You've always been an inspiring & talented cook, but I must say, in comparison to others on UA-cam I very much appreciate that your instructions are to the point and not bogged down with overly detailed instructions & personal chat. I'm 58 y/o, I don't need instructions on how to heat oil or cut up an onion! You are genuine & eminently watchable, cooking the most addictive food in the world; thanks for the many wonderful recipes.
I’m a Korean American adoptee & l watch your channel like other adoptees to learn to cook Korean food. So just want to say thank you for making food simple & not overwhelming. I fry these tofu with just green onions& soy sauce. My husband who’s not Asian absolutely loves them. 🎉🎊🥳 He’s a great cook so it’s a HUGE accomplishment for a lazy cook like me. 🤓😂💕🎊
Hi Maangchi! I believe this is the first recipe of yours I saw more than 10 years ago (could be wrong) and how I stumbled upon your channel. It’s what got me into Korean cooking because I was vegetarian at the time and looking for different options. Been following you since and have all your cook books!! Just wanted to let you know that I’ve improved in my Korean cooking since then and am definitely cooking more than tofu. Thank you for all your content!!
My kids grew up watching your videos and they love Korean food. Watching you made them unafraid to try new foods. Thank you for being so wonderful, so consistent and such a great teacher. You're the best!
I am so happy that Korean food taught me that it's okay to make a meal of a bunch of things. It makes it much easier to have a "meal" without having to overthink it. I have been doing this with kimchi, rice, and a couple side dishes (something for protein, and another veg if I have it) lately and it is very good for the hot summer.
I enjoy every tofu recipe you have published. Thank you for teaching me ways to eat tofu without getting bored of it. Lots of love from the Pacific Northwest 🧡
Fried tofu is one of my favourite dishes! So spicy and yummy 😋 Thank you Maangchi for sharing your beautiful recipes with us! Greetings from Serbia 🇷🇸❤
Exactly this. At my local market a pound of extra firm organic tofu is $2.98 ( 2 meals) a dozen organic local eggs are $3.99 (3 meals). There are no other proteins that are as affordable as eggs and tofufor my son and I. I'm not vegetarian by any means but at this point I can rarely afford to buy meat.
I'm still trying to learn. I've had tofu in California and just learned that it makes a good substitute for scrambled eggs (since I've never liked scrambled eggs).
@@canaisyoung3601 "Scrambled tofu" is something I've made over and over. I used to be an egg eater, but now avoid them most of the time. You can season up that scramble any way you want to but my basic deal involves sauteed onions, peppers, and garlic sometimes fruit, always turmeric, maybe sage, black pepper, smoked paprika--just whatever strikes my fancy that day. I think of potatoes and rice the same way, even beans--so many different and great ways to fix 'em up. Turmeric gives great color AND also fights cancer.
@@robertedwards659 It's very much healthy by all the studies I follow. Perhaps you've not been exposed to the best information. Simplified: folks who eat more Tofu have less medical problems, including cancer according to population studies. If you have better sources of information I'd look at them. What nutritional deficiencies do you find in tofu?
Thank You Maangchi! I made it and of course it was Delicious! So Easy! Much love to you! I have been watching your videos for almost 10 years! God Bless You!
This recipe is so nostalgic. We migrated to Australia from Korea more than 30 years ago and was difficult to find korean ingredients at the time but tofu was easily accessible. My dad loves this dish and mum used to make it often, it was a staple 반찬 in our family. I also love your top, reminds me of the old school 떡볶이 plates. Please keep up your channel as my little brother and I rely on it for korean cooking!
Yes, this pan-fried tofu with the seasoning sauce is one of the most popular recipes among Koreans for a long time! I’m glad to hear your story! Thank you for sharing!
As im learning to make vegetarian korean food your videos are very helpful to me,plus you are very sweet and polite and explain very well, looking forward for more vegetarian food recipes 👍🫰
I haved lived in Korea for15 years. This is probably my single favorite 반찬 /side dish. The advantage of making this at home: it can become the main dish 😂!
I've never eaten tofu. I know it takes on the flavors of what you cook it with. This dish looks delicious so its time to give tofu a try. Who knows?? I just might like it and if Maangchi says its good, I believe her! 😊 THX MAANGCHI! 💗 Your the best!🙏
Love this! Quick and easy late snack or a meal if served with rice. That said, Gochugaru comes in different size flakes, fine to coarse. I wonder which one is best for this dish.
I just tried this! Just added a little more garlic than your recipe calls for and a little more soy sauce and also some Indian chili powder I happened to have on hand. it was delicious thank you!
Like frying tofu like this and then covering with mix of syrup, gochujang, sesame oil, apple cider and garlic and spring onion... So tasty. And I normally don't like tofu. Thank you!
Maangchi I love your videos and voice of joy in the world. Thank you! I am an American who was raised by Korean parents. Unusual? Yup! That said, when I was forgetting how to speak Korean language, in the early 2000's I watched the video series Dae Jang Geum (대장금) to help me remember. It was a great traditional Korean drama/story. Quite inspiring, really. I had no idea about her before I watched the show. But, I also learned to love how to cook, and asked mom to teach me. And, your videos have helped me too. (Don't tell mom 😅) So, I had an idea . . . I don't know if it's possible, but I wonder if maybe you might produce a series of videos reviewing episodes of 大長今 and teach how to make her recipes. (And, you could ad philosophical/hitorical commentary 😊 🇰🇷) Would that work? I would love it! Maybe KBS would support you in spreading Korean culture and healthy cooking. 🙏 🤲 💙
Maangchi, could you also add the sauce to the pan towards the end of cooking to really let the flavours meld together? Also cook down the onions a little? Maybe after emptying some oil ✨🤓
Maangchi, I LOVE YOU!! Literally, I LOVE YOU!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ I always give your recipes to my friends who ask me how to make delicious Korean foods. And they always give me positive feedbacks. There are lots of simple recipes, but yours is the best and authentic like my mom or grandma’s. THANK YOU for your posting and videos!!!
@@Maangchi Yes, I mean it! One of my bestie asked me how to make bulgogi sauce because her friend's husband is Korean and she wanted to make some Korean food for his birthday. I gave her your recipe and a few days later, she texted me "Thank you! He loved it!!"

Eating vegan/vegetarian is so normal in other countries. I wonder what happened to mine to make folks so afraid of veggies.
