Nashville may be 31st on the board, but they'll always be 32nd in our hearts. 💛
Andrew Brunette is not a right fit for them as their coach!
@ Tale as old as time, no?
@@dmonsefthat’s also not true. Brunette is far from the problem.
@CalledTurnAGundam OOF. Thats kinda hurts my heart. I'm always rooting for Berry Trotz.

You and your brother seem happy
Really...you woke me up just to tell me that ?.....where's Buffalo this week ?
@@Wogger72living the dream!
The capitals have pulled off the greatest rebuild on the fly the league has ever seen.
I’d say it was more of a retool.
@brianhobaugh that's exactly what I said lol.
A rebuild on the fly is a retool
Yeah. Haven't reached the New Year. We'll see where they end up. The Ovi era can't just continue another ten years.
The Caps are definitely rollin, it's remarkable
That's not a rebuild; that's called a retool or reload.
Watching Habs is like watching Netflix, you always wait for the next season.
have you watched sabres hockey
Good one 😂
Same with the oilers
Netflix I don't wait for the next episode though, I enjoy my episode. Same goes for the Habs or any of your favorite teams, enjoy each and every game you watch instead of just waiting for the lottery or next season because that's not fun trust me I know as a Sens fan especially in 2019, 2020, 2021 etc lol
@@Undefeatedsports3huh? That’s not it at all.
nice to see Ottawa finally be in a playoff spot in December again hope they can hold onto it
Sunday night in Japan and time to go to sleep with the soothing dulcet tones of Shannon and the hockey rankings….. I’ll be asleep in five minutes !!
Thanks Hockey Guy 😴
Awesome! How’s the hockey scene over there, or do you mostly stick to nhl?
Aye I'm also in Japan rn (albeit on vacation), but that won't stop me from watching THG Power Rankings
I'm going to Japan this summer. Any recommendations of what to see?
I was watching this for my hockey updates when I was in Thailand. Hockey was the only thing I missed when I was there. The games were on at 7 AM, so i didn't really want to stay up that late to catch a game.
@@JD200_ I haven't been able to find anyone as good as Taro Tsujimoto yet.
I think it's safe to say that Spencer Carbery has a pretty bright future in this league!
Yes, he’s come a long way from running the Leaf’s power play.
@@markandersen793 Caps knew what they were getting in Carbs since he coached their prospects in Hershey for 3 seasons. Leafs made the choice for Berube because they badly needed an experienced coach with playoff success. Carbs could well have succeeded in Toronto had they not been so Cup drought desperate of team. Long term, if the Leafs don't win a Cup with Berube then Carbs becoming the Caps coach becomes a story how the Leafs let go of a potential young coach. This could be a Tuukka Rask type mistake all over again!
@@dmonsefwhen the leafs signed Berube this offseason Spencer Carbury had already been the coach of the Washington Capitals for one full season.
@@dmonseffrom what I remember, they wanted him as soon as they fired Lav.
Morning all ☕
Capitals are an absolute wagon this season and I love it
I believe they are pulling the bandwagon you’re riding.
The whole system is a wagon 👍

@@anticensorshipsociety1063 who cares man still impressive
I would say it’s due between post Christmas and the break. You know that’s when teams even mean it or don’t
Honestly at this point might as well wait for Ovi to be back.
Been long overdue, there’s endless things to highlight about how good the Caps have been and how everyone on their team is performing highly in their own way
RANKINGS!!!
seriously this has become my favorite sunday comfort video.
Love your take on the Devils. They are definitely playing a more sustainable game, hard forecheck and not solely relying on their rush game. Add in that the team defense has looked amazing these past few games and they have not been getting frustrated in close games, they sit back and wait for their openings to turn on the offense. Its been fun to watch their game mature
Hischier is our captain and Bratt may be our best player at the moment, but the real heart of the team may be Jack Hughes. Up until this year, he has still seemed like a kid, maybe a little immature. He still seems that way somewhat but the fact that he's playing on the PK, getting better at faceoffs, etc seems to coincide with the patience they're showing as a team. Keefe deserves some credit for that. They already have 3 GREAT two-way forwards in Hischier, Mercer, and Bratt. Luke is becoming a truly great player as well, ahead of schedule, shades of Niedermayer and potentially even better.
