I see a ton of comments about the vinegar, it gets off general debris, but the real key is that it attacks deep stains like salt stains or food/beverage stains. As long as you follow it up with a proper routine of saddle soap, conditioner & polish, there won't be any vinegar smell at all!

Why did you put white vinegar on the shoes first?
To get off general debris and get out deep stains, like the salt they put down during winter can stain leather shoes, or whatever else may be stained into the leather.
