a special Being who is the source of the Time Lords is below fanfiction quality writing. You'll notice how this did nothing to the Doctor's character. It just makes her "THE SPECIAL" at the expense of well crafted lore. Unlike the War Doctor, who shook up everything we knew about him, caused conflict, and ultimately improved our fundamental understanding of his overall character. This new retcon is a waste of time and demoted the character overall.
The Doctor being a well meaning renegade Time Lord is made even more impactful when you realise that most of the other renegade Time Lords aren‘t well meaning. They do what they do because they‘re driven by destruction, because they want space to conduct immoral scientific experiments, because they want to irreparably play with history to make it conform to their idea of perfection, because they want to watch living beings from different species and times fight one another. Not because they just want to escape monotony and see the sights with their granddaughter, or nudge people in the right direction, or help the impoverished and enslaved win their battles for freedom and save people, by, occasionally, sacrificing himself. The Doctor is unique not because of his birth but unique because of how different he is to other Time Lords. He doesn‘t view other species as ants who may or may not get squashed as he walks but as beautiful and complex and worth his hearts and lives. That‘s why he‘s so incredibly special, because he‘s from a race who are like gods unto everybody else but has sympathy and empathy and compassion and puts those feelings to good use, not because he was born special
exactly and i loved with the 11th doctor we see that when he works hard to save races, he will always end up killing or erasing another and the episode that dives into that is one of my favorites, seeing such a complicated subject looked at because the doctor thought he was doing good and justice. hes not necessarily wrong like they accuse him of being in the star beast but they offer different perspectives on the subject and let the viewer know that there isn’t a right answer. in doctor who ive always seen most episodes as able to be taken as ‘there isnt always a right answer’
I agree but personally I don't feel like the War Doctor really helped. It's an interesting idea but he's supposed to be the mysterious/forgotten incarnation though I think he may have had more if not equal screen time as 8 who really should've been the War Doctor after Eccleston decided not to return instead of making the numbering messy. I also feel like it wasn't really a good/fair bridge between 8 and 9. If anything, it seriously creates a further rift between classic and new who for me. Plus the thought of the Doctor drinking from a cup to become a warrior feels a bit pointless considering any other Time Lord could've done the same thing. In fact RTD's original intention was to have 8 be the War Doctor. However, I do seem to seen to be in the minority who thinks McGann should've just been the War Doctor as the War Doctor was of course very well recieved 😖
I'm a woman who has loved and watched nearly every episode of Dr Who since I was a kid. But the episode where the Doctor became a woman was the last one I ever watched. Not so much because he became a woman as that I knew this was the start of the corruption of my favorite franchise by "the message." I didn't have the heart to see it happen.
You are absolutely spot on. DR. WHO did not need fixing.. This Fake Imposter "Doctor" has no place in the Whoniverse...I never watched 1 episode..I already knew even from the pencil-thin Logo to the rags the character threw on it was going to be male-bashing anti-Brit trash rubbish...the True Evil was the Imposter bitchy "Doctor"...
I couldn't get through all the Capaldi episodes but a few were good but they lost me at the woman. I love strong women but the show lost something. Man, I miss getting so excited to watch the next episode with my family. So sad.
@Captain McDog I wonder about this sometimes. Maybe it's part of human nature, but I think iconic male characters appeal equally to men and women, whereas iconic female characters generally appeal less to men. There are a few, like Ripley from Alien, who have wide appeal, but they tend to be less feminine. As a consequence we have a long history in movies and TV where the vast majority of the greatest, most iconic and most loved characters are male. This fact totally angers the modern SJW crowd who now control a lot of entertainment production, and so we see many famous older male characters being deconstructed, nullified or even reinvented as women (as in the case of Doctor Who). I could perhaps stomach some of this SJW nonsense in modern film and TV if only the stories were well written, consistent, thoughtful, mature and entertaining. But as the Critical Drinker hilariously points out they are usually anything but.
This should be the *best* time to be a geek, but the ones ruling the roost have henpecked away all the wonder, creativity, and compelling characters that made us fall in love with all these movies and shows in the first place. Even 7 or 8/10 of the games coming out now suck right out the gate when tech is only going up like what the absolute hell is going on
Jason Remington I’m deeply sorry. Being only a fan of Star Wars, it was quite easy to just quietly bury it in the backyard and move on with my life. If all of my favorite franchises were systemically taken down for seemingly no reason, I don’t know what I’d do.
Non-Whovians, please judge Dr. Who by its 50+ years of excellence rather than its few years of B.S. The show used to be so amazing. 😭 R.I.P., Dr. Who…I’ll always love you 😢
@00ammy00 You could go back to the very beginning (1963) or start with Series 1 (2005). Christopher Ecceleston is great as the Doctor. People should never skip him.
I remember being with my family, huddled around the TV, on the Christmas of 2010 and watching Doctor Who. We all cried when David Tennant regenerated and it laughed when Matt Smith appeared, we were so excited for Doctor Who to return after. I miss those days
White people seem hell bent on destroying all their own accomplishments, all in the name of some falsely placed guilt that borders on fetishizing. It's really disturbing and sad.
Funny how the BBC is making the Doctor have unlimited regenerations aside from the fact he had a limit to 12 and the Time Lords gifted him an extra full regeneration cycle (presumably 12 more.) If the Doctor had an unlimited amount of regenerations, the Time Lords didn't need to gift him more and River Song wouldn't have needed to give up her remaining regenerations in order to save him, either. Also, imagine if Capaldi's Doctor wakes up and the Timeless Children nonsense was all a nightmare created by the Dream Lord