Pesce has been a beast also. @@bted
You look amazing in that Utah Hockey Club sweater!
That blue does look snappy on him
Shannon’s power rankings are the best you can get,so insightful and just top shelf content!!! Keep up the great work bud, you’re a national treasure.
Really awesome how quick you get these up after we just had a ton of games last night! Thanks and great job!
Cant wait for Ovi to come back. Needs to wait until he is as close to 100% as possible so he doesnt negatively affect the chemistry as much getting his legs back under him.
This season has definitely made me not worry so much about what the Caps will do after Ovechkin retires. The GM has done a phenomenal job replacing Oshie, Backstrom, Kuznetsov and (for a short while) Ovechkin.
For sure, the younger core is looking very good right now, also they have a top 2 NHL prospect in the world coming up this season
I mean, I don't think anyone saw McMichael or Protas becoming as good as they are right now. I, at least, thought McMichael was kinda cooked when it took him so long to find a spot in the NHL. I thought that maybe he might become a 3rd line player at some point, but never did I picture him being as good as he is. And Strome and Sandin have just been revelations this season. With the addition of Roy, Chychrun, Thompson, someone needs to get a medal for this. Just such intelligent additions. Even Dupois, who hasn't been lighting it up offensively, has been rock solid in all other aspects of the game. Who the hell could've seen that coming?
An absolute masterclass in roster building. Well worthy of applause. And that Kuznetsov deal coming off the books was such a beautiful little miracle too.
Aside from all the players you mentioned, I’d give extra attention to Logan Thompson who has been absolutely phenomenal in net. Possibly the best addition/“surprise”/emergence for the Caps at least for me
@@PeksisarvinenCarbery Coach of the Year so far
👍 Without a doubt
Morning from Alaska everyone!
Two Utah jerseys this week! Love to see it!
Blackwood was phenomenal against Nashville and what caught my attention is the first goal he did give up in the 3rd….he still made EVERY effort to attempt to make the save and THAT is what I want from my teams goaltending. I agree, both Blackwood and Wedgewood are an upgrade from what we had previously. #GoAvsGo
I like two hockey teams, the Washington Capitals and the Buffalo Sabres. I had such different hopes for these two teams going into the season and now I don't know what to think. The Caps have put together this amazing season after an on the fly rebuild and the Sabres had all these expectations and just blew it.
Ripping out a Captain from a team the way Drury did, regardless of it being Trouba, was like ripping out an organ from a body. Management showing how ruthless they can be seemed to affect the players. I'm curious how this will unfold, whose head will roll next, and what players they acquire...I love this Devils team
Seems to me Laviolette could be on the verge of being fired if the Rags continue like this. It has become so bad that not even Shesterkin can save their butts anymore!
If Jack Hughes stays hralthy, watch out. Devs.
Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but the NHL league wide standings has the Jets and Wild (Tied points-wise with the Caps) as the top 2 teams in the league and Chicago and Nashville as the two worst teams points-wise. All four teams in the Central Division.
Shannon, the UHC are absolutely making the playoffs this year. That roster is so young and talented, they only collapsed after the relocation rumors last February and were on track for a wild card berth. I'm so pissed they moved right when we got a GM and a coach who knew what the hell they were doing.
Devils bringin a tear to me eye
Yeiii power rankings!! Thank you Shannon.
Go Caps! wow
All this panic from ranger fans almost made me think they’re in trouble, then I checked their record.
As a jackets fan it’s pretty funny to watch though
This makes me think how calm the coaching staffs and GM of Tampa was last season, Vasilevsky missed the beginning of the season and left a meh young goaltender the spot … and once Vasy was back he was clearly not at 100%.
Had a record similar to the Rangers, but didn’t panic at all, made 0 significative moves, because they had confidence in the roster they had built … and they still have the meh goaltender to this day.
As a Dallas Stars fan, the only disrespect of having our team at 10 is that we don't deserve it. Losing to Nashville, Chicago, Buffalo, Anaheim, and taken to OT by San Jose. All 5 are bottom row teams. I feel like even 12 is too high with how the team is playing.
