….In sports news, tomorrow (Dec. 31st) the Green Bay Packers will defeat the Dallas Cowboys 21-17 to win the NFL (now the NFC) Championship in what will become known as “The Ice Bowl”. To this day, it is the coldest game in NFL history with the kickoff temperature of only -13F and a windchill of -36F. The Packers will go on to beat the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl II.
That’s my mom, Judi at the beginning when they’re showing who’s come to join them for the New Years Eve episode. She’s the second person they show. She was on the show from 67-68.
@tboling how cool to see your comment about your mom. Great times for sure!

I’ve always loved that Supremes song, too. 😍
The move that couple #4 Famous Hooks and Jenny Nichols do 6:26 in the video do IS OUT OF THIS WORLD 🌎‼️ The Best Dance Moves I've Ever Seen In My LIFE ‼️
I'm a close friend of Famous Hooks, and he's a great guy.
@@patricking6512 Oh how fortunate you are. I've had the "BIGGEST CRUSH" on Famous Hooks since I was 8 & 9 years old. I'm days away from 65 now and would love to meet him. At least see him do this dance again. I've NEVER SEEN anything like it before or since. ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING 🕺🏾 😘❤️‼️
@@annahshoffner1871 I first met Famous in 1967 at a huge dance pavilion called Harmony Park in Anaheim, California, where all the teens went each week to meet others and dance. I was there with my buddy, and we both hit it off with Famous right away. So, he asked us if we would like to dance on American Bandstand, and of course we said YES, and make sure you bring a date! We've stayed friends and kept in touch all these years. We were supposed to meet up with him in LA, last year on a trip that my wife & I were taking down to southern California, but at the last minute he wasn't able to make it, so we'll try again this year when my wife & I head that way for my high school reunion. Let's hope it works out this time. Sorry to ramble on like this, but all in all, Famous is a dear friend, and great guy!
@@annahshoffner1871 I'm 74 now, and was 18 when I did these shows back in 1967-68, and I never get tired of watching them. Famous is a dear friend, and we still stay in touch with each other. Did you know that Famous & Jenny won that dance contest, you can watch it on another video somewhere on UA-cam?
OMG can you believe it were now Seniors and reliving those day gone bye lol !!! Hard to believe huh ?
Sad as well.
My childhood memories, always loved the dance contests, even with the problems it seemed like a much more innocent time back then.
The girl who wishes "more miniskirts" for the new year 😍
We got them 💗🌙☀️🤠😎💙
Miniskirts that is ....
I have her video on youtube
I was 8 and living in Fresno California when this aired. I wish I had been older to appreciate it. Big Supremes fan!
I was on this show and loved it, great times. You mentioned Fresno, that's where I live now, well, just south of Fresno in Sanger, and have been here since 1978.
Ok, jumping right in cuz I'm so late on this:
Couple #4: my fave, not just because I'm a fan of Famous, but they moved with so much ease & afterthought. What I mean is they treated this as an "all in a day" kind of thing, which I loved. It also looked like they were doing The Hustle.
Couple #1: those spins with the long hair reminds me of disco era Spotlight Dance segments, which made them look ahead of their time, which someone else pointed out in the comments here.
Couple #2: loved how they started out with their rehearsed routine. I don't think the kids were really doing that around that time so much.
Now that song by The Supremes never felt like a song to dance to, even though it's an uptempo track. But now seeing that you could, it makes since. Such a pleasant song, but can hear why it wasn't a number 1 smash for them.
Spending my evening with Aaron & the crew, this was great! I enjoy this era of AB, it's like the turning point where you see & hear all the changes!
Hi Kevin, great to see you around again! Great comments as usual. I agree, I didn’t think of this song as a strong choice for a dance contest, but here we are, and it’s actually pretty good after several viewings.
I enjoy the crazy transitions slowly happening around this time too. I wonder what these kids would think of the new set and wild fashions in just 2 years from now or the huge lavished set and even wilder fashions in about 7 years at the start of the disco era. So much change happening in such a short time.
Yes I like 4 and 2 and 3.

Guys look at my comment above this one. Jennifer Nichols(Famous'd dance mate) sent me a msg.
Thruthealcove KC
Agreed "all in a day" thing w/Famous & Jennifer & ur comments on the other 2couples. Jennifer Nichols, Famous Hooks', dance partner, was nice enough to reply to my comment. Look up just above urs. Yep this 1968 AB is such a nostalgic, almost to the 70s break thru, kind of thing.
Not in the dance contest, but, I was on this show, back in the good ol' days! Great Memories!
#4 Famous Hooks & Jennie Nickels.
Hello. I am that girl dancing with Famous, Jenny Nichols, and yes we won 2 cars. Will never forget...
jennifer nichols
Wow, are u really? Famous & u guys are legend. Know Is he ok? I rembr his name all these yrs. I was voting for u & he to win, in this comment😊. I didn't know who won it. Happy u guys won. Thx so much, Jennifer.
@@TheRankin42 I can see why you and Famous won because both of you were really good! How long did you dance on AB?