They could of honestly of found a way around simply by saying "there are some uncommon cases of time lords were lucky enough to have 13 regenerations and even rarer cases where time lords have gone past 13 regenerations but they become volatile, their regeneration can turn planets into stars if left unchecked, so it was common practise to kill them during mid regeneration after the 12th cycle." There, reason why without making insanely special.
What annoys me is that Gallifrey is in a Time Lock, since they possess time travel they ensured no one could mess with their past. The Timeless Child annoys me because there’s no way to bring the Time Lords back. They’re gone now because apparently a race that held back the Daleks can all be killed by the Master on his own.
The more I think about this retcon the more infuriating it is. It’s so bad that I can’t believe Chibnall wrote this for any other reason than pure spite.
just treat it like it never happened. at the end of Peter capaldi's run he decided not to regenerate. if you look at it that way it's actually kind of beautiful. all of the things got wrapped up pretty beautifully. he recovered the time lords. the girl got to travel the universe and a tardis. he saved all those people and he even reconciled with the master . it's basically the perfect way to wrap up the show so if you just treat it like that was the end it works..
Wouldn't be surprised if he did write it out of spite for the old guard/fans. We have been throwing criticisms at him and BBC ever since episode 1 of series 11 and we amped it up after Arachnids in the UK. I feel like his thought process was similar to "I'm fed up of all these whiners complaining, so I'll do something so drastic it will force them to leave permanently so then I'm left with my own supportive fanbase", before releasing that he doesn't have one and he literally just got rid of all the viewers except those who want a good laugh, those too lazy to change the channel and those too bored to care.
he did it for self gratification mostly, people like them dont care about anything other then being seen to be doing good, its a mental illness, thou must do good and be shown to doing so.
They all do it out of spite. You are not fans to them, you're new recruits for the agenda and when you tell them what they're writing for is a fucking show and not their craptastic blog with a show theme they screech internally in rage and double down. Even the most mediocre writer would of taken the cricitism in in some way and made an attempt after a certain point but that would meant to them that they have to accept the notion that their self image as bringers of moral enlightenment to the ignorant masses is wrong and people think for themselves and not there to fufill some fantasy of a gasping, applauding crowd.
BBC: the Doctor can regenerate an infinite amount of times Fans: remember how the 11th Doctor needed to be given regeneration energy regenerate into 12th because he had exhausted his 12 regenerations? BBC: yes, but no
The Time Lords covered their asses and gave fake regenerations so he didn't old himself to Peter Capaldi At least them covering their asses would be consistent
@@redjirachi1 Meaning their goverment knew that they had to cover their asses, meaning the Doctor being Lord President TWICE should know, and his friend/companion Romana should know as she became Lord(/Lady?) President, funny how she didn't tell her friend about it. Besides, Doctor was dying for old age for a LONG time by that point. If he could Regenerate, he would long before he would age to that point. Notice how Regeneration kicks in immediately when they gave it to him? That's how old he was! The 1st Doctor (William Hartnell, since now that title might be confusing) Regenerated due to old age when he was 400-ish years old, 12th was about 1100 years (meaning how long his incarnation had been running about, not his actual age).
Regarding the retconning, there's a silver lining in the old expression "two can play at that game." If the show ever gets a good showrunner who cares about the lore, all they have to do is start their new season with the Doctor imprisoned in some kind of Matrix style computer simulation and reveal that everything after Peter Capaldi (and maybe some of Peter Capaldi) was fake. A computer simulation to keep the Doctor occupied while the new bad guys do their thing in the real world. You could even have it so that everything that happened in the simulation was controlled by the bad guys to demoralise the Doctor and weaken his psyche. There, problem solved.
@@alexanderneronov2348 Russell Davies is returning and while that is possibly decent, there can't possibly be enough to save the show at this point. Not enough at least. Some fans claim Davies went woke long before the mid 2010s began this stupid trend and therefore, dont expect him to have his mid 2000s quality
The people in charge will never allow this, all these shows being fucked is part of a plan to force a new "normal". Sadly this propaganda is going to be one of the main hills they chose to fight and die on.
The only hope i have is they split missy and the master into two separate characters that and the adopted mother of doctor was actually missy and was all a lie and missy planted fake memories of regenerations into her mind using the matrix therefore undoing this crap. Time can re rewritten.
@@Nerdexoticthat’s actually a really good idea. if they do something like that, they could have the black female doctor who showed up( I don’t remember her name) be a future doctor who had some of her memories lost( I wouldn’t mind if she came back, she was better than Jodie in my opinion).
@@williamwebb1786 It would actually makes sense the master always lies to the doctor why not this? and these arent other doctors they are are other timelords.
Hollywood killed of and destroyed the X Men in much the same fashion. Signing off from what used to be the United States, I don't know what we will be, but it won't be united.
The thing with Doctor Who: it never got a true reboot, so the universe with the First Doctor is the same universe with the Thirteenth, whereas Star Trek had Vulcan get destroyed for Abrams, and I think for STD and the others after, so it’s clearly a parallel reality. And in Marvel, not much that happens in the movies affects things that happened in the comics in the 60s. For Doctor Who, it’s particularly apt to have going back to the photo album as a way to show you can’t even enjoy the original now, because they say it’s a lie by canon. Like how River Song didn’t get her abilities the way we were told.

