Let me know what you think good or bad?
See you in the next one 👍😎
Hello all😂. I'm a 51yo single mom. Zero £ to spare, like everyone. No one I can ask for help (kids all work). So the lacquer that is swiftly peeling off my 15yo brum Brum, needs sorting before rust pays a visit. Your video has massively helped me. I'm hoping my car will go from lepresy to mild skin condition. Thanks to u hun, I'm gonna give it a go. I have brought 1 3inch Harris pain brush. They supposed to be tram line resistant. Roll on better weather n imma gonna do it🤞🤞. Bless you xxx
Hey good luck with that mate, all the very best to you 🙏🏻
600 then 1000 grit emery paper take all lose lacquer off then start with 600 and finish with 1000 and water clean off with white spirit then laquer. There will be a u tube vid on it.
You mite be better off using a small roller, instead of a brush.
If it helps, I use brushes to touch up cars as well. Even if you end up with brush marks, it'll still look better than peeling paint.
The hammerite doesn’t prevent rust this doesn’t work if you want to paint your car with a roller use a acrylic paint
Looks great and will protect it pretty well! When I was a youngster back in the early 1980's and first buying and driving cheap old cars, a friend of mine knew a local guy who was re-spraying cars for people, using ordinary decorating gloss and Matt paints. (Obviously he knew a lot about thinning to get the right consistency etc). They looked fantastic!! The great fun benefit was, they were really cheap to do compared with any proper respraying at a paint shop, and you could choose from thousands of colours!! He was really good at it and you could either do all the pre-spray prep yourself to save a few more quid, or he would do all that too, at a very reasonable cost. Any damage later on was pretty easy to re-touch and the final result was surprisingly durable. They could be over sprayed with lacquer if you wanted or just left. They would polish up with car polish to help protect them and it was wonderful to see an old but reliable runabout that had been sadly neglected, get a complete cosmetic makeover. Genius idea from a talented young guy who loved to spray cars! You could often spot his work around the area, simply because someone had gone for a really interesting paint colour that you knew was not available for a particular car! One young lady who has her car sprayed in a very loud pink, also decided to go over the whole car with giant pink glitter!! I don't know what she did to get it stuck on, but it looked amazing. It must have been impossible to wash and clean without ripping your hands to shreds or pulling all the glitter off! But who cared? It was a cheap fun thing to do to an old banger.😊
@@lawrencemartin1113 so wheres is your u tube vid on this would love to see the outcome perhaps a nice lilac?? 😁
I think it looks pretty good for what you did! Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day.
Absolutely brilliant 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it
Ignore the haters matey , just give it another coat, leave it a week or two to harden then wet and dry it down with 1200 grit and then run the buffer over it.
Prepare to be amazed.
Trust me
Totally agree mate put a few thick coats on then leave it a week or two to harden off properly then used electric sander to flat it off you'll get a decent finish with bit of hard work
@@quincy5855 totally worth doing though 👍🏻
@@nostreamavailable9090
Definitely
@@quincy5855 l think the negative comments from the haters just show a lack of understanding, a lack of respect and lack of imagination. That paint is basically oil based enamel in the same vein as rustoleum and tractor paint, it responds really well to being cut and buffed and being 2k clearcoated over.
The internet is teaming with rustoleum paint jobs that turn out really well.
I would have no qualms whatsoever in painting my vehicle with enamel although I'd probably spray it on.
@@nostreamavailable9090
Totally agree mate some hate on everything and anything and most of them probably never held a spanner
I have a 20 year old car. A Toyota Echo Hatchback. I painted it with little rollers too. It is almost the same colour as yours. I used International Harvester Red tractor paint I got at the Canadian Tire hardware store. It came out pretty good. Before I started, the clear coat was peeling everywhere. I wish I could send you pics of it. I did not have a garage to paint it in so I painted it in the parking lot behind the Walmart.
Great to see folks realising that a car is essentially a vehicle to transport you from A to B, whether thats through strife or common sense, i have a daily 2014 estate and two 25 year old k11 Micra's , so simplistic to work on and can't ever see myself purchasing a computer on wheels, good content mate 👍
I love k11 micras, they are like Japanese minis. if you ever decide you wanna do more than commute with one of them they are very capable of becoming fun little cars, stick an sr20 engine in it and youll have over 300bhp in a car that weighs less than 800kg you’ll make Porsche owners cry for a tenth of the money they spent on their car 😅
A former pizza-delivery car.... May be the first touch of love she ever had. Nice job.