@@TheRankin42 You and Famous moved with such beauty. I hope life has treated you well 👍
Some of the couples looked more like they were doing disco moves several years ahead of it time. All of them looked great on the dance floor.
YesDefinitely doing some Disco moves before it’s time!
Exactly
Couple 2, 3 and 4 danced good
Yes, I was surprised. They danced very well
without any doubt i give it to the couples
#1 #2 and #4
they were the best!
i could go into more details on why i chose them but it’s 4:52am and my brain is not working so well at this time.
wow, the talent! i’m so jealous!
Yes, #1 got my vote.
The good Old Days ❤💙🎶🎵🎶💜🇺🇸🌙🕐😎
I danced at the Marconi dance studio in Montréal, Q.C. for the show "Like Young" in the late sixties. There were famous Québécois / Québécoise music célébrités who lipsinced to a live audience of dance contestants. We were selected from lineups but no razzle dazzle prizes. It was very exciting for young fashionistas !
I was on this show, but not in the Dance Contest!
@Patrick That's great, how many times did you dance on AB?
@@oldiesgeek454 I did 8 shows, and I wish that I had done a lot more, because I loved being with these people, and it was so much fun. I was even chosen to do Rate-A-Record with Dick Clark, he was a great guy, and loved all the kids! I still keep in touch with some of the dancers. The reason that I didn't do anymore shows was because I had my own band, and we were very busy in the 60's playing for dances, etc. Thank you for your comment!
@@patricking6512 You're welcome, and thanks for sharing your experience.
@@oldiesgeek454 Back when times were simple and fun, I really miss those days!

I would had voted for couple Number 2. Those spins were cool to watch
Such awesome laid back times. I loved it.
Love my Supremes. Love the AB dance contests. Love all the videos. Great music then, not so good music nowadays.
I second it! Although, there's good stuff with today's music but you have to dig through the garbage to get to it. 😂
@@AdrianDeVore I agree with you.
Let’s see..if I was voting, I would have Famous and June first and then the couple in the middle...another awesome clip Aaron..
Thank you Gayle Lecus and I’d have to agree with your choice as well.
Exactly!!!
4 was the best I really love the way they danced
Yes I grew up with my mom and grandma. Loved the Supremes I love couple with the spins couldn't see there number and I loved couple 4.I wonder where are they today. Who did they marry children. I just wonder.
Hello Charisma, yes that is me Jenny Nichols-Cohen dancing with Famous. Such good memories watching these videos.
@@TheRankin42 i love watching the two of you dance in these videos. So joyful!
Elegant...Sophisticated......Lovin' this! Couples 2 and 4!
Oh I loved watching this part of the episode on Dailymotion. Thanks for the upload.
Such a Great song!
couple #4.....
Cpl 4 all the way, they've got great fluid movements
Couples 4,2,3,1 in that order.
I could have watched that dance contest for another half hour. They were such good dancers!
Couples #2!! Definitely! And definitely one of my favorite Supremes, featuring The Andantes, song of the later years.
No Andantees Only The Supremes Really People Get Real, I Knew Mary Wilson RIP Founding Member Of The Supremes Personally Over The Years Til Her Passing We Hungout Etc
Aaron you are super👋👋👋
The days before the uncertainties of 1968
Couple # 4 was real good
They won Regular Famous Hooks and Jenny Nichols - Couple#4
This is a B&W kinescope (the series went to color in the Fall of '67).
Thank you Aaron another good selection! I had the album this song was on. Seems like it was the last song on the album. I really enjoyed the Supremes in their earlier days. Interesting variety of dancers. Not sure what style some of them are working on, but Rock On
babies!
Hey Jean -- The Supremes and Diana Ross have remained my favorites of all time. "In and Out of Love" was on the LP "Reflections", Side 1 Track 5. The 45 vocals were recorded June through July 1967, and included Florence Ballard on vocals. Florence was fired during this period and the backup group, The Andantes, overdubbed the vocals. The 45 was released 10-25-67.
@@dancerdon9175Interesting info there. "Reflections" is one of my all-time favorite Supremes songs, "In and Out of Love" just OK in comparison. Based on chart performance many others apparently agreed.
@@dancerdon9175
My friends and I would mimic their moves. Remember STOP 🤚 In The Name of Love? We'd put one hand on our hip and throw the other hand and arm out like a deranged traffic cop, bopping up and down while lip synching the song. Wow.....and we were good!!! Hahaha!!!
@@thefirstMrsLankton WINK
@@keithidota wasn't Reflections the theme song to a Vietnam age TV show called "China Beach"?
Don't know why that song wasn't a bigger hit.
OMG can't believe I ran acrossed this video. #3 was my brother in law. We were all in high school back then.
Hard tune to dance to. My vote is # 4 with those slick moves. Hard to do just @ the right time. As we know dancing is all about timing ppl 🚗
I had the same thing. What an unusual song to choose for a dance competition. Not really a dance tune.
And I was there!!!!
Cool prizes!