It is said in the Bible that number 13 is a symbol of all governments that a man has created and that Satan has inspired....charlie burkett MUST become 14...The number 14 represents deliverance or salvation and is used twenty-two times in the Bible. The term "14th" is found 24 times in scriptures. The fourteenth day of the first month is the Passover, when God delivered the firstborn of Israel from death. Some 430 years earlier, on the night of the 14th day of the first month, God made two covenant promises to Abraham - one of the physical seed, Isaac, and his descendants, and one of the spiritual seed, Jesus Christ, and the sons of God who would come through Him, who would shine like the stars of heaven (Matthew 13:43). On the day portion of the 14th, God confirmed the promises with a special covenant sacrifice. "After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, 'Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.' But Abram said, 'Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?' . . . "And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 'This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.' Then He brought him outside and said, 'Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.' And He said to him, 'So shall your descendants be'" (Genesis 15:1 - 2, 4 - 5, NKJV).
So The Doctor regenerated into a bunch of different female and non-white forms then all of a sudden he just decides to go through a 13 streak run of white men?
9:52 I miss when the Cybermen were actually threatening villains. They used to be genuinely intimidating and menacing creatures, with just one being a genuine threat for an entire squadron of UNIT soldiers. They were excellent antagonists for the second, fifth, and tenth doctors, always finding a way to survive even in the unlikeliest of situations and in the most unique of ways. Even against Capaldi they still had an air of intimidation, a fierceness not easily matched. But they were absolutely ruined here, and it makes me genuinely sad. They used to be my favorite Dr. Who bad guys, now they just kinda suck
Nothing after capaldi was canon. He was finally laid to rest. No more screaming and more pain. He went into his tardis, laid down, and passed on peacefully in reflection of his former selves. He wakes in heaven, and is greeted by Clara, Amy, Rory, and all his companions that didnt make it. He is at peace. He's whole.
@@holyrolypoly The Teddybear-Metaphor is beyond Epic. It makes me sick though that some extreme People try to just randomly use our dislike of Wokeness to manipulate us now. H-ck, i even saw the Misusage of the phrase Go woke, Go broke, which means something that means ‚Stop politcizing everything, dammit’ has now been Politicized.
The worst part is that if instead of the Doctor, the Timeless Child was the Master, and the explorer Rassilon, this story would have worked beautifully. It would have given The Master a reason to be mad, it would have explained why he keeps coming back when many of his deaths have seemed so final and it would explain why Rassilon has unlimited regenerations (he limited everyone else's amount in order to gain control).
Yeah, the Timeless Child kinda ruined Doctor Who for me, I always saw the Doctor as a zero to hero. He was a nobody, like really he was just another timelord. Till one day he just decided to do some shit and he became a legend. I thought that was really inspiring, from a commoner to a legend. But well he is now the "reencarnation or continuation" of a incredible being. Geez how fun. Ps. Sorry for any mispelled english
Maybe it will turn out to be beautiful. Maybe the Master is lying on purpose, the Doctor is still the Doctor (well, kinda...), the Timeless Child is Romana (remember, she could regenerate on purpose into any form she wanted), and the Rani is disguising herself as that wanna-be FD (Fake-Doctor), working with the Master to confuse and torture the Doctor. And maybe they even remember that the Other (companion of Rassilon and Omega) was woven into the Doctor (was in a novel, but still better than the actual *censored*).
@@andnowawordfromoursponsors4439 I have no counter argument. I have said many times that I have no problem with a woman playing the Doctor, so long as they cast the right woman. Jodi was clearly the wrong woman for the roll.
My thought. Anything post Matt Smith is just a load of rubbish imo yes that includes Capaldi as well. Eccleston/Tennant was the golden age of the show, Smith was the dying embers that still entertained. Anything that came after isn't Doctor Who its just some drama uni grads trying to be entertaining/teachers/funny.
I don’t know. That one seemed like he was trying to make it sound sad, with the violin music in the background. I just felt it in the way he said it for this video.
Well, guy is a writer, so one of the few iconic Brit TV shows being turned to crap to satisfy the egos of a bunch of third rate, no talent hacks may actually hit a bit close to home.
As a female who grew up in the 80s, obsessed with Dr.Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, and Tolkien, that *teddy bear* metaphor hit me hard. I had a bear named Buffy that I've had since I was 5 years old. Buffy went everywhere and did everything with me - even watched Dr.Who with me. He was with me through all of my significant life changes and events. Everytime my family moved, Buffy went with me. Once, we were 40 miles into a cross-country move from Wisconsin to California and I began freaking out because I had forgotten Buffy. My father turned around and went all the way back for him. I finally found him, laying in the mud in the backyard, soaked from the rain - he had somehow fallen out of the treehouse where I had left him the day before - my dad said he probably "jumped" out when he saw the moving van leaving without him and was trying to chase us🤗💗. For 33 years Buffy was the one familiar constant in my life. From basic training when I joined the Army, to travels around the world, through college, marriage, divorce, 2nd marriage, and babies. Even as an adult I had Buffy there, in my room ... except when my stuffed-animal- obsessed toddler daughter would sometimes drag him around the house. But even now he was patient, enduring her sticky hands and wet kises; lovingly looking after her the way he had looked after me. By now he had lost an eye, his nose, and a good portion of his stuffing through a hole in his neck. But he was there - always; a loyal reminder of the little girl inside me; a silent companion who asborded and stored every dream, every secret, ever tear, every stain of my childhood in his increasingly matted fur, and who would always remember what time and age will eventually take from me. Then one tragic day, while we were away on vacation in 2016, an over-enthusiastic housekeeper mistook him for junk and threw him away. 😢 💔💔 Ironically, it was the same year that the first "Disney" Star Wars film came out, symbolizing the death of the Star Wars legacy. Thanks to Critical Drinker, i realize how tragically prophetic the timing of those two events was. *R.I.P Buffy.* Miss you, buddy. 🐻 ❤️😞
The bear comparison is so perfect. I WANT MY TEDDY BACK. I liked Hartnell to Capaldi, i mean ups and downs are normal in 50+ years, but overall a comfy watch experience. I absolutely hate Whittakers take on the doctor, imho it is weird fanfic, not cannon.
Don't, they will just mock you for wanting your teddy bear. Because that's weak and shameful. You are supposed to be vulnerable and weak, unless it's in a way that opposes the Progress, in which case they will gladly pile on and bully you worse than any 13 year old boys ever did and tell you to "be a man". Which means accepting everything they cram down your throat and totally cutting the past out (except the parts they want to lecture you about, those can't be forgotten for a moment but but never ever be mentioned unless it's them using them as a bludgeon on you. At any other time it's just far to painful to ever talk talk about and they wish people would stop constantly referring to the past and not allowing them to heal their trauma, etc, etc, etc).
My take on the end of Doctor Who: At the conclusion of ‘The Time of the Doctor,’ the 11th Doctor mistakenly thought that the Time Lords were granting him a completely new regeneration cycle. They weren’t. They granted him *one more* life to enable him to complete his work on Trenzalore and defeat the Daleks. During ‘Twice Upon A Time,’ the 12th Doctor is struggling with the decision of whether to regenerate or to refuse, unaware that this was his final incarnation. Ultimately, this decision is taken out of his hands. As he regenerates, the artron energy dissipates into the heart of the TARDIS. The Doctor has passed away. The TARDIS travels on and reconstitutes the Doctor’s personality and memories to create the being known in ‘The Day of the Doctor’ as ‘The Curator,’ an artificially generated being that is able to shape itself into different forms of the Doctor’s past faces (ie an older fourth doctor, maybe a younger first doctor, younger seventh doctor, older ninth doctor etc). It remains as a monument to the Doctor’s history and ensures that his work lives on.
I vaguely remember watching this, but at the point where I saw the “Doctor” was a little girl that was essentially tortured by a mad scientist to “discover” the secret of regeneration I must of gone into shock as I don’t remember the rest of the story. I do remember subscribing to a streaming service so I could rewatch the better written and acted stories from the last 50+ years of Doctor Who so I’m glad I found your review because I had just about convinced myself that this story didn’t exist and I had imagined it after eating and drinking excessively 🤪
You lucky soul, I watch this terrible series from the start, with hope that it would improve later but it didn't it just get worse, it just get WORSE!!!!!
"Mean Spirited" is such a good way to describe it. Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek. I'm not really a conspiracy person, but it feels like there is some shadowy Cabal at the center of all it. A group that doesn't seem to care at all about money, as long as the "agenda" gets forced down our throats.
A purposeful conspiracy would almost be the preferable option. But I think it's just plain old hubris and elitism with a dash of nepotism. You don't need a shadowy cabal calling the shots when everyone involved has already drunk the Kool-Aid and they exclude anyone who hasn't by demonizing them as various -ists and -isms based on a fundamentally flawed theory of human behavior.
Not the only franchise run by people that hate it, it applies to Terminator, ended at T2, with Star Wars nothing after episode 6 besides the Mandalorian, Star Trek Enterprise, at least we got the Orville carrying on the torch of hope and optimism that Star Trek represented.
That's what I should tell them after sending them a birthday cake which I've taken a shit in and reassuring them that it isn't ruined, I've just added a little something to it.
Remember when the cyber men were able to outsmart their enemies? Their entire premise is survival and intelligence and throughout the show they continue to survive through whatever means necessary and constantly outsmart everyone, including even the doctor at times. They also prove to be formidable opponents when fighting by using sabotage and, when there’s enough of them, an outright invasion. I will also admit that as the show calls for an easily defeated villain that the heroes can commit mass genocide against without people watching asking questions about the Doctor’s morality, the cyber men become the chosen villain. Like that one episode where an entire cyber fleet is destroyed by either captain Jack or Mickey, probably Jack because he’s invincible by that point.
Remember in Star Trek TNG when Data said that television didn't last much past the turn of the 21 century....well I think it's the beginning of that ending.
I'm fairly certain that when it was written, the writers assumed people would be more into the PBS style of entertainment. They still watch plays and attend classical concerts, after all. They couldn't have thought the reason why people lost interest in TV was because the shows became patronizing, rehashed sludge.
But didn't you see Picard? Apparently, TV makes a comeback in the 24th century along with poverty and class warfare. It's almost like the writers are talentless hacks who are incapable of writing anything other than lame soap operas with forced conflict and pointless melodrama.
@@SmallFries01 I guess they forgot about synthehol and the entire plot of 'The Undiscovered Country'. Either that or the writers skipped those Memory Alpha entries during their "research".