I went to the Sabres game in San Jose a few weeks ago. We completed a perfect road trip out west and was sitting 3rd in the Atlantic, I was so hyped. Literally have not won a SINGLE game since then, and sitting 32 on the power rankings (which is deserved). The amount of disappointment and despair I feel every year watching this team is unreal, 14 years and counting 🌴🌴🌴
You should always expect the Sabres to win against San Jose and should never read too much into it. There are occasional games where it doesn't happen, but even when San Jose was in cup contention and the Sabres were bottoming out in their rebuild, they always seemed to have the Sharks' numbers. Fortunately the Sharks have a similar relationship with some other teams (Habs/Flyers are probably at the top of that list)
Buffalo plays like a junior team
As a Rangers fan im glad they are going through this it will show who are the players that pull themselves up
I feel like I read somewhere that Demko will never be able to fully recover from his current nagging injury, and that he will just have to “learn to play with it”. Brutal.
As a Wild fan i'm glad to see them out of the top spot. Great rankings as usual. The only thing I could maybe disagree with is I think Winnipeg should be in the top row, maybe switch them and Toronto.
Buffalo does the same thing every year. At the start of the season, they play decently and give their fans hope , but by late November they just seem to collapse.
Is it the lake effect snow?
Is there something in the water after Thanksgiving?
Too much turkey and tryptophan at the team Thanksgiving Dinner?
As a Blues fan since 1968, hang in there Sabres fans. It took me 52 years to see my team win The Cup. Hopefully you’ll get one soon, too. (Too bad RJ didn’t live to see one. 😢)
RJ is rolling around in his grave unfortunately because this team won’t make the playoffs for the next 20 years let alone go after a cup
Homie, I just want a team that can even make me care to turn the TV on for them.
imo TOP 10 should be *Caps, Wild, Devils, Oilers, Vegas* (6-0 loss v UTAH, 6-3 loss in EDM, 3-2 home W v DAL, 3-2 comeback OTW in WPG, 4-1 W in Anaheim is less impressive than Oilers play since 3-0 loss in MTL on Nov 18), *Panthers in 6th* (3rd best in EAST is as high as they deserve seeing NJ beat them twice in both meetings and WSH record is fantastic, but above TOR seems correct for FLA), *Kings at 7, Leafs at 8* (losing in DET means below LA, who, thanks to San Jose, are not a top 3 team in the West based soley on total points after 30 games played. LA is playing very well.). *Jets at 9, Lightning 10, Canes 11, Stars 12, Avs 13* but imo Calgary are way too high; I see them behind SEA then UTAH or BOS, VAN and OTT, who they lost to 4-3 on Nov 25 for what that's worth.
Edmonton above Vegas feels increasingly fair seeing they were very unlucky to lose 1-0 in Vegas with how they clearly outplayed the Golden Knights, even in their home rink, for the final two periods. Adin Hill unquestionably won them that game. If not for that undeserving result, EDM are above Vegas in the standings and after today they would be 9-1-0 in their last 10 games played with their only loss to the 2nd best of 32 teams at the time, Minnesota Wild, on Nov 21 (13-3-3 after that evening, Jets were 17-3-0 after Nov 22 Friday night win in PIT).
Feels like Rangers players have quit on Drury after all the polarizing moves he made the last few months.
Seeing THG in the white Utah jersey confirms that I made the right choice ordering it over the home one.
As hard as it is to stand by this team, good decisions aren’t made in frustration or panic. We have good players, we have a good head coach, GMKA has only been here 4 years and has done relatively well with a bad hand. How do we move forward? Do we have top notch support staff? It’s really hard for fans because we don’t see what goes on behind the scenes. Personally, I believe we need a coach or two in this organization from outside of hockey. A champion, like GSP, who can speak to the mindset and behind the scenes work ethic it takes to be world class in any competition. Someone to bring these guys together. John Kabat-Zinn, a mindfulness teacher and renowned Phd who has worked with Olympians to overcome mental obstacles. We need to start being progressive in the changes we make to this organization and not just fire him or trade him. While I do think we should be open to trading certain pieces if it makes long term sense, it can’t just be for the sake of optics.
Both the coach and the gm aren't good.
