  • There are so many different types of blades, it's easy to get lost for beginner woodworkers. In this video, we take a quick look at several different blades and run them through the scrollsaw to see what works well with different factors:
    Wood Type
    Wood Thickness and Density
    Newness (sharpness) of the blades
This should be the first video you watch when deciding what type of blade to use for your project. But remember, it's a process. It's okay to take your time and learn for yourself.

What is your favorite blade to use for 3/4 walnut?

Hmm easier hardwood to cut compared to others. Most likely a Olson Reverse Tooth 7R 11.5 TPI

I have a Woodcraft close to my house. Prices can be a little high but I like going in to see what tool I want to buy next lol. For birch plywood you can go with Amazon as I have seen some good bundles

Also just realized I didn’t answer your whole question I am in the Midwest. Where do you go to get your wood?

Hi...I just subscribed to your channel. I like your common sense approach. I have been scrolling about 15 years It becomes a passion as you well know. I am currently working on my third and final, I hope, chess set. I use Pegas modified geometry blades. I have many sizes and manufacturers of blades in my arsenal. You mentioned using a #2 blade. I have not seen them. Can you tell me please where you got them. At times when scrolling, I wonder if there is something between #1 and #3. A #2 would be great. I use a 6 year old Excalibur 16" which I really like. I'm glad I found your channel. Keep putting videos out. They are great!!!

Wow what a compliment Marcelo! Thank you! I believe I had some found some number 2 blades at woodcraft!
Do you do intarsia? Or segmentation or art like pictures?
I need people with your kind of experience on this channel thank you for subscribing!

@@woodworkeveryday thank you. I don't do intarsia or segmentation simply because fret work, which I do, brings me great satisfaction and relaxation. I have boxes and boxes of fretwork projects. I don't sell them. I give them as gifts. Christmas ornaments are really fun. I try to find the hardest and most challenging I can.

Hi. Enjoying some videos; for a newb, you've got a knack for it! I subscribed.
I have a new to me Dewalt 20" saw and had mixed results with my 1st project, maybe you can help out.
5/8" walnut, Olson Double Reverse 9RG. None of the scrollers were at my Woodcraft so I was on my own and bought based on packaging. It cut ok, but wandered easily and was difficult to correct direction (or re-enter at a new angle). Would a skip tooth make this easier, or I just need more practice?
(my tension was set to 1/2 to 1 click lighter than throwing a blade) Thanks for any help you can offer,
    Scott

Yeah walnut is very dense and a hard wood so it is very normal for some wondering. Maybe step up the blade thickness and skip tooth would be good. Good luck!!
