Literally the only way I could beat her on my first run, granted I am a lot more experienced now, but dual hoslow petal whips with cold affinity fucking melted her
The charged R2 true combos into the R1, and with the axe talisman and charged attack physick its close to a one shot. You can also use the spear talisman, as the stabby part of the urumi charge attack is thrust damage and can get counter hits
Urumi is tied with Morgott’s Cursed Sword for my favorite weapon in the game. Kicks the rear end in PvP, and is super fun in PvE, especially when paired with Royal Knight’s Resolve. I’m glad you got to see how fun this thing really is.
The fact that this man just calmly no hit so many bosses in his challenge runs amazes me. With any build, any boss, under so many different circumstances, he can just sit back, relaxing, and no hit bosses like it’s nothing. The circling around, perfect spacing and all the strategic maneuvers are so skillful and just plain awesome. I strive for skills like this in all Fromsoftware games, which are all I play ha, so I learn a lot from streamers like this, especially GinoMachino. Thanks for all your content man! I love watching your video. Keep doing what you’re doing 👍
Not going to lie, it’s fun to watch someone of God-Tier-Gino’s skill level smash the roll button like a mere mortal every now and again. Very relatable.
I don't know if you've already done the bow only run but, in my experience, shooting Radahn spears from a Golem's Greatbow with Radahn's Greatbow in the offhand is surprisingly strong.
The magma attack on Placid is insane if you use it more on the main body. I think it starts to hit multiple hitboxes at once because mine melts that boss WAY faster. Just throwing it at the tail does minimal damage. If you feel like trying it again, use the ash of war on the body. You'll notice a massive difference plus you'll break his poise pretty quickly.
My first build in elden ring was an arcane/dex bleed whips build. For bosses it was okay, but for invaders, they rued the day. The weird erratic hit box, makes it extremely easy to interrupt peoples dodge rolls.
I've been running Petal Whip and Thorned whip with cold enchants since day one, getting a cold and bleed proc in a single combo does nutty damage! My friends were all angry when I beat Melania within 3 deaths on my first playthrough
The range of the Urumi would be longer, but for whatever reason, the 2 hit lands a bit to the right while locked on, making it miss often at a whips preferred range.
Twin whips + arcane was my first character, petal whip and the fat monk one, one bleed one frost and bloodhounds step. The backstep and sprinting attacks are actually pretty good
this is super weird because i just started a playthrough using only whips maybe last week. they're a lot of fun to use, but take a lot of getting used to imo
On the godskin noble fight, urumi should have been the play. That fat boi has high strike resistance which far outweighs the damage you gain from any bleed procs. On the other hand, he is weak to slash damage which the urumi inflicts.
Did whips for my first run for a Belmont-esque thing, with a straight sword for backup and throwables. Castlevania style. It was amazing fun, not quite as punchy on bigger bosses but they are absolute murder for human sized enemies. So much range too! I'd love to see some more added in the DLC.
It is kinda funny how alot of speedrunners are actually very unfamiliar with the game they run outside of what they do for their speed runs. Like I just assume speed runners must know pretty much everything about a game. But if you watch pretty much any speed runner play just casually. Not speed running. They get surprised and see stuff they have never really seen before because they have never had to see it before. Cuz its not in the speed route.
Anyone complaining about Gino using CheatEngine at all needs to understand that he's done like 200 fucking runs on the game. I'm not sinking 40 hours into every playthrough just to get my build going. On my 5th fucking strength playthrough I'm using CheatEngine.
I always do frost & bleed/bloodflame with dual petal whips. The endless frost build up combined with the blood loss usually melts most bosses & enemies
I seriously thought I invented the claw grip. I thought it was ridiculous and awkward at first, but it was very effective once I got it down, so I started doing it all the time. A few weeks ago I saw a whole ass article about "claw grip", and I was like, "whoa, I wonder if that's how I hold the controller?", and it was. I thought I was an innovator, but people have prob been doing that since DS
Even before Dark Souls. I'm doubtful it originates from Monster Hunter but the early Monster Hunter games were the earliest I've heard of the claw grip

I've mucked about with it in PvP as well and the startup on that second hit of the charged R2 is amazing. it catches out so many people because it's so fast and has great range.
When 100% this game my third and final playthrough i challenged myself to do a whip only run (since the only achievement left was the regular ending) and it was the most fun i had in elden ring. Excited for this vid
On my first playthrough, I dual-wielded petal whip with bloodhound step on occult. Insane stagger and damage, killed Melania on second attempt, I did not even know how hard boss she is until I saw other players struggle with her. So whips are pretty much easy mode.
I did a full run with Urumi, made it Keen, paired it with the Buckler and parried everything and spammed charged R2. It's one of my favorite weapons now
I love your runs, and your voice is honestly super chill and casual, I dig watching you. I just wish I was as good, I can't even parkour across the castles after Margit 😢 been stuck for weeks.
I did a dual whip run recently and it’s probably the most fun I’ve had since my first play through on launch. After a thousand+ hours in the game I still get surprised.
Great timing, because I honestly want to do a beast tamer build. I was thinking rapier, whips and crossbows as my main 3. Maybe I need to get going on that.

Before the blood patch and whip patch (yes, when people finally start using whips they get hella nerfed)the Urumi with heavy damage or frostbite is pretty good, i duel wielded the thorn whips and hoslow but put frost on hoslow
If you haven't done it yet, Bow only is pretty fun, very slow to start, just farming souls and materials for arrows takes a while early on. Once you have a stockpile it becomes pretty simple, if a little slow on some enemies.
The jump L1 poise damage back in early game (like way before 1.10) used to be really solid and whips I'd say were genuinely overpowered (this was back before they nerfed power stancing status buildup too).
Mind blown to see raid ads still happening. Saw this an thought it was an old vid but then i saw champions that just came out an was like wait a minnnnn
Great video! I think I need to do a whip playthorugh now. Once I finish my current golden order run. For Archery-only runs. I did one and it was FUN. Only drawback is early game you do need to farm a lot to buy arrows. Other than that it is a super fun playthrough. Once you have Lions and Black bow you are an unstoppable god! 🙂 I am thinking about doing a crossbow only run at some stage too. That may be a lot more challenging but ...
This is my second video I have watched completely on the channel. First watched the shields only on all 165 loved that video. This video was also fun but there was something special about watching the 165 shield only. Would love to see a 165 of bows only I feel like that would be a lot of fun.