I was 4 years old when i first watcned dr who with the 4th tom baker and he was the best Dr by far...this show is finished there's no coming back for it they've killed it.
I've been watching "Doctor Who" since I was a small child in the early '80s (on PBS out of Dallas, Texas) and I have refused to engage in this season or this show anymore. I had enough during the first season of her run.
Same, after years of quality seasons that entertain and challenge the audience, now we have this show that uses the name of Doctor Who to bring in viewers but completely disregards what came before it. It has no respect for the fans or the previous seasons. It was a sad time when I made the decision to stop watching but I no longer have to watch them ruin my childhood memories. It’s ironic how people complained that Steven Moffat’s stories were too convoluted but now we have this garbage and I find my self wishing for the good old days.
This review is EPIC! And perfect! How did I just find it? Well done, well done Sir! I was laughing my arse off the whole time, especially during the initial analogy set up.

@@ericgrace9995 now that you mention it, I'm surprised they're "handles" weren't orange. Maybe we misjudged Chbnall. (Cut to scene of The Master revealing the Cyber Time Lords) then again....
Okay, so I’m clearly too late on this topic, but for good reason: I distanced myself from DW a long time ago, because I saw the warning signs coming from far away. I believe the last time I actually watched a full episode was the finale of Capaldi’s first season. Personally, he wasn’t my kind of Doctor, but not a horrible one; what troubled me was the beginning of “the message” creeping through, taking modern events and trying to be relevant to them, so much so that the Doctor started speaking not like the Doctor, but like a direct self insert for the showrunners’/writers’ societal leanings. (Also they ruined Clara after 11 departed, but that’s a different tale.) I distinctly remember an episode where 12 more or less broke the fourth wall and gave an impression of “if you don’t agree with my progressivism, you’re a hopeless caveman and you can screw right off.” Because the socio-political climate was all-consuming at the time and my anxiety was pushing its limits, I decided to gracefully bow out and do better things with my life than watch one of my favorite shows devolve into soapbox programming. Now, several years later, seeing how ABSOLUTELY disrespectful the showrunners were to the original canon (which was admittedly crackers from the start, but still had some Thou Shalt Nots like TCD pointed out) makes me downright upset. I want to scream that this can’t be canon, but being a storyteller myself, I must admit that whoever’s in legal rights of the show gets to define “canon.” As much as I would have been content with the Doctor being a dude, I wasn’t upset at the gender bend. If they made the Doctor a POC, well, if I knew it weren’t a big corporate money scheme of “look, we’re diverse! buy our merch!” I would find it a strange shift but also wouldn’t fight it so much as privately disagree with it. But THIS! Oh my gosh, THIS. Making the Doctor the start of the Time Lords? Completely ignoring canon and all previously known boundaries, that’s awful, but doing so in a way that gives the Doctor even MORE of an angsty Mary Sue god-complex than he(/she) already has? Taking away the foundation of his relatively “normal” beginnings, cheapening the simple but effective narrative of him being a student, a father, an adventurer, then turned into an unwilling soldier and eventually calcifying into a scarred and self-righteous survivor who desires good but often justifies his means with the end- in order to “one-up” his backstory and make him The One and Only of the Time Lords? Forgetting that also means the female POC One and Only (yay corporate shilling and not genuine desires for new aesthetics!), I’m just mad that they overcomplicated a backstory so much that it was the last Jenga piece to topple the whole tower. Actually just… super gross, man. I’m glad I left the show when I did.
My niece stayed a summer with me when she was 10. We binged classic Doctor Who and she fell in love with the show. She cried when Doctors Three, Four, and Five regenerated. She cheered at the end of “Genesis of the Daleks” when Davros was betrayed by his creations. Her first crush was Peter Davison, she adored him. Still does. It’s awful what they did as four years later it still hurts us both to see this show in shambles
AK K ok but….the question Doctor Who? Could already be answered. A man from gallifrey. We now know he didn’t come from gallifrey, he dropped out of the sky, through a portal, from god knows where. We don’t know where he’s from? How many lives he’s had, even what species he really is? This has literally made him/her even more mysterious and opened up even more questions. I don’t see how it’s done the opposite?
"experimented on the child by killing the child repeatedly and studying the regeneration"..... Too bad this is the exact story of the creation of Doomsday from The Death of Superman back in 1992.. Writer "you think anyone will notice this is the origin of Doomsday, the guy who killed Superman?" Producers" Nahhhhh it'll be fine...."
Ironically as I look at this I see a suggestion that says: Injustice 2, superman kills branianc, like even the google suggestions, atleast on my end, seems to have picked up on this.
It’s ridiculous how the story telling and characters of this show had the power to drive me to tears only 5 years ago because of how compelling it was. To see the series come to this is heartbreaking.
Seriously, you could feel his defeat at having to surrender a long treasured character and show. It how I felt when they rapidly used up all the remaining regenerations Matt Smith has left and just started giving endless regenerations. That move needlessly stole so much value from the character for me. That's when I walked as well.
We feel the same way he said it. I too grew up on Dr Who from a young age. Being in the US and watching Dr Who was a special kind for geek/nerd-ness. I loved watching that scifi, so different and unique. Now? Just fast food. Thankfully, I have my childhood memories of the real Dr Who.
Timeless child should have been the master. That would explain his mad rage against the Time Lords and how he keeps surviving when he should be dead so many times.
They could've retconned the 1996 movie and said that weird worm thing was actually the Master's species' true form, the one that regeneration was stolen from by the Time Lords. 🤷♂️
@@Polavianus I remember a one shot outing for the 8th Doctor Paul McGann where the Master attempted to steal the Dr's regenerations, but I'm willing to forgive a retcon that make the Master the Timeless Child, having infinite regens robs the audience of investment, there's no peril or suspense because the Dr is now immortal.
"The Timeless Children" is the Master screwing with the Doctor's head. If _Doctor Who_ ever has a competent showrunner again, that's the retcon they're using.
Russel T Davis is coming back. He brought the show back from the dead and was the show runner for seasons 1 to 4. Hopefully he can bring the show back from the dead again
@@hamzaayaz7482 I imagine RTD will probably work it into a future story, make it something related to the Master, whether a failed attempt to drive the Doctor mad, or the Master simply getting it mixed up and finding out that *he* is actually the Timeless Child. Either way, I can't imagine that RTD is just going to let this slide.
"Guess who the child is" I figured the Master on the assumption that being killed a bajillion times in a short span would probably drive you crazy, but I guess that's giving the writers too much credit.
On a more positive note, I have to say this incarnation of The Master is pretty good in my opinion. Sacha Dhawan is rather talented in portraying someone completely deranged. I think it fits.
I stopped watching the show back when the 12th Doctor ended. But watching this video it's so shit now.. can someone explain to me why the child/Doctor can heal infinitely? And why the Galifrayans are suddenly portrayed as one of the worst species out there

