Hey Scott! I hope you can see this. I love all your videos. I'm solar power challenged and would love a video showing how you wired your panels to your van. Also, have you ever been frightened by a wild animal on your hikes? Men don't like to admit fear but I think it would be interesting for us to know. I'm a city girl so forgive my ignorance. I'm an RN and don't know much about the outdoors. You're a good man and I respect your lifestyle immensely.
@rhondaweaver4486 hi Rhonda. It’s probably time for an update video overview of my solar. I do have some older videos in a Playlist here: ua-cam.com/play/PL9PWzpL1cZIEK5IOyMP6XlZN_abmkRega.html&si=nvoQl8CIyaLzSVot The best advice I can pass along is to use good quality glass solar panels and not the flexible panels. The glass panels generate much more power. I’m afraid of cougars when hiking. They are scary. But I usually stick to well trafficked trails so seeing any wild animals is extremely rare.
And please try not use one time use products, like paper towels. It takes a whopping 2.5 GALLONS of water to make just ONE roll of paper towels. And that's just one thing out of hundreds of other products we use in our everyday lives. They take so much of natural resources to make. And water is the most precious commodity. Each year earth gets hotter and hotter and dryer and dryer, and some cities like Mexico City, are running out of fresh drinking water. Campers of any kind, already generate so much more trash, including a ton of plastic, that we don't need to add to it. Wildlife and marine life are already literally dying from plastic in their digestive system, or choking and being tangled in our trash. It's really unconscionable what we are doing to this beautiful earth we call home. And specially to all kinds of other species on this planet that have no voice in this.
Twenty five years ago I didn’t see this coming. That I would be watching a movie of a guy making coffee , in a van….on the side of the road…Nope. Wouldn’t have guessed it. Stay sharp friend 👍👍👍👍
Twenty Five years ago I dreamed that I'd be sitting in my van somewhere awesome, sunny, and relaxing after a ymmy breakfast of oatmeal myself. You know where I am? Sitting in my van in the Arizona after a yummy breakfast of oatmeal! I'm a lucky woman. Been living in my van now for 4 years and love it so much!
Those folks talking about you "wasting" water probably waste a WHOLE lot more water than you...just by flushing the toilet, running their dishwasher and/or washing machines. . . I always find it ridiculously critical. Especially since there's no doubt they have no idea what being conservative is when it comes to actually living in a van. From all women to you...thank you for not being a part of the stinky guy crew! :)
Someone told me I shouldn’t use paper plates in my van because it’s a waste. I very quickly reminded him that his carbon footprint using heat, electricity, and way more water living in his apartment is way bigger than my carbon footprint living off grid.
"I'm a guy... livin in a van... down by the river!" Chris Farley's iconic Matt Foley has actually became a respectable way of life. I watch these type vids for the coziness! 😊
I do love the coziness of the rain, staying in bed with my little pup. Rain days are perfect for reading a book, drinking hot cocoa and just listening to the calming rain. Love it❤️❤️❤️❤️
Some of your best videos are ones where you just hunker down in the van and do the mundane tasks all day! Love them. Speaking of bad weather where I am in Canada we've had 3 days of freezing rain this past week and more coming on Monday. Geez I hate winter after Christmas! Thanks Scott.
Scott, You have discovered the formula to living simply and well. Thank you for inviting viewers to join you in your minimalist tiny home on wheels. No one does it better than you do. Your transparency affords viewers a way to expierence your life authentically. You have shown us how to make a better cup of coffee, prepare a hot cereal with rolled oats and incorporate problem solving into your lifescape. Your narrative is captivating and uou showcase the van living nomad path in a warm and welcoming way. Your awesome.
Yes very interesting and informative with your tongue in cheek humor while we watch you make and enjoy fantastic coffee and cook terrific meals a grat vlog who would have thought hahaha! We all must be voyeurs!!!
It's so important to be clean and presentable. Not only for others comfort, but for you own and for your mental health too. I struggle with depression, and hygiene is the first thing that goes when I'm having a hard time. Keep "wasting" that water. Crawling into a clean bed at night is the best feeling.
