This may sound trivial but I so love how Maangchi always films when she washes her hands/her utensils/her ingredients. It´s something I sometimes miss when I watch regular local cookshows, yet I find it so important to prepare and cook your meals cleanly, especially if you use eggs or meat.

hi maangchi, i made this about 15 minutes ago for my mom who can’t chew due to her new dentures. she’s been living off of sausage for about a month now, so i felt really bad. i found your recipe and decided to give it a try! i diced everything really small and she absolutely loved it. she works as a chef at a hotel, and had absolutely no complaints whatsoever. i’m so grateful for you maangchi! for the first time in a month, my mom had a proper meal and loved it. thank you! love from hawaii

I just made a vegetarian version of this with some local mushrooms instead of meat like you suggested and it's phenomenal!! 😍😍😍 The mushroom flavor really compliments the smokiness of the gochugaru, they have a pleasant chew to them and the dish pairs beautifully with iced oolong tea ❤
I've been on a long-term weight loss journey and I've been trying a lot more Korean food because of it because there is so much incredible, healthy and low calorie density Korean food out there that doesn't sacrifice at all when it comes to flavor! Plus so much of it is shockingly easy and quick to make. I've been dieting and loosing weight and yet I feel like I'm eating like a king 👑 I will never be able to go without gochugaru, gochujang, Korean soybean paste, kimchi and sesame oil in my kitchen ever again.

Maangchi: Thank you! I used to eat mapo dofu a lot in Japan because I could get seasoning and some convenient ingredients. Here, I dont usually buy oyster sauce and other things, but I always have Korean staples like gochujang and soup soy sauce, so I can make mapadubu any time. Thank you, thank you!

Maangchi I want to thank you for always trying to add a vegetarian option whenever you can. When I started making your recipes years ago I ate a lot of meat. Now it is not so good for my stomach so I have to reduce a lot. I am so happy I can still make and enjoy Korean food without meat always. 😊🧡

@@holidaytrout5174 This version essentially takes the "mala" out of Mapo Tofu...there won't be a numbing sensation one of 5 or 6 distinct flavors in the Chinese version

I really like this recipe :) I put my own east-asia twist on it using grinded toasted szechuan pepper, red thai chili, fish sauce, 1TblSp tomato paste, 1TblSp homemade fermented garlic honey, a lime leaf and some lemon juice. It's really one of my favorites :) Also, just adding some chopped Kimchi is really great! I also once made this with crushed star anis, thai basil, crushed coriander seeds and fish sauce, and it really was tasting very vietnam-fusiony. This recipe is really amazing!

Maangchi’s channel is such a gem! What a find during these challenging times. ❤️ I’ve made the mapo tofu with cayenne pepper and pork belly - absolutely delicious, but a bit too hot (I think I have a HOT Gochujang!). I’ll keep experimenting as with this and other dishes as a way of self care, thank you so much Maangchi!

I don't often look forward to tofu but this looks good. Thank you!
Until recently, I thought Korean hot pepper paste was quite hot. In March 2018, I had flu - the worst of my life. After recovering, I found that chili pepper receptors are inactive. Korean hot pepper paste is only sweet and good tasting. I can eat it straight from the container, like ice cream. But it is wonderful blended with other foods.