Wait but they already told us how the time lords came about. They were changed and evolved the ability to regenerate as a results of repeated exposure to the time vortex through a window into all of time and space that was on their planet. It is the same explanation for why River Song has human parents but has elements of time lord in her DNA. Because when her mother Amy was pregnant with her she was also a companion to the Doctor. River Song was exposed to the space and time continuum while her mother traveled in the Tardis. Even the Masters origins where tied to this. The Master went mad when the Time Lords forced him to look into the Time Vortex when he was a child. This is canon. Chibnall is just rewriting Doctor Who lore. At this point it’s no longer Doctor Who and I refuse to acknowledge these seasons as part of the Doctors timeline.
I think a bigger lore problem, if the doctor had more faces, why didnt we see them when Clara jumped into his time stream, or why didnt they help to freeze Galifrey into a portrait. And limited regenerations was something to give stakes to Doctor Who, he wasnt immortal, this gives the doctor infinite of those... How do you kill that, why fight that... How could the Daleks ever be close to win the time war, if their enemies are immortals.
Clara is spread across the Doctor's entire timeline. The fact that Clara has not appeared to 13 proves that she is not actually a part of that timeline. Also, Clara would've been there with the timeless child and she never would've put up with the bullshit of literally murdering a child dozens of not hundreds of times.
The thing that was special about the Doctor was that he *wasn't* special. He was a below-average timelord who went rogue. Edit: I would also like to point out that while having the Doctor able to regenerate endlessly gives DOCTOR WHO the possibility of endless seasons, it injures the story by making any self sacrifice nearly completely invalid as he is practically immortal.
@@sonnykingcomposer The regenerations given to him on Trenzalor are now all moot since it turns out he has an infinite number of them and always has. The "revelation" of The Timeless Child literally undermines all of Dr. Who.

