Best Sega Genesis VST Plugin Ever! Inphonik RYM2612

- A video about the best Sega Genesis VST plugin ever! Inphonik's "RYM2612" is the first true to live VST plugin for all DAW's both Windows and MacOSX. There's a rack version for you Propellerhead Reason fans. Many companies have tried to create a proper YM2612 emulation plugin and failed! Matter of fact, many video game emulators struggle with recreating this sound. One of the biggest reasons why people love the Sega Genesis is the texture of FM synthesis. The RYM2612 Stays true to the 4 operator synth and its 8 unique algorithms. I created 2 beats (so far) using it and I'm very impressed. The Icing on the cake is the RYMcast player that allows you to play, rip wav files, and rip individual wav files of VGM formatted Genesis OST's! The only 2 cons I have for this plugin is the minor CPU spikes (which lead to crashes in version 1.0 which was addressed) and the lack of effects (like reverb, delay, and arpeggios. What you do think about this plugin? Please leave a comment below!

#RYM2612 #SegaGenesis #VST
Had to cop this. Taking sounds from games like Earthworm Jim or Streets of Rage is crazy.
Streets of rages sound are in there but I'm like you. I ripped them to make sure😂
@@trevrockrock16 I show the website in the video 8:50
The sounds are suuuuper clean in this vst. I agree the GUI isn’t fancy but it gets the job done. Those beats were dope btw.
thank you so much
Just recently bought chipsynth MD and I'm loving it. The interface seems a like a step up from rym2612.
On another note, has anyone never heard of FMdrive? It was the first decent mega drive/genesis vst that actually sounded like a real ym2612 synthesizer.
Yes, by Ali James I think. Heard it but never bought it. Not yet at least. Love Chicpsynth MD
The sega genesis uses two synthesizers for music the yamaha2612 is a fm synth the sn76489 is square wave synth
RYM2612 has better interface in my opinion, if you like to tune or create sounds from scratch. Chipsynth though has way better VGM converter at this time that can read almost all of my VGM library, while RYM is still pretty glitchy there.
Lets say, Chipsynth is good for those who will use presets mostly, and RYM is good for sound design, and RYM is 10$ cheaper too for customers outside of north America.
Is not worth the 15 euro thanks to ADLPlug/OPN plug which does far better.
Picked it up on the podcast going to mess with it some more today.
lol ayyyyyyyyyye
Dope beats bro!! I read about this plug in a few days ago. Thanks for the review! But... at the start of the video, the Yamaha DX7 was mentioned and, yes that is a pricey piece of hardware. ARTURIA's DX7 V is the best virtual instrument I have ever experienced!! I highly recommend it to EVERY SOFT SYNTH FAN!! 400+ presets with 32 patches each, up to 6 envelopes, high quality compression, delay, and reverb built in the plug in!! It is simply... Fun to play
Arturia reached out to me about it but i got too much stuff right. Only thing I'm interested in is a new laptop. Basically a MacBook.
@@AveMcree have you ever played any of their soft synths or any of their hardware? I got 3 VSTs and a MIDI controller from them this year. I went to see MUSE in Houston in February and I noticed they were playing on stage the ARTURIA Matrix Brute!! Trust me! They are in the big leagues now and their instruments are second to none! Dont sleep on them. They are "coming up". I got turned on to them by my Sweetwater sales rep!
LOL
@@AveMcree and oh yeah, if you ever get a chance to see MUSE live, go see the show! Matthew Bellamy is the BEST guitar player on the planet!!! And he plays keys like I aint never seen before!!
Hey bro, I love your channel, you are very talented, you are helpful, and you are very humble.
Thank you Ave!!
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was my first ever video game. This plugin is dope af.
👌🏾
Nice review of one of the coolest VST’s and rack extensions around!
that 2nd beat you made is good good yo!💎💎💎
thank you
for real that one was dope
"who cares if it's janky? it works" that got me a good laugh and I had to subscribe.
This was so nostalgic pls more videos like this both beats 🔥 by the way
Altered beast, street fighter man so many memories and games cant recall the name of
Nostalgia 🔥
af!
This has convinced to cop this RE immediately for Reason, big up
Great little synth to get some of that Megadrive sound. Great demo!
I've never heard anything that sounds so close to Sega type sounds. You went dumb with it on those tracks! Loved it!!!
I'm doing a comparison video soon.
@@AveMcree Can't wait to check it out!
it was a true FM system, first of its kind in a home video game system. The reason Michael Jackson wanted to release Moonwalker on The Genesis was he didn't like the 8 bit computer sound. He wanted something that had a good sound.
What I want is a VST that recreates the Super Nintendo's music. Castlevania IV will always hit home with me.