Hypnotist? I'd try that. 😵💫 You will hit your opponent. You will score every shot. You will clear the front of your net and intimidate your opponents. You will bash and stand your ground in front of their goalie. Etc
Finally my hockey dad has posted this morning

As a sabres fan. Can you just do a 31 team power ranking and leave the sabres at 32 until they make the playoffs. Cuz they just don't deserve anything else. Idc if they're first in the league. Cuz we've seen that and they ruined that too.
Hmmm…not sure how Winnipeg moves off the top line as they only lost 2 of their last 6 and one was in OT??? The Leafs lost 3 of their last 6…and the wins were just by 1 goal. I get that it’s just the Jets and week after week people were waiting for the losses to come. BUT they were the first team to 20 wins….still first overall. How does that compute?. Lol
Team hasn't looked anything like the team from the start of the season in the last dozen games or so. I've got no problem with their placement as it's been a while since they won against a good team.
I probably would have had them 7th honestly. I think on the season they'll still finish out strong, but if you're looking at just the current level of play, it's hard to ignore that they're 4-5-1 in their last 10. Getting off to the hottest start ever gave them a ton of wiggle room to play with and unfortunately, they seem determined to see just how far that'll stretch.
As a Dallas fan, even I think Winnipeg dropping this week is crazy. They are something like 6-1-1in their last 7 games, And did the league a favor by destroying the Bruins.
I think they should have stayed in the same spot or better
The Jets "only lost 2 of their last 6" quickly becomes losing 6 of their last 10 when you go further back. Do similar for the Leafs and losing 3 of the last 6 turns into losing 4 of their last 13.
@@maxfish4270 they've had injuries. that 4 game losing streak was two weeks ago.
Utah vs Vancouver will be a good one on Wednesday👀fighting to stay close to a playoff spot
As a Caps fan, this is so fun to watch. The moves they made in the offseason with Thompson, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Chychrun, and even the reunion with Eller… they’ve been gelling so well. The young guys are all over the ice and making plays. And the mainstays are performing as well as anyone could hope for. That locker room is having fun and they look and feel very confident. And that’s been without Ovi for 3 weeks now. Excited to see what these guys can do down the stretch.
Just need to stay healthy at this point. We’ll have Ovi soon and maybe even Ryan Leonard come playoff time
That’s a nice sweater THG!
Canes have multiple issues going on. The offense is sputtering. Some high-paid players aren’t contributing to the scoring (aside from an occasional PPG or ENG). The defense is very offense-minded and gets caught pinching in too many times-giving up too many odd-man rushes, and too many breakaways.
And turning to goaltending: Canes have two goaltenders seemingly made of glass. With Andersen out (surprise surprise), Kochetkov launching himself into traffic, and getting concussed, leaves the team with two AHL goalies. The GM really needs to address this problem and soon! Other teams have been drooling at the chances to play against the Canes right now.
And on top of all that, Rod keeps shuffling lines and making (in many fans’ opinion) seemingly random lines, and destroying the opportunity to build line chemistry. There’s a lot of blame to go around. There’s also so much potential to do much better.
Every team gets into a rut once in a season (it would seem). Some just last longer than others. They will come around. So IMHO will Dallas, Boston and the Rangers (to varying degrees). Cheers.
Ottawa deserved a bit more of a bump IMO but this 9 game road trip is going to be massive for this team!! And really show where they are!
Definitely. The play in Carolina particularly stood out. They’ve are playing to their talent levels for the last 2 games, especially the tenacity to take the OT win. That mentality wasn’t there before.
Let’s see them sustain that level for a while before they get the jump up on the board though.
Agreed, I believe the Sens deserved better especially how they played in their last 10 games. Ullmarks looks dialed in and seems all 4 lines are cooking right now.
The Senators now have a .533 points percentage. The Canucks above them have a .603.
I wonder if the Jets are the first team to find themselves in THG's second row despite being first overall.
The Jets had a 4 game losing streak, lost to the Blue Jackets, and needed OT to beat the Sabres.
LA looking like a team that ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT want to finish 2nd or 3rd in the PAC this year. Can you really blame them?
As someone who flies a bit, always find going west to east harder than east to west.