RTD is the one who brought his friends (Moffat and Chibnall) to the series, who made Chibbers part of it, he is the one who celebrated the gender bending casting, adding in a female Doctor in the novelisation of Rose, he is the one who liked Whovian Feminism, the one who dismissed people like me and you as just being a few saddos writing in thousands of complaints about a female Doctor under different names. Whilst he may not have written the shitty timeless children stories himself, he was absolutely complicit in the downfall of DW. People obsess over RTD, but when you look at his era you'll find that most of the best stuff from it wasn't even written by him. Ah yes, DOCTOR WHO IS ALL ABOUT CHANGE!
Why is it even called "doctor who" now? "who" implies a sense of mystery but when you cheaply sell that mystery out with one episode, what's the point??
Drinker, you impeccable specimen of refined style and wit. This has cemented you in my opinion as one of the best reviewers on the platform. Your ability to pinpoint the flaws of a particular work, and expound on them eloquently is truly remarkable. Thank you for the work that you do.
The doctor impersonator era destroys sooooo many stories. River song is explained by being conceived in the tardis in the time vortex because that’s how time lords were created. Destroys the time of the doctor, destroys family of blood, belittles the entirety of the series and is purposely divisive. Chibnall should be ashamed
The beginning of this video to the 3:12 mark, has caused me great pain. I laughed so hard and shook my head yes so much, I feel that I'm recovering from an all night bender. The brilliance never ends with this man. Keep up the good work and I'll go away now.

