      For me too 4G is not that bad especially here in my country 5G is not that much great with n78 only. But i think the cons for this is the price, thanks Chris for sharing your thoughts if this Mate 50 Pro, btw this 50 Pro have same features like apple satellite emergency something like that it Huawei have partnered with Baidu.

    Huawei continues to make great devices. Huawei has taken a very good position in the tablet, watch and computer business and I guess they will return to its old days in the phone business in the next period. Huawei mate 50 pro is definitely a device that will be of interest to anyone who loves technology. I hope I will have the chance to experience it soon. Thanks for the review Chris. Hope to see comparison of mate 50 pro with next flagship devices.

    A solid flagship offering from Huawei indeed! 👍For me the lack of 5g is not a deal breaker at all. I have no true 5g network and will not be any time soon. I love how Huawei keeps pushing forward in terms of innovation. That variable mechanical aperture on the main camera is next level! All that being said, although the notch allows for 3d face unlocking, which is great. But I personally cannot handle day to day usage, with that distraction on the screen!
    Thank you Sir Chris for another well rounded review 👌👌

    Still rocking the P30 Pro... it's still a photography beast. I used to change phones close to every bathroom break xD , but I've stuck to this one for so long, it's insane. I'm just not really that enamored by the competition, but I'm also reluctant to give up the out-of-the-box Android/Play Store experience or missing out on 5G network capability. Such a shame they had to target Huawei. As if Apple, Samsung, Facebook/Meta etc aren't doing shady things. It's kinda what you'd expect. Seems like a great phone, the Mate 50 Pro. But the P30 Pro will probably be the last Huawei to own, unless they drop the sanctions and are back in the game again. For a while I had my hopes up for OnePlus... as they announced they'd be collaborating with Hasselblad. However, that seemed to pretty much contain itself to using the branding on the phone. Bit of a disappointment.
    Sony... cool features, but the pricing is high and the results still can't really compete with all the AI processing in the other flagships. Xiaomi had that Mi 11 Ultra which I found very interesting and since then have started a collaboration with Leica after they jumped ship from the S.S. Huawei. So, I'm keen to see what's next for them as the 13 Series should be soon announced.
    Vivo is the last in the list, but probably the most likely to provide me with a worthy successor to the P30 Pro. I liked their X70 Pro+, but wasn't swayed enough. Their X80 Series missed out on a Pro+ version. In the next month or two we'll probably get introduced to the X90 Pro+ and I believe that will finally be what I was looking for. My P30 Pro screen has cracks, it can't charge through USB anymore, only wirelessly, so it's really starting to be on its last breath...

    Great, thorough, balanced review, as always.
    Shame the Mate 50 Pro isn't 5G, but like you say, it's only really an option in the city where I live, in rural areas even 4G can be patchy. I'm sure that's typical of most prospective purchasers out there.
    Brilliant news that Google apps are becoming less problematic for Huawei devices - my mum has the P40 Lite and certain apps weren't working (though, I haven't seen her for about a year :D)
    My holy grail phone, and one I still miss, (though I have a ZTE Axon 30 Ultra now) was the Mate 20X. Always hoped Huawei would bring out a successor - maybe the "ban" didn't help as far as developing new mobile phone models (look at how many variants and models Xiaomi releases in comparison!).

    Mate 40 Pro is a legend, the Mate 50 Pro continue that trend, but it's harder and harder to recommend Huawei these days.
    I would like to see much bigger batteries( 6000mah like ROG6 will make it really standout), better speakers and cameras can make it really standout, and be viable options despite the lack of GMS(Gspace emulation eates battery)

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  2 роки тому +1

      Cameras in this model are better than an iPhone 14 Pro (Not video) and they are a big step up I feel. Speakers are still great, but yes more battery would be better however the drain has been very good if you use balanced mode. Easily get it over 7- 7 1/2 hours SOT.