I lived in LA in 68
Hung out on the strip
I think that couple 1 and couple 2 were the best
They could really dance
THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU AARON for posting this clip. I KNEW that "In and Out of Love" was the song used for the dance contest, despite debate from others. No way to prove it until today :--).
Couple 5 is "Snook" DeCessio dancing with Mike Langham .
Thank you, thank you , thank you Don....I listened to that name dozens of times. I don’t think I ever would’ve got Snook Decessio. I’m giving you a raise, lol.
I wonder if Robin Morris got any colds in ‘68? :)
@@YCDTIAaron, funny you say that about Robin. To this day she is prone to upper respiratory colds.
Well I think we should all just try and stay out of trouble. Right.
@@thefirstMrsLankton LOL
Besides them dancing to Windy later in the show, was "In and Out of Love" the only song they danced to throughout the contest? The song seems a little mild for a dance contest song IMO. I think popular late-1967 hits "Get On Up", "Higher & Higher" or "Apples Peaches Pumpkin Pie" might have worked better. And what were the others debating?
Awww...poor Didi DelCampos...#8...she was in an earlier contest with another guy...she held hands with HIM and danced up a storm....but with THIS boy...no touching at all...I think she knew no Volkswagen or record player this time around...lol
Brush my teeth three times a day 🤣🤣🤣
8 was doing something IV never seen befor .
Send my post card for couple #4. Famous great dancer
4!!
My first comment of 2019. After first watching this clip I went back into this channel's archives and found that sure enough they were dancing to Windy later that same show. I commented there that it was hard to follow each couple and that I barely caught couple #6. Turns out I didn't see them at all since they weren't even there. Yup, this happens when clips are played in reverse order. Couple #5 looked a little lost here and couple #8 looked like they were dancing solo halfway across the room from each other. And yuk to the VW, I would have rather won the trip to Finland (the '69 contest) than that ugly-looking thing.
Hmmm, if I were a teenager I’d still want the car, even if it was a VW Beetle. I grew up riding in one my parents bought in ‘69. At least it was pretty reliable. Good to see you back commenting again Keith Idota!
@@YCDTI Yeah I was a little spoiled as a teenager, as were most of the people I went to school with. I would never put down anybody who owned a VW though I would not brag about owning one either. But winning one on national TV doesn't sound appealing.
@@keithidota oh perish the thought!! 😀😄😉
Number 4 for 1st place
ya the good old days '''
Mike Langham was beautiful
When girls wore dresses and skirts - jeans came after in the 70’s
I danced on bandstand for two years. I have not seen any pictures of me dancing on Ed in 1956. I danced when bob horn andlee Stewart were djs, it was a lot off FunN. , we all bigot along fine then,
I always liked Famous

I had a '68 VW bug but I didn't win it!
I figured one girl would say...Not get Pregnant.....lol
Now what 15, 16 year old girl is going to ride that bike (?????)🤔
I would enter for The Typewriter Alone. Royal never had the same "Steam" that Olivetti, Smith Corona, or any of The Typewriters that the Chick Lit Writers worked on. Also this was one of the first Songs that Florence Ballard did not sing on since she got Fired earlier that year. Also, Mary Wilson & Cindy Birdsong never sang on any Supremes Sessions instead they used The Andantes (Motown's Official Backing Vocal Group).
I still have my Olivetti typewriter because one of my late Aunts gave it to me as a high school graduation present!
This was actually the last Supremes single on which Florence sings (plus, yes, sweetened by the addition of The Andantes’ along with also Mary’s backing vocals), although released after she was no longer in the group. Replacement Cindy and Mary continued appearing on some Supremes album cuts and on the group’s singles with The Tempts, but also were replaced on later singles not just by Andantes but, as on their last Diana-led single “Someday,” actually by The Waters Sisters and Merry Clayton. Love this single and watching the kids dance/swing to it. 😎👍
I thought couple 2 was best. And a tie for couple 1, 3 and 4 !
Couple #2
Ruby Dake and Eddie Sanchez
Couple 4
2 and 1....
Now, my question is what happened to couples 6 and 9? Great clip by the way.
Thank you Andrew Haberman and great question. They picked a bad day to not show up. Oh well
@@YCDTI They were probably eliminated in the earlier stages.
@@AdrianDeVore
So then why was DC looking for them?
@@thefirstMrsLankton Maybe to buy more air time...Lol...
@@AdrianDeVore 😀
My vote would have gone to couple number 5. Do you have the episode with the results?
Number 4 won
I'm not sure a VW Beatle qualifies as a "sedan."
Lol, I thought the same thing.
It was even described as a 'deluxe sedan' lol. However I have to say I loved the car. Possibly because the girl I was dating drove a red one, and I fell in love with the girl, and her car. Not many girls (or guys for that matter) knew how to drive stick shift, so I thought she was super cool into the bargain.
I wonder how many of those young men ended up in Vietnam.
What's couple #doing that move she has
Who won?
Cheryl Buell - Couple #4 won Regular Famous Hooks and Jenny Nichols !!! THEY WERE AWESOME!!!
So who won! :(
Never mind I saw the next video. Silly me!
