I remember watching AB back in 67,,I was 8 at the time,,my sister was a teenager had to watch it every Saturday morning,,and watching these people dance so cool back then and things were simple too..RIP my beautiful sister watching this on Saturday couldn't miss not one show,,we all had to watch it with her...crazy days and fun times then...

Spent 20 years performing tap , jazz, teaching swing and salsa with my wife and even 3 years at Chippendales. The last 25 I've been working as an accountant. The best part is I'm still good friends with Famous Hooks and Mick Tisherman , the man with the splits in couple #3
I was 16 and 17 in 1967, what a great time to be a teenager, it seemed the world was being developed just for us, music, clothing styles, muscle cars, bikini, mini skirts, surfing, drag racing, and a Land of a Thousand Dances.
In the current contest in the 2000s oh, and it is now 2020, they use the same music in the u.s. contest in the world contests. Are the dance to the new music. It is so fun to watch in this day and age.

Annie, this was when they moved the show to California and it was a fresh look for Bandstand. We loved the new dances, fashion and hairdos. They seemed so hip compared to East Coast kids lol No school uniforms like in the Philly days, these were Hollywood kids.:o)
@@annethomson4920 some of the music was great. Especially the Disco era. But, fashion was terrible. Plus home decorating. All the wood paneling, browns and shag carpeting. Ugh. Everyone was doing that early American stuff.
I'm a Philly Bandstand fan, but I will admit, the boy dancing in couple #4 is the best Cali dancer that I've seen in any of the videos that I've seen from there. Hope they won... never watched the show except in a few video clips, just out of curiosity, but I was never impressed with Cali dancing. This kid has SKILL!
Dancer #4’s name is Stan Sobern. He and his partner, Marcia Silverman were finalists in the contest, but they didn’t win. I posted a video on April 1st of the winners if you’re interested. My two older sisters and I would watch and dance to B&W tv in the 60s. Even though our dad finally bought a TV in about 67, most of the tv shows were still B&W. There was this show and a local dance show we'd watch.

Art Tafil, former Active Duty Marine Corps Captain and F4 Phantom fighter pilot. I know this because I lived it. 3 volunteer tours in Vietnam, 1966, 1967 and 1968. I watched the total degradation of American youth and society!

We had the Vietnam war, race riots, anti war demonstrations, campus riots, a draft, RFK killed, MLK killed, counter culture movements, the South was segregated, women couldn't get credit in their own name, & lots of other crap. I grew up in the '60's & '70's I can remember that it was a very violent and tumultuous time in history.
Great clip. Very nostalgic. Wish I could dance like that now (not a chance!). They were all good dancers, but couples #1 & #4 advanced to the finals (two selections over three weeks). Both pairs lost out in the finals. Sadly, the #4 girl (Marcia Silverman) passed away in 2008.
STAN SOBURN Sorry, I do not have any details on her death other than Marcia (Silverman) Beamish died on December 31, 2008, just a few days after her 60th birthday. She was buried in Mount Sinai Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, California. I thought you both were great in the dance contest.

Oh what memories! I was 12 in 1967. My mom, sister and I loved AB and would always have our favorites for the dance contest. #4 can really swing. The girl in couple #3 needed to stop watching her feet. 😊 Loved #1 too. I dont think anyone from this group won the final contest, did they?

I think couple 2 was best. .the camera was only focusing on couple 4 and 1 But if you watch couple 2...they were getting down with it...I miss those days. .use to watch bandstand and dance in my room..wishing I was on the show dancing. .sigh!!!!
The girl dancer 4 was not all that great. the guy was too good for her. Couple 1 was better. The guy 4 was too aggressive pulling the girl around- she was too weak dancing.

The 60's were (British Invasion; Beatles; social liberation; love in's; long hair & hippies) (mostly mid to late 60's) The 60's were (not at ALL) the 50's. Thats when dancing separately became "the" thing. The dancing on Bandstand was a bit behind in times, because DC tried to tone things down and had rules to get onto the show.
Sorry guys, I think couple #1 has it. At 3:23 they are really starting to get their groove on. Their dance is in sync with each of them giving the same amount of effort. #4 is good too but its the male who is dominating the dance moves.
It would appear that the black couple was brought in as a modest way of breaking the color barrier- in many shots but always in the background, and not even really trying to compete. Fascinating stuff.

well, i watched all the vids and i thought #3 was the best - - with 1 following - But couple #3 were the 'smoothest" in their movements . I used to watch this - and i've been a dancer all my life - including swing, jazz, ballet, celt, etc

How many of these guys ended up in Vietnam. I graduated from High School in June 1967. I was in Vietnam the following year.

well, i watched all the vids and i thought #3 was the best - - with 1 following - But couple #3 were the 'smoothest" in their movements . I used to watch this - and i've been a dancer all my life - including swing, jazz, ballet, celt, etc
Teens didn't dance like that by 1967. We never touched on the fast songs . . . but, on the SLOW songs - Whoa, Doctor!