Thanks I think you might be right 👍😎
Pizza driver here. The last car I had I kept going for 13 years it was 8 years old when I got it.
90k on the clock , but actually 190k as it ran out of digits.
Loads of work done on it.
The sub zero winter fried the efe (unobtainable )and the water pump wasn't thrilled with the 3rd timing belt.
Front disks pads and tyres and wipers every year. 10 50 full synthetic every year. Sils welded several times then replaced. Floor patched and interior hammerited (the stink) underside was stonechipped twice. A couple of door handles, the drivers seat resprung.(with a sheet of steel) front springs and shocks. Couple of sets of rear shoes and a set of drums, new rear pistons. 3 rear boxes, 2mid sections. 4 radios.new central locking controller. Radiator replaced twice. Recon gearbox and new alternator. 3or 4 batteries . 1wing mirror(vandalism not incompetence) new ignition switch , and rebuilt the barrel. New hand brake cables. And put brushes from an angle grinder on the blower. Front wheel bearing and the rears were done 3 times.
Please remember to tip.
Banganomics.....love it. I have just bought a Mk 7 fiesta 09 plate with 173k up it for 500 quid. I aim to get it to 250k miles with some tlc
Looks great!
Thanks!
Wow !!?
Hammerite ? It’s a sight better than before …. You’re giving me ideas, I’m gonna paint my car the same colour as my double garage doors when I park in front of it ….just for camouflage so no one nicks it ….😂
good job! the peugeot looks a lot more fresh
Good for you mate . What a difference .
I painted a few cars in my younger days . I got quite good at it . Best to thin the paint a bit. Tends to go on smoother . Great job though . Ignore haters . You did really well .
Looks great 👍
Fair play to you pal. Giving it a go. A bodyshop would have charged you plenty for that obviously with much better results but if your happy then that's all that matters.
Well done
I can't believe how well it turned out. I painted a car years ago with the old type hammerite hammered Finnish. It looked really good and in the sunshine it looked 2 tone ✌️ what an amazing job
You need to do the rims black 👍🏻🙂 I enjoyed the video coz you've sold me an idea. I recently bought a Hotchkiss jeep that needs to end up in WW2 green. I'd considered the expense of a spray job. But you know what? I'm not going to bother. I'm going to roller/brush it. More field authentic, more character and more mine. Great job. I've heard brush stroke marks are called patina. Thanks for proving a theory 👍🏻
I like it! Think I'll do the same thing and same color to my old Dodge pickup.
Brilliant 👌
I think the paint job will survive the rest of the car. 👍
I also think if you wanted to you could spend another afternoon wet sanding and polishing with great results.
Might have a go at that next week 🤙
@@rightenough4126 Second thought, if you decide to do that I'd start somewhere where it won't be seen with a small test piece to make sure the Hammerite doesn't do something unpredictable. Or do a test elsewhere if you have some paint left. And all that said , I'm actually that kind of a guy who would leave it as it is now. Who says cars need to be shiny... 😉
I love it.
I like it, just have a go and see what happens, its better than when you started.
Looks better than it did before!
I've done this on a few, I thinned it out and it flattens out better.
Great job👏👏👏
Fair play to ya mate may years ago I hand painted a mk2 fiesta with repaint that you could buy from a motor factors to tidy it up once you flatten down again buff it back up you will be amazed at the transformation and its just cost you time ❤
@rightenough ❤❤❤ awesome colour match and good job painting! (From a fellow hand painter of cars and of the woman's persuasion @ a mother of grown up kids)
Those Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 doesn't deserve much, same shiboxes. Thumbs up!
Brings a new meaning to the term ‘orange peel’ 😂. But way better than I thought
You did a nice job. The result would be better with a bit higher temperature conditions. Inside a garage or something like that. The colour is looking good. Going to use this paint with a roller on my old tractor...
Looks alright to me! Plus youve saved your self a shed load of money.
Cheers
About 45 years ago I brush painted my first car a 1964 Vauxhall Viva HA .
I painted the body below the chrome body strip.
I used proper coach paint, first time ever I had done a job like that and it looked brilliant.
Lasted well with no problems and saved a bit of money doing it myself.
Cheers.