    I don't like this kind of heavy curvature of the screen bezels. My P30 Pro luckily is less curved on the sides. I don't like the price: 1,300€ (not sold in Italy BTW). I could live using GSpace, since the only thing missing is GPay. I could live without 5G either. The RYYB sensor is improved a lot compared to my P30 Pro. The problematic colours on my phone are orange and purple, becoming yellow and pink. On the Mate 50 Pro the colours look correct, whiich is good! I see the sensor amplifies the yellow colour at night.

    Drop vs Notch makes no difference, and notch usually means less sacrifices. Turning on black background in notch area makes this look 10 times better on oled screens. As for the phone this seems like a refined version of mate 30 pro which is a great thing in my opinion

  • @francescomengoli6994
    @francescomengoli6994 2 роки тому +3

    Thanks for the review as always Chris. I quite disagree on the software side.
    I've been using my P40 Pro for the past 16 months or so and i'm quite tired of not having GMS.
    I think that the more time passes the less effort is Huawei putting into its own app store and just lets third party ones do the work.
    However, compatibility issues are still present the moment you venture out of the most used apps, and some of the big ones do not work either (i think Discord is still broken for example). EMUI 12 also broke most launcher apps if you do not want to use the barebone stock one.
    Even my phone carrier tells me their app is not compatible and then works fine; that's the level of care AppGallery gets. Not to mention all the apps i've bought on the Playstore that i can no longer access, and i can't even buy again since those are not for sale on other stores.
    Month after month there are always quite a few annoyances that exist only due to HMS. Couple that with the crazy 1299€ pricetag and the fact that the whole phone is good but not stellar makes this phone quite the awful buy; in particular when the competition comes in at 950€ for the S22 Ultra or 899€ with the watch for the Pixel 7 Pro.
    I'll keep using my P40 Pro for the time being, since it's still usable for the most part, but will never buy an HMS device again.

    • @Granturion
      @Granturion 2 роки тому +1

      I second this. The alternatives are too good now and huawei gets lazy especially on the software side.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  2 роки тому +2

      I guess it's more per use case as I have found every app I use with ease via AppGallery or Petal search. I remember the first time without GMS I couldn't install apps due to a phrase error or other issues. True that went away as many developers made their apps so they could run without the Google Framework. I remember seeing the dreaded "Google framework required" on boot and then apps wouldn't load. Mostly games.
      The only thing running the GSpace way for the odd Gapp I do need is the battery life takes a bit of a hit. I agree with the pricing it's a bit of an ask for sure factoring in it is HMS not GMS. Compared to the Pixel 7 Pro I have here would rather have this phone with far better battery life, the SD8+Gen1, better thermals over Tensor and really I would only miss the pixel's cameras.

    • @Cristi323
      @Cristi323 2 роки тому

      I run my Huawei P40 lite without Gspace and I still dont have any problems with the applications. I must add that I even run different corporate specific apps, which are not very familiar to the casual user. Everyone seems to be ignoring this fact, but in all this dirty war, the playstore/GMS found its self with some actual competition, which is really good for us, the users. In the future, this will guarantee a healthy non-abusive presence on the market, for all sides. This way, what happend with Huawei application support might not be possible with other brands anymore. Cheers!

    I'm not bothered about no 5G, but I am about its pricing compared to other 5G phones. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall the reason for the bump in phone prices was attributed to the inclusion of a 5G modem in the newer chips. This does not have that modem, seemingly, so does everything else in this phone justify the price?

    It's simply too expensive in Europe, especially in Spain where it's even €100 higher than in many other European countries. Also, the Xiaomi 13 ultra will be released in around 2 weeks. Apparently that will have some form of USB 3.x and also support 4k on the front camera. According to some Chinese sources I read, Xiaomi's previous fast charging only supports USB 2.x. Apparently they have figured out how to use USB 3.x though with fast charging up to 90w ans the Xiaomi 13 ultra is rumored to come with this 90w fast charging and USB 3.x. It might be q good option in few months if it drops in price by about €500 to €900ish but only worth buying with a significant discount
