You gave a great, solid video about blades without making it complicated. A HUGE thumbs up! I bought my first scroll saw when I was in 9th grade....I'm on the short side of 70 now lol. It was a very simple machine, but very hard to get acquainted with. It was a MOTO-SHOP Model 57-2 Series 4. It was from the Dremel Mfg Division of the Emerson Electric Company of Racine, WI. Made in the U.S.A. You had to oil it every 4 hours of use. It used short pin blades that you could buy at Montgomery Wards. The one I had had a disc sander on the right side. I used it for making balsa aircraft parts. I still have the machine and it still works though I haven't used it in 50 years. I just started scrolling again about 5 years ago with a DeWalt 788. Until this year I only used Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse blades...mostly the #5, but I do have from 0/2 to #9. I also have their Superior Puzzle and #5 Spiral Reverse. But, this spring I decided to try the Pegas Modified Geometry #12 Reverse. i love them for cutting Baltic Birch Ply and the 7/8 inch Maple hubs I make for whirligigs. I also bought Niqua Ultra Skip + Reverse #9, but I haven't tried those yet. I consider myself a newbie at scrolling though. I'm making different projects mostly of my own designs...I was an art major in high school. I enjoyed your lesson on blades. It was confusing when I first started to scroll again. There are so many choices of blade now. Enjoyed! Take care!

Thank you for the kind words! And I actually started on a scroll saw just as you described with the short 4in pinned blades but, I quickly outgrew it and moved to a 16in 2 speed delta scroll saw. I still have the old saw packed in storage. great memories!

How long lasts a blade? Should I use it until it brakes? And because I don't want to be changing blades constantly can I just use a number 7 or 5 to everything from 1/4 inch to 3/4 (because that's pretty much all I cut...)?

I never use a blade until it breaks, It could potentially break off delicate details. I almost always use a #5 ultra reverse tooth blade for hard and soft woods, I am sorry for the late reply
