- Meet K9 Hurricane and his partner Marshall Mirarchi. Hurricane is a retired Secret Service canine who spent his career protecting the White House and is quite possibly the most decorated working dog you'll ever have the opportunity to meet.
In 2014 K9 Hurricane protected the White House from a fence jumper and found himself in an all-out battle. Despite being outsized and outweighed, Hurricane drove the fence jumper back to the fence allowing Secret Service agents to apprehend and arrest the subject. Hurricane took a beating, but was ultimately successful. He has earned the Secret Service Order of Merit,
Homeland Security Medal of Valor, and the PDSA Order of Merit from British Parliament - the equivalent in the K9 world of being knighted.

I too was in tears over this story. Watching that dog fight that man off even though it was dark just really hit me hard for some reason. It's very rare that a video makes me a connection this strong. Thank you Hurricane and again I'll say I think every single dog going through training should have a vest included in training costs so they always leave with one no matter where they go. Keep those four legged members safe too
I'm literally crying watching him tell the story ab him taking down that bad guy. I can't imagine how Dad felt. Such a Loyal little angel. Nothing compares to a dogs love & loyalty.

They are not an old police car that you dump on the scrap yard. They need someone can keep them working, which is play to them. No work, play they get board. Like us old ppl. They just need to get a second chance to retire too

I cannot understand how our government could do that to these precious animals after they have served us for so many years that is ridiculous. We need to change that law. It’s not fair. These dogs deserve to rest in a loving home and not be taken to a kennel and killed.

The friendship between a K9 dog and their handler is so beautiful to watch, it is very powerful. I believe all K9 dogs should be able to retire in peace. My favorite Malinois is definitely a black one like Hurricane! What a gorgeous stunning dog. 💕
Thanks to organizations like Hurricane’s Heroes more and more dogs are being taken care of in retirement. Still lots to do, but things are going the right way!

I wish every working K9 had the bullet "proof" stab proof vests they deserve to have.... For every single one whether military or police. Hurricane is awesome, as all dogs are... I will donate when I am able... My son wants to be a police K9 handler, he's an Army veteran, and hopefully he gets to be.... Thank you all for your service to our great country!!!

In Canada, when a mountie gets a dog a retirement plan MUST be in place and a credit card goes with the dog for their entire life.
Yes, a police dog is NOT a disposable asset when retired. Bring an accountant out on ONE SHIFT of work, if that doesn't let him see retirement benefits, maybe a few pursuits wearing a bite suit may persuade them. Don't just count the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

This is the nicest story I've read on here in quite a while. Although I'm a gsd person, this black malinois is stunning and so is his handler. All service dogs, whether military or police, should be entitled to free medical care for their lifetime. God bless you both. You did good Hurricane.
If hurricane sits near you when you're on the toilet, he is a winner. Love dogs. They become family and you love them like a child.
I never even knew there was a specific branch of Secret Service dogs! Hurricane is such a good boy, you can tell how much he and his carer love each other, his little facial expressions as his 'dad' was talking are so sweet. Really glad to have learned their story, gives me a new level of appreciation for what these brave people and dogs go through to protect others. Wishing them both many happy years together!

Im at work at a Hospital Lab and started to ugly cry when he was retelling the guy beating Hurricane up. Being an animal lover, especially my dogs, my biggest fear is someone hurting them while they are protecting me. God bless you.

People just don't realize how badass these dogs are. I have a European working line purebred GSD, about 95 pounds of just incredible animal. I've often said my gain is the Navy Seal's loss- with absolutely NO training, this dog spends all day on sentinel duty watching the property and area for anything from a squirrel to people, won't let anything get close to me, and is absolutely fearless. Gunshot, fire trucks, police sirens, thunder- nothing even makes him flinch. We once had three pitbulls get out of their fence when we were out walking- he went after them SO ferociously they ran off... absolutely fearless. Best dog in the world...
@Michael Metzler Sorry, this may have been misunderstood- my dog was never a military animal, I raised him from a puppy- I was saying just from his gene pool that he would have made a great Navy Seal dog based on his innate behaviors. He comes from a breeding line that produced a lot of police and military dogs. He is just barely civilized- he loves me to death and to me is a big slobbery goofball- but anyone else comes near he tells them to go straight to hell, and makes it clear he would love to send them there if they don't immediately comply... have you ever seen a GSD put his paws on someone's shoulders, then just ROAR into their face from a foot away? 😳
Just be careful. Because if he feels he needs to protect you he may get put down. Set limits.

@@shibumi5210 if you can contact Ridgeside Canine llc. don't hesitate. You need to advocate for the safety of your dog always, it sounds like your dog needs boundaries and structured work for a high prey drive working line dog.

