Wow! I just played my very first chords ever on an instrument! Thank you for what you do! This was so empowering. The lesson was very clear and well explained. Thank you for keeping it simple and short.
Thank you very much for your job. There are many people on UA-cam, (or IRL) who teaches guitar, but almost no one with mandolin. This channel is very unique, i`d say its`a treasure of a kind)
Thank you so much for keeping each lesson short; the new information is not so overwhelming. I must admit that while playing the chords, I felt like that awkward person in a first ballroom dance lesson - the one stepping on everyone’s feet and trying hard to watch what the good dancers were doing. I’ve always liked the mandolin. Today in an antique store I came upon one for $50. I eyeballed it and it didn’t have any cracks, so I impulse bought it. When I watched a video on how to tune it, I was surprised to find it was still very close to being in tune. I don’t know the story behind this cast away, but I’m going to learn how to play it.
I just inherited my granpas almost 100 year old mandolin. Gonna keep it for life! I think it will be easier to learn this instrument as I'm used to playing the acoustic guitar which share a lot of similar elements. Thanks for the lesson!
I’m a violinist who’s been wanting to try a strumming instrument for awhile. I have a guitar but it’s a little too complicated and Ukelele makes no sense at all to me... The mandolin is the closest strumming instrument to violin and this channel is the most informative one I’ve ever seen! Thanks!!
Im still working on getting a mandolin, i watch these videos so i know what i'll be going up against, so far it looks like a lot of fun, thanks for the great video.
I'm 16 and just getting into mandolin, and these lessons have been super awesome for me, and get me excited and motivated to play! Keep up the great work!
I just listened to your first lesson. thank you so much for it being to relax and showing us the best way to hold the mandolin. That is so important. and few teach that, at least from the lessons I have seen. I will be following you. I think it is a beautiful instrument and I always wanted to play one. I can not read music but will be watching every move. I feel like the turtle feels, slow but steady. Susan Retired social worker
This was the perfect intro lesson! In fact, I needed to see how you attached your strap and I can even see that clearly (like an acoustic guitar). Now I have a few chords to practice and learn to move my hand around - I'm so thrilled. I just opened mine out of the box, and you've given me the tools to start using it, but not too much info!
I love you!! Thank you so much! Can you do a beginner series and go much slower please! I’m so excited about my new hobby!!!! ❤I want to learn it and play for my family around a camp fire before summers over. We had 2 tragedies recently and wanted to do something to cheer everyone up.
MandoLessons... I like this name. Also, from what I've seen so far, I love what your doing. Keeping your lessons free helps players so much, as Mandolin isnt as common an instrument as guitar or bass. I'm starting by building my own so wish me luck
I got my Mums Mandolin when she passed away. She was loving learnig the mandolin after years of playing saxaphone and flute. I am going to give the Mandolin a go even though I did not inherit her musical abilities and have been told I am tone deaf.
Hey man. I have no need or want to play a mandolin, I've just been obsessed with them lately and I think they sound pretty. My grandmother's birthday was just a few weeks ago and I got her a non-musical mandolin, the one used to cut things. My Uncle Bill has this kind of mandolin.
Great, I will give you a try...Never played a Mandolin as I am a Guitar player...However, I am starting today as I just purchased an MK Legacy Dragonfly (electric/acoustic)...looks great and I really love the sound......hopefully, this is a good one....I am starting your lessons now.....:)
Hi, I just recently bought my mandolin and I am very excited to start playing. I love the mandolin so much because it has such a beautiful sound to it. One issue I have is, when I tried playing your first note, no matter what I did no matter how correct I held my fingers over the frets and the strings, it still wouldn’t sound correct. I’m kind of worried that I might not have bought a good brand. But it’s an Ibanez which apparently is a very popular brand among mandolin players. Maybe I just need more practice? That could be the case. But I’m just worried that no matter how well I tune this instrument, there’s probably something else wrong with it. Also, I love your videos keep making them please. You certainly know your stuff! 😊
Actually I am a Asian and we play mandolin a hole different way by playing each 2 strings seperatly to make notes but I like to learn to play in this way too but I have to change my tune and start all over again it could be painful but as u teach so nicely I will give it a try❤❤❤
As total string novice - I'm finding these most helpful. I liked your bar chord lesson for A (no one elsewhere explains what to do if your finger doesn't seem fat enough to cover 4 strings..& I'm still squelching), but I'm still just unable to get it. Also, I've noticed everyone (you too) leans the index finger towards the nut, which I'm finding counter-intuitive for reach with other fingers & frets. Is that to balance the finger pressures?
Love it! Thanks for making it concise and friendly. I play violin and uke, so I am excited to start this. My husband is buying me a mandolin for my birthday! :). Please keep making these videos! I'll be watching you...in a non-creepy way! :)
Your C chord needs a little work! hahah no last string ringing. But the info was very clear and I'm sure very helpful for people with no experience playing anything or a mandolin. Lesson 1 was great because that stuff isn't immediately obvious.
I'm really struggling to get that D Major. My index finger no matter how I seem to angle it keeps touching the D strings which then obviously cause them to just mute out. Anybody got tips for that?
Hi there! Great videos! I'm a ukulele player who is just starting out on the mandolin. I've noticed that unless I position my fingertips just right, it mutes the surrounding strings. Is that normal? Thanks!
Hand position is very important for all string instruments, from tiny ukes to my own instrument, the upright bass! Always try to *only* let your fingertips toutch the strings. Try to keep the fingers curved/ arched rather than flat and stiff
when i play a C chord my pointer finger skin gets in the way of my A string and my middle finger gets in the way of my E string and the E doesnt even pronounce and my A buzzes, ive tried every finger curling technique i could have but it just doesn't work what do i do
I have no idea how to tune mine and mine sounds super flat compared to yours. Great video though! I'll come back when I figure out what I'm doing wrong
Hi there.I'm from sri Lanka.I started to play the mandolin just yesterday.great video.great channel.keep it up.plz tell me the songs which can play with those 3chords
Certainly more nuanced than a guitar and certainly a bass, but your muscle memory gets used to it. The tuning however, is very conveniently just like a bass or guitar, but upside down, so the transition is mainly with the size and tightness of everything.
this lesson was very easy to follow, but my mandolin doesn't sound the same as yours. is it normal for the pitch to be different or do I need to adjust the strings?
Perfect length of a lesson. Not a lot of extra unnecessary talk. Keep them coming!!!!
Wow! I just played my very first chords ever on an instrument! Thank you for what you do! This was so empowering. The lesson was very clear and well explained. Thank you for keeping it simple and short.
I am so impressed with your lessons. Thank you for giving so freely of your time and expertise.
I have been looking for mandolin lessons for a while and this one is the best for beginners. Clear and concise explanation. Thanks!