Of course they destroyed the mystery of the character, they're pandering to a crowd that has the need to tell everyone about what they feel even when they go to the bathroom... What a sad state of affairs, really. When I was a kid I was a big fan of an 80's tv series that I supported economically and I'm still very fond of, but recently it has suffered retcons and remakes that include gender and personality changes to the point of being unrecognizable, just to seek for the approval of people who never liked or invested anything in it. So this implies that the Doctor has infinite regenerations despite having to be granted regenerations in Matt Smiths run, the doctor is now the original timelord which contradicts already established lore that says the Master and Doc grew up together, I want to deck Chibnall.
Now to be fair, the part about the Doctor and Master growing up together was addressed in the episode; the Doctor questions why she can remember them growing up and attending the academy together, to which the Master replies that those things DID still happen but just not in his/her first life. So when the "Division" cut him/her loose and erased all of his/her memories, they must've somehow forced him/her to regenerate back into a child's form (not all that far-fetched since Time Lords can regenerate between ages) who then grew up to become Hartnell.
I maintain this is the drinker's masterpiece: it's one thing for a Scotsman to mock Star Wars, Marvel and even Star Trek...but Dr. Who is something close to home, something too personal to be taken lightly. That sounds stupid.
Gonna need you to print out this comment and send it to those writers at BBC labeled, "a Guideline to the Doctor."
exactly and i loved with the 11th doctor we see that when he works hard to save races, he will always end up killing or erasing another and the episode that dives into that is one of my favorites, seeing such a complicated subject looked at because the doctor thought he was doing good and justice. hes not necessarily wrong like they accuse him of being in the star beast but they offer different perspectives on the subject and let the viewer know that there isn’t a right answer. in doctor who ive always seen most episodes as able to be taken as ‘there isnt always a right answer’