The legend of the Caps Flex continues.
Thank you for this video, always love to watch this power ranking
Capitals tanked in 2022-23 to get Ryan leonard and now are casually the best team in the league.
Caps were hoping to tank for Michkov but he didn't want to be in the shadow of Ovie.
Ryan Leonard will be a better fit in the future.
And Montreal passed on both Michkov and Leonard to pick ... Reinbacher???
I had faith my caps would earn numba 1. Gj thg. I don't watch recaps all they way through. But the power rankings I do. Enjoy your sunday!
very glad thg is back in the recommended, peak relaxation videos
The Caps are playing much the same game they did last year, except that now they seem to have finally perfected it. Same guys making same plays but now it's more often right on rather than off by an inch or two like last year. Thompson has been a big help too. Can't help but mention Wilson as well, he's been a great leader in Ovechkin's absence.
D is a bit worrying, especially for all the odd-man rushes we gave up the past few games, and I don't think bring Tiger back has had the effect we all hope it have, the thrid line is still not quite there yet, but it's getting better. Hope we can polish those sharp edges by the time playoffs come
Cap's McMichael, Protas along Strome elevated play this season prove to be this season even with Ovi out. Wilson leading the way now.
Jets should be above Leafs. Jet’s clobbered Red Wings. Leafs lose. More bias against the Jets!! 😡
Pretty sure the Leafs haven't had a 4 game losing streak this season.
Ottawa should be higher. They look good. I think the last two wildcards will be between Boston, Philly, Rangers, Ottawa and the Isles. I think Philly has enough to potentially make it. I think Tampa gets in the top 3 in the Atlantic.
Ottawa needs to continue proving.
HEY SHANNON! That Utah Jersey looks good on ya eh?! Happy Holiday's from Arizona. Fans in Arizona still love their team, it wasn't gonna work with Alex Meruelo. 😊
Can't wait for you're Christmas Theme, how about all Holidays, it's fun to watch

Guessing the Sabres haven’t climbed in the rankings.
Some surprise rankings after the top 13 teams this week. I feel the Rangers could still be above the Isles but agree that NYR need to be lower than OTT and PHI. PIT and NYR are essentially tied but with a 12-12-7 record for Isles with wins at home v CAR 4-3, and in OTT 4-2, they still need to improve a lot. After leading 4-2 in Washignton after 40 min, the CAPS crushed them after realizing they took the Isles for granted; NYI finished the final 23min with 3 shots on goal and lost 5-4 in OT. Losing to MTL in OT and nearly going to OT at home with the 9-17-2 Blackhawks today sums up their desire to win games.
The only real major concern I have from all 32 teams, because like usual you still did very well in placing these teams, would be that Utah should be above the Calgary Flames who looked terrible in 7 of their previous 8 games. Calgary are playing worse than your Canucks who only lost 4-2, not 8-3, to Tampa, but like Calgary they lost 4-3 in OT to St.Louis on home ice and shutout the Panthers all in the past week. VAN is placed perfectly at 17, Boston 16, Utah 15, Seattle 14. Calgary should be a lot lower down the board than 13. Florida scoring zero in VAN and CGY says more about them than Calgary after losing 6-2 in DAL, 8-3 v TB, 5-2 in CBJ, 6-2 in PIT, 4-3 OTL with STL and narrowly winning 4-3 to a bottom Nashville team. Utah since their 4-3 OTL to a solid Oilers team with Pickard in goal have looked playoff bound.
I agree with the Wild dropping a spot. They absolutely got destroyed by the Oilers. And they have a tough week ahead with games against Vegas, Panthers, Utah & the Jets. Good thing Brodin & Zuccy are back.
Hey Ma!!! The Kraken made the 2nd row!!!!!
Good morning all from Texas!
Rangers are on a bullet train to that last spot.
Good morning everyone! Thanks for the video Shannon!
Stars lose to the second worst team in hockey - “I don’t think they should be penalized for that loss.”
Flyers lose to the second best team in hockey - drops three spots.
Really?
Flyers also lost to Utah last Sunday
What about the Flyers loss to the Hockey Club? And to the Bruins? And to the Panthers? What about the Stars recent wins against the Blues, Flames, Hockey Club, and Jets compared to the Flyers recent wins against the bottom row Red Wings and bottom row Blue Jackets?
