Jumbo Porgy frenzy in Jamaica Bay!!

- Went out with intentions to fill up the cooler with scup and oh man did I. Ran into some jumbo porgy. I was using asian crabs as bait and I was using the same $34 dollar reel from last time and it did the job. Very busy day, lots of kayaks, private and party boats. I found myself a little spot next to the bridge wall and we hit the Jack pot.

Thank you for sharing!
Wow,I dream about having a day like that! Nice bunch of tanks, great video.
Thank you bro! Last time I check the porgies are still holding strong in that area. It’s going on close to 3 weeks now.
Believe or not porgies are numerous in that area. I know because I live by there!
WOW man jumbo after jumbo, looked like a great time despite the noise and traffic, lol
Lol, yeah the bay is empty because everyone is at the bridge lol. The party boats are so close by too. When one of the boats called “ok lines up” it startled me, I almost reeled in mine too. Lol
@@NYCE_Fishing hahaha that’s great

Thank you bro!. There was huge schools of porgy around at the time. That had to be one of my best seasons.
Great Job buddy. Those were huge porgies. I’d love to join you next season from CT.
Thank you !. For sure man.
@@NYCE_Fishing Welcome buddy. I’ll be in touch.
Those porgies give a hell of a fight!
Yeah man! I’m ready for arm wrestling competition after that lol. Powerful fish for their size.
WTG porgy smash nice Go Get’em
Thank you brother!

Good job big porgies
Last year was awesome for porgies. I hope this year is the same.
I think it is going to be fun
Am scared of kayak fishing I can’t swim good if tht flips godforbid am fish bait. 😁good catch. I’ll do a skiff🇵🇷🎣🐟
Thank you brother! I have to say the Hobie outback is a very stable kayak, I feel safe on it. I also wear my life vest at all times.
Hey bro awesome fishing. Thanks for posting the video. By any chance do you so tours or have consireded doing so? Ill be intersted , have a hobie as well but not familair with that area
Thanks bro! Not I haven’t thought about doing fishing guide/tours. Something to think about for sure.
I'm in the area, always thought about buying a kayak. Do you have any videos on your setup or what it takes to launch etc. ? Nice fishing by the way!
Hi, I don’t have any videos on that, but I can put a video together going over all those things soon. Thank you for watching!
@@NYCE_Fishing just been wondering how difficult it is to go from your vehicle to the launch with the kayak. Thinking of getting a kayak for next season but it's like a 4k commitment
@@guyD0 best 4K I’ve spent in my life. The whole process of launching the kayak gets easier as you get your routine down. My biggest problem was to find the best kayak cart that worked for me.
So im thinking in buying a kayak so im a beginner on kayak whats the the best options for me ? By the way those jumbo porgys fight so good love them to catch just for their fights nice video my man! @NYCE_Fishing
@@edelcumbe6563 any pedal kayak that fits your budget. There is so many options in the market right now. Good luck brother!
Nice job! What is the size of the hook, line ? How much weight is the sinker, what kind rig is it? It is good to see you catching fish again and again, but it will be better if you show viewers your basic set up.
Thank you! I was using a lighter version of my tog set up. 20# test braided to 20# mono leader, the hook was 3/0 if I remember correctly and the sinker is a 3oz coin sinker so it won’t roll on me during change of tides and also don’t get stuck as other sinkers do. Also, I don’t use too much hardware.
@@NYCE_Fishing awesome, thanks
Yo you are reeling them in back to back!!! Big ones too...👍👍😁Are those live crabs you're using for bait??
Thank you! Yeah, those porgies were going crazy for the crabs. Tight lines!
lol at first i thought you are using a verry expensive shimano reels like $400 or up but then realized its just a $34 reel.
Lol yeah. That reel has lasted me two seasons so far. I caught everything with it from porgies, fluke, big sheepshead, striped bass, blues, etc. best 34 dollars I’ve spent in my life. Easy to get into the gears for maintenance too.
Nice Fishing Dude, u need two poles Bro
Thanks bro. I carry 3 now lol.
you did good!! ive been there where every one wants your hot spot...
Thank you!, that’s why I wasn’t trying to say or react much, I didn’t want to draw attention. I try to stay away from the crowds.
I have the impression that the green crabs are weeding out the smaller porgies for the bigger ones. Would you agree?
Yes, also using crabs buys you some time for the bigger fish to find your bait. Clams, worms will get shredded to pieces by the smaller porgies and small sea bass.
@NYCE_Fishing are you breaking the pincers , or just using them as they are , have also tried in the spring mid may late may ?
@NYCE_Fresh clams best bait
these guys are like Eliasvfishing without all the nice fish
What month of the year was the video? I want to learn what is the best time to catch porgy. Thanks!
Early October. They were going crazy for asian crabs.
@NYCE_Fishing if you had fresh clams...you would have done just as good as the crabs
Massive Size I Thought There Was Not Too many Big Size Porgies In That Spot. Damm Good Job Bro
They are there and they are holding strong, lots of fishermen there too. Thank you for watching!.
@@NYCE_Fishing i really appreciate
What’s your thoughts on night fishing porgies…thanks
Personally, I haven’t fish on my kayak at night. Party boats do go out for porgies at night and they do very well. I know lots of people the fish for porgies from bridges at night and they do very well too.
what bridge is that marine parkway?
Yup!
Dude...thos are JUMBOS for Jamaica Bay....is that Marine pkwy bridge?
Jamaica bay has been very consistent with big porgies this year. The back bay has been slow, I know guys at the cross bay bridge have been struggling to find keepers.
There's a boat ramp there?
Kayak, small craft I guess. Thank you for watching!.
The first one was a nice sammich size. You're braver than me. That's too small for my fat ass in that kayak. Too much water to swallow. NOPE!
Wheres that bridge?marine parkway?
Yes sir!
What are you using as bait?
Crabs
@@NYCE_Fishing nice bro💪🏼 could u make a video that next…. I tried squid and shrimp
Theres a boat ramp there ?
Thanks for watching. I don’t know of a boat ramp around there, but there is a bunch of marinas. I’m sure there has to be one close by.
I have a kaiak theres a fishing parking there ?
Their not there anymore?!
Is porgy time right now brother!. They are there.
They're
Thank you 😊 God bless
hello
Hello! Thank you for watching!
You need a cooler!!
I have a catch bag right with ice behind me, I kept forgetting to put them in there lol!!. They made it to the bag eventually and the meat held up pretty good and it was nice and fresh!. Thank you for watching.
@@NYCE_Fishing good stuff!! Yeah meat quality goes down quick when not on ice!! Enjoy video, keep them coming!
You look so cramped in there ,is it uncomfortable to fish...looks like it .
There is limited space on a kayak and there is a bunch of stuff to get use to, but as long as you build a routine it does get easier and easier each time.
Don’t eat those fish. Heavily polluted.
Do you have instagran?
Yes sir @nyce_fishing