Always great to find more YM2612 VST, as well as apps for the presets/vgm/vgz and etc... I've used VOPM (and FL Studio) for a long time. Its quirky, and nerdy but works, and quite well if you take time to understand how to deal with the quirks. I don't do my final production with the VSTs though. I more less use them as a quick brain-to-music method to lay down some sound... I use deflemask to do all the sequencing, as it is great for automating the parameters of the YM2612. I then take WAV dumps back to FL and do post FX processing. Sometimes I split sequences up though depending on the sound Im feelin for.
At the end of the day, there is no one right or wrong way man, as long as you get the sound your feelin thats dope. I LOVE the FM synths... I don't own a DX7, but my TX81Z(s) have been a prized charm in my studio gear collection. I'd love to build a hardware synth out of some YM2612 chips (or YM3834). It's been done... but it mostly would be just for the fun of having hardware... as the VSTs & actual vgm production using deflemask achieve the sound anyways.
Lastly, it seems the app to play VGMs was not coded with multithreading techiques (hence why the user interface locks up when it is thinking hard). A lot of .vgz music exists as well... its just a zipped file. Change it to .zip and extract to get your .vgm file.
That Toe Jam & Earl tho fam..... lol Fire... dope stuff.
They don't know nothing about that lol. Thanks
Thanks , i caught it on sale for Cyber week!
Imagine making a dark video game type beat 🔥
There's still a big issue with using RYMCast though because even within one channel, it's often cycling through so many sound patches at once, you can't realistically capture them all. For example, play back Streets Of Rage 2's Under Logic song through RYMCast, solo channel YM4, & you'll hear there at least 3 different sounds which play within the space of under half a second.
nasty bro you showed this vst off well beats go psycho I need to grab that 💯🔥
Some actual Sonic rings samples and other game sfx samples would have been lit...
I did a whole video about where you can get all those sounds from 2 years ago.. Of-course no one watched it lol ua-cam.com/video/GWoGQwlWiok/v-deo.html
@@AveMcree very nice I'll check it out
Streets of rage time!!
You already know
*Sonic runs across the screen twice* Traaaap-guuuhhhhh
1:08 when sonic got the drip
Wow this vst is 🔥🔥🔥
dope!!!!!! i might try this out!!
you won't regret it
FUCK I LOVE YOU FOR INTRODUCING ME INTO RYM2612 AND ZOPHAR ♥♥♥ If you only would know how much this means to me... thank you thank you thank you !!! :)
Please please check out Plogue art & technologie if you are interested in those original game-console FM sounds. They really rule and there is nothing in comparison. They are doing reverse-engineering for years now. All their stuff is awsomely recreated to the last gritty detail. It´s a real joy. A new 6 OP FM chipsynth is coming out soon as a new part in their Chipsynth series. :)
And of course there is Aly James Chiptune synth. A faithful recreation and fat more of the YM2612 FM chip.
Beats flame too
🔥🔥🔥
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Tight
Now put in 4bit bit reductioned vocals and the genesis mix is complete.
Let's see
Genny a great free sega genesis vst also and fm drive where you can find fm drive at the alyjameslab website.
those are terrible! The 2nd best to this is Dex with the Sega Genesis patches ua-cam.com/video/p6HE5U3xeFw/v-deo.html
Is there anything similar to this but for Playstation? If I could extract patches from final fantasy games my life would be complete
So...uh...hey. I know this comment is 3 months old, but I'll just say that you can use vgmtrans to get the samples from PS1 games. You can also get the midis, too if you want to study those. Keep in mind, some games streamed the audio and didn't use samples.
can you only drag and drop the vgm files in the vst? or can i also use ps2 files in the vst? if not, does anybody know a vst with the same abilities but not limited to vgm files?
Only sega vgm files work. Ps2 games and up used cd quality sounds.
Did I see a glimpse of Reaper?
It do not have high end clarity and low end punch as real thing,to me at least.
lol FM8 can do all these sounds...
No it can't! Fm8 operators have the absolute worst aliasing algorithm. Which makes the YM2612.
fm8 can not take the original vgm files from the genesis and make the exact sound. I have all the patches of the genesis pack for fm 8. They sound like trash.
@@AveMcree meh, we can agree to disagree then. although i will admit the "rymcast" feature is pretty cool. even if it is buggy as hell lol...
@@LainIwakuraa you can disagree all you want but you'd be 100% wrong by a long shot. There's several discussion about how proper FM synthesis sounds like in the Genesis. I suggest you do your research before trying to pick an argument in everyone of my videos.
Lain Iwakura stop being one of those type of niggas
Its not healthy
👍🏾
Imagine using SNESverb from impact sound works on this. Jeez
I rather use miniverb by audiothing
@@AveMcree Haven't used that tbh will check it.
