    The 2-channel KAOSS Serato DJ Controller from Korg offers easy setup and portability. In this video review, we highlight the notable KAOSS effects pad, going through its full suite of available effects. Functioning as a great secondary Serato DJ controller or FX add-on to a club's setup/own external gear, the Korg KAOSS seems quite versatile. As demonstrated, the controller presents a steeper learning curve to fully utilize its possibilities. The accompanying full article review has more details.

    I have been searching for the perfect small controller for about 3 years and took a chance on this last week. I have to say it's the coolest little thing I've found so far. It's mapped to VDJ already and I was also easily able to map it to djay Pro. I dig the Kaoss pad effects (not all of them but a few are super dope). My argument for the Kaoss pad is, for me, I have trouble with software effects because once I boost the resonance on filters, for instance, I end up with audible clicking. I have a fast MBP so there's not much I can do. An add-on like the Kaoss pad negates that problem. My only major beef is that you can't assign the Kaoss pad effect to deck 1 or 2 -only the master out, which doesn't allow you to effect-out one track and drop the new one clean. I know you can do that in the standalone mixer mode but that's not where this thing is most likely going to ever be used by anyone. I really hope they make a second edition that cleans that massive oversight up. I would gladly buy a new version at full price. Still, as a little back-up controller with great sound quality, this is a keeper 100%. Peace from Akron, Ohio.

    My desk is full of MIDI controllers and I'm looking to begin DJing, this looks like a great idea to save a bit of space and coin.

    That cool with all the things you can do. I own a Numark em 260 with kaoss pad built in and it is great but I know the faders are normal meaning not for scratching. I am a mixing type Dj so that fine for right now.

    Bought this little wonder about 3 months ago, Im very happy with it so far. Only problem Ive had is that I use traktor DJ, and if I want to record a mix, the kaoss effects arent recorded. What I really like about the controller is that I can use the built in pad for effects instead of the ones in traktor, but as I said before, these arent recorded. I wanted to save a one hour little mix I did, you can imagine how suprised I was when I listened to it and there was no effects at all. Does this happen with serato too? Id love to know, cause if serato can record the kaoss fx, Ill have to transition to that program asap.

      It does not matter which software you use, KAOSS effects are routed only through the audio outputs on this, so there is no way for the controller to send it's audio back into your recording rig via it's USB. Now, on the other hand, you could take that audio signal from the KAOSS DJ output jack and then route it into a recording device and thus have the ability to record your mix. The reason behind why your computer doesn't record the KAOSS effects of your mix is because your computer does not have a KAOSS effects engine built into your DJ software, which means that 1) Korg would have to build a VST plug-in for it, and 2) your DJ software would have to act as a DAW and support third party plug-ins (like Ableton Live, Pro Tools, etc). Sorry for the bad news, but just figured I would at least answer your question.
      Happy mixing!

    A lot of the videos/articles on this item don't state of the Kaoss FX can be designated for only one track, instead of being a master fx. I'm currently trying to figure that out. It would suck to just be a master fx for djing transitions :(

    nice review! would you recommend it for a producer who has no previous DJ experience? I want to play my tracks live but I want to do something more than just DJ mixing as I am all about music experimentation. I was thinking of doing live performances with the launchpad but this seems a more reasonable solution.

      +Omen Ahead It's a great little controller that will help you play tracks live. You might look into a modular DJ setup for increased flexibility. Hi , sorry if I take advantage of your channel to ask you something about the Controller Korg Kaoss Dj, which you reviewed a while ago. I bought a few days ago, but I can not find Drivers or Mappings to use it with REKORDBOX, please help me find a solution, thank you so much and congratulations for your great work on the channel

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  6 років тому

      Not sure how you'd use this with Rekordbox as it's made for Serato. You'd probably have to map it yourself.

    • @haninn18
      @haninn18 6 років тому

      I tried to map it but it does not activate any command, but the controller is recognized by Rehordbox, in fact the name Korg Kaoss appears. In your opinion there are drivers to download? Thank you very much !

    hello Mr Digital DJ Tips, I been a long time regular tho I don't often comment, it is just a point of view curiosity,here's the question: products like the Apple Watch djing and now Korg Kaoss do you guys actually recognise them as actual equipment ?, or is it more of a situation where in order to you guys get a demo you guys must generate a video as of a "pay back" to the manufacture ?
    I don't mean any disrespect or sarcasm, no harm intended.
    Cheers!

      Elbowz No problem, no offence taken! We review anything we think modern digital DJs might be curious about. And no, more often, manufacturers send us stuff in the hope we'll review it (we have 0.5m readers a month, so it's worth their taking the chance). If we think our viewers/readers will be interested, we review it. We have a whole load of stuff here we'll never review because it isn't suitable for our readers.

    yo what happened? Full review is no longer on your site. 404. This product is 3 years old now I know, but it's still current and still being sold. Korg hasn't come out with anything newer.
    Actually all I wanted to know is whether the inputs can be switched between Phono and Line level - whether turntables or other things such as CDJs can be plugged in.

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  6 років тому

      Hey Jim, the full review's back (sorry for the hiccup!). And the inputs are only line level, no phono inputs here :)

    • @jimbosaurus4015
      @jimbosaurus4015 6 років тому

      @@digitaldjtipsthanks! yeah i finally found that out with a lot of digging. And one of the inputs is also used for the mic. Shame about that, it's so close to being just about everything i need. I would love a controller that is also a mixer usable with turntables that won't break the bank... The fx and kaoss pad usable with a mic is a huge attraction tho.

    is there a way to control which internal pad FX is selected via USB?

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  8 років тому

      +StickySprite I'm not sure if this is the question you're asking, but I'll try to answer it anyways, and see how I do :) The controller comes supplied with a USB cable, which you connect to your laptop for use with Serato DJ/Serato DJ Intro - from there you can control the internal pad FX. Let me know if that's what you were unsure of! :D

      ***** Yeah basically I was wondering if the kaoss effects (as in hardware/inbuilt sounds) can be controlled via midi from another devce. I use maschine and would like to run the audio out of maschine software into the kaoss dj.

    Hi, Do you think this controller would be suitable to DJ with Ableton Live? Cheers.

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  8 років тому +1

      +Rob E I believe it'd be alright- someone on the Serato forums mentioned they like to run audio into the KAOSS from Ableton while the controller is in standalone mode and use the KAOSS effects...then run the output back into Ableton if they want to record - more of a production tip, but I imagine it could be used for DJing in some capacity.

      Hey thanks for the reply. My main concern is the 'wheels'....set up for Serato by the looks of it and possibly redundant in Ableton (DJ side) Thanks again. R
