Man, Leon is my favorite 🏒 player and I think he's the 2nd best player in the game(imo). I also did not know just how good he's been this year, this is impressive and Leon deserves all the attention that comes his way and more attention from NHL. He's likable and funny too! He's SO much fun to watch!
His hockey IQ is something out of this world. He is not only flashy/spectacular... He does provide to the team what the team needs the most, and he makes his teammates better. I cannot skate properly on ice, but I feel I could score 15 goals per season in the NHL if I was one of the players playing in his line. 😂
@@lowtierduster-7254 Very true, but I think mcdavids iq is better (than everyone in the league) he knows when to do stuff, rarely messes up, and thinks way faster than everyone else.
He probably is tbh. His puck possession is crazy, 1 timer, best passer, goal scoring, defence has been good too. For me I would say #1 centre in the NHL, top 3 player in the NHL.
If it did, there would be many expensive, hard to find parts that would have to be imported directly from the manufacture, and it would take almost 6 months to complete the order.
Yes great video and highly deserving of leon who has been a beast this season. It's still awesome that we have this guy on our team and he seems to be in a great mood this year in all his interviews, constantly smiling. I hope he gets all those trophies lol. it was todd marchant who was third in voting for the selke. For myself the closest comparable would be Mats Sundin another euro who was a big man, great in the circle, had a killer backhand and great wrister and for someone so big he could skate and handle the rough stuff, and i don't even like the maple laughs.
Yeah Pickard has that quick side to side movement that Skinner is lacking, if he could manage to teach Skinner how to do it Skinner would be one of the best in the league
@@immersionHEHE Better lateral movement, better puck tracking, and better play reading. And the last people to get that, are all the Edmonton media "experts". They always figure things out once it's obvious to everyone else.)
It's part of the conundrum that the oilers are in. Skinner (over all) is playing well enough to keep him in the starter role, rather than go out and try to trade for a legit #1. Pickard plays fantastic for a back up tendy, providing all you could hope for wheather he has sat 2 weeks or 2 periods before he gets the call. They can't afford to replace skinner at his salary, and they can't afford to lose pickard to waivers so they would have to include him on any trade. We'll you arent going to improve the starting position enough to justify the cost and the same goes for the backup. Oilers need to just deal with the goaltending they have and worry about improving the D core and the attention of all the skaters to the systems and puck control.
You talked about faceoffs for a second, and it reminded me of an idea I had to track faceoffs better: Faceoff MMR/ELO like a ranked video game. It takes into account how highly ranked the opponent is in the circle when it gives/takes rank points for the faceoff. So if a 500MMR players beats an 800MMR player, they get more points for the win and the other player loses more points for losing to a lower ranked player. I think that's way better than a straight percentage, and ends up being more like a power ranking.
All we have to hope for is that the Oilers make the playoffs with the important players healthy, Drai is proving that he's more clutch than ever when they need a goal and we know that the nerves of the playoffs don't get in the way for him.
I get a kick out of people that choose when to and not to recognize +/- as a legitimate stat based on what narrative they're looking to push. It's a legitimate stat, period. It's straight up means that he was on the ice at even strength for a goal for or against. People try to use the argument that he could have just gotten on the ice, and didn't factor into the play at all, but that would be a very small % of the instances. It of course doesn't factor in how much he had to do with the goal for or against, but if a player is a consistent + player, that means that generally good things happen more often when he's on the ice, then bad things.
I've always felt like Draisaitl looks like some kind of fucking big animal when he skates, must be absolutely terrifying to face when he's red hot like this. Imagine if he wasn't banged up in the finals and played even half as well as he's playing right now we would've had that cup. Oh MAN gotta get over that shit right now! 😅 McDavid is still my favorite player though but Draisaitl is a close second
My Homer pick for best/most important player so far is Quinn Hughes, based on his corsi numbers being even more lopsided than draisaitl’s in many places, and the way he controls the entire game. That said, I fully recognize how ridiculously good Draisaitl is and has been this year.
I love that you said " advanced stats " and REAL stats . Try making wagers using analytics and you'll the unexpected happens more often than expected . Only real stats of things that actually happened make sense
Advanced stats have a place, but the problem with a bunch of them is they're judgement calls based on opinion. Giveaways and takeaways for example seem like they'd be simple, but at what point does a giveaway become a takeaway, and vise versa?
Yes, over the past month, but other than that no. He is the best goal scorer on his team, his passing is a little ahead of mcdavid also, other than that mcdavid is better in basically every important category.

Yes he is. Hes super close to Matthews in goals career. Plus he can pass like no ones business.
He has similar goal totals as a pass first player. Many times he seems to be scoring against his will almost.

To be fair a lot of Russian/European players don’t get the credit they deserve but this is looking like a career year for #29.