I like techno music more like jesper kyd the advetures of batman and robin my brother like rap music more tho lol
Who did the animation??
those were from the sega genesis classic trailer
@@AveMcree dooooope
*laughs in Genny VST*
Genny isn’t even close 😂
OOOKKK AND THATS A PHAT SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR CHANNEL NOW
bell and everything
Trapfakedo! 😂 jk, but I got a question? The Adsr of this plugin, I saw the attack decay sustain release, but why is their 2 sustain knobs? SL SR?Same thing with the release?
😂😂😂
The way the genesis used the adsr was to shape the waveform. So basically the E.G. (envelope graphic) dictates the waveform. It's also depends on the algorithm you pick. I'll deep dive into the plugin one day soon.
@@AveMcree ok ace!
Uhm DEXED??
Dexed sounds great but t's not the exact same as this. Even with the patches from the Genesis being convert to sysex format. Dexed didn't have the DAC correct.
@@AveMcree ah so clearly uve been lookin for this specifically ;) dopedope :D
HAHAHA it crashed LOL
Windows life... Pauses, not responding.. SMH.. dope producer.. wack computer.. lmao
As someone who adores the MegaDrive/Genesis, this was a dream come true. Sadly, the presets do not do this beast justice. In fact, I would go so far as to say, they undersell this mini marvel. Now that RYMCAST tool is the real gamechanger, even though it still needs more work. Great video as usual and informational to boot.
Hey mate, is there some more presets around ? I see that they have some free extras on their website, dunno the quality though. Did you buy the vst and found some presets ?
The revenge of shinobi ost is one of the baddesstttt
I wonder if there is a midi mod for the Genesis like there is for the gameboy.
Probably
freakin' dope. I just got the genesis collection on the switch, so I'm replaying the Shining Force games. I could just get lost in the music from those games.
Super duper super Sonic the hedgehog 😎
Checked out that Zophar site, but they have the shitty SNES version of Phantom 2040 instead of the superior Sega Genesis version. Very sad.
ADLPlug and OPNPlug are open source, provide OPL2, 3, YM2612.
Yea Rym does sound kind of... clicky. The sound often generates clicks and this white noise between notes that sounds like... crap. Am I the only one? Your beat is perfecto but those low notes generates white noise thats unbearable to listen.
I don’t want to sound stupid but I’m not sure how to buy it since the currency is British or whatever, help please
alien soldier is one of the toughest games ive played props for a throwback fire as always
Now make me a 99 cent side screen brawler with all these songs
Nightmare on the ave........
(All rights to name and idea released to dj ave)
😂
I know Pierre use this
For real bro, i immidiately noticed his sound exactly like this
This plugin has problems serios, has several defects, besides that when vce selects it in your Daw, says you have to configure Audio setings, did not like the plugin, wanted to make a copy like the Nexus.. But they failed
thanks for the video! Nice to see emulate YM2612 :)
ive been using snes game soundfonts for this type of shit for so long nice to see a vst for it
Soundfonts?😂 You never heard of Minibit by audiothing?
@@AveMcree i wasnt looking into it real well apparently 😂😂😂 ill check that one out too though
@@goobiusthetrafficcone1438 Yeah, it's pretty true to the snes sound but you can use a degrader effect to get that vibe too.
I’ve been using FMDRIVE for awhile, but I will be checking this one out. Thanks
you are the man. this is beyond helpful! thanks a lot!
Edit skills top notch on this video
Looking forward to the future cook ups
Yessssir
I personally like the Plogue Chipsynth MD better. I tried them and decided to buy this one. I did a little review on my channel in case you want to hear what it sounds
AKEDO Video Game Music I got both and reviewed it. IMO both are great but I agree the plogue art one is better
Ave Mcree Its true. I did not remember it. Ok grad we have the same opinion 😉
Dope
I grew up playing the sega genesis and your originals sound so dope yo
thx
I'm gonna rip sounds from SOR2 and make hella house tracks with it!
Best house music remix
ua-cam.com/video/rn-MqR9Vekk/v-deo.html
So dope
absolutely
There's also drums online you may be a able to find it if you look up the video mixers mega's sega genesis drun sample pack.
I have the Korg Gadgets plugin officially release by Sega
@@AveMcree Cool. Maybe you could check out that other pack also.
Ave can you make a video explaining what each VST does meaning rompler vs adsr etc....
Romplers are sample based vst. More than often don't allow you the flexibility to change the tone sound (outside of adding effects, arpeggio, or a lfo).
@@AveMcree Thanks Ave!!!!!!
ADSR stands for attack, decay, sustain, and release.
Ave Mcree Thanks again!
