PS I've just come across and old gala programme with some more inforamtion. The music is by Syrinx and the choreographer was Norbert Vesak - Розваги
I had the opportunity to meet Evelyn Hart once years ago. She was one of the most pleasant, classiest people I ever had the pleasure to speak to.
Wow this is the original music!! I think this caught a collective consciousness vein even in the 1970s. R.I.P dear David. Nothing compares to U, dear Evelyn. In your primetime of your awakening, you were Canada's Diana.

Years ago, I had the pleasure of dancing for Norbert Vesak,in pieces he choreographed for several operas. He is an amazing talent, but this Pas de Deux is impeccably beautiful and remains, I believe, his signature work. Thank you posting and bringing to mind wonderful memories. Cheers!

David Peregrine died in a plane crash along with a friend of mine from Louisville Ballet. It was very sad. I love the Pas de Deux!
I should have known as a balletomane but I didn't know of David's sad fate- awful, as I watched this goose bump inducing performance I thought of how apt his last name was- but now it seems one of those creepy twists of fate...sorry about your friend too. Dancers of David's and Evelyn's calibre don't happen very often.
I saw it in Detroit in the late 70's. I could not breathe from the beauty.

I had the opportunity of performing this work in 2004 while i was dancing at the Florida Ballet in Jacksonville. The video I learned it from was of Evelyn Hart performing with the company. Thank you so much for posting this, it's brought back some good memories!
The music is called December Angel, composed by John MIlls-Cockell who also played the synthesizers.
There's a CD re-issue of Syrinx's first two LPs, plus previously unreleased pieces. December Angel is in this CD set in the version heard here and in a Solo version and a televised live version. Search for Tumblers from the Vault.
I saw Sylvester Campbell and Camille Izard. Dance this in Baltimore many years ago and I recall that they won a competition in Europe dancing this. It was exquisite very moving...
Was the award given to Campbell and Izard or Peregrine and Hart ?
just absolutely gorgeous. purity and clarity in aesthetic line and emotion. this is dance at its purest
FYI, the LP on which December Angel appeared was called Long-Lost Relatives, and it dates from 1970. It also included Tillicum, which was the theme song to Here Come the Seventies on the CBC. I don't think Syrinx's work has ever come out on CD, but it would certainly be nice if it did.

So sad. I was their Company Pianist at the time ... everyone was devastated and the loss still resonates. David was such a kind and down to earth person ...

WOW!!!! Just......WOW!!!!! I've never seen a pas de deux as beautiful as this! It is SO incredibly fluid from the perfectly pointed toes to the long line through the fingertips.

cant stop watching this. this is what i call neo classical ballet. what balanchine was famous for pure lines powerful and expanded movement and just enough emotin to keep the energy
These are Vaganova trained ballet dancers from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Canada. They are trained the polar opposite of the Balanchine dancers. Evelyn and David were the first pure product of the RWB school. She won the gold and he the bronze at this competition in Varna, 1980. They also awarded her a special certificate for greatest artistic achievement. Check out her and Rex Harrington in "Nuages" here on youtube. If you loved this, you'll love "Nuages" even more.
I don't know much about dance, but Hart and Peregrine must have been incredibly strong to have moved like that with such grace. Music is Syrinx, a trio from Toronto - early 70s. Synth, sax, and percussionist, here with a string section. December Angel, from Long Lost Relatives. A Moog or Arp making sound like a flock of sheep, who are frightened by the decent of the angel, as described by the melodic arpeggios. Search video: Syrinx & the Toronto Repertory Orchestra - "Ibistix".

@georgeou Sorry, i can't add much to the info I've already posted. I think the programme was just a weekly arts feature about events on in London. it was almost 30 years ago so the details are bit hazy by now!

Thank you for posting Belong, choreographed by Norbert Vesak, in your videos. My mentor, Salvatore Aiello, was the original male dancer in the piece. You might enjoy taking a peek at my channel and seeing his choreography and mine. Vesak was a mentor of his, making my work a third generation of sorts. I also danced several of Vesak's works.

Please leave this up as it is iconic to all aspiring dancers of the time including me. Unfortunately due to an accident in the studio my career was cut short but I will always be a dancer in my heart and I almost made it and no one can take that away from me I wish I had succeeded though at times. Anyway I put that aside does anyone know how I can get hold of this music. I live in the UK?

Beautiful...and I totally LOVE the throw into sitting in splits on his arms/chest kind of thing...
Only down thing, for me, was when he suddenly had this trick bit halfway through with few pirouettes and suddenly tour en l'air...the sudden technique rush just felt a bit unnecessary but otherwise I loved it. Thank you for posting! I want to learn this pdd :))
This choreography resembles so much Vinogradov’s Adam and Eve. Very different mood but terribly similar moves.
Does anyone know the exact music to this? Is there a place to buy this on DVD or even VHS? There's got to be a video archive for this with better source footage than "240P" and over-compressed UA-cam video. What TV show is this?