I don’t know about you, but I think the sound of the rain on the roof of my van at least is very soothing while I sleep I know for many it drives them crazy
Do not listen to other people. Cleanliness and self care is the best. Wash every day. Do what makes you happy. I can’t go a day with out washing. Lol. It’s a blessing that you can. Enjoy your day❤
There is no excuse for not keeping yourself clean, A good wash and brushing your teeth and doing your hair every day keep you in a good routine, that starts the day and finishes your day.👍🇦🇺.greetings from Australia.
I listened to you say "that's the task at hand, isn't it?" over and over. I am struggling with depression, anxiety, and panic. I don't focus on "the task at hand" very well bc I have flashbacks from the past and fear about the future. I'm trying to get your words in my brain for help with focus. Thank you, your voice is so calm. I had to edit - I listened to "Be brave, you can do this." many times too.
Hey Sandy, I'm sorry to hear about your struggle. I hope things have improved this year. I would like to share with you a scripture that comforts me when I feel like that. Philippians 4: 6 - 9 When you realize that God loves you, it changes everything!
@susanolson3611 Thank you, Susan. Those are wonderful verses. Thank you for sharing them with me. I did struggle with believing God loves me. Things are getting better, I'm seeing light in the darkness. Again, thank you and God's blessings on you.
Yeah, reminds me of when I had to take a sponge bath (from a bucket)because I couldn't use the shower. And my five cats sitting around and watching. 🚿☺️🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈
Just an idea for for you from a frugal Scotsman who lived in a van for 12 years. Try making savory oatmeal. You add anything savory. All the items you put into your burritos can go in oatmeal. Put a fried egg on top, cheese to make it like a risotto, pizza items to make it Italian, tofu, chicken or meats/sausages are good too. Sky’s the limit with savory oatmeal and of course a splash of hot sauce :) Thanks for your wonderful videos. Cheers buddy :)
When people call a toque a beanie, I expect them to pull out a skullcap with a propeller. I'm glad you got it right. :) When I make oatmeal, I put 1/3 C of Quaker oats, powdered milk, sweetener and a bit of raisin bran cereal in a bowl before adding hot water. A bit of a stir, let it sit, stir and eat. No need to dirty a pot. Sometimes, for a treat, I'll use honey instead of Splenda. Jon in rural BC, Canada
I got a hot water bottle for those cold moments when you just need to raise your body temperature but don't want to put the fire on. One of my best buys.
That's what I was thinking! I've kept thinking! There is all this interesting stuff on youtube and online in general, yet here i am! He is amusing and the sights are amazing!! And, I LOVE coffee. So there is that.😂
That rain sounds so heavy - beating on your van. Thanks for posting today, I've been wondering how you're doing in this storm. Winters are so heavy when you're living in a vehicle. I remember big storms when I lived in that 20-ft trailer in Big Sur. ... :) I remember one day there was this big storm, and the wind was blowin soooo hard, and my crow buddies were sittin in this tree in front of my window. That tree was bending, and those crows were standing almost sideways on that branch, but they were holdin' on ... lol ... funny memory ... wishing you a warm & cozy night out there, Scott. Please be safe ... 😺💜
Recent subscriber. I really enjoyed this zen episode. Days like that can be special in their simplicity and comfort. I'm always interested in small space cooking ideas so keep that coming. Your carbon steel pan looks great. Coincidentally, my current shopping list includes a carbon steel pan for my van travel, especially for outdoor cooking. I also occasionally use the chain mail scrubber with my favorite cast iron skilleet when at home. Works well.
I adopted a few of your van life hacks into my own RV LIFE. I have been using rubber bands on a limited basis but now find them preferable to binder clips. And I just started using heavy whip cream in my coffee and absolutely love it! Thanks for all the great tips! 😉
I just sat and watched this video from start to finish. In these days of hedonism, you prove it's all so unnecessary. The organisation you have in your little van just hypnotizes me.
