Am I the only one that longs for more ballet like this? (actually like MANY of RWB originals i.e. Ecstasy of Rita Joe or The Shooting of Dan McGrew)? It seem like today we are overly obsessed with technique, we have morphed dancers from artists into athletes...and while this isn't necessarily ALL bad, one cannot be sacrificed for the other. Time and time again we have all heard : "classical ballet is a dying art form". and sadly that is the reality. The thing is-- IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE! Back in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s we say the explosion of classical ballet in pop culture. But this happened because 1. it was geared toward contemporary themes and melodrama and 2. new ballets were being created to show the classic technique while still being ENTERTAINING. And that is the key: People don't go to a ballet to see if each step is done perfectly or done better than before. They go to be entertained, to experience performance art, to be told a story!! If ballet continues to be an elitist art form, it WILL die. Today most people that buy tickets to the ballet are friends and family of the dancers, other dancers, former dancers, choreographers, etc. This will not sustain this art forms life force. Ballet, namely classical ballet, MUST find a way to appeal to the masses. this means more drama, more flare, more raw passion. More creativity BUT creativity that is tempered as to appeal to many vs. few.

I actually recorded the applause (I have no idea why I had a tape recorder with me), but it went on so long i accidentally stopped recording before it was over. I’ve never experienced such an audience reaction since then.

Bless you for posting- maybe it has been around for a bit BUT this astonishing, I am at a loss for words, I ADORE Evelyn - was just looking at a photo of her! Thanks, sigh, bliss, "how do you tell the dancer from the dance" My husband hears every night when we are reading (newspaper, her "final" performance article, swan song, sorry bad pun, used a bookmark) "Oh hon why can't I look like that!!!!! NO she isn't too thin, she's the epitome of ballet, she seems to literally float like the feathers she wears, light as gossamer wings and tulle, a hush.... Namaste re-watch time... WHY ISN'T THIS AVAILABLE ON DVD-

So cool! I'd have killed so see Evelyn Hart perform this. I've never seen a piece of dance that blew me away like Belong did.

I just though I would say what the music is:
December Angel, by Syrinx on their Lost Lost Relatives album. Published by True North Records about 1970.