How long did the paint stay on
Nice work i thought it would be bad but looks good well applied. Did you use masking tape on roof good result for 40 quid hammerite takes forever to dry
I did a Bedford van 30 years ago and it was a cheap fix and not too bad
If you are not looking for a perfect job then why not? At least as you say it is protected from rust. Well done 👏👏
I painted an old telephone box in the same colour. Has a really nice shine and very smooth
I think it's brilliant
40 years ago myself and big tam painted my Ford cortina a lovely shade of purple we used paint brushes it look fantastic but when it the rains came it washed off it was emulsion paint true story. But you're job is great 👍
I don’t know if modern cars are sprayed with water based paint. Back in my day, it was cellulose paint.
Great job!👏
Fair play
Genius
Have a safe trip 👏
Try avoiding re-rolling over the coat ... watched as you did it on the hood... paint already sticky by then. Looked alright though, even better at 60mph 😂
Fantastic work for a cheap car
Thank you 👍
Thank you 👍😎
My mate did this to his car and it was good shine and colour was great
Some years ago, my older brothers mate painted a mk3 Cortina with Hammerite. It was before they sold the 'smooth' stuff.
It looked ok in the dark from about 2 miles away. 😁👍
😂
They should have painted the MK3 with hammerite at the factory, they rusted like brake rotors
😂
i had my doubts but hay if it works it works nice job
Actually that is inspiring. It looks great, but also it’s about how it looks from 6 feet away, not up close, and cars always look better when it looks like someone is looking after them. Like it, good cheap repair that protects it 🎉
Looks alright to be fair not too bad a match either
We used to hand paint cars using a fine paint brush and Valspar enamel gloss, with a litle experience you cold get pretty good results, also we sometimes mixed the paint 50/50 with polyurathane varnish for the final coat, they really did shine. lol
Great Job!! 👍
Nice job!
Obviously this technique would not be advisable on a high value relatively new car.
However because this car is a low value, older, high mileage example, a professional respray would no doubt cost more than the value of the car.
With that in mind this unconventional re paint has certainly improved its appearance.
Well done, it must have taken a lot of patientence to roller paint most of the car.
Great video, I enjoyed watching it❤.
Interesting. :) I did this to a Cortina, years ago, using coach paint and it looked very passable and lasted till I scrapped it. I also once had a job with a small outfit where he'd rollered two Moskvich vans yellow, but had used household paint. :) Still looked ok - from a distance. :) They were only Moskvichs. :)
Glad you enjoyed found it interesting, these kind of jobs look ok from a distance 😀
Who says that cars must be sprayed. They don't. Nice job👍👍
Pretty, Pretty. ,Pretty good.
I did an Astra bonnet with a gloss roller, I compounded and polished after a fortnight, I couldn't believe how well it turned out. "Keep on Rollerin!"
Bang up job mate, looks like a million bucks. Cut and polish, it's a ten grand car easy...
I reckon if you thinned the paint down a little and used a short nap roller you'd get a very good finish.
Grand job reminds me of years ago my uncle had a imp it was black and he mixed blue gloss paint with petrol and paint the imp car blue turned out OK to
Is this an oil-based paint?
If so, the first layer of paint has to dry for at least 3 days, sometimes 4 to 5 days.
And then it has to be sanded with 180 or 200 grit before putting the second coat.
Otherwise the orange peel will occur (that is the air trapped between the layers of paint, which means the paint will start to crack and peel there soon.
That's good enough, but remember that this kind of paint isn't so strong as a real 'hammer' paint, so you should renew the paint from time to time. But it's much easier and cheaper than regular paintjob, I think that's not a problem.
I tried the same at the motorcycle tank, and the result was pretty good. I used brown color with golden glitter, I think you know this color. It's pretty widespread and commonly used for metal doors, safes, and so on. I achieved a rat look on a bike with a stable surface without a scam, such as obtaining real surface rust with a salty water solution. I think you may try to paint your car's hood and roof with the same color next time and get a fresh look, without that annoying color difference.
Top job!
The way to get old bangers to look better... About 2 years ago I painted my old banger with pva and instantly it looked 100% better, all for about R200 (about 10 pounds).
I hand brush painted a w reg cortina having replaced all 4 doors from a scrappy. Painted it light maroon. Lasted a few years until car was scrapped. Did it look pretty - no but was all the same colour. You cant see it from the inside
And the new car???? How bad was the old one??? Enjoyed the video and hope the car serves it's purpose!!👍
Had van roller painted with raptor paint (bed liner paint) and looks mint...some people like it some don't
I do like the raptor bed liner paint textured looks well 👍
This job itself turned out textured unintentionally 😄
but seemed quite expensive with import tax
Hi,for sure it looks better than before. You really should try what some people say, sand it with 1200 grid and give it a buff! Can't wait to see it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This is the equivalent of self-dentistry 😂 I painted my steel boat in 2013 with black hammerite and it lasted well, but the ingredients have changed since due to "green" laws.