They could of honestly of found a way around simply by saying "there are some uncommon cases of time lords were lucky enough to have 13 regenerations and even rarer cases where time lords have gone past 13 regenerations but they become volatile, their regeneration can turn planets into stars if left unchecked, so it was common practise to kill them during mid regeneration after the 12th cycle." What annoys me is that Gallifrey is in a Time Lock, since they possess time travel they ensured no one could mess with their past. The Timeless Child annoys me because there’s no way to bring the Time Lords back. They’re gone now because apparently a race that held back the Daleks can all be killed by the Master on his own.
You'd think the Time Lords would have the Master under constant observation and be able to manage a lone sociopath.

But well he is now the "reencarnation or continuation" of a incredible being. Geez how fun.

The star wars rise of skywalker summing up almost had me welling up a bit
Ironically, it was the same year that the first "Disney" Star Wars film came out, symbolizing the death of the Star Wars legacy.
Thanks to Critical Drinker, i realize how tragically prophetic the timing of those two events was.

My take on the end of Doctor Who:
At the conclusion of ‘The Time of the Doctor,’ the 11th Doctor mistakenly thought that the Time Lords were granting him a completely new regeneration cycle.
This is brilliant. 🤩
I vaguely remember watching this, but at the point where I saw the “Doctor” was a little girl that was essentially tortured by a mad scientist to “discover” the secret of regeneration I must of gone into shock as I don’t remember the rest of the story. I do remember subscribing to a streaming service so I could rewatch the better written and acted stories from the last 50+ years of Doctor Who so

That teddybear analogy was oddly well worded and a good point
Remember in Star Trek TNG when Data said that television didn't last much past the turn of the 21 century....well I think it's the beginning of that ending.
I'm fairly certain that when it was written, the writers assumed people would be more into the PBS style of entertainment. They still watch plays and attend classical concerts, after all. They couldn't have thought the reason why people lost interest in TV was because the shows became patronizing, rehashed sludge.
The Eugenics war probably didn't help TV ratings.
But didn't you see Picard? Apparently, TV makes a comeback in the 24th century along with poverty and class warfare. It's almost like the writers are talentless hacks who are incapable of writing anything other than lame soap operas with forced conflict and pointless melodrama.

Still does. It’s ridiculous how the story telling and characters of this show had the power to drive me to tears only 5 years ago because of how compelling it was. To see the series come to this is heartbreaking.
That “go away now” was dejected instead of defiant. This was a sad farewell.

Agreed! He sounds genuinely sad.
Seriously, you could feel his defeat at having to surrender a long treasured character and show. It how I felt when they rapidly used up all the remaining regenerations Matt Smith has left and just started giving endless regenerations. That move needlessly stole so much value from the character for me. That's when I walked as well.
I noticed that too.

But that makes sense so wouldn't have happened. I used to love watching Dr who but I couldn't bear the jodi series.
Wasn't the Master run out of regeneration too and resorted to stealing bodies
They could've retconned the 1996 movie and said that weird worm thing was actually the Master's species' true form, the one that regeneration was stolen from by the Time Lords. 🤷♂️

On a more positive note, I have to say this incarnation of The Master is pretty good in my opinion. Sacha Dhawan is rather talented in portraying someone completely deranged. I think it fits.

Absolutely!!! Way to go Sherlock 789!!!👍👍👍
@@TuriGamer What Lore? Eh im so sad that the doctor who is dead
I don't even acknowledge this doctor