Hi my fellow van man ..I'm van girl Cam Girl ..I've been watching your videos for just a few days now and enjoy them ☺️I'm in Cali now and man oh man the hail is coming down ..and like you I'll just stay in my van where it's nice and toasty .I just recently got an electric blanket and it works pretty well on my Jackery . I get 8 hours of usage . Just a heads up so yiu stay extra toasty ..and like you I gotta ..I mean its A MUST that I take some sort of s Shower But most times I just go to the gym 😁 Ps. I crochet so I make beanies and mask. And I usually park inside of a parking lot like a Denny's so that you're not actually on a passing car streets zoom zoom traffic ...that's definitely one of my pet peeves. Plus having to put back every thing just so can go to another spot uggghh 😩 lol any who yeah you got this ! We vanners can weather any kind of storm we a made like that 😁
Loved your video.... I'm older than dirt ... 9 years US Army including a combat tour in Vietnam (2/502 inf 101st Airborne) and spent around 330 days of that tour, sleeping, eating in the mud on those mountain jungles along the DMZ. Being clean was; shaving once every four days... that's it ... We carried the water we used. We had ground sheet to sleep on, as an air mattress will squeak if you move on it (not good in a combat zone). A few times we would find NO markings (I was the point man) of NVA around a mountain stream (ICE COLD) and we would place security while a couple of washed in stream taking turns. My teardrop has a shower tent with a 20 ltr feed tank to a gas water heater. (plus a "porta potty" for my wife) .... digging a hole in the woods works fine for me (LOL). Sorry but 2 quarts???? amazing, mate. Let them bitch, that's amazing! Side note> I move to teach in Australia in 1979 ... used to take my sons, one at a time each weekend camping on my Harley Dresser... It's a life I always enjoyed... great time watching this.
I enjoy your little stories and narration of your activities in the van. I also love cherries!! 🍒🍒🍒🍒. I would enjoy having coffee with you all day long, especially if it’s raining. Thank you. Subscribed.
First time viewer here and you are so calm and we'll spoken It's easy to tell your at peace with your environment and yourself I have lived in a small motor home for years Now I'm back at my beach house I will do van life again It's a great feeling that I miss and hard to explain to others who have not lived the lifestyle Long enough to be comfortable with finding yourself Once you do its the best feeling ever I'm from Canada Thanks for sharing
Hi from 🇬🇧. I don't know why I love seeing a day in the life of other van dwellers, kinda cosy to watch. I love it in mine on rainy or bitterly cold days, I love hearing, feeling and seeing the weather, you don't get that in bricks. It's freezing here at the moment and the burner is roaring, Major Maligator flaked in front of the fire, Torvi the lurcher on my bed and moo moo and smokey the cats on the sofa. Mines an ex horse transport lorry/truck , Ford iveco 7.5 tonne. I love nothing more than staying in , cozy. One ❤ fellow rubber tramp 😆
Yes use all the water you need bathing is refreshing. How do you wash your hair? Gym membership? And your hair looks great. I hope you get plenty of sunlight it’s so dark in your van humans need much more SUNLIGHT DAILY for your health. Wool is the best! And I’ve always made oats with the water cover it cooks even better add cinnamon and blueberries 🫐
I have a video of how I wash my hair in this Playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PL9PWzpL1cZIHqSZqC7ho6jhfWSQaLisGF.html&si=Z1WlyuVVhCbHI4p1 I’m outside all day so I get plenty of sun.
With all the bad weather, this was a really nice stay in the van and take care of business video. I really enjoyed it, take care down there in So California, it's looks pretty bad on the news, tons of rain, snow and floods.....take care my friend.
This is the first time that I've seen your videos I don't know if you're a comedian you're doing a good job being funny and I liked it that you said it was raining and cold the reason why you're going to stay in the van all day I watch a lot of camping in vans and various other things and I usually see the people talking about their shelter and how cozy it is etc etc but they spend about 90% of the time outside in the freezing cold the rain cooking whatever it is that's great but me I want to see what you live in I can see the outside I know what it's outside I've been in the country I've been in the mountains I understand give me a dose of what you're living in. I'm in amazement sometimes about how people have fixed up their vans and their cars or their cabins. And you seem so cozy in there. I love the sound of the rain on the roof very calming the way you present yourself it's very refreshing.😊
Don't know how you do it, I would go crazy being cooped up in that small of a vehicle. I get claustrophobic in my 1800 sq ft house but going out and snowblowing for hours this past week then coming back to a nice warm and cozy house is like heaven. Take care!