Absolutely understand everything he’s saying. My ol’ girl lived 13 years before she took her last breath in my arms. It was by far the hardest loss I’ve ever endured & I’ve had a LOT of loss in my life. It crushed me.
I didn’t think I could ever go through that again so I didn’t want another dog after her. However, my family, my two kids & our friends saw how lonely I was and just kept working at me. A few years after she passed they found me SammyJo-and there she was…on my computer screen and somehow, I just knew she was it. It was like Ol’ Denali girl was telling me “‘Ma, it’s okay. She’s it”. Which says something because Denali was always very possessive of me & didn’t like sharing me w/ other dogs so I always told myself, I could dare betray her. I thought she was going to be my one and only.
SammyJo will be a year old come April 4th. She is unstoppable. All she wants to do is learn, work for her treats or toys and chill with her momma. I actually did it…while she will never fill the hurt & pain caused by the loss of Denali…I did actually manage to make room for the incredible Miss SammyJo. She’s my best friend and only 10 months in…our bond is like glue made of steel that’s been melted & forged together. She’s just a little bad ass. Aside from thinking her 65 pound ass is a lap dog. 😂😂🙄🤷🏼♀️😝

My dog turns 10 next month, and he's got himself a serious cancer that's inoperable. Right now, he's on borrowed time, but he doesn't know that. He still acts like a puppy. Since he's an American Akita, my wife is all 'American Akita or no dog at all', and I agree with her. So, because we'll eventually be without a dog, I went looking for another American Akita puppy. What I found was a dead ringer for my dog. Looked identical to him when he was that age (8 weeks). Right down to the location, depth, size, and shape of the spots (American Akita come in 5 fur colors, White, Black, Fawn (brown and tan), Brindle (muddled black, brown, tan and white), and Pinto. Pinto is the one with the spots). As uncanny as it'd be to have a puppy that looks exactly like the dog I've already got, I think I'll try looking for a white one.
Your story is 2 years old, but I can't help but comment.
Hurricane took him down, got beat up bad, and just kept biting, going, biting, going until the guy was finally stopped!
I had never imagined, for a moment, that these K9's would ever get beaten up that badly! It broke my heart!
But seeing you two here today, together, and knowing the unbelievable bond you two have, really does make me so happy.

What a fantastic idea and thoughtful way to give back to Hurricane’s K9 brothers and sisters! He is no doubt a hero and of course a full on fur missile! I just switched my Amazon Smile Charity to Hurricane’s Hero’s. I will be asking my friends and family to do the same. Also sharing your story. It was meant to be that he was yours. It just was. How can you explain it except that it was just so right?!?! No animal who has served should ever be put down for money. Never ever! I would eat tree bark for the rest of my life before I did that. I have never put my animals down for money. Never. I’m blessed I am. I could not live in my skin. It’s not an option. I have had many animals in my life and when the vet comes in with those three papers … 1. It’s $30K 2. Euthanize 3. Surrender. My answer always is throw the last two options out get my fur baby into surgery and the money is at the front desk already. I’m lucky but I’m very aware that many are not. Helping dogs that have served should all have care for life. No question. I’m so glad I found your story….Hurricane’s Heroes. He is a very handsome dog and love’s that Kong! You have every reason to be so proud. With deep appreciation and thanks💕

My American Pitbull Terrier, Jasper, was never a working dog but easily could have been. I saw him lay it all on the line for me multiple times, and I would've done the same for him. When you spend every hour of every day for 13 years with a dog that's connected at the hip, you get to know exactly what they're thinking, and how they're going to act in every situation, and vise versa. You basically become each others whole world, and at some point, they're no longer a dog in your eyes....they literally become your best friend. I've endured alot of bad things in my life, but the absolute single worst experience was seeing my boy go through those doors, and the veterinarian bearing the worst news imaginable shortly after. It's an indescribable pain that no one understands, because they didn't share that bond. It really is like losing a child
Hurricane is an awesome Looking dog. I have nothing but respect for any working Dogs And all home dogs. I can imagine how Much you respect hurricane, And I feel the same emotionally When you talk about not having him around. Hopefully that won't come for a long time. My dog has a chew toy like the k9.for some reason we call it the rabbit. The rabbit is looked for every evening by our dog, Billy.because we fill it with treats .

Police dogs are willing to give their lives to protect. Why can't deadly force be used on a bad guy inflicting that amount of abuse on a dog a fellow officer
Great video.... Its good to know that Marshall and Hurricane have set up a charity for the health care of retired working dogs. A great story about two really inspirational heroes. It was hard to hear about how this guy had the dog and was throwing the dog over his shoulder and slamming him to the ground.... terrible.

I picture Hurricane while in duty,having his dog-phones (instead of headphones,get it?) on,and his theme song was 🎶Here i am,rock you like a Hurricane! 🎶🐕Hurricane is such a beautiful boy,always nice to see other breeds then the standard German Sheperds in action. (I love those German Sheperds,but i really love seeing K9 Units with other breeds too)
I soo can relate to Marshalls story about seeing Hurricane going to war with this guy,and that normally a dog taking you down like Hurricane did,would be the end of it. But there are those few who might be influenced by something,or they are mentally unstabile or whatever,wich ends up putting up this massive fight against a highly trained K9. (Shoot,even puts up a fight against multiple officers trying to get them to the ground) It really moved me to tears,hearing Hurricanes story through Marshalls own words. Then i instantly turned into a smile around 17:31 I bet Hurricane knows exactly what he was talking about.
Many says that you wont find anyone more loyal then a loving dog,they will protect you with theyr own life at risk,many dogs just do it on pure instinct without training. Like "nobody threatens my human family!" And even if they are hurt beyond words,theyr main focus seems to be having theyr own "dad/mom" give them recognition,approval and love for what they did.
If i had my life to live over again and choose a dif profession i would be a K9 handler. Im so fascinated with these dogs and the work that goes into them. Theyre so very impressive. ❤️

I admit it must be very hard to watch a dog getting beat up like that. Hurricane looks a lot like a Malinois/GSD cross. Unbelievably great dog no matter what his breeding is and lucky to have found a partner like Mr. Mirarchi. God bless them both.
