I have been searching for the perfect small controller for about 3 years and took a chance on this last week. I have to say it's the coolest little thing I've found so far. It's mapped to VDJ already and I was also easily able to map it to djay Pro. I dig the Kaoss pad effects (not all of them but a few are super dope). My argument for the Kaoss pad is, for me, I have trouble with software effects because once I boost the resonance on filters, for instance, I end up with audible clicking. I have a fast MBP so there's not much I can do. An add-on like the Kaoss pad negates that problem. My only major beef is that you can't assign the Kaoss pad effect to deck 1 or 2 -only the master out, which doesn't allow you to effect-out one track and drop the new one clean. I know you can do that in the standalone mixer mode but that's not where this thing is most likely going to ever be used by anyone. I really hope they make a second edition that cleans that massive oversight up. I would gladly buy a new version at full price. Still, as a little back-up controller with great sound quality, this is a keeper 100%. Peace from Akron, Ohio.

I have been wanting to buy a controller for a while now (but have no experience djing), I have the chance to pick this up for about $70 USD which I think is a really good deal, would you recommend I go for it as a beginner or pass?
As far as i can tell, you can use the Kaoss pad to control the Serato effects, which will record into Serato. But if you use the Kaoss pad effects on top of the master mix then that won't record.
this thing looks awesome! I am a producer and i want to do live 's with my own tracks and I kinda don't like normal dj'ing. it seems you can get a step further with the FX module (my other alternative is performing with the launchpad but this console seems more reasonable and fun). Nice review!
I am not sure what to think about this. Honestly, it reminds me of another DJ product that failed. The Stanton Scs3 I think it was called. Confusing lay out, packed with loads of features. So packed it was down right confusing and had similar limitations. Though this controller seems to be plagued with being even more poorly lit than the Stanton System.
So let me get this straight: YOU CAN NOT USE THE TYPICAL KORG KAOSS EFFECTS WHILE MIXING ON IT??? USING IT AS A DJ CONSOLE??? WTF?!?!!? THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF CREATING IT???????????????????????????????
I have got this b*tch and I cannot connect it to Serato DJ Lite. I have updated the software, I have driver but it does not just properly connect! I had same problems with Reloop DJ controller before and I started get distant to digital Djing guys. Sole disappointment...

If I remember it well, you forgot to mention that you can also apply the kaoss effects on top of the master mix in "Serato DJ mode" as well.
Yeah, I do mention that later on. It's cool to have both options when using Serato.

Just noticed you have a RedSound Cycloops in the background. I loved mine (still have the Soundbite Pro that replaced it!).

Great review. Really helpful, but I have one question. So you can't record the kaoss effects into Serrato.

I recently got one and when I have it plugged in, the display simply goes to "Stb" and it doesn't work. Help!
have you figured this out?
It will say Stb "Standby" until the computer has recognised it, only then it will disappear and light up ready to use