You should see my excitement in successfully completing this lesson! Thank you! Looking forward to guru-ing!
As soon as i get my mandolino fixed i'm going ti follow your lessons.
I just inherited my granpas almost 100 year old mandolin. Gonna keep it for life! I think it will be easier to learn this instrument as I'm used to playing the acoustic guitar which share a lot of similar elements. Thanks for the lesson!
I got my fathers

Im too broke to buy a mandolin so I just tuned my uke to violin tuning.
Im still working on getting a mandolin, i watch these videos so i know what i'll be going up against, so far it looks like a lot of fun, thanks for the great video.

Ever since watching the super awesome cartoon, "My Knight and Me" I've been wanting a mandolin. I really like the timbre.
I just bought a mandolin to learn to play. This series is perfect! Thanks so much!!

A big thank you to enabling me to play musik on the mandoline in five minutes! The first chords sound enchanting! Anna 🌻
This was great! I can now properly play these chords and I’m very pleased!!
I enjoy your beginning videos. You are so clear and step by step with your instructions. Thanks.

Got my first mendolin today.. thanks for teaching! 😊
I got my Mums Mandolin when she passed away. She was loving learnig the mandolin after years of playing saxaphone and flute. I am going to give the Mandolin a go even though I did not inherit her musical abilities and have been told I am tone deaf.
Glad I found your channel. I've played guitar a long time, and am looking to explore the mandolin. Look forward to watching more of these
Short and sweet. Love this lesson.

Thank you. These are great!! Coming off of a guitar and some basic music theory. These lessons are super helpful. Great, easy 1,4,5 progression
One lesson and my fingertips hurt already! Hanging in there, though, and will stop by your Patreon account soon.
Really easy to follow. And not bullshit just let’s do it. I really love it. Following one video a day! Thanks! Good stuff!
Nice job. I have subscribed. Your videos are nice and easy to follow for a novice. Many thanks.

Thank you!
Better than the book I bought!
Great job ser
Nice and easy, thanks

Cool!
I am so bad at reaching D, my fingers are so stiff. Really good lesson! I need a lot of practice haha

Ooooooh getting that D major
Hi there.I'm from sri Lanka.I started to play the mandolin just yesterday.great video.great channel.keep it up.plz tell me the songs which can play with those 3chords
Thanks this helps alot
Really cool I am gonna have one next week s realy now about it .........carlo
Thank you sir!!!
Gonna be picking up my grandfathers mandolin tomorrow. Ive played guitar for 12 years and bass for 8. What do you think my biggest curveball will be?
This is helpful thank you so much
Tysm!!!
Thing about the Mandolin is, the strings are so close together. How do you keep from hitting the wrong one? That's what I would be afraid of.
Certainly more nuanced than a guitar and certainly a bass, but your muscle memory gets used to it. The tuning however, is very conveniently just like a bass or guitar, but upside down, so the transition is mainly with the size and tightness of everything.
Hope it works well for me
Already enough to play Rise by Eddie Vedder
You really helped me and I’m only nine years old
AWESOME! Thou Dost Rocketh!
I have always play mandolin.
What is a good brand of mandolin to get for beginners who want to get serious?
I am interested
Wow, crazy, so it's like the opposite of standard bass/guitar tuning. Standard guitar is from thickest to thinnest E A D G (B E).
For a Beginner, What brand of Mandolin would you suggest?
I never realized how perfect the Mandolin is for me, I could never play the guitar because everything is opposite!
What beginners mandolin would you recommend? I play guitar so am quite comfortable around stringed instruments.
this lesson was very easy to follow, but my mandolin doesn't sound the same as yours. is it normal for the pitch to be different or do I need to adjust the strings?
PS - do you answer/reply to our questions/comments?
That mandolin sounds awesome, can I ask which one it is? I play guitar and want to get into mandolins,BTW,thank you great video !
It looks like it is an Ellis A5 mandolin. Handbuilt i America and they are not cheep.
Great lesson. I guess I should buy a mandolin...
Thank you! Do you have a link to a download of cord/finger positions?
Mandolin is painful
My fingertips hate me
Ya they need some time
Do you have any suggestions for a starter mandolin?
How can I obtain such a beautiful Mandolin have played? Is it US made or of some other country? What would be it's price?