I'm moving into a small van full time in May. I'm a strong proponent of minimalism, and I can't wait to begin life in such a small space. Normally, I don't care to feel physically confined, but I don't see your van as confining. It's cozy and practically put together, which I'm sure also makes it very enjoyable and comfortable.
Hello I stumbled across your channel and thank you for such a relaxing video to match the sounds of rain in the background. It seems so nice & quiet to just hunker down in a small cozy place. Living simple and free is such a blessing!
I listen to rain videos every night in order to sleep. Love the sound of the rain hitting your van. It is different and more calming than the usual rapid fire rain on videos. You should make a 10 hour rain video. You could make $$$$.
We’ve had a couple of nice thunderstorms in Redondo Beach late this morning and just a few minutes ago. It’s time for some warmer and drier weather so I can head over to S. AZ for my annual camping/hiking trip!
I've always referred to my sleeping hat as my watch cap , even know the only thing I'm watching is the insides of my eyelids while I'm wearing it....😴 Lol . Really enjoyed the video .
I know it is hard for you to read all of these, so no worries there, but your sense of humor and timing are so perfect. You make me laugh out loud, learn new stuff and get a real feel for living in a tiny tiny space. I will be out there in October living the same van living you are now. My best mentor for sure.
I buy rolls of cellotape to seal the bags of food back up. A roll last for ages and I find it seals the bags of food much better and you don't need much.
Thank you for making videos about your adventures and experiences. Many of us are learning because we don’t know what’s coming next. I’m slowly gathering things that I hear are necessary if someone wants to move into a minivan. It’s spring in Ohio, so maybe this would be a good time to plan so I could leave by October
I hope things go well for you. If you can spend a night in your minivan in your own driveway or local Cracker Barrel, you will gather a lot of useful information about what products you might want.
@@StaticCamperVan thank you! I’m slowly collecting things that I see other people have that work for them. Like for example I just got a butane stove and rechargeable powerstation that I could connect a solar panel to. The most difficult part for me would be making sure I had enough water. I know a lot of people do gym memberships to shower. I would love to just stay by the beaches wherever I ended up. Then I could drive away is bad weather is coming. I’m still studying! Thank you again for responding and happy adventures!
I like fruit, pure maple syrup and pecans in my oatmeal too! Also, we got snow in Humboldt, right on the coast! We haven't had that much since 1989. It lasted only a day, but it was enough to make a snowman and it was beautiful! It came the day of my birthday so a lovely gift for me! ☺️ ❄️ Just thought it was funny because I recently told you it rarely snows here right on the coast. 🤣
Uhoh you look like me Temps plummeted Snow missed us but maybe by morn...Wow So tonite pull out my Lil portable infrared fireplace and candles Yay...Can hear all the rain coming down upon you Cozy day ahead Take care
In Hawaii... we love a shower... I love a bath too... but definitely before bed, because it feels so much better to be clean before getting into bed!!... and yes, keeps our sheets clean longer!! ❤

Where did u get that Polish mug? I want that
@Benny.13 found that mug years ago at a TJ Maxx discount store

The historical SoCal storm has been interesting content for a few of the VanLifers in my life. I ❤ storm
Scott. If you used a tablespoon of water, THAT, would be too much in some people's minds LOL! 😆
The rain sounds nice on the roof. Makes it cozy.
I for one am glad you bath regularly!
Haha
😂
Right..no need for a another stinkin channel.
I would absolutely be bathing twice a day too! Don’t let others put you off!
Beautiful simplicity. I love it.
Just a heads up so yiu stay extra toasty ..and like you I gotta ..I mean its A MUST that I take some sort of s Shower But most times I just go to the gym 😁
Ps. We vanners can weather any kind of storm we a made like that 😁
Great set up you realy got me thinking here 😊
Definitely taking a bath is using water in a positive way
Loved your video....
Love it and you are very organized. Your not wasting water, stay safe and warm.