Could've said that about canucks loss to bruins too, it's getting worse the team bias...
So the Sens can win 3 straight, dominate Carolina which you barely mentioned, move 2 games above .500 and into a playoff spot in one week, and they only “deserve” 1 spot? Come on, that’s ridiculous
The Senators have a points percentage of .533. The Canucks above them are at .603.
If the Sens have another strong week, they'll be leapfroging 3-4 teams.
Pierre Luc Dubois for Selke! 🎉
Nah he still sucks lol

@@Sethstrat No, but both the Jets and now the Kings have become better teams without him.

Kings @ Islanders, 3-1, SOG 30-20
Kings @ Devils, 1-3, SOG 14-26
Kings @ Rangers, 5-1, SOG 32-32

THG you are so entertaining, a true and honest guy.Greetings from Europe
The bruins still look like frauds to me even after the 5-1 win last night over the canucks.
Not bad, tho I place the Oil at number 3.
Here we go with the Rankings! Whoo hoo😊
When was the last time caps were #1? 2017?
Dec 21st 2019, the 6th 1st place that season and the end of a 4 week stretch. That is the only previous season they were 1st in full season power rankings. They were 3rd 3 times in 2017-18 and I don't have the numbers for 2016-17 as THG started them late and didn't always do all teams.
For Florida I myself think they should have dropped to 10 spot.
Shannon what site do you use to buy your pucks?
The Metro had seemed like a murderer's row earlier in the season. How things have changed. Rangers have nosedived and Columbus and Islanders haven't kept going.
But they do have three top 10 teams in the league, including the best in the entire league. Not surprised with the rangers fall, Peter Laviolette will do that to a team
@@ben_cross21 yes, he has a history of his new team being good first season and tailing off.
As mentioned in the recap , not a Funtime if you are a Ranger fan .. Laviolette was furious after the first goal , then clearly disgusted as they piled up .. The fact is last year , if the rangers gave up an early soft goal , he had no problem calling a timeout and embarrassing them with a public tongue lashing .. This year , crickets .. Understanding that maybe it doesn’t work but it’s seeming more to me Lavv has his bags half packed and he can’t force them to play anywhere close to their level , the team is playing like a beaten team that is waiting to lose and it’s on the coach to break that up , shake things up more , send the defense to Hartford and bring up the Wolfpack defense , can’t do worse !
I‘m honestly pissed that my Rangers didn’t make it all the way through to the bottom. They‘re working so hard to make it there. Shannon, you should really acknowledge that! 🥴
Wtf is happening there? Should’ve been challenging for another presidents trophy
So are my panthers we’ve been shut out the last 2 games why aren’t we in the bottom row this is ridiculous
This team has quit on its GM. And I can‘t really blame them for that. The only thing I wish is for one of the so-called leaders to come out, step up, and say what is wrong. They owe it to their fans. Instead it‘s that "We know we‘re not good enough" crap night in and night out.
Carolina will be joining you down there at the bottom 🫡

23:35 I agree with your statement. Hill had a bad stretch in the second period. Good on the Oilers for the win but I thought Vegas played a really good road game despite the score.
I dont think Hill had a bad stretch at all. You allow the Oilers to have that many shots in the low slot 3-10 feet in front of the net, you should be expecting to get lit up.
@ can’t argue with that. He does give up a lot of rebounds though and I should of also said the Dmen had a bad stretch as well 😄
Three Pacific teams on the top row. Vegas, Oilers, and Kings is an interesting watch because the top 2 finishers open at home in the playoffs while the 3rd place finisher which has been the Kings of late opens on the road.
C.A.P.S… CAPS CAPS CAPS!!!
Clearly THG is doing the Power Rankings backwards because Sabres should be number 1!
Something's off with Vancouver right now, for sure. Trade Hoglander and a high pick for a solid second pairing defenceman already!
Best way to wake up is to a Shannon video
Tuned in to see how much Utah moved up and see he is wearing a Utah jersey!
Canucks take 1 step forward. 2 back and then 2 forward. 1 back