You might have to repaint your car a couple of times per year
Looking good 👍 if you let that harden up & then T Cut it , it will come up like glass .
Its fine , nothing is perfect well done :)
I just bought a van and the guy I got it from sprayed the bottom half with atextured spray pain , by hand . It looks great.
That’s the style mate!
Well done mate👍✌️💜😊 - old school! Ive done similar myself. There are modern paints (on the mainland) that are designed for roller application and self level, no primer etc.
Were these Peugeot's one of Toyota Small Car Division's output?🤔🤔
Yes same as an Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1 👍😎
@@rightenough4126 I thought so, couldn't quite remember though, that's why it's coped with the abuse. Although we bought a Sirion, a few years back, it was from the era when TSD (Diahatsu) had outsourced some parts manufacturing to other lesser Pacific Rim countries (as did Mercedes et al) and it was not a good car and the CEO at Diahatsu imports? Less than a gentleman.
Better than I think
Looks lovely.... probably kick up a bit in the sunshine . Don't forget to wax it .
I think it looks great 👍 do the wheels with white hammerite too.
Looks alright to me gwork lad 🌞
If it works, why not? Nice job, a tip from me: don`t use a foam roller next time but a short hair roller for glossy paint. You will be amazed about the result.
Done that on a old ford in the 80s looked quite good
Got to love an Old Ford 👍😎
When using hammerite paint, put the paint on in one coat, if it's still the same as it was a few years ago it will chemically react if you use a second coat within six weeks it will go motley, one good coat and it will gleam with a smooth finish
Cool 👍
add some Flood Penetrol to the paint to remove the roller mark and then wet sanding, it should be all good.
That's fine on that car mate 😊
Might re paint my landrover defender as it's been rebuilt but can't afford a respray as it only goes of road and can easily repaint
That raptor paint looks good it has like a texture to it, can be more expensive tho 👍😎
Good on you mate, wont rust now.
As for the negative comments, who gives a sh*t what these clowns say,I suspect you dont..
Saved a fortune ,and it will do you a turn.
As long as it is safe to drive, that is all that matters, beats waiting for a bus!
Yeh I’m not bothered, cars a pile of poo 💩 anyway 😅
If people enjoy watching that’s all that matters
Minted brother 👌
Cheap as chips for a cheap runabout mate. It looks ok, you do you!
No point comparing this to a 2K spray job, but you might find it won't last very long. The main issue is Hammerite and such like metal paints, don't flex enough for car body panels. You really need the polymers in proper car paint to stop it cracking and crazing. You probably could have got away with fine sanding and a few lacquer coats. Interesting video though.
Love it, and I found watching this weirdly therapeutic
Glad you enjoyed it 👍😎
Great!
All we need now is a video where we can watch the paint dry. 😅
Coming soon! If you want it I’ll do it 😄
Brush painted my Audi with Valspar post box red years ago. Looked ok but did need to be waxed very regularly otherwise iy would soon go dull
Nice
Edit: 3 coats but how many flies?
when he says "Got red handed" I laughed....was thinking he got caught red handed LOL
Not bad for a cheap runneround. A complete respray from a workshop would be a hefty bill. 👍
Too many wouldnt for fear. Good on ya
Sound like a twang of Stokie 😊
Paint the wheels too 😃😃😃
I remember one of my first cars was a blue mg metro turbo £500 it was painted blue with a brush you could see the brush lines 😂
That's impressive. I used to re-paint my microcar and my friend's moped with a cheap compressor and pistol and your job turned out way better. You have way less of orange skin than i created lol. Did you buff and polish it after or left it be? The only thing you missed tho is that you didn't use the plastic primer on the bumpers before painting, so i'm afraid it's gonna start peeling off rather quickly. You always need to use the plastic primer for plastic so the paint sticks. Cheers mate.
I painted my Avenger with roller and matte black tractor paint ("cheap" from work) and my MKII Granada, with roller, in black eggshell
That’s a decent result for £40-£50. When it’s fully hardened, use some polishing compound on a sponge pad to flatten out the orange peel effect.👍
Ive painted my Daihatsu charade aura 4 times now by hand with a roller. People passing by laughed and some jeered a bit, just random remarks. Latest colour is maroon and it looks fine. Plan to wax it a.sap. The sun and torrential rain has polished the paint job to a shine (tropical country and no garage, car is parked "in weather" , no protection 😊)