I enjoy your little stories and narration of your activities in the van. I also love cherries!! 🍒🍒🍒🍒. I would enjoy having coffee with you all day long, especially if it’s raining. Thank you. Subscribed.
Fun hearing the rain.
First time viewer here and you are so calm and we'll spoken
It's easy to tell your at peace with your environment and yourself
I have lived in a small motor home for years
Now I'm back at my beach house
I will do van life again
It's a great feeling that I miss and hard to explain to others who have not lived the lifestyle
Long enough to be comfortable with finding yourself
Once you do its the best feeling ever
I'm from Canada
Thanks for sharing
Enjoyed our day inside just cooking and chatting!! Felt cozy!
I have a video of how I wash my hair in this Playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PL9PWzpL1cZIHqSZqC7ho6jhfWSQaLisGF.html&si=Z1WlyuVVhCbHI4p1
I’m outside all day so I get plenty of sun.
Yay!! Stay inside and cook!!
With all the bad weather, this was a really nice stay in the van and take care of business video. I really enjoyed it, take care down there in So California, it's looks pretty bad on the news, tons of rain, snow and floods.....take care my friend.
keeping clean is very important, not only for hygene purposes but to keep a good an healthy self esteem. just found your channel. new subs.
No worries on the bathing thing. You are doing the right thing.
This is the first time that I've seen your videos
I don't know if you're a comedian you're doing a good job being funny and I liked it that you said it was raining and cold the reason why you're going to stay in the van all day
I watch a lot of camping in vans and various other things and I usually see the people talking about their shelter and how cozy it is etc etc but they spend about 90% of the time outside in the freezing cold the rain cooking whatever it is that's great but me I want to see what you live in I can see the outside I know what it's outside I've been in the country I've been in the mountains I understand give me a dose of what you're living in. I'm in amazement sometimes about how people have fixed up their vans and their cars or their cabins. And you seem so cozy in there. I love the sound of the rain on the roof very calming the way you present yourself it's very refreshing.😊
That rain sounded so nice 😊
just stumbled on to your video, i like the cozy feeling while its cold and rainy outside
Don't know how you do it, I would go crazy being cooped up in that small of a vehicle. I get claustrophobic in my 1800 sq ft house but going out and snowblowing for hours this past week then coming back to a nice warm and cozy house is like heaven. Take care!
I am a vanlifer also and on demand bath is definitely a must for me! I really enjoy your videos.
I’m usually outside so really, this van gives be the biggest living space I’ve ever had
How's it going
You're so lucky. I love the rain. 🌧⛈
I’m very happy to know that you like my video.
I have a second ASMR channel but oddly, I don’t have any rain videos yet. I will work on that
Loved your video the rain sounded so calming x
Aww, thanks Jo. I do read all messages. Wishing you all the best with your vanlife.
I buy rolls of cellotape to seal the bags of food back up. A roll last for ages and I find it seals the bags of food much better and you don't need much.
Our son got us a chain scrubby too. It works great! Enjoying your content.
I love your channel! Thank you for your vlogs. Amazing!
Thanks Mohamed
lol!!!! You so made me laugh. Nope don’t be stinky! It’s great you’re clean. lol!!!
This winter is cold and wacky everywhere. Nice birthday gift!
Just discovered your channel this evening. Your voice & energy is very relaxing & comforting & mindful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, Theresa
Uhoh you look like me Temps plummeted Snow missed us but maybe by morn...Wow So tonite pull out my Lil portable infrared fireplace and candles Yay...Can hear all the rain coming down upon you Cozy day ahead Take care
Scott loved hearing the rain on roof and solar panel . Very cosy in there.
In Hawaii... we love a shower... I love a bath too... but definitely before bed, because it feels so much better to be clean before getting into bed!!... and yes, keeps our sheets clean longer!! ❤
Yes it would be nice to see how you strip..thank you so much...enjoyed another great informative video.
" Spare you the close up details, this is all you get!". Sooo funny!!!
The cars zooming sounds like the waves of the ocean
Thanks for sharing you seem like a friendly person God bless you 😊😊😊
