God bless the siding guy that’s a lot of work!

I really love how simple the form of this house is and how the “wow” is really in the intricate details. It’s what I’d like to go for when I design my house.

I did a lot of this type of siding. We never used razor knife and planer for the corners. Instead, apply a shingle to position, mark the back side with a pencil, and cut with a small handheld circular saw.

Beautiful work! I love what you're doing with the shingles at the windows. I'll be incorporating that kind of detailing into my future work.

ho no those skylights might leak some day.. but love the black gutters.. the lack of window molding and roof overhang though would increase the moisture burden on the house from rain it would seem..though they might be fine

We shingled our beach house with Maybec white cedar shingles around 7 years ago. Great warranty on the coating…iirc, 15 years. Unfortunately, the stain is peeling off in a few areas so my contractor is working with them on the warranty.
They’ve agreed to reimburse us to purchase stain but they haven’t authorized reimbursement for the painters work. They were expensive and they should pay for more than just the replacement stain.

Interesting - I hope they come through for you. I chose Maibec water based finish. It’s not really a full stain, more of a protective coat to get you through the weathering stage to a natural weathered appearance.

With the high end build you client demanded in a most respectful way I'm surprised there aren't censers strategically placed to monitor temperature, moisture or even the movement. 10 to 70 years of data would be prof of concept, we all know that the experts some times get it wrong.
Not judging just looking for what works long term. . . . great channel I'm a fan . . .Danny

I know you work with a lot of high-end builders. But I am curious. How did you go about finding them? I come from the construction industry, I hear all kinds of workers claim they are good and after seeing their work, they were horrible. I have worked with a lot. What do you look for, how do you find them, vet them?

Great question, I worked as a toolmaker for 40 so years and came to find only 7 to 10 % of my coworkers were A+, so you learn fast the ones to trust. With contractors I have found the ones that paint the most rosy picture use water colors, so ask them about their worst job, see how fast they run.

    • @julianugentarchitect
      @julianugentarchitect 2 роки тому +2

For quality, ask the trade that follows about the work of the previous trade. For example, the painter can tell you if the plasterer was good.

@@julianugentarchitect that's great and all. But I am also talking about people that have come "highly" recommended. And they mostly turned out to be crap. I think most people today have come to settle for less. Because honestly, I don't think most people know what they are looking at when it comes to good work.

What’s the point of having corner glass without a mullion , when there is a column just inside of the corner? The view is blocked anyway and you get an ugly pipe instead of a finished corner.

Why caulk between sill and pan? What about drainage for water that gets behind that area?

    • @NSBuilders

No water should ever make its way back there. If it does we would have bigger issues. These are more like commercial units, compared to typical residential units.

Tesla roof is actually sourcing high grade panels for that type of application.reach out to them. Roof solar panels and batteries, substantial
Investment for the future, especially combined w/ quality roof already installed. Inside Teslas' guidelines. Peace

Tesla Solar Roof system is unique and very good tech, but their solar panels are inferior technology (no micro-inverters, low efficiency). There are many great panel companies with far better specs (LG, Panasonic, REC, etc.). Also lots of good battery options.
