Nice, thanks for that video Baron. It's very important for me to know these tunes. They are popular and welcoming to new people at sessions. Then, the sessions allow you to discover many tunes. Or other versions (you're so right in the video) of tunes you already know.

My local session has a lot more in D major/mixolydian: The Dublin Reel, Banish Misfortune, Toss the Feathers, Maid Behind the Bar, Rolling in the Ryegrass, Silver Spear. Glass of Beer also comes up a lot - I have trouble with all the triplets that are almost mandatory in that tune.

Nice! I'm considering getting a mandolin to add to my collection of instruments (guitars, ukuleles). I'm primarily interested in playing solo instrumental (no one wants to hear my singing). My favorite things to play are Celtic folk songs.

Just started learning on tenor banjo , your tabs are very helpful. Would love to hear more of your banjo playing, have you ever played Rocky road to Dublin , do you sing aswell?

Very nice. I've been playing chord melodies of popular recent music and have been wanting to branch out, this is PREFECT. Drowsy Maggie beckons loudly

Great, great picks! The butterfly, road to lisdoonvarna, swallowtail. Would love to see a video on "the pearl" by you! I know of it by Scottish group Silly Wizard, but it may be traditional.

Nice axe. I’m just learning mando but I’m already thinking of what to get when I progress far enough to justify the purchase of a good one. want an A-style made in the US, but the jury is out on round vs. f-hole. Irish jigs played well push me to the round hole.
Would love to hear you play Maggie’s Pancakes on this Ellis, but I suppose that’s Scottish.

@jonathanvaughan453 If Celtic is going to be your main music played I think that you definitely want an oval hole mandolin! 😊

@denfisher113 But Ashokan Farewell is an American tune written by Jay Unger in the late 1990s.😊

@Mandolin1944 totally get that but it always pops up in tune sessions round these parts. Jimmy Allan is a Northumbrian one but it always finds its way in too. Depends on your emphasis on the title - most popular IRISH SESSION tunes or most popular IRISH session tunes.

@@denfisher113 Yes, good distinction! reminds me of the arguement between a mandolin player and his girl friend. She: "You said no more mandolins"! He: I said NO!, MORE mandolins!
